Too bad! ........... The MOD or whoever is in control of the FRONT PAGE needs to stop the newfound kindergarten headlines they give to threads... Words like "...and this happened" , "...the man did this", "...then the actress did this" etc are very annoying. Threads should be headlined in a professional way. |

That's how babcock student graduated as best MSC student in University of Ibadan After they all claim private university student are dullard. They are many more like this, that are not well celebrated due to the sentiment on their schools. Well who cares about sentiment when we are making money. (Quote) (Report) 1 Like (Like) (Share) baum1:With due respect to u and d OP, Dr Shodipe was not, I must emphasise, the best MSC student in UI. Although she performed creditably well, there was a 10 point gap between her and the best graduating MSC student that year. Thus, she was the best in Babcock but not in UI. Tha[/color]t is not to say she's not brilliant, but facts, being very sacred, must be preserved. My first reaction was to ignore the misinformation but I changed my mind because I AV a duty to the academic community. Even though I have some further reservations about the thread, disclosing them may in itself destroy everything in this thread. |
Google63:You finished from OAU, and you said that? Really! Ok!!!!!!!! Cheers |
Quakertellicus1:Well-tempered words. You studied in "another government university". Does it have a name? I expressly mentioned OAU cos I'm forever proud of dt great citadel. You see, OAU is not just another govt university! My grouse is with a 'funny' comment that Covenant is better than OAU! It is laughable. There's, for now, no basis for comparison. My job spec makes it impossible for me not to understand d standard of our uni's. Although no Nigerian Uni deserves any special commendation, there are 3 or 4 Uni's that still churn out good grads. I'm still waiting for that boy's reply. |
Google63:Really!!! What a crude joke! So Covenant is beta than OAU because your tuition is unjustifiably expensive? I studied medicine in Great Ife. Albeit I hate childish tantrums, educating ppl lik u is now my hobby... I'm eagerly waiting for ur response. |
The way Seun and his MOD's validate posts related to Universities has to change. All sorts of junks about rankings by people who know little or nothing about Universities end up on NL front page. First, who is the author of this ranking, and what is his standing in the academic community? Allowing anyone with a phone and an account with NL to rank Universities from the comfort of his bed is juvenile. No sane academic will include Covenant University in a list comprising the best PG schools in Nigeria. And no member of the academic community will omit OAU , Ife from Top 5 and leave University of Ibadan in the 4th position! U.I has the best PG school in Nigeria. The Op's list is an insult to the academic community. Well, what more can anyone expect from a LAZY REPORTER? |
ndidibabe:You are funny. You must learn to read between the lines. My description of Portsmouth as a "third rate university" was deliberate. No top class graduate from IFE will go to Portsmouth. So, your comment that "Until you study in a top Uni in the UK..." means u need to heed to your advice because PORTSMOUTH IS NOT A TOP UNI IN THE UK. If it pleases you, I did my masters at the best uni in the world. While not saying that IFE is better than Portsmouth, I do feel that IFE should not be derided for not being among the top 1000 best universities in the world. If you don't know, know now that a first class graduate from IFE can compete against the best from anywhere. This is the gist of my comment. I hate self-praise but your comment deserves this response. |
ndidibabe:Quite frankly, u r not an IFE product. Assuming you are, u must have been a third rate student. Top class IFE graduates do not go to third rate universitis like Portsmouth. Although IFE is not among the world's 1,000 best varsities, a top class graduate from IFE can compete against the very best in d world. Without any smidgen of arrogance, I am a living testimony of the quality and robustness of an IFE graduate. Let me stop here. IFE made me who I am today. It's an amazing university. |

