Thirty four Nigerians were on Wednesday afternoon deported from the United States of America (USA) for "minor offences". The deportees comprise 32 males and two females who insisted that they did not commit major offences in the US before being sent back to Nigeria. They were returned to the country through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, aboard a chartered Omni Air International Boeing 767 aircraft. The aircraft landed on the 18Right of the runway at exactly 14:35pm. Speaking exclusively to SaharaReporters on behalf of the others, Mr. Olusegun Olatunji, who claimed to have resided in the US for 30 years, accused the US government of illegally deporting him from the country. He said the only offence he committed was importing herbs, which the US government claimed was counterfeit, from China into the US. He declared that he was sanctioned with $41,000 for importing the herbs, which he paid, but to his surprise he was still deported alongside others. Olatunji added that most of the deportees committed traffic offences or overstayed in the US, among other minor offences, which should not have ordinarily warranted their deportation. He lamented that the US government claimed some of them were drug couriers. He further expressed sadness that in spite of the fact that some of them challenged their impending deportation and had their cases ongoing, they were still deported like major criminals. “I have been in the US in the past 30 years. Most of us were deported for overstaying visas and some of us have been in the US for years," he said. "Most of us did not commit any felony or major offences; some of us went to jail for minor offences. Even for traffic offence, you are being deported and a few offences. But they now claimed that we were drug dealers, which is not true. “I would have spent 30 years in the US by October 18. I have been in the US without any infraction. The only infraction I have was that I ordered merchandise from China, herbs, and they claimed the herbs were counterfeit. That was my so-called offence and I was ordered to pay $41,000, which I paid to the government. They still confiscated the merchandise after paying the sum; despite this, they still deported me. I have never committed any infraction in the US apart from importing these herbs from China. “Most of us here have cases in different courts in the US, but the government did not allow us to see the resolution of the case. They just took us by force and deported us from the US. This is quite unfortunate.” http://saharareporters.com/2018/06/20/us-deports-34-nigerians-minor-offences |
I won't put it past Iran to beat Portugal. They showed enough quality in the second half to trouble any team. The Iranian guy that nutmeged Pique should do a number on Pepe. |
Nihilstjnr:Well, that was unfortunate inconsistency from the refereeing crew for that game. I agree with you that if Ekong's foul was a penalty, England deserved one or two penalties in their own game. I think the Nigeria v Croatia game is the only one, so far, in this tournament where holding during set-pieces, was punished with PK. |
VAR worked exactly as intended. Its just tough luck for Iran. Even if VAR wasn't applied, the Assistant referee's flag went up, so the ref would still have disallowed the effort. |

CaptJeffry:But it could still get him into trouble. He shouldn’t be intentionally kissing a woman or man, he doesn’t know |

Looks like the Egyptians are heading home... |
Yay!! Come on Senegal |

SmallSimba:You’re spot on. I’ve never seen the logic of a guy assuming responsibility for the greater part of a woman’s cost of living just because she is his girlfriend. |
I’m so happy that Japan won!!!! Well deserved victory |

Colombia to play with 10 men for 86 minutes! Tough luck |
Fastest World Cup red card ever, at 3 mins |
I thank Rohr for all he has done for the Super Eagles, especially qualifying the team for the World Cup. But after the June/July AFCON next year, Siasia should be given the reigns of the team. That way, he will have over 2 years to implement his philosophy on the team before the 2022 World Cup. In the same vein, the next AFCON should be the last major tournament for Mikel Obi, because I seriously doubt whether he will have the legs for World Cup action in four year’s time. He would even be much slower by that time. |
Harry Kane scores his first goal at a major tournament |
kennysville:Torres.. The heaviest player in the tournament who weighs 218 pounds ![]() |
Lucasbalo:I’m a stickler for people following the law, but at times, common sense should be applied to what we do. Yes, the adult parents crossed the border illegally, but yay doesn’t entail that you take their kids away from them. These kids are of the age where they need their parents the most. Besides, crossing the border illegally isn’t really a felony that justifies setting up separate tents for little kids, and keeping their parents in a detention facility. |
If Mikel is to play in a deeper role (close to Ndidi, the DM), then Ndidi should never venture beyond the half-way line, especially against the Argentines. Mikel’s slack marking and pressing would put a lot of pressure on Ndidi and our backline. |
See how the Mexicans are playing without fear, and are very coordinated in attack. ![]() |
I’m now starting to believe some who say the NFF management take a share of Rohr’s salary, because it has been crickets from them. Normally, if a native Nigerian coach had the last run of 4/5 poor results, there would be a lot of noise from the Glass House. |
How about Rohr starting Simmy Nwankwo and Iheanacho upfront? A two-main strike force, with Iwobi playing just behind them, would cause a lot of wahala for the Iceland players. I don’t seriously believe Iceland would park the bus against the Super Eagles; they will play a more open game which would suit the natural pace players of the SE. Moreover, Ebuehi needs to start the next two games. He is a massive upgrade on Shehu. |

Don’t worry, Rohr is only trying to deceive our opponents... He will field our proper formation against Iceland and Argentina |
See Shehu o ![]() |
Ebuehi should have started as the right back. He is faster than Shehu |
