Amah70:Again, understanding the rules of any adventures , be it sports, business, Academic Exams or Politics is very important. One principle is to understand your own strengths and weaknesses and how they differ from that of your opponents/colleagues. Circumstances that threw-up Yar'Adua and Jonathan are very unique and only few people in life are that lucky. Both Obasanjo and Buhari has been at the top of Nigerian political space since the 1970s and even at that, Buhari consecutively ran for office in 2003,2007, 2011 and lost before finally winning in 2015. Even in the USA, Ghana, South Africa and UK, those who eventually become President/Prime-Ministers are often consistently in the political space of their countries for sometime before finally reaching the peak. |
Penguin2:They contested because they had a constitutional right to do so and believed in themselves that they can still win. So, Peter Obi, Anyim Pius Anyim, Okorocha, Ngige can do the same. |
Amah70:Please list these indices of human development and who carried out these studies with dates. |
Buskolo:But those who always scream they are superior to other Nigerians ought to show evidence of this superiority. |
ma373733:Obasanjo/PDP won in areas where PDP was strong and lost in areas where it wasn't. Why is it very difficult for Nigerians on Social media to understand that it's political parties that contest for elections? If Peter Obi gets the PDP ticket, he will win in PDP dominated areas, even in the S/west |
Noneroone:There was no city in Port-Harcourt before the Colonial Government created the city in 1913 and named it Port-Harcourt. However Ikwerre village of Diobu was already existing close by and the elders of Ikwerre granted the British the approval to build a port on their land. The city had however enlarged into Ijaw and other Ikwerre Territories. Igwe-Ocha is the term used by Igbos to refer to the city which came about in the 1920s years after the port was built. If you think any city named Igwe-Ocha existed before 1913, please name the kings/Administrators/Warrant Chiefs of that city. Name the traditional institutions of the city, it's boundaries and treaties signed with her neighbours. |
Noneroone:What is the acceptable definition of indigenous peoples of Port-Harcourt? Do you have a register of all the indigenous peoples of Port-Harcourt? |
Amah70:Political parties and NOT the SW has the power on zoning their tickets. The SW is just one out of the six Geo-political zones and doesn't have the power to determine where each political party zone their tickets. |
DMerciful:At least, if the rest of the people hate Igbos, the Igbos shouldn't hate themselves. So how come that this perceived superiority of the Igbos hasn't turned Igboland into a First world zone? |
MOTOPARK:Do you really think the Hausa-Fulani hates Igbos? The same Hausa-Fulani pardoned Ojukwu, 12 years after the war, the same Hausa-Fulani made Alex Ekwueme and Umuezeoke Vice president and Speaker of House of Representatives between 1979-1983. Maybe the Hausa-Fulani don't trust the Igbos with power but they don't really hate them. The ethno- religious riots in the North were largely a We-Vs-Them fights and not particularly targeted at Igbos. All non-muslims and even moderate Muslims from the south are usually targeted during such crisises. |
ma373733:The issues goes beyond the Yorubas, it's a Nigerian matter. |
maestroferddi:Absolutely correct. Peter Obi, in my own opinion should have started making moves for the presidency immediately after the 2019 elections. He should have assembled a team of young intellectuals to look at the problems of Nigeria and proffer solutions to them. Then, he should have started giving these suggested solutions to the Government and general public in forms of periodic interviews, during convocations, public lectures like the Platform, Ahmadu Bello and Awolowo Foundations Lectures series, direct and active participations In PDP affairs. He should have sponsored his loyalists in the NWC of the PDP like Wike and Atiku are doing. Nobody takes you serious in Nigerian politics if you are too gentle and easily predictable. |
Amah70:Understanding the rules of politics is very necessary to succeed in politics. This very idea that it's the turn of the Igbos shows inadequate understanding of the rules and it's one of the draw backs of achieving Igbo presidency because it gives those who believe in it a sort of entitlement mentality. Those with this mindsets sat down for so long, expecting to be dashed the presidency and are just starting to invest in the presidential race, just when the election is around the corner. |
DMerciful:Again, you keep writing out of ignorance. Political parties account for about 70% of the success and failures of candidates in an election. 1) The real reason why Jonathan was defeated was the emergence of the APC in 2014. If the weaker parties had not coalesce into one strong political party, any candidate presented by the PDP would have won. 2) The PDP/Jonathan won in Enugu, Ekiti, Taraba and Rivers States because the PDP was strong in these States, just as the APC lost in these States because it was weak in these States. Similarly, the APC won in Lagos, Kano, Borno,Ogun, Oyo, Osun and Kwara States because it was strong in these States. 3) Jonathan/PDP actually won in some local Gov'ts Areas (LGAs) where the party was formidable. For instance,in the 2015 elections in Osun State, Jonathan/PDP won in Obokun & Ori-Ade LGAs (Ijesha North Federal constituency) because of the political influence of Hon. Oluwole Oke, the most formidable politician in that areas. This had nothing to do with Igbos or propaganda as you wrongly assume. Similarly, Jonathan/PDP won in Ife Central and Ife South LGAs because of the political influence of Senator Iyiola Omisore, the PDP candidate in the 2014 Gubernatorial election. Again, this had nothing to do with Igbos or propaganda. 3) It doesn't make sense to assume that the PDP ought to defeat the APC, which was formed by the CPC and the ACN ,the household party in the S/west. This is like asking why the APC didn't win in Anambra State. |
