TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part2 by oyewolejos(m): 7:08am On May 31, 2012
It beats my imagination that some people are still in the process of getting I-20 at this time. I bet non of u is checking the available interview dates. No more dates in Abuja until October/November while Lagos is September. Why don't you guys plan early enough? The only way out for those of you resuming in August is emergency appointment (If you haven't been refused in the last 6 months). To get a US Student Visa takes a lot of time so plan ahead and give time instead of rushing. I will suggest if you don't have your I-20 by now kindly defer till Spring. Don't rush through the process and still don't get the Visa.
My lil cents

spookie: Hello nairalanders. The information made on this forum as really been helpful.I will be in California in August to commence an MBA programme.my school is in Orange county ,fullerton.I want to find how life is like there for international students, especially Nigerians.what kind of job should I look for on campus?.finally,I have been able to make part deposit of 5500 dollars of my tuition.the total tuition is 22,000.will I be able to work part time to pay the balance of my tuition?.holla back @ your boy!
Orange County is not that popular to Nigerians. Though u will find loads of Nigerians who work in L.A but live or school in Orange County. California is a different place netirely so forget about taking the bus. If u can drive back and forth from L.A to Orange County which is like an hour or may be 2 during heavy traffic then u should be fine wit part time job in L.A. And there is no place in California that u can use part time employment to pay off over 17K$. So be prepared for the battle ahead. If i were you i will transfer to community college just to keep my status then when im stable i can start my MBA. With 6K$ u settled for a year at a community college. Whatever u decides to do don't fall out of status. It's hard to get back in.

AutosRe: The Hidden Truth About Air Bags In Nigerian Cars by oyewolejos(m): 6:16am On Feb 21, 2012
BizBooks:
It is not enough to say the prices I quoted are outrageous. You should have given your own estimate of what it costs to replace an airbag. Remember, the $1000 estimate I gave is per airbag. So if the driver and passenger airbags deployed, you are looking at around $2000 to replace both.

An airbag is not something a roadside mechanic can replace. It requires a highly trained technician. A friend of mine was recently given a $2000 estimate to replace the airbag for a 2006 Infiniti FX35.

The larger point I'm trying to make is this: when an insurance company declares a car as salvage, they usually have very good reasons for doing so. So there is nothing like a minor salvage.
Oga send me your address and i will send both airbags to u for less than $500 provided u have someone to fix it. Maybe in your state it might be more expensive but where i am labor is cheap and we have loads of cars on the road so why will anyone sell an airbag for $2000?
How much did i buy the car that i will replace an airbag for 2000$?
Check out prices on ebay, part channels and other online auto stores for better deals.
AutosRe: The Hidden Truth About Air Bags In Nigerian Cars by oyewolejos(m): 7:36pm On Feb 20, 2012
BizBooks:
The longer I stay on Nairaland, the clearer it becomes that a lot of Nigerians do not realize what they are getting when they buy a tokunbo car from an un-reputable dealer. We have talked at length about rampant odometer roll backs and other shady activities. Today, I will like to talk about non-working air bags.

It is a well known fact that a majority of tokunbo cars brought into Nigeria are salvage or “accidented cars”. Since air bags are designed to deploy even in minor accidents, we can safely assume that all those “accidented” cars brought into Nigeria had deployed air bags at the time of accident. The question now is this: do the shippers of “accidented” cars repair the air bags before selling them to un-suspecting buyers? The short answer is “No” in most cases. As I said earlier, I thought everybody knew this. But since that appears not to be the case, let me explain further.

It is very expensive to repair a deployed air bag. It can cost anywhere from $1000 to $1500 depending on the model of your car (luxury cars cost much more). Since dealers of salvage cars are extremely profit-conscious, you can see why it is not in their interest to fix the air bags despite it’s crucial importance to the safety and well-being of the driver. They will rather repair the cosmetic damages only. Air bags by their very nature are hardly re-usable as they work just once. During deployment, a lot of chemical processes take place. So it requires a trained technician to re-activate the chemical processes and inflation mechanism.

Usually when an air bag is defective for one reason or the other, the air bag light stays on. If you are wondering why the salvage tokunbo cars you see in Nigeria do not have their air bag lights on, the answer is simple: they are manually turned off by the dealers so buyers will not know. In the US, it is illegal to turn off an air bag light and no reputable mechanic will do so for fear of losing his license. But in Nigeria, anything goes.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to tell whether your air bag is working or not. To be on the safe side, assume it is not and drive accordingly. Don’t drive at high speeds hoping that your air bag will save you in an accident, it may not, even if you believe your car is not a salvage. If you have been involved in an accident at speeds as low as 30 mp/h (around 50 km/h) and your air bag did not deploy, have it checked. It may not be working in the first place.

