Politics › Re: Why Is It Impossible To Have 24/7 Electricity During This Quarantine Period? by oyatz(m): 9:18am On Mar 31, 2020 |
Coming from a historical background that electricity generation, transmission and distribution were exclusively done by the Federal Military Government (which couldn't be challenged) as a WELFARE and not as a commercial service for which the FG felt that the citizens ought to be grateful, power supply to the present populace can not be adequate.
The Constitution put electricity generation and distribution in the exclusive list.
Until we change these two factors, it will be near immpossility to have 24/7 electricity in Nigeria even if we spend $100 Billion on it. |

Even in the UK and most parts of the US, 16 is the minimum age of consent and the houseboy's action is legal. Nigeria has no operating age of sexual consent. In 2023, there will be no Buhari and APC is most likely going to field a Southerner after 8 years of Buhari. You obviously don't understand me For the past two years on Nairaland, I have noticed that threads concerning Igbos often extend up to 7-10 pages. Then I began to ask questions in my mind, why this? These are my observations; 1) Most of the Igbos on Nairaland believe that the Igbos are victims of the Nigerian State and many even believe Igbos are being persecuted in this country. the 2) Because of the reason above, they write many posts that non-igbo Nigerians may find uncomfortable, irritating or even offensive. (This doesn't mean other Nigerians don't open inappropriate threads against the Igbos) 3) Then reactions (mostly negative) from other Nigerians follow, resulting in arguments for and against both sides which is often laced with tribal slurs. 4) As Nigerians, this should worry us deeply. I as a person, I contribute in the debates in consonance with my conscience (uphold the truths, debunk the lies/propaganda and correct injurious misinformation). 5) I don't hate any tribe because I believe it is unnecessary and a primitive way of thinking. MelesZenawi: Exactly samething I am saying

Politics › Re: I Didnt Know Gov Nyesom Wike Is Of Igbo Descent by oyatz(m): 9:12pm On Mar 26, 2020 |
You don't understand my point. 1) Different ethnic groups can (indeed do) coalesce into one bigger ethnic. This was how Igbo, Yoruba, Nupe ,Fulani emerged in the first instance. 2) 400 years ago, there were no Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo or Ijaw ethnic groups as we know them today and in 400 years time, many tribes would have been assimilated into a larger pan ethnic one. This was the same way the Biblical Amalekites, the Hittites and the Jebusites were absorbed into the emerging Israelites and the Amonites, Moabites, Edomites and the Ishmaelites all coalesced into the Arab pan ethnic group. 3) My post is NOT whether Nigeria is working or not. It's NOT about whether we should continue as Nigeria or disintegrate. #Personally, I am of the opinion that unity can NOT be enforced. Those who don't want to be part of Nigeria should be allowed to leave. gidgiddy: The sane Britain you are using as an example still has Scots, English, Welsh and Irish as its recognized indigenous ethnic nationalities
The same Britain you using as an example is made up of ethnic enclaves called Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland
The same Britain you are talking about gave Northern Ireland and Scotland referendum in 1971 and 2014 respectively
Nobody in Nigeria is going to abandon their ethnic nationalities for some super-ethnic group. For one thing, it cannot work. We are all different people. Are we going to also have a Super-religion to bring Muslims and Christians together? Are we also going to have a super-culture to bring all the cultures together? It is impossible
What we should do is what Britain did and give those who want a referendum a chance to choose between Nigeria and independence. Personally, I think that Nigeria is a disastrous British colonial experiment that has since failed woefully. That the British brought us all together does not mean we must all die together. Let us all come to the reality that Nigeria is unworkable. Let a referendum be held so that the people can decide if they want to continue with Nigeria or not. Thats even more important than the unity of Nigeria |

