Politics › Re: Innoson: Dangote Cannot Build Refinery Without Assurance Of Oil Well From Govt by oyatz(m): 5:23pm On Apr 04, 2020
Many people don't understand how Oil refineries work.

# The oldest functional refinery in the World is in India which does NOT produce crude oil.

#There are many Countries (e.g Switzerland) that don't have crude oil but have oil refineries.

In reality, these refineries can be compared to Mills where different farmers/traders take their grains to for the grains (e.g wheat, rice, maize) to be granded into fine flours while they pay the owners of the Mills.

The Port Harcourt Refinery which was built by Shell in 1965 operated on this model before the FG completely took over the refinery.

When the Port Harcourt Refinery was been managed by Shell, they concentrated their energy, resources and time on the refinery operations.

Different oil companies (e.g British Petroleum now known as ConOil) bought crude oil in varying qualities which were then pumped to the refinery to refine into Petrol, Kerosene, Diesel oil, Engine oil, Aviation fuel and a host of other products.

These down stream petroleum companies through a network of depots and dealers distributed the refined products throughout Nigeria.
There was nothing like fuel scarcity or centralized trade unions like NUPENG during this period.

These oil companies could share the profits from the sales of the products with the Refinery or they could pay upfront if they had enough money.

The Federal Military Government took over the Refinery and lumped several sectors of the oil Business under one centralized Company called NNPC which was managed as a Government Monopoly.

This is the genesis of the problems in the Nigerian Oil industry.

There was demand for it already but the number of patients respiratory failures are not as much as during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It's just like asking if there was demand for facemasks in Nigieria before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Face masks, gloves and ventilators are regular hospital equipments in use long before the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ordinarily, every Tertiary Hospital in Nigeria should have 2-3 ventilators. Before the pandemic, an average ventilator was about #3 million.

CSTR2:
Why wasnt there demand before the pandemic?

Don't forget China is still there. Once pandemic goes, they would start producing for export once again.

If you don't have your market sealed tight by way of contractual agreement, you are done for.
Politics › Re: Innoson: Dangote Cannot Build Refinery Without Assurance Of Oil Well From Govt by oyatz(m): 1:22pm On Apr 04, 2020
Because there is an unexpected surge in the numbers of people needing the ventilators beyond what is presently available in the US.

However in Nigeria, there is none being produced locally, why not seize the opportunity to become the sole manufacturer of ventilators in Nigeria, which can also be exported to other African Countries?

Precious4real50:

One of the first things smart industrialists/producers/investors do before production is to first identify the condummers (markets) of their products .

It's Innoson's responsibility to first identify the market.

Are ventilators only used to manage COVID-19 patients?
The answer is NO.

Will their be demand for ventilators after the pandemic?
The answer is YES

Just type Innoson on Nairaland, Facebook or see what young Igbos write about him on Twitter.

Innoson motor vehicles had a court issues with GTB about a year ago, IPOB and other Igbo gtoups immediately jumped into the matter and asked their people to start closing their accounts with GTB.

If you see anything about Innoson online, the following statements are likely to follow it;

1) Igbo Amaka
2) Igbos are the Japan of Africa.
3) If only they have allowed us to go, we will be exporting Innoson.

4) Igbos excel despite the 20 Pounds policy.
5) The more you frustrate Igbos, the more they become stronger.

6) If Government can support Innoson the way they are supporting Dangote....

Stop all these unnecessary victim mentality.

Orji Uzor Kalu's corruption case started shortly after he left office in 2007. He was off and on attending court cases.

He is not a strong politician in either PDP or APC and definitely not a strong contender for 2023. There is no private citizen southern or Northern politician that can jail anybody.

Sen OUK is in prison today because he is being seen as one of the obstacles for the realization of the 2023 ambition of the said man. Sen OUK's corruption case is used as a cover up; 2023 is the main reason for imprisoning him.

You have a good understanding of Basic Economics.

Thumbs up sir.

mekaboy:
Sure. Why dont we cut the middle man completely and have the whites colonize us. After all we order everything from there. That way they can bring their factories here.

Even the traditional materials we wear are imported and tailors assemble them here, why dont we just import all the clothes.

Why are we wasting time assembling face masks, when the materials are made in china? We can just order from china.

The machines we use in processing rice and other foods are made in china, we can as well import rice direct.

China buys oil from us and converts to fuel and use for other stuff. Why dont they just other fuel from from us, since the assemble our oil?