In as much as i appreciate your intention i will like to point out the flaws in this post esp the bolded. The prices u quoted are just outrageous. Am a used car dealer also but i don't sell to the Nigerian market. A used car is a used car, u don't expect it to work perfectly. If anybody buys a car a used one for that matter they can take it to a motor shop and checked for any airbag problem. Is not that serious. The problem with Nigerians is that we wanna ride a 2011 car for less than 1.5 million naira so the need for the dealers to sell substandard products to them. Anybody trying to buy a car less than it's value should be ready for the worst

@djunit1,

The general statistics part of your statement were all Pure Bullshiit. Does living expenses and school fee same from state to state that one can't survive with GA? I got my GA position right from Nigeria since last year June and I have already knew how the allowance will go since then. Out of the allowance, 70% goes for dorms of which food plan is included, 30% goes for my school fee, though this doesn't completely solve my school fee because I have few of it to pay, I don't need ride to class because I only need to walk less than 3 mins to class. Therefore, getting GA in affordable schools and states can solve most school fee problems. I just walked to the student account office and told them I want my allowance going towards my tuition and I was told I'm good and clearance was placed on my student ID card. So ask me, if I have paid all my school fee. ADEBYTE, explanation is proven right in this country. This is US, many Americans don't buy cloths for fashion like in Nigeria, most times they get cloths good enough to shield the cold wind. Ask most of them to remove those jackets/hoodies, all you see is T-Shirt not even polo shirt, how much is T-Shirts in Nigeria?

Well . . . it is a tough one. what she is doing is illegal, and the repercussions I think would be more for her, than for your child. If she's found out, it could be classified as a tax fraud, which people sometimes go to jail for, or pay a fine. I think you should just state your objections and concerns. It's never good to do anything illegal.
Am looking forward to your definition of illegal. The poster states it here that her child is living with the sister so the child is a dependent of the sister for tax purposes. There is absolutely nothing illegal in this present scenario. A dependent for tax purposes doesn't have to be your biological child provided the dependent gets 50% of their cost of living from u. As it is in this case the dependent gets 100% so i don't see anything illegal in claiming the child as a dependent. What if the child starts going to school and want to claim in-state resident for tuition purposes will he/she use the parents residency status ( who are in Nigeria) or the guardian? Will claiming the guardian residency status be illegal too? huh huh huh huh
I wonder how some Nigerians are quick to jump to conclusion that something is illegal. SMH

Bro i think u missed the point. The SNG didn't say they ain't protesting or going to Ojota but they are saying they aren't in support of call for regime change. Even Buhari is not calling for regime change during the subsidy removal protest talkless of a political rookie like Bakare.

Kobojunkie:
Well, that is SNG problem now, not yours. You coming here to claim that he has no right to say what he said is what I am opposing. SNG is well known for backing out when the seat gets hot. The man made all these statements so many days ago, but they waited so many days later to distance themselves? Come on!!! I know you have a brain on you there.

Also, let SNG iron it out with him as always. I mean the group, honestly . . . it's like trying to get in between two lovers really . . . they have dropped him so many times and every single time they keep taking him back, only to turn around and complain again when he does exactly what he is known to do. ROFLMAO!!

Back to the issue questions. Where were you all when this same man called for impeachment of Yar adua and helped install Jonathan, even against the Constitution? Were you asking this same question back then? Cause the whole nation heard him call out numerous times for impeachment of the president. And he shouted all that from the SNG podium back then too. So, what the frell are you on about?
Check your fact Bakare never called for Yar'dua removal but for Jonathan elevation to Acting President. After all this same Bakare went to Aso Rock during the early days of Jonathan Presidency.
Why didn't he stage a protest way before NLC declared the nationwide strike?
He hijacked the protest for his political interest.
This same Bakare is now denying El Rufai despite the huge amount of money he donated towards the CPC campaign.

That still doesn't give Bakare the right to request for a regime change. This is a democratically elected Govt and the people are the custodians of power not an individual. PoliticsSave Nigeria Group Disowns Pastor Bakare by oyewolejos(op): 12:40am On Jan 20, 2012
Less than a week after the strike over removal of oil subsidy, the Save Nigeria Group (SNG), one of the civil society organizations that partnered with labour to fight the Federal Government may be heading for crisis.

