Can someone Pls shed more light on the Us LPR application process. My mother petitioned for me four years ago,and they replied me this year asking me to assign a choice of agent. Now the qxn I would like answered is how much longer is it going to take before I get my visa?I have been patient over the years, but I'm afraid I'm running out of it.
First and foremost u need to answer this question
Are u Unmarried and under the age of 21?
Is your Mum a US Citizen or a Permanent Resident?

If yes then u are an Immediate Relative of a US citizen.Immediate relatives have special immigration priority and do not have to wait in line for a visa number to become available for them to immigrate because there are an unlimited number of visas for their particular categories. If u fall under this categories then u don't need to wait longer than 6 months all things being equal and correct.

But if your Mum is a Permanent Resident then u have to wait for a visa number to become available. in this case u neveer can tell how long it's gonna take so u have to be patient and have a good immigration lawyer who will keep tab on your application status.
Hope my 2cents help

lol it doesnt seem you have the capacity to converse without feeding your ego by insulting others. be my guest.

lol no it doesnt dumbo. I OWN an EAD card at present and i have NOT applied for a green card. My brother worked with an EAD card and he didnt have a green card application "pending". Sorry dude, just yelling does not make you smart.

The EAD card is given to folks whose green card applications have been APPROVED but have not yet obtained the card. First you have to apply for an adjustment of status I-485 form to obtain the card if you doing so either to apply for a green card (without having to return to your country) and/or you presently have an expiring H1B visa. Please read this link and disabuse yourself of such silly ignorance. http://www.immihelp.com/immigration/employment-authorization-document.html

Besides, the lady in question CANNOT apply for an EAD card as she is presently OUT OF STATUS and ILLEGAL according to the law. You have to prove LEGAL status on your application for an EAD . . . for example as a student you MUST provide a copy of your VALID I-94, newly issued I-20 . . . as an green card applicant you MUST present a I-485 form. Where is she going to get those from? thin air?

lol yelling and cursing only makes you sound silly.

lol no they arent dear . . . i use the EAD card for example so silly folks like you cant just come and be blabbing here.

You seem to be talking to urself . . . be my guest dude. grin

This is completely absurd. She's illegal so how will she obtain an employment authorization document? That document is reserved for temporary workers like foreign students on an internship or optional practical training after school.
OMG u are such a big fool. EAD is given to people whose Green Card application is pending. Since u claim to have passed through immigration processes for 6 years u have been here then it speaks volume of your ignorance about the immigration laws here.

For starters . . . nothing an immigration lawyer can do about this.

2. your SIL is an adult and only the sibling to a citizen . . . it will take her a good 15 yrs or thereabout as she is not considered a priority case (children or citizens who are below 18, spouses of citizens e.t.c.)

3. she made a bad mistake going illegal. That will be a stumbling block should her application finally come through, she will be asked to go back to Nigeria to get her visa (you cant get a US visa in the US) and the consular officer back home has the power to deny her a visa because of her present status.

4. What was she doing all those yrs? Couldnt she have married or gotten a work visa?
Do u even know anything about US immigration laws at all?

This post made u look like a fool no offense intended.
So far her paper is with USCIS then no cause for alarm. Contact a good immigration attorney and they will surely give u a professional advice but with my own lil knowledge about it, She's gonna get it, she is on a waiting list for a Visa number to become available and they will let her know. Just advice her to stay off illegal stuff cos she will soon be fingerprinted and if any criminal record is found then she aint gonna get it.
The average waiting period is 10 years so i think there is gonna be a light at the end of the tunnel pretty soon.
Do u know by any chance whether she has been given an Employment Authorization Document?

Sorry about that chiazogom.

But what is it with that Chinese woman self? Somehow, I just believe that her major job responsibility is to deny every applicant. If not, why is it that every applicant she interviews is denied? I am aware that "No SAT score and No TOEFL score are red flags. But from all I have read about her, I'm not sure she would have given you the visa even if you have those standardized exams. Wetin be her own self?

My advice for you.