Let's be frank. What is Agbaje's background? Agbaje is a smooth talker. No doubt about that. Agbaje is more handsome. No doubt about that. But what is Agbaje's background? He's A pharmacist. He has never been in government but he wants to be the Governor of Lagos State. Before Obama could aspire for the office of the President, he was a Senator. He knew about the inner workings of government. When many of Agbaje's age mates were fighting for the enthronement of democracy during the military junta, Agbaje kept a distance. He stuck to his pharmaceutical shop. Today, he's gunning for the no. 2 job in Nigeria. Some people are supporting him because "they want change in Lagos". Tell me, what kind of change will you want for a state that has been the 'example of good governance ' since 1999. Well, I know the 'change' some people want. They want a change from 'Lagos is part of Yorubaland' to Lagos is 'no man's land'. Since 3 non Yorubas won seats in the House of Representatives under PDP, some are clamouring for a change that will land them a 'deputy governorship position in 2019 and a governorship position in 2023..,' Because if it is about 'change' , change has come. APC is now at the centre and Ambode knows the inner workings of govt. He will perform better than Fashola. My people, think, think and think!!! |
I'm not a tribalist. However, events in the last few days have confirmed to me the importance of thinking deeply before taking decisions. For many reasons, I thought the guber election in Lagos will be about voting for Ambode or Agbaje based on their campaign promises and perceived competence. Little did I know that there are some alarming undercurrents that many people do not know about. I was opportuned to be at a programme where a top Igbo PDP chieftain was present. Apart from subtly telling the audience that 'APC is a Yoruba party' , he also made it very clear that "Igbos will soon take over Lagos". Hear him: "We have 3 Ibo House of Representatives members. In 2019, an Igbo man will be a Deputy Governor. In 2023, an Igbo man will become the Governor of Lagos state". That forum opened my eyes to many things. Although an Igbo man, or anybody for that matter has every right to have a say where he lives; the idea of voting based on ethnic considerations and provincial interests is what I frown at. If Agbaje wins, some people will say he won because of their support and will justify their long-held assertion that they own Lagos. Although Agbaje is Yoruba, his politics is definitely not Yoruba! |
.. |
*A vast majority of Nigerians are terrible hypocrites.Hardly will you see a report that will not be discussed from tribal and religious prisms! *Just have a look at some of the comments above. I smell hatred. I smell tribalism. *The hatred that some people from a particular trible have for Northerners is beyond me! To them, anybody from the North is Hausa. What ignorance!!! *The most worrisome thing is that these set of tribalistic minds are always quick to say 'One Nigeria' , 'Lagos is no man's land' etc when it suits them... *That is why the Lagos election has not been about what Ambode or Agbaje will do. Rather, it has been about how Agbaje's PDP has favoured Igbos' in Lagos. * It's about how Igbos' in Lagos can go beyond the 3 House of Representatives seats they won this year to getting a Deputy Governorship position in 2019 and to having an Igbo Governor in 2023. *Unfortunately, many Yorubas in Lagos do not know this. They are too blinded by their hatred for Tinubu to think deeply. *Don't get me wrong, I believe that Lagos is a cosmopolitan city and everybody should be accommodated. *But the idea of having a set of people voting for a particular candidate because of parochial considerations is what I don't like. *For your information, What Oba of Lagos said is unfortunate. But believe me, he said it out of anger. He said that because he knows that the Eze Ndigbo of Lagos may, in no distant future, question his authority as the Oba of Lagos. Things are already getting close to that point. *If Agbaje wins, his victory will be seen as 'a defeat of the Foul mouthed Yorubas in Lagos by the smarter Igbo men and women in Lagos'. *I'm saying all these because I had a 'chance encounter' with Ifeanyi Ubah. That encounter has changed my perception about the Guber elections. The election is not about Ambode or Agbaje neither is it about Tinubu v Bode George. It is about something else!!! * Think, Think and Think!!! |

We live in a country where only ppl like this poor man get punished for stealing... 1.Or when, since the administration of GEJ have you heard where a corrupt politician was successfully prosecuted? 2. Unlike a thief that only robs a few persons, a corrupt politician robs millions of people of good roads, good hospitals and good schools. If weighed, corruption is the major killer of Nigerians. - Do you know the number of people that have lost their lives on our highways just because someone stole the money meant for road repairs -Do you know the number of people that died just because our hospitals were shut because of the poor salaries of workers. -Do you know the number of futures that were needlessly affected by the ASUU and ASUP strikes? YET GEJ IS TELLING US THAT "STEALING IS NOT CORRUPTION"!!! 3.Patience Jonathan/PDP have been campaigning that Buhari's approach to corruption is 'to punish and jail people'. In their world, corrupt politicians do not deserve to go to jail BUT pickpockets and 'small thieves' deserve to be jailed... Nigerians, SHINE YOUR EYES!!! We want a new Nigeria where everybody will be EQUAL under the law. I have no reason to vote for a man that just awarded millions worth of contracts to militants and OPC whereas many graduates are unemployed. SAI BUHARI |
