I think you're missing something and the young man that complained about sterling bank or another bank not paying interest upfront.
You need to know how treasury bills works.
T.bills are discountable instruments and they are so called because the investor gets its interest upfront. This means that the interest promised on a T-bill instrument is payable on the very day the investment commences. For instance, if a T-bill promises a 10.0% rate per annum and an investor wants to put in N1,000,000, the investor pays only N900,000 from the day of investment but gets back N1,000,000 at maturity. i.e. only N900,000 will be debited from your account on the 1st day of investment, while at maturity, you'll get back N1m. Hence, the N100,000 left in your account which represents the difference btw the investment value you requested from your banker and the amount actually debited from your account is the upfront interest that you've earned from the very 1st date of investment provided you hold till maturity. So, it's not that your banker will credit your account separately with the interest on the day of purchase.

Here's the story, I applied online two weeks before my trip. I didn't get any acknowledgement. Waited for a few days and hubby called since he's in Nigeria. They said they have technical challenges or upgrades. That we should send the letter 4 days later. We waited but didn't still get the acknowledgement. Called again and they said technical upgrades. That if we know someone in Abuja the person can bring the hard copy documents to the HQ.

My sister in law took the hard copy documents to the HQ and someone was demanding 10k from her! Imagine? I am really angry right now. I spoke angrily to her that the visa on arrival application letter is free. She now went to meet someone else at the top who reaffirmed that the letter is free and directed her on who to submit her application to. She was asked to pick it up in the morning.

It seems like a ploy to delay the VOA letter to few days before you leave in order to drive you to desperation. The annoying thing is that those particular useless Immigration officers be comparing the 10k to the cost of shifting your airline ticket to bow you into submission. This is unacceptable.

So my advise to anyone applying for VOA with hard copy. When you arrive just tell them to direct you to where you will drop the applications. DO NOT drop a dime. Please don't spoil this fight against bribery and corruption. Let us stop feeding this monster. Please.

Finally, and not quite related to this topic, my almost 2yr old is potty training and hates to use her diapers for No.1 n 2 (only when she's asleep), don't think I can do the toilet rounds with her considering my state. She loves drinking and as such pees frequently.

good day everyone , thanks for keeping this thread alive , I'm back again and I need so advise from my fellow nairalander , our interview date is next week Tuesday, we applied as a family ,hubby and I with three kids , reason for the trip is to spend the Xmas holiday in US and also celebrate my first child bday over there which is 24th of DEC .. my husband lives outside the country while I stay in nig with the kids , we do visit him whenever the kids are on holiday , now my husband requested I get a letter from my kids school stating that there ll b on holiday at the time we would b vacating in the US which i went to the school and they told me to bring 10k each per child for the letter .I have two kids there making 20k for just letter .. I got a letter free from my last child school cos he attends a different school from his siblings . my question is this
is the letter from the school that important cos I find it too much to pay a school for just a letter since we didnt even state the name of their school on the form ?
also I'm a fashion designer and also a pattern illustrator in a fashion school but hubby wrote home maker on the form which indicates I'm a house wife ,if they ask me what I do for a living ,what will b my reply ?
is my statement of account also necessary since my husband is the the sponsor of the trip ?

I see that some folks intentionally or unintentionally want to derail this sub. For the past few days, I have noticed name calling, insults and pride on this sub. We must not forget that our forum was started by Feelamong on Feb. 24, 2012 for the purpose of helping folks understand and invest in NTB. Today I am a beneficiary of Feelamong’s ingenuity. It will be nice if we keep this forum for NTB.

For those talking about inflation and saving in dorm accounts, you can start a sub on inflation and I know many folks here be willing to subscribe.

Few years back I flipped all my Usd to naira at $/492 and invested all in treasury bills at 18% interest rate for 364 days. Today it’s $/360. When I flipped $ to ₦, some of my friends flipped ₦ to $ predicting $/1000. They said naija was going to burn down but the good Lord did not allow our country to burn down. No body knows tomorrow. I could also have been at loss and still can if ₦ depreciates a lot in future.

My point is that this sub exists to encourage Nigerian young people to cultivate the culture of saving and for me NTB is a zero risk way to achieve that.

Please let’s keep this forum only for NTB investment and please stop all personal attacks. We are all here to learn from each other. Blessings folks.

The picture just shows tenor, amount and rates.

You can invest 100k and above for 30 days and get 13% per annum (higher than T.bills rate)....the longer the tenor the higher the rate.

The joy is that the rates increases with tenor and amount.
For example if you invest 100k for 30 days you get 13% p.a, if you make it 181 days you get 14% p.a.

If you invest 1M for 30 days you get 14% p.a and if you make it 181 days you get as much as 15% p.a.
You can even gat as much as 19% p.a on your investments! Its flexible, you can liquidate at any time and you can rollover capital+interest at the end of the tenor.

Hello people, I got a shocker from Naija embassy at DC. They stopped giving booklets to babies. Said they would rather give adults cos of the "scarcity" of booklets.
Option they gave us was to process emergency travel certificate for the newborn.
Please who has used this recently? I read sometimes back here that it is no longer accepted.
I have about 4 days to my travel date..anyone who knows how I can still apply for visa on arrival ( I know..it sounds very ridiculous but I am desperate).

I think if you have above 50m Naira cash, you can be called a millionaire in Nigeria.
As for me o, you need to have above 100m Naira cash aside your asset.
The acceptable figure is minimum of 1m$ which is about 360m Naira+

Many Nigerians don't have the mental state to control few thousands of naira, much more millions. Besides, if everybody becomes a millionaire, it won't be a fun thing becoming a millionaire. To become a millionaire, you need a very high level of financial disicipline, which majority of Nigerians lack.
