That Stella pomade along side kernel and coconut pomade where common features in most homes then. The bottle does not even break when it falls on a concrete surface.Amongst all those currencies 20kobo was my favorite,it was so beautiful and that was my pocket money in primary school.I will buy Agidi jollof, ojukwu finger, kuli kuli, moi moi and ice cream with just 20 kobo.one thing I could never buy then was Gala,as at 1990 it was sold for 1 Naira.Do you know what it means to have 1 Naira then?memories of the good old days.

CultureRe: Top 10 Misconceptions About The Yoruba Tribe by paulavon: 10:18pm On Feb 05, 2015
thecommunist:
dey there they deceive yourself, you know as well as i know that yoruba people are the most intelligent, the number of nobel laureates and professors in the yoruba tribe can attest to that
and your people keep saying yoruba are cowards and timid, why? because we refuse to fight your battles for you. what foolish man will fight another's battle? when we are not jesus christ the messiah!
and about yoruba peeps not respecting people outside their tribe,well...respect is reciprocal, why should a yoruba guy prostrate to greet an elderly person from a tribe he knows fully well that their younglings wont reciprocate to yoruba elders? and to make matter worse, these youglings are never corrected because "it is not in their culture"
How many nobel laureates do the Yorubas have?Number of professors is not an indicator of intelligence,it might be easier to become a professor in the west than other regions.if you match a first class graduate from the west and that of the south-south that is when you know real intelligence.

Being a coward has nothing to do with fight, nobody is asking the yorubas to fight for them. A typical yoruba from Lagos or Ibadan, when he travels to a place like warri or port-harcourt,you see him being so uncomfortable, always suspecting everyone and looking above his shoulders. He only feel safe when he is around fellow yorubas.

Respect does not have to be selective,if you have it in you,it should flow.

Another misconception is that they are accomodating, that is not true.most landlords in lagos do not rent houses to non-yorubas.My friend and I had the same experience. Also Most of the people don't want to gist with you, they are even angry with you for not been able to speak their language. They assume everyone should be able to speak it.
CultureRe: Top 10 Misconceptions About The Yoruba Tribe by paulavon:
It is a misconception that the Yorubas are the most intelligent in the country, there are more intelligent people in Edo and Delta.

There is no denying the fact that most yorubas are cowards and very timid. They do not feel safe outside south-west.

It is a misconception also that they are very respectful, they mainly show respect to their folks and people they know. You cannot see a yoruba person lieing down to greet an elder from another tribe.

It is quite sad that Linda Ikeji blog is carry such a news,That name has been changed more than 10 years ago,I wonder why it is making news now.people should be careful how they criticise pastors or men of God they know nothing about. Osu as he is popularly called is an household name in warri,a true man of God with a lot of followers.Though I am not a member of his church, But I feel the need to inform.

Jokes EtcRe: Facts About Itsekiri People Of Delta State A Must Read!! by paulavon: 10:08pm On Dec 29, 2014
Itsekiri's are the most tribalist people in Nigeria, they only like themselves and do not see reasons to help others.
They are very domineering and proud. If a non native marries an Itsekiri woman, her family will dominate the home, the husband's tribe will be relegated. The wife's people will give the children itsekiri names and brainwash them to like her people.

Their only good side is their cooking. When you attend a proper itsekiri party, you are sure to enjoy a blend of different dishes ranging from Banga rice, coconut rice, starch nd ogwo soap or banga soup, fried pig nd kpokpo Garri, etc