If 10% of the things we use in Nigeria are assembled here, unemployment would have reduced by 90%.

Let me educate you on one advantage of assembling . A container might take only 5 cars, but if the parts are shipped 20 or more cars can be assembled from one container. Saving time and cost of shipping.

I guess our hospitals also assemble drugs etc here, no wonder buhari will cut the middle men to go and get healthcare direct from UK. This thing called common sense is not common.

There are many cement factories in Nigeria e.g West African Lafarge (Elephant cement), Dangote, BUA, Ibeto Cement etc.

Mergers and acquisition of businesses occurs in different sectors of the economy (construction, banking, Aviation etc)
Politics › Re: Bashir Ahmad's Response To Innoson On Ventilator Offer by oyatz(m): 4:04am On Apr 04, 2020
Apart from this ventilators issue, Government can partner with industrialists like Innoson, Dangote, BUA etc.

Innoson seems to model his business largely on Government patronage. He should start targeting the larger populace.

Malawian:
Do you guys know that you can't go to any type of market whatsoever and purchase a Steam turbine? You will have to place order for it and it will be manufactured for you.

All innoson is saying is that the FG should place an order for ventilators and mobilize him to produce them.

That is his business model.

Dangote transited from importation of cement to manufacturing of cement in 2003 with his acquisition of Benue Cement Company.

Around 2007, the newly built Obajana cement company merged with BCC to form Dangote Cement Company.

The company diversified into Oil refinery (which is still under construction) much more later.

#Personslly, i don't know why many young Igbos online become emotional when discussing about Innoson especially with the ways they always portray him as a persecuted business man and the unnecessary ways they compare him with Dangote.

Politics › Re: Bashir Ahmad's Response To Innoson On Ventilator Offer by oyatz(m): 3:36am On Apr 04, 2020
You don't understand the situation.

1) Ventilators are medical machines to help a patient to continue to breath even when there is serious compromise in the respiratory system of the patient.

2) The use of ventilators is NOT limited to COVID-19.

3) Increased demand for ventilators at this period is due to the pandemic.

4) Innoson can use this opportunity to start a permanent local production of ventilators in Nigeria which will continue to meet the demand of Nigeria even after the COVID-19 pandemic is over.

5) Innoson can export to our neighboring countries too and even be the sole supplier of ventilators in West Africa.

6) If he is serious about it, he should get loans from banks/investors.

The FG can even give him credit facilities through the Bank of Industry, import waivers (already in place for medical equipments) etc

7) The Buhari administration (through NPF, Immigration, Nigerian Customs, Army, FRSC, Federal Universities etc) is biggest buyer of Innoson vehicles

PHIPEX:
No serious businessman makes such huge investment for a demand that could be over in less than 4 months except the company wants to go into such production for a long term which is not the case we are having. You dont build refinery because NUPENG is on strike and fuel is scarce, that's what you are asking Innoson to do.

The demand for ventilators has a very short span and very unpredictable, only a guaranteed order can make any serious company make such a huge investment in it. That also explains why it's still scarce otherwise every Tom Dick and harry will divert to it in other countries.

GM can now produce because Trump has given an order. Why haven't Toyota and Honda started? It's simply because they haven't gotten a concrete order and Japan is not in dire need of it like Nigerian.
Politics › Re: Bashir Ahmad's Response To Innoson On Ventilator Offer by oyatz(m): 3:18am On Apr 04, 2020
Excuse me sir

Why are you people fixated on the assumption that only Government must buy Innoson products?

There are many hospitals in Nigeria and outside the country that will buy these ventilators without relying on Government.

PHIPEX:
Dangote didn't just start, he got govt backing which is very good. Do you know how many times CBN and other senior officials visited his site? This is how a country should run. You don't expect Innoson to run to a bank and take 4billion loan just on HOPE that govt will buy, who does that?
Politics › Re: Bashir Ahmad's Response To Innoson On Ventilator Offer by oyatz(m): 3:13am On Apr 04, 2020
You need to get License by the Department of Petroleum Products (DPR) to start the construction of Oil refineries.

Dangote, Orient Petroleum and twenty other companies got the license to build refineries.

On the other hand, you don't need any license to manufacture Ventilators.

PHIPEX:
Did FG ask Dangote to refine some litres of fuel first before he got govt backing to build refinery? Govt should always support critical sectors, that's how countries grow not by begging.
