2. I don't care about G6 story of 1987.
3. Bragging about 80 km Umkhonto missile that you do NOT have....one single prototype built for testing, lack of funds since 2013. 1. Who says thats the target? 2. You dont care about it because IT DESTROYS YOUR ARGUMENT 3. Citation needed |

agaugust: Sure tells you Nigeria too is buying new air defence stuff, not only you.
DENEL land based is NOT in service with SANDF, even the Mokopa you made, you could not buy one piece.
Weapons not in service are not recognized on this forum, we deal with reality not dreams, anybody can dream, and projects/plans can be cancelled like SAAF AM400 aircraft.
When your army inducts land based Umkhonto, come back talk to us. 1. It does not say what... and its from 2012 2. G6 was not in service when it was deployed to battle. 3. Rich coming from the man who is constantly inventing new things for the Nigerian arsenal. If Denel has it, the SANDF has acess to it - this is fact |

Umkhonto land based is NOT in service with SANDF....prove to us it has been ordered and entered service.
May I also start quoting Akash SAM for Nigeria because we are on the line to buy it?
http://twocircles.net/2012may17/india_help_boost_nigerias_air_defences.html#.ViPbIX6rTIU G6 was not in service with the SADF in 1987 Yet it was used in battle. If Denel has it, and SANDF needs it... they get it. No you may not, and furthermore, that article does not say anything about the Akash. |

agaugust: GDF-002 is 1980, and GDF-005 is 1985 technology as I said before, both are old.
"In 1980, The Oerlikon 35 mm GDF-002 automatic anti-aircraft gun is used primarily as an anti-aircraft weapon but can also be applied against ground targets. In May 1985, the GDF-005 was introduced. This is an overall improvement of the GDF-001/2/3 and the earlier models can be modified to the GDF-005 standard by the use of combat improvement kits supplied by Oerlikon Contraves. "

We don't know the GDF variant that Nigeria has, we just saw the photo for the first time on this planet shown to the public by Nigerian army. Any GDF can be upgraded to 005 or 007 variant as stated in the above source, Nigeria's variant is not known. The year we even bought the guns are not known.
The Chinese version Type 90 guns of Nigeria are year 2000 technology with data-link, so how does it come with a 1960s radar? Fool art thou !
Fact is that with the Type 90 purchased likely around year 2007 Nigerian army has guns and radars that will match the GDF-005 and Skyshield radars, so you have upgrades to modernize, but we bought brand new modern equipment as our Type 90.
Type 90 has a Chinese radar different from the Skyguard or Skyshield.
Nigerian army Type 90 computerized anti-aircraft systems use AF902 radars and are actually more modern and superior to SANDF current GDF-005 and Skyshield radars.
"The AF902 is a fire control system and search/tracking radar designed and manufactured in China by the Company NORINCO. The system is used with the Type 90 35mm anti-aircraft twin-gun or the SHORAD TY-90 or PL-9C missiles.
The AF902 has two tracking systems, target searching radar and an electro-optical passive tracking director. Computerized 3D target imaging is also used.
The electro-optical tracking system uses high-resolution optical/infrared TV for passive tracking in clear weather. The advantage of continuing tracking without emitting radar signals increases its survivability when facing enemy anti-radiation missiles (ARMs).
The AF902 fire control system and radar integrates advanced X-band search radar, C-band search/tracking radar and Ka-band tracking radar with TV/IR tracking system, IFF and various latest electro-optical technologies, thus guarantees superior multi-target engagement capability, accurate and longer range tracking capability against ultra-low level and small-RCS target, short system reaction time, good all-weather engagement capability, ECCM capability and LPI characteristic, quick system positioning and deployment capability, and excellent reliability as well.
AF902 fire control system can also exchange local air picture with superior operational command system through data link and combat cooperatively with other friendly air defence systems.
The X-Band search radar has a maximum detection range of 22 km for fighter aircraft and 9 km for cruise missile. The C-Band search and tracking radar ad maximum detection range of 32 km for fighter aircraft and 13 km for cruise missile, and tracking range of 32 km for fighter aircraft and 13 km for cruise missile. Your SANDF air defence is even worse than that of Tanzania 1. Starstreak ceiling is up to 5km 2. SA-7 is obsolete 1972 equipment Augustus, you can keep talking about range alone as though that is what defines what is good or what is not. Fact is, Starstreak is in a different league to the SA-7. overhypedsteve: we could have been able to Lord over the francophone west African states if we were stronger economically. Cuba and some Caribbean American states that tried to play to the tune of the Soviet Union saw what it felt like to live in the shadow of a dominant global economic super power. Nigeria cannot be considered a power economically even in west Africa because we cannot as at yet boast of a wide reaching economic interest that cover the whole of west Africa. we are rich from an African point of view because most of the states around us are crumbling in debts but still yet. Those poor states are not completely loyal to us. Yes we can dominate francophone west Africa if we had a wide reaching economic / political dominance in the region. This small states just make their own decision because they believe that no counter action from Nigeria would scratch them economically or politically. I really wish you ve read of how much we fought against AFRICOM and how unsuccessful it was because of our fading dominance. The problem with Nigerians is that you use terms like "dominance" or "controll" And then you wonder why your neighbors dont play ball? If I had to chose between being "dominated" by Nigeria or US/France I know exactly who I would choose. Meanwhile - SADAC is run as a collective, we dont use words like "dominance" we use words like "partner"... hence why South Africa/Botswana/Namibia are practically indistinguishable and nations like Zambia and Angola are slowly drifting into the fold. This is also why SADAC is growing in power - soon Tanzania will complete their transition into the grouping as well. And then we will be unstoppable. We are a collective, you are a collection of competing egos