Kappa green was the only hostel that didn't get robbed all through my stay in Uniben from 2005 - 2010.
The hostel was not robbed because they have some strong me there. From 2004 to 2008 there were not much robbery incident,It was only dat short Ninja guy nd his tall accomplice that were operating.Maybe there was robbery 2009 upwards.
Uniben is not a bad school as some will look at It,inside the campus is one of the safest in the country. The school hostels and BDPA are safe.
EducationRe: The Notorious Ekosodin Village Uniben by paulavon: 6:09am On Dec 25, 2014
Ekosodin is a great place,I spent 5 years of my time in Uniben from 2004-2008 there. I lived a peaceful life without encountering a problems. Most people have issues because of d kind of hostel they live or the location.Back then Hostels like Colon,United,Newton, capper green and lots more are bad nd should be avoided. I did not live beyond Edo street all through my time there.Another issue is the way u dress nd show off. Most people without d right orientation walk around d Ekosodin as if they own d town. Ekosodin belongs to d Ayes,it is their spiritual home. They have people monitoring everybody entering and living. For you to live as a guy man there u must belong if not you will encounter problems. Most of the guys u see carrying fine babes around nd looking fly are members. If u want to carry babes peacefully just do it codedly not posing with her along d street. As at then one of their members told me they were up to 6,000 in that community,I was like wow. I felt like I was the only jew left. Uniben is filled with very young people now, there won't be much cult activities anymore. The issue they had with police after d kidnap of Ine's oil wife really brough cultist activities low.

Igodo remains my best nollywood movie till date. I cannot forget the most touching and memorable moment when Sam Dede went into the cave to sacrifice himself for Nobert young to fulfil the mission.I still question why Nobert young will be d last man standing and not sam dede who was the best.

I also cannot forget one of Nollywood finest movies RITUALS.such a movie cannot exist again. My memorable moment was when Prince james uche was cooked in a pot by a native doctor to fortify him,the native doctor decided to test his work with a gun shot nd behold he did not live to tell the story.

Please anybody here has a site where I can download Igodo,I last watched dat movie 1999,I need to enjoy it again.

solomonslones:
Lets assume this is the official amount, I wasn't even told about unauthorized & illegal parking, I was just told 20k for the offense.

Isn't that too high for such an offense? whooping 23k, in a state that Is filled with civil servants receiving 18k as minimum wage?

Was the agency setup to generate revenue?

Is this rate commensurate with global prices?

how then do you check extortion, officials are setting folks up, turning a blind eye to ur actions only to pounce on you, knowing fully well that you wouldn't want to pay the "high official amount" (which is yet to be ascertained)
The problem is that the agency was set up to fund itself, workers salaries are paid from what they generate.Whenever they tow your car just know the minimum you will pay is 10k.most of workers are just been overzealous because of the day to day personal money they make. But the agency has laid off a lot of them that are found to be corrupt. The situation is a bit better now.
Car TalkRe: Oppression & Extortion By Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA) by paulavon: 1:45pm On Nov 06, 2014
The EDSMA AKA oshiomhole police has become a terror to vehicle users in Benin city. I have been a victim twice. The first incident was when i first moved to Benin,i parked in front of Ogida market to buy some food stuffs, before i came back my car was gone,i felt like my eyes was deceiving me,i knew i parked my car there and i locked it very well. I later asked some people around and they told me it was oshiomhole police that towed it,i had to go to their office and i saw it there. They gave me a bill of 23k,for illegal parking and unauthorized parking 10k each and 3k for towing. I had to beg and beg, last last i paid 10k before i left.
The second incident was still case of unauthorized parking, there was no notice of no parking there,i saw other cars parked on the right side and there was no more space so i had to park on the left and i never knew they don't park there, before i came out the boys where standing by my car. I pleaded with them but they refused, they told me to settle them with 3k but i gave them 2k i had with me but they refused, they called the towing van to tow my car.
When i got to their office i had to pay 10k. I had to get money from ATM. I have really suffered in their hands. I hate them with passion,i insult them whenever they come closed to me.I almost killed one when he was standing in front of my car. police are far better than them.

This is a great news for me,I am happy that one of my departmental lecturers could rise to such position. I remembered when I went to meet him in 2010 to sign a postgraduate form for me as my referee,he recognized that I was a Bini and spoke our language to me but I told him I do not understand the language and he felt disappointed in me.he later advised me that it was not too late that I should make all efforts to learn. He really inspired me to learn and today I can understand my language to some extent now.
I want to wish him God's wisdom and protection during his reign as the VC of the great Uniben.
Science/TechnologyRe: 7 Outdated Technologies That Had Great Impact On The Lives Of Nigerian's by paulavon: 4:41pm On Sep 05, 2014
I remember back then in warri when we used to watch movies with locally made projector. They will construct the projector with plastic casing, camera lens and other stuffs. We will buy chinese movies in those photographer films and the projector will show it on a white cloth.it was usually watched at night. Am not sure if this new generation can design such things.
I also remember during USA 1994 world cup when there was no light and generator was not available then,we had to use big car batteries to generate power to watch the match on TV.
I cannot forget during Christmas period when we had to produce different kinds of knockouts,my best was the one you put carbide in bottle cork with a little water, then put dried plantain leaves in a tin with a hole at the top.you place the tin on top of the carbide and put fire on a long stick and put it on top of the tin,it is explode lifting the tin up.
Life was more fun then.

