As an engineer you are making the rest of us look weak with this your indecision regarding this issue. Not a rocket science to know that the offer is nothing to write home about.

Yankeeboi1: My fellow Nairalanders, I cant explain all I am facing here in the US as a student coz I'm finding it somehow uneasy. First, when I got here this fall I have a problem with my accommodation and where I eventually move to is too far from my school. I have to walk for about 20-30mins to the bus stop before I can get a free shuttle bus to the school. To be candid my pple, I'm not coping in classes coz since we start lectures, the lecturers always talked about one article or the other and also presentations whereby I didnt have a computer with me here I believe in myself to be a good student but it is becoming the other way round in this country and I feel alot depressed anytime we have classes. Is this how I will continue or Is there anybody in the house who has or is in my shoe? I tried to look for job in other to sustain myself but all prove abortive as I was told I have to have a work study before I could get one presently. I even went to the cafetaria yesterday and I was told to file up an application which I dont know when it will be review. Pls I need to know the way out of this b4 it get out of hand. I am just trying to manage the little money with me here. Kindly let me know what to do coz I'm thinking of leaving this school to another state where I get some pple but im afraid of falling out of status. I believe I can transfer but I dont believe I can stay here till next fall or even spring.Any advice pls?

Your best bet would be to move out of that state to a community college near your people and from there u will learn the rope to be a student in the US. Education here is not a bed of roses so you have to be well prepared. A community college will be way cheaper and more flexible in terms of schedule and after 2 years u can transfer your credits to a Univeristy to spend the last 2 years.

justwise:

Wrong. Only in a corrupt system like Nigeria will somebody get e-passport by proxy as long as you know 'somebody who know somebody' or bribe your way out of it. The details you submitted before might have changed, you address, your height, maybe you had an accident and lost an eye or any other form of disability, these details have to be as accurate as it can be, basically they have to make sure that you are who you claimed to be.

Entry and exit stamp in passport matters and where you got your passport matters as well. If you are holding a new e-passport in UK for example that was issued in Nigeria, that passport supposed to show the exit stamp from Nigeria and entry stamp into the UK, the same passport number will show in your UK visa.

If that passport was issued at the Nigerian embassy in the UK then exist and entry stamp is not a problem but when traveling out of the UK you need to carry both your old and new passport.
I won't join issues with u but trust me getting a Nigerian Passport reissued can be done via a proxy.

Why do U̶̲̥̅̊ think its only in abuja U̶̲̥̅̊ can get it done That should ring a bell to you that there is no two ways about it,U̶̲̥̅̊ can NEVER get it if ur are not there,if U̶̲̥̅̊ like pay £2k,i will bet my pali on it,everything seems posible in naija but this isn't ,if they have it in a central system why not issue it in London?think bro and start going to Hithrow or Gatwick, for ur info...it took me 1 month to get a reissue,I mean it wasn't like I changed anything,i went to abj from lag 3 times,

@Spenca, they don't do reissue in Festac, every thing am saying here is from personal experience, not hearsay,

justwise:

That will be fraud, each time you want to re-new e-passport or get a new one we are expected to be there in person, you don't do it by proxy, they will take your biometric again to compare to what they have already in the system.
justwise:

Do you really believe that? Will you cut your finger and send for biometric? How will you digitally signed that passport?

If somebody do it for you while you are still in the UK how will you get the stamp showing your exit from Nigeria and entry to the UK?

Guys cool down not everything in Nigeria is fraud. U can get a re-issue done by proxy and this is legal. All they do is reproduce a new Passport with your info that is already stored in their database. Your height or age might changed but not your fingerprints. I was once in dis situation and i got it done by proxy in August 2009. American citizens replace their lost passport from the comfort of their house. As per the exit or entry stamps u don't need it in this case as u are not applying for a new visa that u need evidence of departure from the UK. All u trying to do is to get your old visa on your passport. How u got the passport replaced is not the business of the UKBA.
And if anybody still don't believe go to Immigration Hqtrs, Airport Road, Abuja for confirmation. Peace

-high crime rate and gangstarism (forgive my English)
-high cost of living
-the state of California is broke and the economy is terrible.
-transport system here isn't too good.