Do you think SA would have been able to do anything other than make noise if Botswana had really wanted an AFRICOM base on its soil?,SADC is different from ECOWAS,France practically rules at least 9 of the ECOWAS states; even PMB admitted it on international media. Out of the 9 francophone 'neo-colonies' in west africa, only 4 can be said to be "moderately independent".Nigeria maintains control in ECOWAS due to its provision of electricity to all its neighbours, financial aid to ECOWAS countries, domination of trade and investment in the region, strong military presence and diplomatic clout. However,we cannot authoritatively dictate to ECOWAS governments because of the staggering degree of french neo-colonial influence,it could lead to loss of regional support. Even the US cannot fight 9 of its neighbours simultaneously. By your own admission it is not Nigeria who controls ECOWAS... but France |

iblawi: Stop claiming what you are not.
Let me remind you of a old post on this same thread 2584.
For example, back in 2009, the South African Air Force stopped automatically releasing data on how many hours combat pilots flew for training. When the numbers were finally obtained, it was discovered that in 2008, fighter pilots were in the air for 325 hours (less than two hours a month per pilot). In contrast, pilots on VIP flights (carrying politicians and government officials) were up there 1,932 hours. There are about fifty transports and 80 helicopters in the air force at the time, and that number has continued to shrink.

agaugust: Nigerian systems details are not fully known, we bought Type 90 anti-aircraft guns circa year 2005, that's a modern weapon, so your Skyshield is NOT better.
Also, we have 40mm Bofors anti-aircraft with superior range more than 3 times that your GDF series.
Nigeria has Bofors with 12 km range, your South African GDF range is 4 km only
The series of Nigerian GDF is not known, they could be 005 series.
Nobody has numbers of Nigerian anti-aircraft guns, it's classified information.
We have more types of AAA guns than you, SANDF has only GDF, but Nigerian army has GDF, Bofors, Shilka, and Type 90.
FYI, SANDF GDF guns and Skyguard are a failure, your guns kïll yöur own SANDF soldiers instead of killing enemy aircraft.
You have a useless malfunctioning air defense system in SANDF, Nigerian Alpha jets will räpe your army to death . 1. Nope, your man beeguggug says its GDF-02... is he wrong? 4. We know the numbers, you have only got 16 GDF-20 5. Yes, and we have more AAA guns than you (148 in total) and they are more advanced. Uhmkonto - latest generation of SAM missile systems So, conclusion: SANDF missile defence - state of the art Nigerian missile defence - obsolete 1960's and 1970's junk .

agaugust: As a military analyst, I confidently tell you that nobody in the public has details of Nigerian GDF whether 002 or 005 versions, their total numbers are also classified so nobody knows how many units we have.
Wanna bring up missiles? We are talking guns. No need to repeat Roland SAM, Blowpipe SAM, SA-7 SAM missiles of Nigeria. South African Starstreak is a joke and Umkhobto army version is still under development. Nothing in SANDF can match NA Rolands.
Nigerian systems details are not fully known, we bought Type 90 anti-aircraft guns circa year 2005, that's a modern weapon, so your Skyshield is NOT better.
You have a useless malfunctioning air defense system in SANDF, Nigerian Alpha jets will räpe your army to death . hahahahahahah This comment is comedy gold! I just worked a 64 hour work week, so I am going to sleep. But when I wake up this evening I am going to fvcking humiliate you.
