Most commentators on Nairaland are obviously non-politicians but love to approach Political issues from purely emotional tribalistic mindset. 1) It will have been far easier for Igbos to be president in 2023 if we are still operating a one dominant part system like in the old days of the PDP but now we have two major Political parties. 2) Igbos have formidable presence in the PDP and have invested time and resources in the party, so it's easier for them to demand for PDP's presidential ticket in 2023. However, it may not be easy for the Igbos to get the Presidential ticket of the APC in 2023. 3) Political candidates contest elections on the platform of Political parties NOT tribes. Nigerians from all States have invested their resources and time in the APC &PDP such that if any of these parties should go down, many people will go down with it.Thus they will do everything to make sure their parties win. selemempe: if tambulwal bcoms president...igbos can be vp and have more role....igbos gain nothing...absolutely nothing with a yoruba president....and we knw igbo will lose a general election...so go figures |

You've been on the offensive since you jumped in with an obvious intent to undermine the igboness of the anioma people. That itself is an emotional conversation for those from there, I can imagine.
The polity is very heated right now, nigerians are at each others throat, to you - you're just having fun on NL trying to have an "intelligent conversation" by whipping up people's emotions on a very sensitive topic, you're not helping. 20 years ago I was an open minded young Nigerian open to all nigerian tribes, today unlike you I can not claim to be that. The woman who married her is responsible for the children as the children belongs to her. |

Bros ,calm down and stop attributing so many things to me. I have no qualms in anybody claiming any tribe/ethnic group, I just think I can contribute to what I think should be an intelligent discussion without unnecessary emotional outbursts from fellow disscusants. Tribal identity is the least of my problems (not even a problem to me). I work in the private sector, I welcome and deal with any clients to patronize our services regardless of their tribes. I don't discriminate because money has no tribe! This is my number-1 interest. The igboness or non-igboness of any tribe does not put food on my table or pay my children' school fees sir. onyeopobo: I know you're trying your best to sound intelligent but your political impartiality is so brazenly open. So many comments on this thread from people from the same place have commented saying they're proudly igbo people, and you're still saying the people should decide what to call their selves, you've skipped the video of the queen of Anioma proudly advocating for igbos to be one, you've skipped the twit of the current Gov who is from Ika, saying he was proud to be at the Ohaneze meeting and is proud of the igbo unity, What else do you want the Anioma people to do for you? do they have to show up to your house with placards and demonstrate? would that be enough to pacify you? You want us to accept the opinion your imaginary friend ebuka oliseh.
You refuse that the olukumi could have in centuries past settled in Anioma, you rather want people to say that they are originally from Anioma, but you're very quick to argue that the Ijaw people in Ondo state are mere settlers because there's no land borders between bayelsa and ondo state, so how close via water is ondo from bayelsa?
For the record, you peoples argument that igbo people started out in the west and morphed into igala and morphed into igbo people is quack science and defies biology, physics and human migration.
Here's a better layman explanation that could better debunk your myth. If you put a chunk of purple paint on one end of a rectangular basin and white paint on the other end, you'll get pink in the middle.
another one, you have white people in the north black people in the south and arabs in the middle. The metamorphosis starts in the middle. The Igala, ebira etc exist because of the cohabitation between the igbos on the east and the yorubas on the west. The igbo tribe is as original as the yoruba.
Watching the anioma queen speak so elagantly and proudly is quite emotional, I wonder how bad the Anioma people would feel reading these comments of other people trying to say that they are not igbo. How would you feel if a Hausa guy was trying hard to argue how non yoruba you and your village is? Stop it oh! |