Please do not give up. Try again. But if I were you, I would defer my admission to spring 2011, and take those exams. If you cant take the two, take one at least. Honestly, that is what I did. I was admitted to a graduate school for this fall, and GMAT was waived for me because of my strong GPA. But the gurus in the house advised me to take the GMAT regardless of that, because the consular officers could use that as an excuse. I followed the advice, and took the GMAT. My score was not that high, but I don't really mind because I have been admitted already. The GMAT is just for embassy formality. I have to defer my admission to spring 2011 because of the GMAT I just took. My girl friend in the States is mad at me because I have to defer when I have been admitted for fall already. But I told her I would rather defer and wait 3 more months in Nigeria than be denied, even when I can see the red flag in my own application. My advice might be the last you will want to consider now, but I think it's safer that way. Because I am sure the next time you go, the consular might likely ask for any changes/improvement on your application or status. If everything remains the same, and you get the Visa, just know you got it due to divine favour, and not because you merit it. It is stated on the US embassy that you should be ready to present your standardized test scores. Even if your school does not require it, I think the consular wants to see it.

On a final note, having all the documents doesn't guarantee the visa especially with that dreadful chinese woman they are talking about. However, we should always be prepared. God is more than everyone in that cubicle and his favour shall never depart from us. No one shall be on our way to fulfilling our dreams, and not even that Chinese or chinko woman. For those of you still going for your visas this month, go in peace and come back with testimonies.
Who told u that? Its the duty of the school to ask for SAT and TOEFL not the Embassy. The embassy ask what the schools require.
SAT and TOEFL on a good day is not for applicants who have gone through the Nigerian educational system but due to the sorry state of the Nigerian educational system then schools started asking for it.
Some schools do waive SAT and TOEFL for Nigerian students now but some still require it. The onus is on the applicant to tell the consular why he/she was exempted from those tests and not just to say my school exempted me from the test.
U should be able to prove beyond resonanble doubt why u were exempted.
Tons of Nigerian student at my school don't even know the meaning of SAT or TOEFL talkless of taking the test

To those already on F-1 Visa in the US,

whats the real deal anyway?

I ve been informed by good friends on F-1 status that both Postgrad students and undergrad students cannot work off campus in the USA (F1 status requirement), Unlike UK where you are allowed to work off campus and make some £££ but with limited hours (i know this because I did bachelors in UK). Is this truely the case in the states? if so, is this the case everywhere in the states? or dependent on school or state?. US schools out of state tuition is jst ridiculous, I m just curious how you guys survive in the US without been able to work off campus esp wiv huge tuition and fees, coz i m very sure on campus jobs will be too cmpetitive especially in schools wiv loads of int'l students. Can you guys shed more light on these please so prospective students interested in US study could be better informed, know reality and plan their finance in advance.
Honestly on a G the US aint trying when it comes to fees for International student. The tuition are just ridiculous but when u take a critical look at it u still believe it still worth it. But there are still some ways guys go around the work thingy but those aint for a public forum like this.
Some people also try to get scholarship after their first semester while some change to schools that offers in-state tuition to international student. Another option is to go through a community college which is more cheaper than a university.

i have lived in the u.s for about 16 years now and i don't know a university that is free.

Those who go to school for free are financial aid people and those guys are citizens and besides financial aid doesn't even cover all your tuition and books anymore because the govt has cut a lot of the benefits. Now you coming from a different country think you can go to a uni for freehuh? that is a joke.

scholarships is the only other way and academically exceptional people or athletes get that
And u mean u have live here for 16 years?
Guy check your facts very well. Green Card holders are entitled to Financial Aid just like citizen and the amount of aid u recieves depends on your Cost of Attendance and your income. Like someone who is unemployed and needs $6000 for school will get more money than someone who is employed and needs $20,000 for school.
It all depends on individual circumstances and needs.Like u wont expect the Govt to cover all tuition and books fee for someone who is working.
We still have people  that Govt pay for their Tuition and books and still have extra money left to spend.
It all boils down to individual financial needs.

Just go to the inetrview with the statement u used for the admission.
Having less money is not the big deal but the inflow of the money whether they are steady or not.
Moreover the consular dont even care about your statement but your intention which must be genuine.
On your I-20 its stated that u have the required fund so most of the time consulars do leave bank statements out of it.