Ore mi SEUN OSEWA, Be careful. Don't allow ANY TEMPORARY 'GAIN' to tarnish NL's image. The topic of this thread "Jonathan projected to win 26 states- GUARDIAN NEWSPAPER" is very MISLEADING. 1.The said report is an ADVERTISEMENT by a GEJ campaign group and it is on the front page of about 6 newspapers today. [b]So, It is not an Editorial by the Guardian. 2.PUNCH and VANGUARD's predictions on Sunday and Monday were Editorials; i.e. reports compiled by the Newspapers. 3. The integrity of NL must be protected. Please edit the title of this thread to "Jonathan projected to win 26 states- ADVERT". GEJ/PDP are expectedly desperate. Seeing that all the polls conducted so far favour Buhari, they had no choice but to spend their ill gotten wealth to paste their fictitious advert on the front pages of all the major newspapers in the country. This election has already been won and lost. SAI BUHARI |
Defeating an INCUMBENT PRESIDENT in Africa (particularly in NIgeria) is one of the most difficult things in the world. (1) The President is in TOTAL control of all the Security Units ('security power'). The President is in TOTAL control of the treasury ('money power'). (2) In the past 5 weeks, GEJ has really wielded his SECURITY and MONEY POWERS. Whereas APC/Buhari have run out of their limited CASH. *Before the '6 weeks', MASSOB and OPC were not openly supporting the President. *Now, with millions of dollars pipeline protection contract awarded to OPC and the promise of a similar contract to MASSOB, both violent groups are heavily supporting GEJ. (3) But GEJ/PDP have not realised that this election is not about Money neither is it about arming violent groups. But it's about Nigerians VOTING for a NEW NIGERIA. A Nigeria where 8 years tenure will no longer be automatic but based on PERFORMANCE. (4) This election will shock GEJ. I smile every time I see him hosting Nollywood actors/actresses and I see him 'showing his swags'. GEJ and his team think Nigerian Youths will vote for him because they see him in Jeans and Caps or because they see him with Nollywood stars. (5) Come this Saturday,PDP will realise that Nigerians are not as foolish as they think we are!!! (6) @ Op, thanks for the 'beautiful pictures'. But I have these to say: 1. Under GEJ, Universities were shut for 6 months. 2. Under GEJ, Polytechnics were shut for 11 months. 3. Under GEJ colleges of education were shut for several months. (7) So, Op do you think I should vote for the continuity of the ABOVE because of the 'beautiful pictures' of the 'new universities' you posted here? I've been to the 'New University' at Oye, EKiti State. I wept for Nigeria when I got there. It's a mockery of the University system. ................................. No amount of propaganda can change my mind. I will vote for BUHARI/Osinbajo on Saturday and the desired CHANGE we want in Nigeria will happen in Jesus Mighty Name...Let me hear your Amen? |
President Jonathan and his wife, with due respect to them, are ready to do ANYTHING to win this year's election. In the West, he has awarded millions (billions?) of Naira contract to OPC. In the East, MASSOB are reported to have been given millions of Naira to support his re-election bid. In the South/South, President GEJ has so much transformed the lives of Militants Tompolo, Boyloaf, Asari to the extent that they are strategically and financially positioned to fight our Army and Navy if GEJ does not win... In the North, boko haram....I will keep MUTE for now. Behind that 'righteous Christian image' that President Jonathan has, is a man that is very parochial and flagitious. If not, why will the President of Nigeria surround himself with OPC militants, Niger Delta Militants, Massob secessionists and Boko Haram alleged masterminds like the Ali Modu Sheriff, the former Governor of Borno State? Let's not kid ourselves, GEJ's govt has really debased this country. A President that has people like Bode George, Buruji Kashamu (a drug trafficker that is wanted in the US), Alamieseigha (wanted in the UK), Tompolo and Tony Anenih as his close allies cannot move this country forward. The SSS, Police and the Army have been TRANSFORMED to PDP security outfits. I wept for Nigeria after listening to the Ekiti ELECTION RIGGING TAPE. Till today, the SSS has not deemed it fit to investigate the authenticity of the tape (which I know is not in doubt anyway). Unsurprisingly, the same Obanikoro that manipulated the Ekiti election has been made a Minister by the same "righteous GEJ!!! Well, I'm happy that GEJ will be VOTED OUT on March 28. Sai Buhari |

