Politics › Lagos Begins Rehabilitation Of Ladipo Market Roads by PaulJohn1(op): 6:51pm On Mar 13, 2013
Chairman Lagos State Public Works Corporation, Mr. Gbenga Akintola

By Gboyega Akinsanmi

The Lagos State Government Tuesday commenced the rehabilitation of all road networks in and around West Africa's biggest auto-spare parts market, Ladipo, as part of the agreement reached on Monday.

Chairman of the Lagos State Public Works Corporation, Mr. Gbenga Akintola, disclosed the development in a statement, noting that all the major roads on the axis would be properly repaired.

He said in furtherance of the state government’s quest for a more conducive environment at the market, men of the LSPWC “have commenced extensive maintenance work on major roads around the market.”

Speaking on the road rehabilitation project, Akintola explained that the corporation, on the instruction of Governor Babatunde Fashola, deployed its men “to commence work on Ladipo Street and Alhaji Akinwunmi Street last Friday.

“The work being carried out on these two roads shall be comprehensive and extensive as it involves drainage system and base preparation works which are already on-going, while it is anticipated that other adjourning streets will also receive attention later.

“Upon completion, these major roads are expected to complement commercial activities in that axis by aiding free movement of people, goods and vehicles," the chairman explained.

Meanwhile, Akintola gave insight into other activities of the corporation, which he said, would between March 11 and 16 carry out road maintenance activities on 45 roads in 16 local government areas of the state.

He listed the roads scheduled for repair “to include Mushin-Itire Road, Surulere and Opebi Road, Salvation-Uturu axis, Ikeja. This is to enable smooth take-off of repair work on these roads as a result of high volume of vehicular movement experienced during the day.

“The work schedule indicates extensive progress on five drainage systems currently undergoing construction in four Local Government Councils in the state. The drainage facilities under construction include Love of Fatherland/Crystal Avenue Oba Ogunji Road (Agege LGA) Sapara Williams/Idowu Martins Victoria Island (Eti-Osa LGA) Randle Road (Apapa LGA) and Akinsulere/Odogbolu/Iyarere Streets in Surulere local government area.

“Roads to be maintained in Ikeja Local Government Area include Alade Avenue, Balogun Joseph/Olayinka Street Opebi, Olaribiro Street, Otunba Jobifele Way and Hakeem Balogun Street.

Others are Edun Alaran Ifako-Ijaiye, Onabu Road Imota Ikorodu, Marine Road Apapa, Agidi Street Alapere, Ketu, Odukoya Crescent, Akowonjo and King George V Road, Lagos Island,” he said.

Billyonaire: @OP, in elementary physics, we were thought about expansion and contraction of metals, so in essence, the joints on the bridge are created to take care of the contraction and expansion, nothing scary about it. Its a giant bridge for christ's sake so the expansion and contraction should be noticeable. I think you are just a little ignorant of theories of expansivity and latent energy.
Not so true
Politics › Re: Third Mainland Bridge Is Vibrating by PaulJohn1: 9:08am On Mar 13, 2013
re read my post,i said when the expansion metal cools they contract making the Irons seperate in the afternoon,it will return to Normality
My emphasis is on noticing the expansion and contraction with your eye. It's not right. The op said he would have taken the video but wasn't courageous enough. An expansion you can see clearly with your eye and to think of taking it video is not normal.
It's difficult to see metal expansion not talk of a bridge like third mainland bridge that has enough components in it
Politics › Re: Third Mainland Bridge Is Vibrating by PaulJohn1: 8:52am On Mar 13, 2013
I know a bit of Engineering,it is normal because metal contract on cooling and Expand on heating,so if you go back there in the afternoon you would think it a miracle but its pure Science
Not to the extent of noticing it with your eye, moreso it not yet that hot. You can still look directly to the sun without a shade. I don't expect any expansion not until like 11am in a place like Nigeria
Politics › Re: Third Mainland Bridge Is Vibrating by PaulJohn1: 8:49am On Mar 13, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: If it is called an expansion joint, then why should it be strange if you noticed vibration from an expanding joint?
It's still morning bro, the sun intensity is not yet high to make any structural member extend. If at all a structure will expand, it won't be vibrating. And you can't notice any increment in length if structures will extent, you'll need a measuring equipment to detect any increment.

