Politics / Re: Dangote Refinery: Govt Sponsored Monopoly In The Making by PapaBrowne(m): 9:59pm On Dec 31, 2017 |
What kind of reasoning is this?? That we should rise up and protest against Dangote because he is building a refinery that a whole FG has refused to build for the last 30 years?? What’s my business if he is running a monopoly. Facebook is running a monopoly on social media and we are all doing just fine. Google is running an absolute monopoly in search and we are fine. Android and IOS are running a Global duopoly in operating systems and the world is fine! NNPC has run a monopoly in the oil sector for as long as we have known and we are not dead. Why is DANGOTE building a refinery suddenly a problem. Just for your info, did you realize that throughout the recession the only Nigerian commodity that didn’t go up in price was cement?? Asides, there is no industry in the country that Dangote operates a monopoly. Sugar, Cement, Flour, etc he has very aggressive competition. 14 Likes 1 Share |
Politics / Re: Lagos Govt. Promise Electricity For All Lagos Homes by PapaBrowne(m): 6:20pm On Dec 31, 2017 |
LAGOS EMBEDDED POWER PLAN Representation of entire value chain The critical value chains in the power sector including generation and distribution and transmission are fully represented in the project. Also important is the guarantee of gas feedstock from producers and bankability of the project. First of its kind in Nigeria, the project will generate up to 3,000MW of electricity through deployment of power plants in strategic locations around the state. The first phase will be commissioned before the end of the first quarter of 2018, and is expected to deliver 520MW incremental power, while additional 1,070MW will be delivered by the fourth quarter of 2018. The balance of 1,410MW will be completed by 2022. Iron-clad guarantees Many power projects in Nigeria cannot take off because of unavailability of solid guarantee usually in the form of Power Purchase of Agreements. However the Lagos state government power project is backed by 3-months rolling bank guarantees to support the PPAs which will be signed by distribution companies and the Embedded Power Providers (EPPs) to enhance bankability of the project. A special Purpose Vechile (SPV) will be registered under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) to undertake critical aspects of the programme. The state will also delineate ring-fenced embedded power deployment areas into manageable zones from end users based on kilowatts/megawatts of power injected into transformers/feeders allocated to sub vendors all backed by agreements. Certainty of feedstock The Lagos state power project may not suffer uncertain delivery of feedstock common with major power plants in Nigeria. While Nigeria has about 25 power plants with 80 percent of them relying on gas, power supply is barely 4,000MW due to unavailability of gas feedstock. In the agreement, Lagos state government signed with investors, it will secure gas for the project through guarantee to gas suppliers using its Ibile Oil & Gas company. The state will prequalify eligible gas suppliers in a joint venture agreement to receive the guaranteed gas from gas producers and sell to end users. JV companies will also be responsible for rollout of pipelines as required. “Given the intractable challenges of local gas market, and to guarantee uninterrupted gas supply to the EPPs, Lagos State has finalised arrangements with reputable international gas suppliers to deploy a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) to be moored on Lagos waters and this will be further supported by trucking of LNG from the South-South (in the short-term),” said an agreement the state has with investors seen by BusinessDay. Cost recovery mechanism The state will embark on an independent and comprehensive power audit exercise in areas where the embedded power will be deployed. These include Epe, Ikorodu, Ikeja, Badagry, Marina, Ibeju Lekki, Apapa and Ikoyi where the embedded project will be deployed. EPPs will generate and inject off-grid power for distribution through the network of Eko and Ikeja Discos. Further investments will be made in upgrading distribution infrastructure through the power sector and cost will be recovered from wheeling charges due to the DisCos based on agreed terms. The Lagos state government will enter into a JV with credible partners for the rollout and installation of smart prepaid meters in the areas where embedded power is to be deployed. The DisCos will be assisted by vendors in collection who will provide bank guarantees for power supplied to their feeder stations, after adjustments for commercial and technical losses and administrative charges. DisCos revenues from the sale of embedded power will be ring fenced from other obligations. Interesting the project is enjoying wide support from residents in the state as evidenced from the fact that there has not been much opposition to the proposed tariff of N52.52 per kW. Strong legal framework Lagos will enact a legal framework to be known as the Lagos State Embedded Power Law as well as the a law on power theft which will prescribe still penalities for power theft in the state. There will also be a proposed Lagos state power council (LSPC) that will be a voice for consumer protection, advocacy and negotiation of end user tariff. The governor will appoint the chairman and will will have in DisCos and other interest groups. |