Where did I refer to any Newspaper in my post? Tribaliststs like you judge and evaluate People solely on the basis of Tribe instead of individually. Apart from cultural practices, individual members of a particular ethnic group may not have anything in born shared among them. It's most unfortunate that Colonialism happened to Africans the way it did. In the distant part, like 1000years ago, almost all of Southern Nigeria were ONE People. 1) If you start from Ile-Ife in the West and you travel eastwards, you will notice that the languages keep metamorphosing untill it becomes Igbo in Onitsha, just on the Eastern banks of the River Niger. We share many similarities than the Tribaliststs are aware. Yorubas are in the Western end of the spectrum with Bini, Urhobo, Itshekiri, Igala, Ishan in between and Igbo is the Eastern end of the spectrum. 2) For Instance, Orisha (Yoruba)= Oritse(Itsekiri)= Osaa (Bini)= Olise (Ika)= Olisa (Igbo)= Deity Omo(Yoruba)= Oma (Igala)=Omo (Bini)= Umu(Igbo)= Child. Asee(Yoruba)= Isee(Bini) =Isee( Igbo)= Amen Okoro(Igbo)= Okunrin (Yoruba)= Man Okorocha(Igbo)= Okunrin pupa(Yoruba)= Light complexioned man. Dimkpa (Igbo)= Igiripa (Yoruba)= Fully grown man Oba(Yoruba)= Oba (Bini)= Obi (Ika)= King Okuta(Yoruba)= Okwuta(Bini)= Okwute( Igbo)= Stone. Enu (Yoruba)= Onu (Igbo)= Mouth olisaokere: Ofcourse it’s not something to wail about but what matters and what you should seriously put into consideration is that 90% of the A.N.I.O.M.A people otherwise refered to as western igbos are proudly igbos and identify as such and many are all in igbo group both home and abroad and you can’t deny them that or rewrite their history because there are few who feel they are from Yoruba land or Benin land.as a matter of fact many scholars have tried to establish the relationship between Yoruba-Edo-igbo people. |

Why resorting to insults? That's unbecoming of a well brought up lady( I used to take you to be). You can NOT carve out a territory from a State and add it to another State except they share a common border. E.g You can NOT say Onitsha was probably carved out of Ijawland in Delta or Rivers States since in between Onitsha and the nearest Ijaw settlements, there are several Igbo towns in between. Many young Igbo guys wrongly assume they know every ethnic group WELL and they somehow become irritated whenever any group perceived to be Igbo reject the Igbo tag. It's a great fallacy to assume that anyone perceived to be Igbo must embrace and be proud of their 'Igboness' Give allowance for those that don't want to be part of you and identify those that are with you! 1) Olukumi is an Old Yoruba word for MY FRIEND. Up til today, in Ile-Ife, Some parts of Ijesha, Ekiti and Ondo States, the Old People still refer to their friends as Oluku. 2) Ugbodu is the Capital/Head-quaters of Olukumi clan. It was derived from the Yoruba statement; Ugbo du mi la = The Forest saved me to prosper. Eastlink: You guys have done a good job editing Wikipedia pages, with fictitious Yoruba sounding names with all intent to connect Anioma to Yoruba links too. Una try! But at the end the Olukumi's remain Igbo's till this date. Even the word Olukumi pre-dates the Yoruba abi na Oyoruba identity. Keep fighting a losing battle. As far as Ndigbo and the Olukumi's themselves are concerned the Oyoruba tag is dead on arrival. Go look for your siblings in Ilorin, Kabba and Benin republic. Yoruba map west of the Niger ends in Ondo. |

You just publicly display your ignorance of the subject matter and understanding of the Geography of Nigeria. Ondo State has no common border with the Heart of the Anioma. The part of Delta State that share border with Ondo State is Delta South senatorial district NOT Delta North. The Okukumis are not settlers on their own Land. PrecisionFx: There could be yoruba settlers in Anioma, there could also be yoruba people in Ondo state who were carved into Anioma territory during state creation, it's no big deal.
Same way there are ijaws in Ondo state |

You can call yourself whatever you fancy but that won't make you an ethnic group. 1) All ethnic groups emerge slowly overtime from previously existing ethnic groups. 2) Ethnic groups can be a fusion of two or more ethnic groups and example abound all over the World. E.g Liechtenstein People= French+German +Italian Aja People in Benin republic= Yoruba +Fon Ogori-Mangogo in Kogi State= Yoruba +Nupe+ Ebira. Anioma= Igbo +Bini+Igala+ Ishan +Yoruba Itshekiri= Yoruba+Bini+ Europeans. FULANI= Berbers+Arabs + Madinka+ Malians selemempe: i can also choose to call myself wat ever i like...does it make it so? You don't seems to understand my point; 1) The Anioma People should determine who they are and NOT other people determining who they are. 2) They can decide to be a different ethnic group (which appears to be the prevailing identity) or they can declare to be part of the Igbo people if they want (some Anioma actually call themselves Igbo). nextdoor84: HV you ever seen where a minority tribe dominates and dictates to the Majority within the same clime?
