Uber needs to find additional monetization models to add to the percentage charge on drivers.

Uber lost a whopping $3billion last year. Something surely isn't right with its financial model.

All it runs is a platform, Human Resources and maybe investment in new tech! So where is all that money going! Not good. Uber shouldn't pack up and send us back to the days of yellow cabs abeg! I know Taxi drivers can't wait!

This kind of Slavery!

And if the next Northern president gets sick or passes away in power, we have to bend over backwards again just so the power hungry North gets power again and the cycle goes on and on.
And the annoying thing is that if you recommend a middle beltan as President, that same North would fight aggressively against it.

Isn't it time we all realize that producing the president doesn't add any benefit whatsoever to the region the president comes from.

Jonathan was president for 5 years yet his home state Bayelsa didn't an extra kilometer of road nor did it get a single percent rise in its HDI as a result of his presidency. Rather, Benin Ore road was fixed, Abuja-Kaduna rail was built, and a whole lot else was done elsewhere. The South South as a whole benefitted too little.

Obasanjo was President for 8 years, Ogun got absolutely nothing. Visit Otta and you'd understand the paradox. The roads to Otta is terrible. Obasanjo rather focused his energies on the Niger Delta.

Then Katsina state. The state has produced the 2 northern presidents who have ruled the country for 5 years in the last 10 years. But not a single industry, not a single infrastructure project, not a single improvement in HDI.

Isn't it time we realized that what we need is restructuring this country along the lines of the six geopolitical zones and having leaders in the mound of Ahmadu Bello, Awolowo etc all leading thier respective zones competitively?

There is no reason why Osibanjo should be prevented from contesting if his performance is on point.

Politics / Re: Edo State To Begin Fertilizer Production In June by PapaBrowne(m): 12:32pm On Jun 02, 2017
The quantum of development taking place in Edo State at the same time is tremendous!!

Gelegele Seaport & Agro Industrial Park.
Ossiomo Industrial Park
AZura power plant!

Obaseki would make this state the greatest in Nigeria! It's already started! The amount of road reconstruction that is happening in just 6 months is a huge pointer to what is coming

What I like is the super intelligent approach to governance Obaseki is deploying! For instance, the idea of the fertilizer blending plant is to ensure that the right kind of fertilizer suited to the soil and produce type is blended for farmers. For instance, tuber crops require lots of Potassium and not much Nitrogen. But the only fertilizer found in the market in Nigeria is the one size fits all NPK 15:15:15 and so yields are poor. With the blending plant, expect to see increased yields!

You have a valid point dude, hmmmmm Never thought towards that direction, but there is one thing I want you to get, our indigenous language will make understanding science from a fundamental aspect possible. Just envision being able to understand the concept of gravity using ur mother tongue. There is a guy on this forum musicwriter, he raised some valid points why our indigenous language shoiuld be used in our schools to teach sciences. If you love to know more, check him out, go to his blog and read some of the articles he has there.

There are bound to be some advantages if this noble idea is implemented.

It might be an interesting try. I would really like to know the benefits beyond art. But I affirm that on a grand scale of social development and growth, the negative impact would by far outweigh the benefits.

Our numerous language is actually an advantage not a disadvantage. Inability to share knowledge began when our lands were invaded and were shared along new national lines by European colonialists who imposed a new languages upon us. If that didn't happen we would've remained in our original nation states speaking one language; like Japanese, German, Austria and Switzerland which you cited. So, the confusion you alluded to wasn't natural, it was created by Europeans. What we intend doing now is revert to our natural languages and we'll achieve what other nations had.

No, it's not a disadvantage to Russians, Germans, Japanese not to speak English. Its just as a disadvantage to an English man (YOU) not to speak Russian, German, Japanese as is for them.

@konfused Thanks

Share with me the advantages our numerous languages have brought us. I would like to know them. The reason the Europeans could come conquer us in the first place was our numerous languages. Its difficult to conquer people who speak with one voice.
Nairaland is a good example that mirrors the disadvantages of our numerous languages. The only reason Ibos identify as Ibo and Yorubas identify as Yoruba and curse themselves senseless here on Nairaland is the simple fact that their mother tongue is different. Their physical genetics are the same. Their cultures are very similar to an outsider. Their characteristics and behavioral patterns are same. The only difference: their mother tongue. And thats the reason for all the hate and lack of progress.