Ajibel: I know that very well. The refinery was originally planned for Ondo state. But Fashola ensured that Dangote moved the plant to the LFTZ. Now I'm refering to Fashola as Minister of Power, works and Housing. His performace is terribly poor. Buhari has so infected him with incompetence that Ambode as Governor has probably constructed more Kilometers of road in Lagos that Fashola has done in the whole country despite boasting that he recieved the highest budgetary allocation every in the history of works ministry. N2.2 trillion Naira capital budget in 2017 and you cannot see even a completed 50km road anywhere in the country. So I know what I'm talking. The power plan by Ambode would be an interesting one. To bypass approval from the FG, they have to install multiple power plants that are less than 10MW in size. 10MW would power maybe 10,000 homes. To do that they have top work in tandem with the distribution companies Eko Electric and Ikeja Electric(owned by Duex Projects & Sahara Energy). No need for transmission lines as the power plants dont have to run through those lines. My big fear is the FG would come with a silly policy refusing EIA approval of the gas pipelines that should criss cross underneath the lagoons to the various locations of the embedded power plants. |

Put the vines in the ground and they start off in a few days. Its important though, if you want good yields to use virus free vines! |

Ambode would Achieve this feat and shame Fashola. Dangote should be made President of Nigeria. He has built a pipeline all the way to his refinery in Lagos that would pump gas from the Niger Delta which is enough to power both the refinery and the entirety of Lagos. If this feat is achieved Lagos would officially be cut out of the mess that is Buhari’s Nigeria. But I bet the FG is already working out a plan to scuttle this. |