These your suggestions are very laughable. The well educated, widely traveled and matured Men in Aka Ikenga or Ohaneze Ndigbo can't make this kind of statements. 1) Ethnic groups I Nigeria especially the big ones were created by the BRITISH and they aren't into water tight compartments. 2) It's difficult to say for instance, where Kanuri ends and Manga starts. Where do Ishan/Bini end and Igbo begins? Where does Ikwerres ends and Igbo begins? Where does Ogu (Egun) people ends and Yorubas start? They are many towns/clans in between that clearly overlap or are mixture of both sides (e.g Opobo= Igbo+ Ijaw). 3) Many people we now call Hausas are actually agglumerations of several related and unrelated tribes/clans BUT they have accepted the Hausa tag. Hausa just like the term ARAB is now a super ethnic group. 4) In reality, smaller groups find it easier to asssimilate into larger groups especially in African Countries where Tribal identications are used as basis of sharing resources and giving previledges. pazienza: At the bold. And what do you think I have been trying to do? We allowed them to enjoy playing the game, by keeping the door of Igbohood open to them. So they can cunningly come in at their volition and claim Igbo when conditions are right, and also sneak out to claim non Igbo when conditions are not favorable.
Common sense dictates that we deal with them first and foremost, before we start talking about Hausa-Fulanis. Hausa-Fulanis would not be playing the game without Ikwerre and their co travellers co-operation.
How we deal with them is to make the Igbo ethnicity a tight one, by ensuring that there would be no place for Ikwerres within the Igbo ethnic nationality. We simply ban Ikwerre sons from taking part in Igbo gatherings, we send any of them in our midst back to Ogbakor Ikwerre, and we send strong warnings through print media and social media to any opportunist Ikwerre that ever tries to claim Igbo, like Amaechi once did. We make it a point of duty to imprint on the mind of all Ikwerres that they will no longer be accepted in Igbo gatherings and they will no longer be allowed to claim Igbo at any point in time.
It's time we started looking out for ourselves. We will no longer be anyone or group "shock absorber". |
Politics › Re: I Didnt Know Gov Nyesom Wike Is Of Igbo Descent by oyatz(m): 7:21pm On Mar 26, 2020 |
You are still making the same mistake. 1) You can NOT determine who is an Igbo and who shouldn't be Igbo. Igbos are those who accept to be Igbos (irregardless of their ancestries or historical extistence). Non-Igbos are those who refuse to embrace the Igbo tag. Every group decide where they want to belong. 2) Ethnic groups are NOT constant, they change with TIME. Yorubas, Hausa and Igbos as we know them today are created by the BRITISH colonial Masters who categorized tribes/clan that they (the British) think are similar in ancestries, culture or already under common political authorities /influence (e.g The Oyo Empire and the Sokoto Caliphate). Any group that like the category can stay and stick to it. Those who aren't comfortable with it can opt out. pazienza: They are not exactly the same. There was never a time Itsekiri identified as Yoruba in the past, they have always been a distinct ethnic group. Likewise Urhobo and Isoko.
A better illustration would have been Ijebu -Yorubas, Urhobo-Okpe, Idoma-Igede.
And no! The average Ikwerre man exhibit a deep seated loathe and hostility towards the Igbo, yet they want to be Igbo when it's expedient, that has to stop. Everyone has to bear their father's surname. Every single Ikwerre has to be Ikwerre and remain Ikwerre forever, at no point should they be admitted into Igbo gatherings as Igbos or allowed to claim to be Igbos in public, such claims should be met with severe warnings and hostility from Ndiigbo to such Ikwerre person or group. That's how we restore sanity.

Excuse me sir, Ethnic group is SELF IDENTITY and it's largely by choice. There are many people who now accept the Hausa ethnic tag but were not originally Hausas. The same goes for Yoruba and Igbo ethnic groups. They were classifications done by the British colonial Masters to group tribes/clans which the BRITISH considered similar as one ethnic group. Those who accept these tags (e.g the Ngwa, AroChukwus, Nzam) and remain loyal to the group are counted as parts of the groups but those who want to opt out are not necessarily bad but different people (e.g Isoko, Itshekiri, Ikwerres etc) I have met some people who speak Yoruba fluently, eat Yoruba food and practice Yoruba culture, who I also assumed to be Yorubas but once told they are not Yoruba but independent minority groups in Northern parts of Kwara and some parts of Edo State. hammer0: I think we may be misunderstanding the NigerDelta union to be something cultural.
These people all speak different language but have subscribe to the Nigerdelta union.
They do live in a different region called SS, as opposed to Igbo SE.
I think it is time to call a spade a spade.
Do they speak Ijaw? If no, then they are not Ijaw.
This is the samething we are saying with the Ikwere.
Ethnicity is not a matter of choice but a matter of facts.
