Kano is a city with outstanding potential!

One underestimated treasure of Kano is Dawanau market. I wish that place can be built into a world class trading hub. That market alone generates more foreign exchange for Nigeria than some entire states would in a decade.

I strongly believe that the likes of Kano would be some of the biggest beneficiaries of a restructured Nigeria!!

Wish all states can harness thier potential.

Kudos to Kwakwanso and now Ganduje for all thier infrastructural strides.

So how did APC use Sherrif when it was alledge that 2 of APC biggest critics FAYOSE and WIKE actually brought in Sherrif? By the way I too don't want a one Party State cos it makes mockery of democracy. So this is just a Simple question. Thanks

Fayose and Wike were selfish and probably fell for the trap that had already been set. They didn't bring Sheriff. Sheriff presented himself to them and they fell for it. They fell for it because they were eyeing a vp seat in Aso Rock in 2019.

Sheriff has a known history as a mole that works with any government in power to scuttle the opposition. He worked with Obasanjo while he was an ANPP governor to scuttle and frustrate Buhari at all costs. He singlehandedly killed ANPP. When Jonathan was in power, he worked with him to try scuttle the new emerging APC. Tinubu was smarter and fought him tooth and nail. Now, he has attempted to do that exact same thing with the by working with the APC to scuttle the PDP.

Thank God for the supreme court, Democracy would have officially died today in Nigeria.

Thank heavens!

I am not a fan of PDP right now, but in a democracy you need strong parties. APCs intention was to use Sheriff to kill the PDP in other for it to run a one party state. That would have been the worst thing that would happen to the country given the terrible performance they've recorded.

Victory for democracy!

Politics / Re: To My Fellow Igbos :say No To Hate by PapaBrowne(m): 9:55am On Jul 12, 2017
The thing has become very embarrassing.
To think that South South minorities who were well bonded with the South East have also become subject of this hate by many IPOB supporters is just disheartening.

Sometimes it leaves me thinking that it's maybe fifth columnists trying to use the hate rhetoric to tarnish IPOB. But on Facebook where everybody has a real identity the hate is also very virulent.

IPOB is toeing the part of APC. Prior to the election, APC built its entire life around the hatred for Jonathan. So people with naturally hateful tendencies were the ones that found solace in the party. They won. And found themselves room full of haters who knew nothing but to keep hating on Jonathan who had long left power for them.

The other part I fear that IPOB might be toeing unknowingly is that of Nazi Germany. Hitler ingrained both hate for other races and a sense of superiority in what he termed the Aryan race.
Every other race was sub human except the Aryans. And that's exactly what brought about the concentration camps.

Nnamdi Kanu has to do something to stem the hate rhetoric the IPOB has become known for. I understand he used the rhetoric to gain attention as the world never listens to calm speeches. But the attention has come so the rhetoric must change. If not when the time comes, hateful Igbos would turn thier hate on thier fellow Igbo when there is no more Hausa Fulani or Yoruba to turn on.

If someone is calling for consultation, what is wrong with consulting.

This attitude of aggression is what is driving all the South South groups away from the Biafra movement.

How can you be claiming that Nigeria as in Hausa/ Yoruba is a bully and now turn around and be using coercion to make smaller groups join a course without a single moment of dialogue.

You guys really and sincerely don't understand why both fringe Igboid groups and minorities are not jumping on the Biafra bandwagon. Rather than just wave it off, why not seek to understand it?

This whole disposition of aggression towards the South South is doing more harm to the Biafra struggle than any Yoruba or Hausa man can do.

Politics / Re: Niger Delta Activists; Annkio briggs– Dissociate South South From Biafra by PapaBrowne(m): 4:50pm On Jul 10, 2017
paschu:
You are still missing the point.

The artificial leaning towards geographical delineation of south south (or niger delta, although different), which you allude to, was shallow and secondary; but necessary in the past and present Nigerian context due to the unjust, extractive and exclusive political system of Nigeria.

However, that fictitious geography did not change the primary national identity of each nation within the so called south south. The term Niger Delta did not make uhrobo to become itsekiri neither did it make ijaw to become bini or igbo. So the national identity of each ethnic nation is still very much alive within its cultural DNA. Thus no amount of fake and forced geographical delineation can change that.

For example, I'm yet to hear about a south-south governors forum. Or have you ever heard of any such forum? That could be a huge pointer to the covert non-cultural, non-ethnic and even non-geographical afinity between some of the six states in that region.

Again, Biafra is synonymous to freedom. Thus, if all ethnic nations in the present day Niger Delta choose to merge as a singular political entity in Biafra, no one will oppose it. Fact is, everyone in the confedration will have equal sense of belonging and inclusiveness in a way that will never be influenced by ethnic nationality, population or land mass.

I wish sincerely that you can apply some level of empathy to expand your understanding. Simply put, ethnicity is not a trump card that plays out well for minorities for various reasons and as a non minority, you don't seem to be able to comprehend it.