It is a disadvantage to anyone seeking to engage in business internationally to not speak English. You would loose deals and your business will keep shrinking no matter how good you are. The Japs and Germans and Chinese are smart. They are learning English at an alarming rate.

We need to understand human progress to be able to make progress. And the recommendation from the old men ruling us is antithetical to progress.

Germans, Russians, Japanese, learn these subjects in their own language. It will be a tremendous leap for Nigeria and Africa if we can implement this strategy.

Dude it will be no leap for Africa! And let me explain since you appear reasonable.

The number one historical reason for the backwardness of Africa is the multiplicity of languages that existed on the continent. And the reason for that multiplicity of languages is the the thick unnavigable forests that separated communities. The biggest demerit to the numerous Languages across Africa was our inability to share knowledge. Without the sharing of knowledge, growth would not exist.

Japan has 120 million people speaking Japanese. German, Austria and Switzerland have over 100 million people speaking German. China has 1 billion people speaking Mandarin. And so on and so fault.Go back to their history and you'll find that they had numerous languages but later worked out a unifying language which they now all rally around. Now, what would be the benefit of Idoma spoken by just 2 million people? The USA is the greatest country in the world. They all weren't speaking one language when the got there, but today English is the unifying language.

English is now a universal language. Anyone who doesn't speak the language is automatically disadvantaged. Germans , Russians and Japanese are aggressively learning the language!
Attempting to forcefully strengthen local languages would only create wider divisions amongst people that are already too divided.

The senselessness of this administration is beyond normal.
So you teach a child living in Ondo mathematics in Yoruba language and he graduates and can't even get a job in Benin City that is barely 100km away because he can't communicate!!

Even China and Japan as advanced as they are have begun to teach in English in thier universities. In fact the demand for English teachers in these countries is so large that they pay them and provide housing just to make them stay.

We need the sack the old folks sitting in Abuja!

Lots of lessons from that video.

The protectors were literally useless against the thieves.
A terribly loud sounding alarm would have done a better job as their coordination would be hampered.
Another idea for residential homes is to connect protectors to a DC source ready for activation in the event of an intrusion

Politics / Re: What Is The Benefit Of Breaking Nigeria up? by PapaBrowne(m): 10:09am On May 30, 2017
We can start with regionalization.

Many people forget that the country that created Nigeria designed a formula for itself that works. The United Kingdom has four countries in one country. England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. They looked for what would work for them and built something around it.

The truth of the Matter is that the best formula for Nigeria is staring us in the face and if anything , we should have Abacha to thank for creating the geopolitical zones that Ekwueme recommended.

Making the geopolitical zones the bedrock of our development would make all the difference. The fight for the center would be much less.

Imagine a scenario where Tinubu is the Premier of the South West. Instead of Peter Obi eyeing presidency in Abuja that would never work, he pursues the development of South east from Enugu. Imagine Donald Duke covering the South South. Imagine Kwankwanso heading the North West etc. The struggle for the center would be much less. Ahmadu Bello and Awolowo till today remain great icons. They, as premiers were much more popular and had greater impact on thier people than Tafawa Balewa & Azikiwe. Those six years of regionalism are about the only Nigeria ever worked.

We need to go back to that template. And it's pretty simple. Many of the functions controlled by the FG should be ceded to the regions. Let the FG manage Defence & External security, Foreign relations, Macro economics, etc. The regions would simply take over areas like railways, ports, So called federal roads, resource extraction, etc.
The states must be retained and would continue to serve under the same system.

This thing is very easy to achieve and I see no reason why nobody is discussing! Truth is most of the people that we leave to have these discussions old and past their prime. Young people need to start plotting their future and forcefully or otherwise seize the narrative current controlled by yesterday's men.

Take it one by one if you want it to be successful.
Remove all those house of Rep and LG lists.

Lets start by talking about the Governorship seat. Delta State has been very unfortunate with leadership. Okowa is the greatest disaster the state has seen.