hardywaltz: Ok. Do we also import Garri?? Abi the sand they use in planting Garri eats dollar? The price of Garri literally tripled. As per oil price, Yar adua experienced the worse oil price crash but we didn’t suffer a recession. Obasanjo met oil at $15 in 1999 and it stayed so and only peaked at $34 in 2003. He met reserves of $3 billion. He didn’t complain about abdulsalami or Abacha. He simply went to work and built the economy experiencing steady growth back to back. Hmmmm. I wish Yusuf quick recovery. I have always liked his demeanor alongside his sisters and thier mother Aisha. Very different from Buhari. That hospital doesn’t look like a place that can deal effectively with such intensive trauma cases. Now he can’t be flown abroad until he is stable. Isn’t this message clear? Can’t these leaders just build world class hospitals so that Nigerians don’t have to always travel overseas for medical cases? It’s just sad. You would have thought that after spending 6 months in London hospitals, Buhari would come back and declare a state of emergency in Nigerian Health sector. But look at the budget, nothing new. Now his son is stuck here!! Looks like a sign that screams:: Health sector! Health sector! Health sector!! 2 Likes |
Politics / Re: Presidency Lists 17 Major Achievements Of Buhari In 2017 by PapaBrowne(m): 9:55am On Dec 30, 2017 |
Let me respond to all the 17 points listed. 1) This government brought us into the only recession we have ever experienced since 1985. We the people of Nigeria brought ourselves out of the recession Buhari put us into with our usual dexterity and capacity to survive extreme conditions. 2) The Central Bank Governor knew what to do all along but Buhari was preventing him from doing the right thing by devaluation. As soon as Buhari got sick and went to London, the Governor presented his intervention program and passed it on to Osibanjo for approval. And that’s exactly what saved Nigeria. Buhari’s archaism is responsible for all the problems witnessed in the last 2 years. 3) Best stock market performance indeed. We were the worst performing last year. Let me put it in perspective. Imagine in a class of 30 students, you carried 29th position last year with 10 over 100 as your score on the test. This year you now take 26th position with a score of 30 over hundred. Well, that’s an improvement when you are an olodo. But if you have been top ten in the class with scores above 70 over 100 for the last 10 years, you would definitely be hiding your face in shame. Nigeria’s stock market cap grew this year but it was $80 billion in 2013 and has crashed down to $36 billion as at November 2017. There is nothing to celebrate. The stock market is 3 Times smaller than just 4 years ago. 4) When the price of Rice gets back to the N8500 it was in 2014, I will start to take them seriously. A rice revolution that jacked up the price by 100%. Hmmm. Something isn’t adding up. Two questions: if we have increased local production, shouldn’t the price drop radically abi dollar affect the sand used for planting? Secondly, all I saw in the market this Christmas is imported rice. Where is all the local rice. I usually see them on newspapers but never in the market. 5) The Government is still talking about 4000 mw after lying to us that they achieved 6000 mw the other day. We haven’t moved an inch. There’s barely any improvement in supply. No new strategies to improve supply. 700 billion would go down the drain. Whereas Dangote alone is going to put up 12000Mw in Lagos within the next 2 years. 6) Paying pensioners is listed as an achievement!! That's a clear sign that there is nothing to list!! 7) The ease of doing business part is the only point that might backing. And clearly this all happened in the time Buhari was sick. Osibanjo took this seriously and some results started showing. As soon as Buhari came back, everything stopped. Again, this just goes to show that Buahri is the problem of Nigeria. The rest of the things on the list are not worth the time. As only a shameless government would list such things in 2017 as achievements. That JAMB remitted more money is listed. Not how the money JAMB remitted has been used to improve the education system. That you have taken new loans, not what you used the loans to accomplish. That you are launching a tax amnesty scheme. Can you imagine? Its just pathetic. If you notice, there is no talk of infrastructure development despite budgeting over N2.2 trillion for capital projects in 2017. That is a whooping $7 billion. That amount of money would build 1000km of brand new 6 lane expressway @ $7million per kilometer which is very expensive. Or better still, the Abuja-Kaduna railway is 200km and cost about $874 million. With the capital budget for 2017, we would have built an additional 900km of the Abuja Kaduna type rail across the country. But nothing. Absolutely nothing is anywhere on ground so they come up with a terrible list of achievements for the unintelligent zombies to dance to. 355 Likes 51 Shares |

Realistically, all the ports can work if we had leaders and people that had the slightest form of intelligence. The Niger Delta sits atop some of the largest gas reserves in the world enough to power the whole of Africa. If the guys at the helm have a brain, plug and play industrial parks with access to the cheapest energy would be built accross the region which would attract investors like crazy. Edo state is lucky as the Governor Obaseki is one with a brain. He is building an industrial park on the back of the Azura power plant and then capping it with the gelegele seaport. And he is not just talking. The Azura plant is already built. The Industrial park is in motion. And the seaport would soon start. 24 Likes 4 Shares

The writer should just gerraout!! Last year, when the dollar price spiked, I opted to construct locally a machine I would typically import. I got a machine fabricator who constructed a whole lot other machines. He had an array of machines he had constructed and had a long list of customers. He was proud of his work. I told him the machine I needed required some in depth technical understanding. I queried his understanding of DELTA T in the determination of heating points and he was lost. I knew I’d have a problem, but I went ahead. I promised to pay 30% higher if he does a good job. He was confident he would. I gave him videos and gave him good suggestions on how to ensure it pans out well. To cut the long story short. He constructed rubbish that cost me millions. Never worked properly. Used it 2 times. It’s a relic. I bought a new machine from China. Told the engineers what I wanted via email. They sent me a drawing for confirmation. In 2 weeks, they sent me a test video. Shipped in the machine afterwards. It has served me for over 1 year. Not a single issue. Government can do local content. Private sector is not compelled to. 3 Likes |

Isn’t it a terrible shame that you guys(a whole federal government) cannot even repair a single refinery and yet one individual can build a whole refinery with his hard earned money. This is the worst government in Nigeria’s history. They have nothing to show for 3 years of misrule so they look for things others have done and begin to lay claim. When they feel Dangote is not thier friend, EFCC will suddenly remember that his refinery was built on fraud or forgery or some other thing they can’t explain. 91 Likes 7 Shares |

