On a serious and possibly legal note....WHAT IS THEIR CRIME? The biggest offense, they tortured and killed chickens, chickens ladies and gentlemen. Where did you read that they physically killed anyone, NO WHERE. We Africans can be so gullible. Where in the legal statue is it mentioned that they broke the law and you have some people on this forum calling for their heads. In court NO CASE. Whats the next step lynching people for their thoughts. By the different praises I read and the way we brag about our allegiance with the most high......... WT hell are you worried about who puts you name on a damn chicken, like really folks

Career / Re: Msc. Business Admin. Or Msc. Statistics. Advice Needed by PBundles(m): 6:54pm On Dec 01, 2015
Here is my two cents...............

In most business fields they dont place much value on a Msc in Bus admin. They see it as a cheap MBA. They wont tell you this but its frowned upon.

Statistics on the other hand is highly recruited and if you want to add icing to the cake due Quant analysis and have all big firms throwing offers at you. Especially now that banks and firms need software that run a.o. with algorithms to run most programs. Artificial intelligence is the way forward and statisticians will play a huge role. What about Insurance companies (insurance actuary)

Also since this seems to be your field, you will be a fish in the water.

Religion is a funny thing and twisted at times. On one hand the claim is that the God they serve (be it Muslim or Christian) is all powerful, can do all. Ok, so he cant overcome Birth Control. I would think if HE wants you to have 100 kids he could, so why not use it and if HE decides, he can use his powers to fulfill it. Fickle. Im not an atheist by the way.

I wish we could stop using emotions and READ CAREFULLY what someone posts. When I read responses like this and I dont mean it rudely its either people are not educated and cant read or havent read it at all.

1 @ Titugirl, if you are born and rasied there and your parents own property, uhm doesnt that make the person a RESIDENT.
2 @ ewizard1 if you have a business there and pay taxes doesnt that make you a RESIDENT.

Though I wont claim to have read the entire proposal, I think what they are trying to curtail are those that shop for cheap schooling within state universities, which as I mentioned before are cheap for certain reasons. I personaly (Im not from Rivers) see nothing wrong with it if its specific to RESIDENTS

To make it ONLY for indigenes will be very hard since from a social legal standpoint how do you do that? What if my mom is from Rivers and my dad from Lagos. Also there are those that migrate to other states settle learn the language and even change their name, they may seem like it but are not indigenes. So you see the complexity.

I think they are referring to residents since you can set predeterminded guidelines to establish residency.

I acyually think its a great idea as you capture so many things by it.

If you dont pay taxes your kids cant study there for cheap
If you dont contriubute to the states economic well being ( in any form) why reap the benefits , if you want to, pay extra
It will make states that perform well to attract residents and as such business

In the larger scheme of it, if implemented well is a great idea actually

ewizard1:

And why did you lay emphasis that RESIDENTS pay taxes and that's why their children should pay lesser amount?

If I really need to explain this, then there is no need to discuss this any further.

Those opposing this do realize that this is the case in some western countries? Ask anyone who has lived/schooled in the US. State schools are cheaper for state residents. The idea behind it is that residents pay taxes and will/ have assisted in the up keep and wil likely do so when they have graduated. Usually one can get residence after staying for sometime any paying taxes etc. If you dont agree go to a federal school.

Why do we like to protest and use terms like marginalization/tribalism as if its in vogue. Come on lets use the grey matter God gave us.

Titugirl:

so what about those of us that were born and raised here in Rivers state and whose parents own properties and businesses here?

So you mean students who's parents are not indigenes but work, live and have business there don't pay tax?

Of course they do, my apologies if I have misunderstood you.

Oh No, that post has nothing to do with the fine. It's a response to a poster claiming and asking why MTN Sim cards were sold at N30,000 some years back.

I'm sure you'd agree to the fact that costing and pricing structure has to do with supplier capital, PEST, competition.