Jarus: I tire o

These people make it seem like that every job in the industry should be thrown in their laps despite all what they've done for them - most of the local contractors(from those that supply Nigerian semi-skilled manpower to those that evacuate wastes) are from host communities, the CLO's, scholarships for their students etc. Maybe they want their illiterate indigenes to be ED in all oil companies before they are satisfied.
I tire for these people undecided
Yorubas are tribalist, they're our problem, they dominated..., they claim to be saint... huh They hate us...
Still, they keep flocking that same yoruba region to get a meaningful education and better life angry

Why can't they be mute and retaliate same thing they feel yorubas are doing unjustified?!
Will these people keep shut for once? angry angry

Politics › Re: Another APC Application Confirmed By INEC by PaulJohn1: 12:29pm On Mar 11, 2013
All progressives congress obviously has everything to meet up with any prerequisite for registration being laid down by INEC that are way more reasonable and authentic than anything "African People's party" can present. But it's obvious some rules are going to be with-held, if not the PDP wouldn't have wasted it time forming another 'APC' to frustrate the effort of the real 'APC'-All progressives congress.

This late hour that Democracy is just starting to be effective, some evil minded cabals who have been benefiting from the undemocratic system we've been running are desperately interested in terminating it. Wish they're not successful in their plot
Politics › Re: Another APC Application Confirmed By INEC by PaulJohn1: 11:41am On Mar 11, 2013
PointB: All Progress Congress (if I may use it) hasn't won any position/election either. So what's your point?

Anyway, if I must repeat it to you. African Peoples Congress like, All Progressive Congress are both unregistered party. The former has applied for reregistration, while the later is still struggling with logo, while mouthing off. What would you have INEC do, oga?
All progressives congress hasn't been registered and yes the 'APC' can be used by any party. You should know that when everything is set and the parties merging to form the APC have concluded, all positions these merging parties have won automatically belongs to the newly formed APC.
Also, the African people's congress is not qualified to be registered, this party is still the weakest party in Nigeria today, parties that have won at least a local government were de-registered for being too weak, while African people's congress was so strong even without any position presently on ground and was registered.
Isn't that funny?!

Even without using APC as it identity, no new party is qualified to be formed with the recent actions INEC took of parties de-registration, except sets of people who have won a position under an existing party are cropped out to form the party, which is not the case for 'African people's party.
But because it's 'APC' that was chosen, access granted. Lol
Politics › Re: Another APC Application Confirmed By INEC by PaulJohn1: 11:18am On Mar 11, 2013
PointB: What kind of crap is this. So the INEC should refuse to consider a party which has sent it's applications, and choose rather to wait for people who are still fighting over logos and colors? Why do some of you folks have a warped sense of justice? Why is it only right when it favours you?

Guy,
Let me put it this way All Progressive Congress has not applied for registration, but African Peoples Congress has. Please advice INEC.
Wasn't it of recent parties were de-registered and others forced to merge for being too weak. Identify any position the Africas people's congress has won to be so strong enough even than parties that won a ward and were de-registered to have been registered with INEC.

Conspiracy

take dat: Bro, even this trickery and treachery of theirs won't work. The other "Faceless" party is yet to be registered, the threat coming from the opposition is just to put INEC on its toes. Apart from PDP members getting jittery, those other folks who are against the merger are blinded and motivated by clannish sentiments/resentment and animosity, they are not bothered if we truly run a true democracy or not. To them PDP's do or die and wuruwuru politics is fair!
They won't accept that fact, they've truely been blinded
Politics › Re: ACN & CPC Accuse PDP of floating Another APC by PaulJohn1: 9:32am On Mar 11, 2013
PointB: I disagree.