Politics / Re: Commissioned Investments This Year Across The Country by PapaBrowne(m): 4:45pm On Dec 12, 2017 |
Dear presidency, If you notice, all the investments you listed were either attracted by the previous government or by specific state governors. I start with the first one, Indorama. Construction began on the plant in March 2013 and was to be completed in early 2016. The dollar tragedy that came with the new government stalled the completion and that's why the plant was completed in 2017. This is a private sector projected started under the previous administration. You can read directly from the company's website here https://www.indoramaeleme.com/project-details.php?id=77 The second on the list, the Fertilizer Blending plant in Edo state. It's a project the new governor of Edo state Godwin Obaseki partnered with Wacot to bring to fruition. The third one, NOVARE MALL. Ha haba! That the presidency is counting this as one of its achievements!! Haba!! Actually, the sad story about mall construction in Nigeria is that ever since the government came to power there has been a ridiculous slowdown in mall construction and the worst part is the malls are now all suffering terrible occupancy rates. Go and check out Novare Lagos and it has less than 25% occupancy rate because the current government damaged the exchange rate as well as destroyed the purchasing power of Nigerians. I don't know much about the syringe factory, so I'll leave it alone. The fifth you mentioned is the Olam Hatchery in Kaduna. El Rufai specifically mentioned how he personally spoke with Olam in Singapore to make it happen. He provided them with the land and all the support they required. The sixth, the Ford Assembly plant by Coscharis. This was a direct result of the previous government's auto policy. All the other plants that were all beginning to come on stream(21 in total) have all gone into hiding. Construction of this plant was even stalled when Buhari started his terrible forex restriction policy. The last two on the list, Petrolex Tank farm and the cereal factory, I know too little about , so I wouldn't comment. My point is simple. There is nothing this Buhari government has done in the almost 3 years since it came on board, so there is nothing to list. So you just borrow projects others have put in all the work and then you try to take credit. This list is an indictment in itself. When Osibanjo was in charge briefly, we saw improvements. Everything stopped the moment Buhari came back!! I can't wait for 2019. 1 Like |

4 things N250 billion would do. -It would repair 2500 km of bad roads @ 100 million Naira per km. That's would effectively make all trunk A federal roads in the country motorable. -It would build 5 world class state of the art specialist hospitals @ a whooping N50 billion per unit for Kidney, Heart, Cancer, Trauma and Infectious diseases. These would effectively end medical tourism in Nigeria. In fact Africa would come here to get treated. -It would rebuild 1000 police stations across the country to world class standards @ N250 million per station. -It would buy 25,000 tractors @N10 million per tractor. That is about 700 tractors per state. This would lead to a radical food revolution that would crash the price of food stuff as well as make Nigeria a net exporter of food. But you know what, all this N250 billion is nowhere to be found only on the lips of the finance minister. 28 Likes 2 Shares |

That's the thing I wonder about The South East. They are always waiting on the FG to do things for them. Igbos don't know the extraordinary power they possess to cause rapid development in the South East. The amount of Diaspora capital that can be mustered for the development of the South East is in tens of billions of dollars. How Ndigbo can't come together and muster that capital is still a mystery to me. Let me give an example. The South East is so small. A rail line running through Enugu-Awka-Onitsha-Nnewi-Owerri-Aba-PH is just about 200km. A 300km/h high speed rail would mean a 40 minute ride between Enugu and PH. Onitsha to PH- 20mins. At building costs of $25million per km, it would take approx $5 billion to construct world class 1st world rail system. For standard gauge @ 160km per hr, we would be looking @just $1.5billion max. To raise this money is so easy. Assign 200,000 plots of land along this rail route for the development of new world class mini cities. Sell these lands @ $15,000 average each to Ndigbo in diaspora and instantly you've raised $3 billion. But we are here waiting on some Hausa or Yoruba man to come and build it when they haven't even built for themselves. 2 Likes 1 Share |