The group yesterday dissociated itself from its Convener, Pastor Tunde Bakare, saying that the cleric’s views during the weeklong strike were his and not that of the SNG.
In a statement by its National Coordinator, Benedict Ezeagu and Public Relations Officer, Olabode Francis, the group regretted rumour in the media and government circle that SNG called for ‘regime change’ during protests against hike in fuel prices.

The group said it respects the rights of Bakare to express his political views within the ambit of the law but that whatever views he (Bakare) may had expressed on the fuel price hike controversy were his and had nothing to do with the SNG.

“Pastor Bakare was suspended as a member of SNG in June, 2010 when he tried to railroad the organization into partisan politics without the consent of its founding members and has not been re-admitted since then.
“So, it is very wrong and a disservice to SNG for the government, the media or any member of the public to insinuate or hold that the views of Pastor Tunde Bakare who is an opposition politician, a card-carrying/active member of CPC and the running mate to its presidential candidate are those of SNG,” it said.

It recalled that SNG and Lawyers of Conscience as harbingers and defenders of democracy led Nigerians to the streets in January 2010 to enforce constitutionalism by successfully demanding for the swearing-in of President Goodluck Jonathan as the acting president of Nigeria during the crisis that followed the late President Umaru Yar’Adua’s sickness. The group also noted that while condemning the unwarranted harassment and murder of innocent Nigerians by Boko Haram and overzealous security agents during the anti-fuel hike protests, SNG re-affirms its solidarity with the people and their fundamental human rights.

“The SNG also laments the increasing deployment of religious bigotry, ethnic prejudices and partisan sentiments as instruments for resolving the National Question and therefore warns that such actions represent nothing but an invitation to and recipe for fratricidal war in the country, which is an ill-wind that blows no one any good. It is a threat to the corperate existence of the country, and a disservice to Africa and the impoverished Nigerians who may eventually be murdered if this brewing national turmoil is not immediately nipped in the bud,” the group said

One of the photos shows Mrs. Alison-Madueke, long accused of involvement in a slew of corrupt deals in the oil industry, riding in a limousine with members of her family and NNPC officials.

Another set of photos focus on the young son, named Ugonna Madueke. At a time that the majority of Nigerians are sentenced to extreme poverty and disillusionment, it is unconscionable that the minister and her family live in opulent splendor, their lives complete with private jet(s), expensive vacations, frolicking with local and international superstars such as Dbanj, Neyo and Cecil Hammond.

I have met a lot of people in the US who used the diplomatic passport to come.

No interview. No finger print and thats why its called a diplomatic passport.

Did not know about Diplomatic Passport until some years ago so ask about it. Thats why people working in the External Ministry,Governors,Presidents,Ambassadors, house of Rep and Senators and a host of others with their entourage and children use when travelling.

My cousin has no reason to lie or all the others i have met.

We all Can not know everything and if this is the first time you are learning about this then do a little research about it.

Abi you don hear say Any of this people go interview before for visa?the law requires them to submit the diplomatic passport after they retire or finish their term and revert back to their personal passport but trust Naija we no dey carry last.
Oga no pun intended i think your story is too good to be true. No fingerprints in this post 911 era? Nigerian Passport Holder for that matter? For only 2 million nairahuh huh huh huh huh huh

To those critics who don't understand the intention of this thread and to those who are putting my chrisitianity faith into question all i have for u is that this thread is not to bash any man of God is just to point to the obvious things in these Pastors relationship with each other.
Am not questioning or doubting their relationship with God as everybody will be judged by God accordingly.
Never in my post did i say they are fake or they don't have the holy spirit they claim to have as that is between them and God.
But i won't be intimidated by the scare tactics of blind followers of these men of GOD or smear campaign against my faith.
Instead of you guys to puncture my claim or deny any feud between them u are busy trying to scare me.
I remain a Christian despite the shortcomings of some men of God which is bound to happen as they are all human and they have their own mistakes too.
I will be judged, U will be judged and they will be judged.
God is the judge

The feud between Bishop Mike Okonkwo & Bishop Lanre Obembe is the most embarrassing out of them all. Others were based on Integrity, way of worship and source of their power of miracle. Theirs was based on money donated by a Pastor like them. Marketers in the House of God.
Perilous time indeed