Acidosis:

This is WHY Business Education must be properly enforced on all Nigerian students.

There is something they call PESTEL, & 5 Porter's forces in Business/Marketing. There is something they call Relational Capital, Employee capital and supplier capital in entrepreneurship.

Do you know the cost of fibres, and other telecommunication materials when sim cards were sold for N30,000?

Do you know the weight of political forces and legal issues alongside the associated costs 10 years ago?

Why aren't you CASTIGATING NOKIA for selling you a PKALASA phone at N40,000 some 8years ago?

Why MTN?

When they tell people like you to attend business and entrepreneurship classes, you wouldn't go, but you'd sit back eyeing the CEO position in SHELL & AGIP. These are issues mere common sense should solve without quoting some complex business models and consumer theories.

rman:

Thank you. On this MTN issue, I noticed your posts and mine are always in agreement. Don't mind the ignorant folks with herd mentality...

So far everyone is hating, let me join too. No common sense to analyse issues. And they wonder why they are unemployed or not in leadership positions.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you both are actually wrong. This has little to do with Contextual environment (PEST) analysis, Business/Marketing or Porters 5 forces (Competitive environment analysis), which are the subject matters I lecture on as a PT associate professor at a business school in Amsterdam.

This has more to do with anti-trust laws and regulations which are quite complicated, but in short are there to ensure that the market and especially the consumers have a fair playing field as well competitors. I wont claim to know the details because you cant base on a short summary, but it seems that MTN was not playing fair and I applaud this as it shows that Africa is moving towards a developed business environment.

To be honest other countries do it also, especially South American and other African countries. Its virtually impossible in Europe though there have been incidental cases. But the OP was focusing on Nigeria.

Anyway why am I surprised, in a country where Rotimi Amaechi stood in front of a screening panel and said I NEVER STOLE ANY MONEY, its ok I hear una.

For those saying why doesnt FIFA do anything, ITS NOT THIER DUTY. if you read their age policy its up to the local federations to screen. The only thing they can do is honor petitions which countries send if if they suspect or have issues, but no one every really does that because they dont want to be seen as sore loser, though behind the scenes most EU countries complain this all the time off record.

Celebrities / Re: I Can’t Figure Out Why The Poor Have More Children- Charly Boy by PBundles(m): 5:00pm On Nov 11, 2015
Good question. I dont have an answer but will have one when I figure out why a man that is old enough to be a grandfather, whose dad was distinguished judge would dress like a small boy fooling himself with piercings and stuff and spitting on the adage to age gracefully with decency and respect.

Mchayy:
Charly Boy also known as Area Fada is back with a long epistle on why the poor are making babies in poverty.

Read what he wrote below.

Go ye into the world be fruitful and multiply, oh! yes that’s what the good book says. However certain people take this literally. They see children as a blessing from God and they view it as their duty to fulfill this prophecy by promoting procreation, rejecting all forms of birth control, including natural family planning.

Children are viewed as a reward from God and the more children one has, the more one has been blessed by God but the big question is, does this put food on the table especially in this hard times?!!

I’m still trying to wrap my head around why the poor have more children when they can’t afford to raise them. And why the rich have fewer children when they can afford to have more. The population demography of any society is vital in Nation building and governments around the world have effected policies to control this growth.
A very good example will be China’s one child per family policy, which has now been upgraded to two. It will be commonsensical to say that people breed their kind this means a rich family is most likely to have rich children, and a poor family, poor children. In Nigeria we have a large majority of low income earners who are multiplying the number of children they have. Children they can not afford to take care of. So wouldn’t it make common sense to say that the less one earns, the less children you should have?

This is one of life’s ironies.

People who are rich and can afford to have more children will not yet those that can not afford it do. Low income spouses spend more leisure time together than families of high income earners. It will be typical in our society today, to see a high income family where both couples are gainfully employed, close work late and get home from a hectic day too tired and stressed to indulge in any intimate act but the lower income earner seem to have more leisure time and less distractions to focus on their love plays with their tomato selling wives. Why is this so?