Politics / Joy As Oshiomole Pay Ubth Patients Medical Bill by oyewolejos(m): 4:59pm On Aug 06, 2012
There were shouts of joy across the wards of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) as Governor Adams Oshiomhole picked up the medical bills of patients held back by the hospital management over their inability to defray the cost of their treatment.

Oshiomhole was visiting the hospital to see some patients when his attention was drawn to the plight of the indigent ones who could not pay their bills and were consequently not allowed to go home.

Oshiomhole offset the bills through the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cordelia Aiwuzie.

The Commissioner delivered sum of N12m to the hospital management on the instruction of the governor.

It was, however, gathered that a woman who told Oshiomhole that her daughter was also held at the hospital after being discharged, absconded with the money given to her by the governor in spite of pleas by the hospital management to pay up and take her daughter home.

Over 50 persons across the hospital wards including newborns were ‘detained’ by the hospital over their inability to pay.

Tears of joy flowed down the cheeks of the ‘prisoner’ patients and their family members when they learnt about Governor Oshiomhole’s gesture.

They fell on their knees, thanking God for using the governor to set them free as many of them, it was learnt, were treated since last year.

Uduak Mary, Shuaibu Daniel and Emmanuel Chukwu had lost hope of reuniting with their families after undergoing successful treatment owing to the huge debt they incurred during treatment.

Emmanuel Chukwu’s case was most pathetic. He was involved in an accident which affected his legs.

He was discharged since October last year but couldn’t pay the N1.2m bill he incurred. He resigned to fate.

“I wouldn’t have been able to pay the money. My wife and children live in Onitsha. I thank Oshiomhole very much,” he told journalists on his bed.

Udauk said she was treated and discharged for more than two months but could not raise the N691,000 she was asked to pay. Shuaibu’s bill was N343,160.

Blessing Ogbugo was treated since October last year but could not pay the N600,000 bill; Esther Jeremiah owed N83,000 while Ramatu Idris was indebted to the tune of N58,000. Everyone of them, including the girl whose mother absconded with the money, danced to the admiration of all at the ward.

Joy, mother of baby Okafor who was among the ‘prisoner’ patients, said she was very happy that her baby can now go home. She showered prayers on Governor Oshiomhole.

Besides the ‘prisoner’ patients that benefitted from the good gesture of the governor, over 600 patients who were on sick bed that day were given N5000 each.

The money made available by Governor Oshiomhole was not enough to clear the debts owed by the ‘prisoner’ patients but the hospital management wrote off the balance as a show of appreciation to Oshiomhole and allowed all the patients to go home.

The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the hospital who represented the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Alfred Ogbemudia, thanked the governor for the payment, adding that the hospital will pay whatever was left of the patients’ bill.

He said: “Oshiomhole has demonstrated an example of good leadership by paying the bills of indigent patients. If the bills are in excess of what the governor provided, we will waive the balance.”

“For him to go beyond doing well in governance to show such affection is an uncommon display of affection.”

Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Aiwuzie who represented the governor, said Oshiomhole’s desire was for the patients to be reunited with their families.

According to her, “The governor is not showing off. He came here two days ago and saw many patients who couldn’t pay their bills. He decided to pay the bills.”

Yes a student can start a business but cannot work for the business except you have work authorization. So how do you manage the business. People that I've seen with business registration waited till they got their H1.

No where was i asked to provide work authorization during the course of registering my business and u don't work for your own business, u own it. U don't pay personal income taxes but u pay taxes for your business. I repeat your immigration status is immaterial to business registration. Even foreigners have companies in the US. Transfer students , did ur i-20 states 36mnths for the duration of ur studies or 24mnths . Its kinda confusin . What wud someone tell the VO wen asked , the forms show 36months.