I would not support APC taking over the state but people like Pat Utomi would make much more sense than the joke that is sitting on that sit right now! He has done absolutely nothing in his two ear whereas Obaseki that just became governor 6 months ago has done so much in Benin you'd be amazed.

So my list would start and end with Utomi as long as he doesn't contest under APC!

Theres nothing like "South South" so stop grouping them together. The Edo man and the Cross Rivers man have nothing in common; NOT THROUGH HISTORY, ETHNICITY OR EVEN GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION. Cross River is East of the Niger, Edo is West of the Niger. They are not the same.

Why do people have these kinds of mentalities? Why on earth can people be so jealous when they see others uniting together? Why are folks like you so sad and broken that your only succor would be to cause divisiveness.

FYI, we don't need no history that has been terribly distorted by European invaders+ Other Big Tribes to define ourselves. We use our current day realities to craft our own existence. And you know what, we, the so called little tribes of Southern Nigeria have chosen to be one people. And as nature would have it, much and most of our cultures & customs both in the past and today are very similar. Much and most of our geographical attributes are similar. The mangroves, thick tropical forests, coastal waters, etc. Much and most of our people share similar ideological tendencies.

So yes, we are the South South. And we love it like that. And our collective language is the Pidgin English.
I as an Edo man feels more at home in Uyo or Calabar than I feel any day in Osogbo. Same way a Rivers man feels more at home in Benin than he would feel in Ibadan..
The South South is real, no attempt to break the love will work!!

I am actually surprised that an old state like IMO with plenty hotels has low igr

But Edo State and Cross Rivers have little or no oil revenue and Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa with loads of oil revenue are 14th and 20 something on the list.

What does that tell you? IGR has nothing to do with oil revenue. It has to do with 2 things: Economic activity and the willingness of the authorities to look beyond Abuja.

Funnily, with all the negative talk people like to chump on the South South, we are actually by far the best performing even without oil.

4 South South states are in the top ten. In fact Edo and Cross Rivers don't even receive anything from oil sef and yet they are punching hard.

We contribute all of the nations wealth and and still generate our own resources for ourselves while others just wait to share from our natural wealth!!

Cargill, the largest user of Cassava starch in the world was already on the way to establish a massive Starch and syrup processing facility in the Staple Crops Processing Zone in Kogi State.

Nigeria

20th June 2014

The Vice-President, Cargill West Africa, Mr. Peter Neilson, has said the proposed $100m Cargill Starch Plant in Kogi State will produce up to 90,000 metric tonnes of cassava starch annually when it becomes operational.

He explained that the plant would transform the economy of the state and Nigeria by boosting agric-businesses and industrialisation as well as providing jobs to the teeming unemployed people.

He also said the Cargill Agricultural Production Processing project is a potential investment to support the staple crop processing zone that is planned in Alape, Kogi State.

Nielson spoke on Wednesday at an inception workshop for Cargill Re-settlement Action Plan for the proposed Cargill starch.

According to him, the model for the plant which will occupy over 30,000 hectares of land, is an inclusive farming model that will enable small farm holders to have access to training and fair market for their crops.

The Consultant and Technical Adviser on Agriculture to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. James Awoniyi, said the Federal Government would look beyond farming for feeding purposes for the project.

He added that the government viewed the investment as important. Awoniyi also commended the Kogi State Government for having a robust agricultural policy since its creation.

The Kogi State Governor, Mr. Idris Wada, who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi, said the state government was appreciative of the Federal Government’s support to its agricultural and industrial development programmes.

He noted that the investment from Cargill was a symbol of such support.

He also said the Cargill Agricultural Production Processing project would enable the American investor become the major private sector investor to support the agricultural transformation strategy set out by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and supported by the Kogi State Government.

Wada assured all the parties involved in the project that all transactions relating to land acquisition and land tenure would be conducted transparently and in accordance with established laws and international best practices.

He assured them of co-operation, hospitality and support of the state government and the host community.

That, he explained, was meant to further encourage Cargill and enable the company to expand its scope beyond starch production into the development of value addition for other crops such as rice, cotton, soya- bean and sugarcane