Politics is a strategy game. Preventing the juncture of your enemy is one of the strategies of the game. PDP has every right to legally frustrate the registration of APC, that is if they are even responsible for this. Next time when other parties contemplate a merger, they should understand the importance of getting all agreement and paper work done before going public.

But with so many loquacious characters and Lai(s) in the merging parties, such shoddy job is not unexpected. I expected them to waste more time whining and crying PDP instead of them to go back to the drawing board and do things the right way.

Bunch of desperate ignorant people. grin grin cheesy cheesy
^^
Haha, 'strategy' indeed.
I'm sure you'd have crucified the opposition had it been they've used this same 'strategy' cheesy you're being sentimental.
Politics › Re: ACN & CPC Accuse PDP of floating Another APC by PaulJohn1: 9:08am On Mar 11, 2013
I think it's the weaker party that should be so desperate in using any trick available to challenge the bigger party. It seems it's the other way round, shameless PDP must so scared to have gone this far if true. While some Laptop crew members wanted us to believe PDP is at ease with the emergence of the merger cheesy
It's obvious PDP has only survived due to poor democracy being practiced in Nigeria before now. All in all, I wish the right person is eleccted irrespective of the party he or she is with.

Career › Re: How Do I Get A Lecturing Job by PaulJohn1:
CrazyMan: Wrong...not all.

Most lecturers get their PhD years after they began teaching...they applied with Bsc/Msc, and later went for their PhD after getting the job.

So, I would suggest that you do the same (apply with your Msc), if you get the job, you can always go for your PhD in the same institution.

Good luck.
But you have a better chance with PhD when applicants aren't few.

CFCfan: True. Nairaland is already the most visited website in Africa; surely Seun can use this to promote threads from other African nationals to the frontpage.
My 2 kobo.
Expected of a site meant for Africa's most populous nation.
Wider coverage will make the site compete with globally recognized sites.
Politics › Re: Nairaland On 'Keeping It Real With Adeola' And Punch by PaulJohn1:
CFCfan: Yeah, u are right. CNN and MSNBC do the same thing too; though they've never sampled opinion on Nairaland grin
They mostly get Facebook or twitter comments.
I believe Nairaland can also catch up with the likes of FB and twitter in it own unique way of debating and analyzing topics and will be quoted on well recognized international broadcasters. But Nairaland management are not really interested in promoting topics, news that involves other countries. More than 95% of the topics you see on the front page are nigeria related topics. Hence, making the forum less interesting to outsiders, except for topics relating to every human irrespective of the nationality.

If the management can at least promote top headlines from countries in Africa to the front page, Nairaland would be the first thing being referred to and quoted on matters concerning Africa on any international TV. Already, the forum has members from other countries in Africa; Cameron, Ghana, SA, Somalia, Sudan, Egypt,... They'll keep threads concerning their countries going if they see it on the most relevant page of the forum.

PGD helps to deviate into education proper in the course you've studied. Even with your Ph.D, you have to get your PGD to lecture in institutions or to teach in high school
PGD as stepping stone to attain M.sc for those with a CGPA below 3.00 is incorrect.

A pal of mine graduated with a CGPA below 3.00 and presently he's almost done with his M.sc program in Moscow, plus he's starting his Ph.D this year without ever knowing anything as PGD.

Another instance is of a close young lady that graduated with a 3rd class, lost hope just like the OP and went for PGD in order to deviate from being just a graduate of Macro Biology to being an educationist in Macro biology which qualifies her to lecture in that field. Luckily for her she was admitted for M.sc even in a Nigerian university without tendering her PGD certificate.

The first guy of a CGPA bellow 3.0 did his M.sc without any PGD.
The other lady with a 3rd class was admitted for her M.sc program even in a Nigerian University. Did her PGD not for M.sc but to become an educationist in that field.

...And as far as I can tell, ND and NCE aren't among the requirements needed for the program.
There are guys who went for PGD with their HND and even OND certificate. Exceptional cases are those who added education to their main course in the university, because PGD curriculum has been included while in uni, but are limited to lecturing or teaching and not as a professional of their course but educationist.