I can try to help you understand it with a few examples. In all minority towns and cities, Pidgin English is the first language and that's because almost all cities in the South South are bastions of multi-ethnic interactions. Look at Warri for example,a very small city of less than 300 sqkm and yet there are 3 ethnic groups with strong historical ties to the city. Ijaws, Itsekiri and Urhobos all have a stake in the city. Port Harcourt is another example. Ikwerres, Okrika, Ogonis all have a stake in the city. And all these tribes have so intermarried over centuries that the lines have really blurred out.

In the south east its an entirely different scenario. Left, right, center, up or down, its Igbo across board so its easy for IPOB to talk about ethnic nations. Any attempt to promote ethnicity in the South South would lead to chaos and we don't want that. Its simple to understand, but apparently IPOB doesn't have an intellectual arm, so they cant comprehend something this simple.

And much of what you said about Biafra is just rhetoric! There is currently no indication on ground that supports your assertation. IPOB for instance is a purely Igbo group with Igbo language used in most meetings. All vocal leaders of IPOB are of Igbo origin. And the whole talk about Port Harcourt as Igweocha and Bonny as Igwenga are just clear signals of what Biafra would look like. If Biafra would succeed, then IPOB would surely need an intellectual arm to push its communication and not the online touts that are making the whole thing look like a terrible charade.

Truth still remains that the south south minorities would prefer a union with the South East over a union with the rest of Nigeria, but surely not under this kind of IPOB led organisation.

You are simply spewing the same crappy propaganda you are fed by the enemies. You are totally ignorant of the options IPOB is proposing. Yet you slander them ignorantly because you are brainwashed to hate your own blood.

Well, be informed that IPOB proposes a confedrated Biafra where full liberty for all national groups will be the norm. Every indegineous ethnic nation will be an equal partner in Biafra, with full ownership of their lands and resoures. Power will devolve to the regional govenments. The central government will be weak. And there will be nothing like a majority or a minority but equal citizens in the entire confederation regardless of your tribe or region.

I doubt that Nigeria will ever be that awesome let alone giving anyone that dimension of freedom.

No bro, its you who is actually ignorant of the sensibilities of the minorities.
Let me give you an example. You are not aware that minorities of the South South do not like ethnic groupings and are not particular about ethnic affiliations as it is to most of them a disadvantage. Most ethnic groups in the south south are small with populations below 3 million. The only big one, the Ijaws is so scattered in geography that it is literally impossible to govern as one. As a result, the minorities have a preference for geographical delineations over ethnic delineations. That way, just like small fishes survive the ocean by swimming together in huge blocks to ward off attacks from bigger fishes, the minorities have chosen to identify their minority status under the term Niger Delta or South South. That way they can speak with one voice since they share many similarities both in advantages & disadvantages.

Now, the Igbos on the other hand are a huge block with probably over 40 million people home and away and have a pretty well defined geography. So its very advantageous for to speak along ethnic lines same way Yorubas and Hausas speak along those lines.

If only IPOB had an intellectual arm, they would understand this simple fact and rather than talking about ethnic nations where South South is concerned, they would be talking about a united geography where all and sundry are free people. Free of ethnic biases, devoid of ethnic groupings and simply a group of loving people all living together in peace and harmony.

You need to do more dialogue with the minorities to understand why all the "we are not part of Biafra' is happening.

Restructuring isn't the solution but true federalism and resource control is. Until each state generates revenue and take care of themselves without putting pressure at the centre, different agitations will spring forth

The real problem with Nigeria is both over centralization and terribly weak states. We need to regionalize along the current geopolitical zones and probably also maintain the existing state structures.

Overcentralization in Abuja is the biggest problem. Why should Fashola as minister of works sit in Abuja and be responsible for the repairs of one small patch of road inside Eket or say Birnin Kebbi. Its a no brainer. Why should power be generated with gas in Port Harcourt and pumped all the way to Maiduguri when there is enough opportunity for solar power? Why do we need clearance from Abuja before Fulani herdsmen attack is responded to. Things would never work like this.

On the issue of weak states, a recent report indicated that 80 percent of the states were literally nonviable as they would all have broken down if not the FG interventions the got. Imagine these already weak states now having to take up the responsibility of the funding the Police, Trunk A roads and other major infrastructure, Power and others. It would be complete chaos.

The 6 geopolitical regions as they are would be the best template to operate. Fringe localities that don't feel like they are well placed would have the option of a referendum to determine where the should be.

Surely this means Biafra is not viable?

We don't prefer to be part of Nigeria. Given a choice, we would rather be with our South East brothers in a separate country than with Nigeria.

However, we would only do such on an equal pedestal and Biafra led by IPOB doesn't represent that as it has chosen to largely make itself an Igbo movement. That's the only problem we have.
So don't be decieved.
Politics / Re: DSS Plots To Portray Nnamdi Kanu As Jesus Christ -- IPOB by PapaBrowne(m): 2:05pm On Jul 09, 2017
Igboesika:

What do you mean that they bow down to Kanu ?, if Yorubas can lie on the ground greeting who is nobody in their land, how much more Nnamdi Kanu who is not only a leader of Ipob but a prince in his community ie : his father is a traditional ruler.
Still on the issue of knelling down.. in Igbo culture, there is tradition that mandated everybody to knell down while greeting someone from your maternal home which is popularly called "Nnaochie" whether the person is a kid or not, it's expected that you must bow before him( not worship).
Now, do you know the relationship between those people knelling before KANU ?. Something gave rise to that, they didn't just knell down for knelling sake.