SportsRe: Mikel Winning AFOTY Award Will Be An Insult To African Football by paulavon: 8:41am On Jan 03, 2014
heykims: It is January and very soon , the African footballer of the year 2013 will be named in Lagos Nigeria precisely on the 9th of January. The player to be crowned with this feat should however be very much evaluated and deemed fit to earn this prestigious honour because his personality on the field of play either in the national team or club will go a long way in speaking for African football.

CAF released the final 10-man shortlist of the contenders of this prestigious award last year and interestingly, four Nigerian players made the list. Many Nigerians and even Africans have however tipped John Obi Mikel as the possible winner evident from the fact that he won the Nations cup last year, Europa cup in Europe, participated in d Confederations cup and so on.

MY VIEW
As a Nigerian and a proud African, I see it as not just underscoring but extremely insulting to African football if a player like Mikel wins the award. How can a mere bench warmer in Europe be crowned the African footballer of the year just by virtue of the fact that his national team wins a title or his club wins the European league?

A deserving footballer of the hear should be such that is very resourceful both at home and in clubs. A reigning footballer of the year should at least even make the top three best player in his club even if he doesn't get a spot in the FIFA ranking.

Mikel Obi surely can't make the best ten in Chelsea's team despite being a senior player. I'm of the view that its better not to name anyone the footballer of the year than titling a bench warmer in Europe, what a mock, an insult I can't tolerate as an African.

Nigerians should be please stop being sentimental, selfish and self centred and canvass for a better representative for African football.

Left to me, if at all a Nigerian merits the award, it is Vincent Enyeama, the Nigeria's assistant skipper at goal but Cote d'Ivoire's Yaya Toure surely represents Africa better.

What's your view?
It is sad how people like you use your hate for Chelsea to affect a player like Mikel,It is sad how Nigerians will want to pull down their own.when last has a Nigerian come closed to winning the award?
When Diouf won the award over Okocha how spectacular was he then?
Most of these players that won it recently how spectacular were they?
What has Ivory Coast won all these years that made Drogba and Yaya toure to win the award?
I wonder what is so special about yaya toure, this was a player who was benched at Barcelona by Busquet, before he was sold out.Mikel has always won the midfield from him whenever the meet.
Most of you who feel Mikel is not good enough, ask yourself how come he has played under 8 managers in Chelsea and all of them keep using him?
None of them loaned him or sold him, please stop the hate.

PoliticsRe: What Has Uduaghan Achieved In The Past 5 Years? by paulavon: 10:06am On Dec 29, 2012
Gov Uduaghan is the worst governor in Nigeria,i cannot think of anyone as stupid and wicked as him,he refused to do anything for the state.Delta state is about the only state you don't see any project going on.The government has no meaningful investment to create jobs in the state. There is no single industry you can think of,even as small as plastic or cement factory.

The state is rich in oil but only those that have the opportunity to get into the oil industry are the ones enjoying, majority of people are suffering.
There is a lot of lawlessness in the state, everyone does anything he likes, the worst he did was the banning of Okada in warri. That has brought a lot of hardship and suffering to the people,i have heard him said he provided buses to cushion the effect but he fails to understand that warri is not like other cities, buses do not fly a lot of the streets, most of the roads are not tied and are not linked.

Agberos are every junction now collecting money from bus drivers making the bus drivers to hike their fare.why can't he stop the activities of Agbero just like Oshiomhole did in Benin?
i wonder why he fails to copy from fellow governors like Ameachi,Akpabio,Oshiomhole,Fashola, etc

The man is just annoying