Tell them whatever is on your I-20 to be on the safer side cos telling them otherwise might undermine your credibility and the VO might doubt your intention.

The type of visa doesn't affect your business. A student can starts a business so far you have the capital.

@oyewole,you as a small business owner and an employer of labour, when will you be qualified to file H1B VISA..Please sir, can you tell me the process to take in registering business in America after school cos I know students are not allowed. And also, have you shipped from USA to Nigeria before. what's the fastest and cheapest means. Thanks in advance

Getting your business registered varies from state to state but to my understanding you will need to show a form of Identification and your Passport and Visa are all acceptable. Also depending on your business u will need to get an Employer Identification Number for your business. With your EIN you can open up a bank account for your business, get a business credit card, file taxes for your business, get grants for your business. The EIN is just like your SSN but in the case is for your business. Any any business is qualified to sponsor their employees for HI visa but most business owners don't wanna go through that process as it opens their business for scrutiny from Immigration officials.
About shipping i guess you talking about cars and in this case u just need a freight forwarder who can do RORO which is the fastest and cheapest means to Naija. Go to the Auto section u will get help from auto dealers there.

I was told you got to leave US to have it renewed, irrespective of where you got it renewed, just do it outside US. Some even say they do it in US but still need to confirm how possible that can be.
Confirm that info very well cos from my understanding that is not possible but i stands to be corrected.

bigfrancis21:

From the lot of reading i've done on US immigration, It is very much possible to remain behind after f1 study without being illegal, on overstay or going to mexico. Infact the mexico thing is likely to backfire, given that you're not a mexican national. The normal plan is to use the OPT training period(if your course is part of STEM-Science, Technology,Engineering and Medical sciences. STEM intl graduates are the only graduates allowed to be hired in america and obtain H1b work visa, to fill up the gaps created in these fields due to the insufficient american graduates required). The OPT training lasts for about 1yr and few months or so and is used to gain work experience after f1 study. Now while on OPT, get a job and have your employer file an H1b work visa for you. Once it comes through, you start work with him and can only work for that employer. The H1b visa is usually valid for 6 years, maximum. During this period you can file for the GC if you want, and within a few months to few years, its ready. Remember, your course must be part of STEM, in order to be qualified for this path.

My brother i like your spirit and u are damn right about all the laws u quoted but that's not the actual situation on ground. Unemployment is over 8% right now the highest since 1920 and more and more qualified americans are out of jobs and no employer of labour is ready to go through the hassle of filing for an employee when they can easily get an american and people with appropriate work documents who is ready to work. The H1 visa is mostly used by Asians to help their people but unfortunately Nigerians are not that united. Most companies even requires prospective employees to have work authorisation before they can apply.
Am a small business owner and an employer of labour so i know what am saying

Most states will ask your money being directly paid to your bank account and so by that, they ask for your SSN. You can't get SSN without a reference from your work place. The under table jobs as they say can pay you in cash but know that instead of the minimum wage of $7:50/hr you can be paid like $3 to $4/hr (don't really the amount but it's ridiculous) and you won't like to be exploit. GA alone pay about $22/hr. For int'l students, it's illegal to work off campus except your school allows you to get hired which I know they won't being international. To extend your visa, some don't extend it even after it expired and they continue with their studies but will have to do so before they can be allowed to enter back into US if at all they leave US. Many and what I'm gonna do is to go to Mexico for renewal. Mexico is closer to US than Nigeria and save cost too. And people that don't come back home can either look for something that will still make them legal doing in US and later straighten their papers.

And what will be your ties to Mexico when you apply for a renewal in Mexicon and also are you a legal resident of Mexico?

Just because you are fortunate to get some help doesn't mean everybody are that lucky. Don't judge people cos not all of us had it so good. Everybody wants to go to school and get that degree and live the American dream but somehow they are no fortunate to afford it and they got to do what they got to do. And those who dropped out of college today they can still come back tomorrow and earn the prestigious Doctorate degree.