On the issue of going to shrine, that place is an ancestral home for all Igbos. Google will help you on that because explaining it will take much of my time.

On the issue of Jews. Are you telling me that he should drop his Jewish belief because majority of his followers are Christians ?.
If they are not comfortable with his religion, why are they all throwing their weights behind him ?
What happened to freedom of worship then ?

Forget about Yorubas. They have their own culture and that is their business. It shouldn't be copied. Now let me ask you, have you as an Igbo man ever bowed down to anybody? Its only God you bow to. Why are we now seeing pictures of people bowing to Nnamdi Kanu. The other day, women were laying wrappers on the floor for him to pass in a bid to create a replica of when Jesus was entering Jerusalem. Its terrible strategy. I have seen propaganda by IPOB sites stating Nnamdi Kanu healed a man with a handshake and I am wondering what this whole thing is turning into??
I know that Arochukwu is a historical source point but most Igbos don't have a connection to that. You probably have never visited and have no intention to ever visit. Nnamdi Kanu's visit would only have negative connotations for most Igbos who associate such places with evil.

Does IPOB know that whatever strategic choices they make today have the ability to uplift or destroy the lives of millions both today and in the future?
Are these guys aware that they are turning a mission into a charade?? Strategy is everything. And if IPOB must move to the next level, it needs to put together an intellectual arm or better still a think tank. Anything short of that would see the entire progress tumble like a pack of cards in a few months! Within months there would be terrible in fighting.

We are even expecting more propaganda up on propaganda against him. This is a sign to show that Ipob has gone far ahead more than people think, because you only try to pull someone ahead of you down not the one below.

More propaganda against Kanu.. More awareness
More propaganda against Kanu.. More recognition.
If not that they are opposing us, who could have heard our voices ?.
Todays, everybody is discussing Biafra, Al-Jazeera, BBC, the whole of social media is BIAFRA, in fact you can't sell your papers without having Biafran topics. Even here on Nairaland, Biafran topics attracts more viewers than others
Opposition speeds the agitation indirectly.
So, let the children of lucifer continue doing their job because it's a blessing in disguise.

God bless Nnamdi Kanu
God bless all lovers of freedom.

Lets face realities!! IPOB is very poor on strategy!! Every struggle has phases! On phase one which is publicity, there has been success for IPOB. Thats pretty easy to achieve these days. The next phase is Acceptability. And this is where IPOB needs to take more strategy classes.

*Having people visit Kanu and bow down before him is just a terrible strategy.
*Having Kanu visit shrines and carrying Jewish shoals around continually where majority of the population is staunchly Christian is just a terrible strategy.
*Having the crowd singing "Kanu is another messiah" is a poor strategy when you consider that Igbos are the most independent minded of all Africans.

Ojukwu was a better strategist devoid of emotions and et he lost.

There are a lot other phases and IPOB is already fumbling terribly. There is harmonization. There is execution. And a whole lot more complex strategic inputs and yet on simple acceptability there is already fumbling. I am afraid, this whole progress will tumble like a pack of cards in no time. And its annoying because the north would claim victory again this time without lifting a barrel.

So if a star government wants to build a road infrastructure, it needs the permission of the Feds.
We do really need to restructure the country.

I understand the need for checks and balances and the Essenes of an EIA report before any major project is carried out, but I'll ask, who gets the FGs projects?

I can give u 10 advantages over this, but lemme give u only few, there are many places in lagos that this size will make transportation difficult, unless they wanna use it on d main roads only ( danfo size is small and can go more places). Danfo size can maneuver easily, which means getting to ur destination faster. Danfo size means, bus get filled faster (u know lagos, every second is money). It makes brain to use danfo size wen u consider maintenance too. More people will get employment with danfo size too. This can work in some area, not all, at all. At least, i ply brt from ikorodu to d Islands whenever am going those route (that makes sense)
The problem is you are looking at this from very individualistic perspective. And that's the problem with Nigeria. Collective good is hardly ever taken into consideration and that's why we are bereft of development.

Why should vehicles be looking to maneuver easily. Shouldn't vehicles be moving in an orderly fashion instead of seeking to outwit each other? Do you know the consequences of "maneuvering easily " on our collective good with regards to getting to our destinations faster?

Easier to maintain? I don't know why you think so

Dude, you are talking crap. This is not a state government project. It's 100% private. And it's been under construction for some years. The Governor has been in power for just a few months.

However, the project is made very interesting by the fact that the governor himself actually put together this project long before he became governor. His firm, Afrinvest is the key financiial engineer for the project.

The beauty about the project is that that whole axis is a gas hub with connecting gas infrastructure scattered Accross the area.

The plan is to have an industrial hub around the facility where industries would have access to 24 hrs electricity supply. Many industries have already signed up. Dangote has a fertilizer plant coming up there. The other great benefit is that a seaport is already in the works for that axis.