Breeding children has become a recreational sport for the poor, I feel this is an issue that we all collectively as a society need to address. I use to think that it was mostly in the rural areas that this kind of demography is rampant but that’s not the case, the other day I was shocked to find out that a friend’s security guard who earns 30,000.00 naira monthly has two wives and ten children. Hummmmm, How on earth are they going to survive on that, what type of education, feeding, clothing can he provide for them in today’s Nigeria. Don’t they understand that intimacy between spouses is also an occasion to be savored and pleasurably enjoyed and not just for making babies?

We all need to wake up to the harsh effects that this is having. Government needs to have more enlightenment and sensitization programs that will address this issue. There is a need to inform the populace about the harmful effects of having children that one cannot afford to raise properly. The most obvious aftereffects are when you see children hawking in the street in order to fend for their families. This is not an issue for the government to tackle alone, the private sector also has to join in. The first solution will be circulating constant information about family planning: Due to a range of factors including education and location of living, poor women don’t have access to as many family control measures as richer women so richer women have substantially fewer “unintended” pregnancies than poorer women.
For all my brothers and sisters coping with survival I urge you all to think more about family planning, I know God blesses us with children but we must learn to plan our family according to our means. By the way, I have 9 children but thank God my school fees days are over or else e for hardooooo. So my simple summary today is, cultivate your sperm according to your pocket size. A word they say, is good for the wise.

US presidents
(Us presidents are not allowed to manage their accounts but its done via a wealth management corp, this is a known fact. After they leave for a period of years its still managed. Discrepancies when declaring and after tenure must be signed off by the wealth management. I could have listed more but these two actually had negative assets after leaving, though Mr Carter was a rich man from peanut farming)
Jimmy Carter
Dwight Eisenhower

José Alberto "Pepe" Mujica Cordano of Uruguay
he gives 90% of his salary away and rides and old Volkswagen. Look him up he is quite famous

Nelson Mandiba Mandela
Have a read about him during his tenure as president and corruption. When your oppressors sing your praises what more can you say.

Jan Peter Balkenende former ducth PM who is currently teaching and lived in an attached (not detached) duplex when he was PM in the period 2002-2010.

Piet de Jong Dutch Pm from 1967 -1971 former navy commander, lived to be 100, known for being very humble

Thou, he was corrupted to a fault by those who planned in their own benefit. It didn't change his stance on my country. Our military was the main thing and a super power in west africa unlike what we see now. A no nonsense kind of man which made people hate him because they couldn't have their way like they did with the previous administration. I still see him as the best military head of state of my country.
Next in line would have been yaradua(best civilian head of state) but he didn't live long thereby giving the title to Oga Jona. Jonathan is more like abacha but didn't have the heart of a lion. He knows what he wants for the country but he allowed lots of people to influence him unlike Abacha who didn't always bend to the will of every one..... I see him as a mentor

My fellow Nigerians, Africans..........Lets agree to love each other to the end, lets stop this Yoruba, Ibo, Hausa BS. If we dont unite, we will remain divided. I will forever hold my fellow sister/brother dear to my heart after all charity starts at home.

I think you have a point, but this is what is killing us.When Hausa chop, then Yoruba will say its my turn, them Ibo will say haba, how about me, then the Hausa takes over and the circle is round we begin again. It has to end somewhere.

That's the same woman that her poverty stricken and shameless kinsmen came out to protest on behalf of.
Another thing is, you need to see the entire thing from their own point of view.

They are of the mindset that if people from other regions (esp the north) can feed fat on the resource extracted from their soil, then there should be nothing wrong with their own sons and daughters doing the same.

It is not right, but I understand them. It simply means that the sort of government we have here isn't working...and it can never work. A complete overhaul, or a switch back to the six geopolitical regions, prior to independence, is what could save us.