DMerciful:Again, you just wrote out of ignorance. 1) In 2011, Jonathan reached a working understanding with the ruling party in the ACN which worked for Jonathan's victory because their own party was weak. 2) By 2014, the APC had emerged with formidable structure to win a presidential election, so how do you think people will leave their own interests and be pursuing the interests of their opponents? 3) In 2015, Jonathan/PDP won in Ekiti State because Gov Ayo Fayose-led PDP government was in power in Ekiti. 4) On the eve of the 2015 elections, the APC controlled 5 States while the PDP controlled only Ekiti State, so how do you think that the PDP ought to defeat the APC in the presidential election in the S/west and the reason why the PDP couldn't was because Jonathan had Igbos around him? How do you think the ruling party in the S/west ought not to had worked for their own party's success? 5) The strength and UNITY of the parties in each State determine their performance, this is not Rocket Science You approach political issues from emotional points of views, hence you may not understand how elections are won and lost. |
kingsways:Contestants in Governorship debates declaring that 'someone did well during in his tenure' taking place about 8 years after Peter Obi left Office is not an objective way of evaluating the achievements of Peter Obi. 'Performing well' is a subjective statements with meaning that varies from a person to another person. It is more objective to list known and verifiable indices of performance e.g the Kilometers of road constructed, poverty rates, number of vehicles & communications gadgets bought for security agencies, IGR and maternal mortality rates before and after Obi. |
Ngorbungor:The Curriculum Vitae of a person gives a brief summary about one's BioData, educational qualifications, work experience ,Awards received, hobbies and about 3 people (Referees) that can vouch that the information in it are correct. It has nothing to do with achievements while in office as a Governor. |
xelly:The FG failed abysmally to handle the cases of the killer herdsmen well. |
DMerciful:Again, this is not my point. You can open a separate thread on Mr Igboho's case. |
DMerciful:People like you that reason like this don't understand anything about elections. 1) Jonathan/PDP received millions of votes in the S/west (about 40% of the total votes cast in the S/west). 2) The APC received about 60% of the votes cast in the S/west. These reflect the relative strengths of these parties in the S/west. It has nothing with Igbos. 3) What happened in 2015 were general elections in which Presidential, Senatorial, Reps, Governorship and House of Assembly elections were also conducted. The APC won in all the other five elections ,so how do you think that Jonathan contesting on the platform of the PDP ought to have defeated the APC in just in the presidential election? |
offorjide:Peter Obi needs to first win the PDP primaries. |
mbahdi:The first hurdle doesn't involve the whole country but PDP stakeholders who are not illiterates but educated and enlightened men and women. This is the reason why you guys should convince majority of the PDP delegates to vote for Peter Obi. |
BeeBeeOoh:The more aspirants the better. Peter Obi and his team should work very hard to win the presidential primaries of the PDP. |
Esseite:You failed to highlight/ bolden Emeke ihediawa and Ike Ekweremadu ,both from the S/East who were Deputy Speaker and Deputy Senate President respectively between 2011-2019. You also failed to highlight/bolden Namadi Sambo (Vice-president from 2011-2015) and Aminu Tambuwal (Speaker from 2011-2015) ,both from the N/west . You also need to know that between 1979-1983, Hon Ume-Ezeoke and Dr Alex Ekwueme ,both from the S/East were Speaker and Vice-president respectively. |
I believe Peter Obi is good enough to be president because those who have been presidents before aren't better than him. However, the hype about him as the candidate with the midas touch to turn around Nigeria need to be substantiated. What were the IGR of Anambra before and after the administration of Peter Obi? How many Kilometers of road were tarred under Peter Obi? What were the unemployment rates before and after the administration of Peter Obi? How many units of houses did he construct? What were the Maternal mortality rates in Anambra State before and after Obi? Listing private companies like Innoson and Breweries as achievements of a State Governor is faulty. |
DMerciful:This is not my point. Nnamdi Kanu was busy preaching hatred against other Nigerians with many Igbos cheering him up and repeating his messages. When the FG decided to arrest Nnamdi Kanu and curtailed his excesses, it's natural that these other Nigerians who were the victims of his agitations will support the move. |
nku5:It's better that you guys look for a credible candidate and support him to defeat the candidate you don't like. |
Masterkernel1:Nnamdi Kanu started base his agitation by preaching hatred against the Hausa-Fulani and the Yorubas the tempo of which increased especially after the 2015 electi His tweets and broadcasts against the Yorubas are all over the internet, this is the reason why most non-igbo Nigerians that comment against him on social media are doing so. Many of the young Igbo online picked their anti-Nigerian altitudes from his broadcasts on Radio Biafra. |
Oracleforce:Nobody has started campaigns. Tinubu is still a private citizen ,CONSULTING people in and out of Nigeria. Both Atiku and Buhari went to the Chattam House, London to drum up support for their presidential ambition. |
ityP:Okay, how many votes will the APC get in Cross-River, Delta State? What these politicians gain if PDP win? |
ityP:Why do you think only Tinubu can do things that that you just mentioned? Why do you think the other aspirants can't do all these? In any case, how do you prevent changes and for how long in a heterogeneous country? |
ityP:You are contradicting yourself. |
