Donating blood because of money, that's wack. Not allowing Nigerians to donate blood, stack ignorance. Not recognizing naija drivers license in Georgia, that's a blunt lie. No disrespect, I live across from a driver's license place in Cobb county, GA and also take part in county activities. My cousin just exchange his naija driver's lic. for a Georgia license. As far as I know you can drive with any foreign license in GA for 1 year. Applying for a Georgia ID Card Any person that is old enough to sign their name, or make a mark indicating their legal signature can apply to the DDS for a identification card. You must provide acceptable proof of identification. You can apply for an identification card if your Georgia driver license is suspended or revoked. You do not have to surrender a Georgia identification card when you get a Georgia driver license or your Georgia driver license is reinstated. A identification card contains the same personal information, photo, signature and special protection against alteration and fraud as a driver license. The cost of the Identification Card is $20.00 for 5 years or $35 for a card valid 10 years. http://www.dds.ga.gov/drivers/DLdata.aspx?con=1747740603&ty=dl |

While arguing with a West African friend in a lobby of a big corp about why Nigerians are distinct and proud of their origin, the elevator open and we joined about 4 other guys. The elevator opens on the 2nd floor: New entrant: O'boy I dey 2nd floor, I dey go pent house go discuss that $1 million contract with the big dawgs W/African Friend: charlie, na ur bros be dis o Panache: Mute and fuming The new entrant in 2 minutes was able to brag about his business and next shipment of hummer that I couldn't help how loud we are sometimes. The sweet things is that some brothers like us for been proud and confident. You can only ytake a brother out of Lagos, you can't take Lagos out of him |
Caveat lector Per Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, Caveat lector is a Latin phrase meaning "Let the reader beware". |
I just hope and pray that they are blogging safely! Teenage bloggers are really a target of predators in the Western world. Thank God for web police. Do we have any in the naija web space. |
Rufaai, the offer ends on Friday 28th instant. Eni your design is cute, simple and leading. Let's see what others will come up with. Thx |
Software development and web development are kind of inter woven in today's Application development world. Most clients in today's world need an app that is web accessible. This is necessary to enable access by telecommuters (employees that work from home) and those in remote sites. For example in a system with infrstaructural limitations like Nigeria, web application development will be more lucrative than client app development. |
FYI, Access is just a flat-file system. It's not advisable for any commercial use that targets a large user base. |
My brother, comparing Oracle to SQL Server is like comparing a KIA with a Toyota. Both are cars, both performance separate the boys from the men. Oracle is more reliable and robust and more accepted than SQL Server. Also Oracle has invested a lot in portability and compatibility of Oracle software with many other systems and applications. |
Thank God for Nigeria. Guys, I'm really impressed with your designs. I will prefer a sample that is simple like the Smartsoft logo for OAL Realty and use a slogan like ", a comfortable place to lay your head". a transparent logo is prefered. Note: Always put a SAMPLE stamp across your proofs, that way your clients won't steal your design without paying. |
There is no customer servcie in Nigeria. The smiling ladies in the bank kills the good treatment they give you, the moment you come once or twice without dropping 'egunje'. It's just a bad habit that we've created for our self. I dropped my naija insurance guy because despite is poor customer service, he never keeps his mouth shut. He thinks he's doing you a favor, whereas it's the other way round. He's found of bragging at 'owambes' about who and who insures their property for him. I did not only save a lot from my new Oyinbo agent, he calls me once in a while to know if my family status has changed or if I've done anything lately that can reduce my premium. that's quality assurance + good customer service. Imagine u going to a store at Balogun without buying a shoe. The owner go curse the hell out of you. Whereas if you go to Office Depot they we willing refer you to another store (sometimes a competitor) if the goods is ot available. It doesn't cost a lot to offer good service. |
Why is it that everything good in Nigeria needs to be in Lagos or Abuja. I was working on a biz plan for a client recently, despite that all the books and gurus advised that projects like that should be situated outside big cities, with examples of Mumbai, LA, NYC, London, my clients insisted on going with Lagos. We need to spread development around in order to develop a solid economy. Personally I prefer Lagos to anywhere in Naiaj, because everything I need is there, but technically and econmically it makes no sense. In the US, small cities attracts Investments by offering incentives such as tax break, cheaper labor and patronage. This is how Atlanta came alive. Just a food for thought. |
Why spend time and money designing IV for a send off party. Keep it Simple, go to www.evite.com and send an online invitation. The good part is that you will be able to track RSVP and know who is coming or not, upload party pix, even send thank you letters at the end. Have fun! |
Same here. It shows that Naija has the right potential for IT Outsourcing |
To celebrate the fact that Nigerians can excel if given a fair chance on a leveled playing field. We can match techies from any part of the world be it America, Asia or Europe. Let me know why you're in Nairaland. |
Max size = 5000 bytes Max Dimension = 200 * 50 pixels Anything within this range is ok. A transparent image is preferable. Thanks a lot guys |

Web based application is the way to go. Check out Saleforce.com and see what they are doing. For a country like our's to survive we need web based application. All we need to care about is a reliable ISP, instead of thinking about server security, backup, disaster recovery etc. |
Try this step by step approach: Php and Mysql for Dynamic Web Sites: Visual Quickpro Guide By Larry Ullman You will need to have a site to test it. I will suggest you install php, MySQL b4 starting |
Just take a ride to Ahmadu Bello way in via or one of those banks, launch IE and see if you will get a connection. |
create a site that contains nigerian names and meaning or a site that has recipe of naija foods. |
Major difference: MySQL is free, SQL Server is not MySQL is more portable than SQL Server |
Announce upcoming events and freebies in the neighborhood on your site and watch the user list sky rocket. We all love freebies! |
Adsense is a sincere and open site. The amount of money you make depends on the traffic. For most of the non-profit web stuffs that I do, I use google adsense to compensate me for my time. Not something big, maybe like $10 a month depending on what's happening. 1 cent there, 10 kobo here, it all adds up. All you need is to register for it and pray that the guys will click it. Even big companies like AOL, EarthLink and Vonage subscribe to Google. |
I read engineering before studying programing at home. although I was very good in Fortran and BASIC back in Naija. In my first just as an Oracle Developer/Junior DBA I was asked the size of the databases I've worked with, I said 10 MB. The guy who conducted the interview yelled 10 MB! I quickly corrected my self and changed it to 10 GB, blaming it on my accent. |
There is no point to re-invent the wheel. If you have a job that a client will pay $500-$800, I prefer to spend $100 on a nice template+customization to suit the client, than spending precious time on designing template. that's the only way to meet deadline,in a highly competitive market. Like someone said, you need to kow what you're doing otherwise u will mess things up. |
OAL is in the business of selling houses and estates in Nigeria. Let me know if you have any more question(s) |
Kazey's suggestion worked for me a couple of times. One important suggestion, though it might sound selfish, grab their domain name ASAP. One guy did that to one of my clients some years back. Best of luck |
Thanks for keeping it simple. cool sites |

Hard Drive space is very important. Also I will suggest that you install a firewire card for faster transfer from camcorder to your computer. I recommend Pinnacle Studio Plus version 10.5 Titanium Edition (PC). I'm working on a project to develop an application for an imaginary real estate client. I normally buy my logos from a Ghanaian paddy down the block, for $20. This is a simple logo using part of the company name OAL Realty. Interested graphic lovers should post their simply 2-3 colors (preferably black, red and blue) design on nairaland (this thread). I will choose the best design and pay designer 5000 naira. Note: File size is of high importance. Best design will be chosen on the 28th of the month. Regards |