I beg you to please watch Patience Jonathan's videos on YouTube. I watched all her videos yesterday and I discovered many things: 1. I observed that she's very parochial. She made mention of ' we don't like people from THAT SIDE' , 'wetin people from that side dey find again...this is our own time' etc in virtually all the campaign rallies she attended. 2. She has this crude and arrogant attitude of repeatedly saying 'I am your MOTHER...' , 'As your MAMA...' Etc. I guess she thinks the hitherto 'First Lady' description is belittling so she has gone for something higher- 'MAMA and MOTHER'!!! 3. She doesn't understand English language AT ALL. I wonder whether PDP realise that they indirectly attack themselves anytime they say Buhari is an 'illiterate'. if Buhari, who's a secondary school dropout (according to PDP) can speak English better than Patience Jonathan, a supposed University graduate, ALL ELSE IS LOST!!! Truly, all that I heard Patience Jonathan say sums up why Things have gone worse in Nigeria. If Patience Jonathan, who obviously wields more powers than President Jonathan appears very irredeemably dull (with respect) and crude, Nigeria can never Change in the hands of President GEJ and his wife. If you doubt me, please watch her videos... Sincerely, I can't wait to vote For Buharii + his wife/ Osinbajo + his wife They are a million times better than GEJ + his wife/ Sambo + his wife |
Chibuike,we have SOMETHING in common. CONGRATS. Mr. President, many thanks for bringing smiles to Mr.Chibuike and his family. However, democracy should be about bringing joy to the greatest number of people. Awarding scholarships to a few Nigerians cannot move our country forward. 1. What will move our country forward is by ensuring that Nigerian Children have access to quality education. 2. What's the point in investing millions on few students when the GREATER NUMBER of our University students were at home for 6 months; Polytechnics were closed down for 11 months and Colleges of education were under locks and keys for about a year!!! 3.Let's stop celebrating mediocrity. I want a President that will improve the quality of our Universities; not one that will continue the anachronistic order of sending students abroad. 4.If we Improve the quality of our Universities and hospitals; Nobody will go abroad!!! 5. Sending students abroad is a 1960/ 1970/ 1980 mentality. They've stopped all that in Ghana and South Africa. 6.It's a sign of backwardness. I will vote for CHANGE.Things Must CHANGE |
Good. But a university that does not offer medicine, law and other key courses cannot be said to be the best. The earlier Nigerians realised that webometrics is primarily concerned about web-presence; the better. Even if they are deceiving CU; I expect the management, staff and students of CU to know the truth. The best students are in Federal universities. The best lecturers are in Federal universities. What more? Note that my reference to 'Federal universities' does not include UNIPORT etc. Rather, I'm referring to U.I, IFE , UNILORIN , UNILAG ,UNN, ABU etc (in no particular order). |
Our economy is essentially INFORMAL. So, anybody that expects it to conform to theoretical expectations is living in a fool's paradise. The economy is just like electricity. If it has improved YOU WILL DEFINITELY FEEL IT. What's the point in saying our economy is the largest in Africa when 1 dollar = 211 naira and 1pound= 309 naira!!! Things have never been this bad. The Rich are getting richer. The poor are getting poorer. On March 28, Nigerians will tell GEJ/PDP the real truth about the economy. A vote for the re-election of GEJ is a vote for the THEORETICAL improvement of the economy and power supply. The era of deceit is gone. Sai Buhari. |
Anyone/ Any group of persons can call give themselves the title of "Yoruba leaders"...Yorubas know their leaders;that's what is important! Many of the names mentioned above cannot win a single ward for GEJ and yet they keep scamming GEJ. Anybody that understands Yoruba politics will tell you that politics of endorsement does not work there. OSINBAJO is APC's game changer. Yorubas that were sitting on the 'fence' were bought over when OSINBAJO, the son in law of OBAFEMI AWOLOWO was made APC's VP candidate. Coincidentally, he's also from Ikenne!!! Believe me, GEJ would have been able to get votes from some Yorubas that see Buhari as the continuation of the Hausa-Fulani political hegemony. But realising that GEJ ran a govt that embraced his Ijaw people and excluded Yorubas, that sentiment is now non-existent. Forget all the noise; APC will win in all SW states: even in Mimiko's Ondo and Fayose's Ekiti. QUOTE ME. Btw, Peter Obi was also at the meeting. I guess he's also a Yoruba leader . These people are clowns ![]() |
@ Op, I just watched that video. Nothing in the video suggests that they were dancing "after the defeat of boko haram". In fact, from their body language, it looks more like they were being 'prepped' and 'motivated' for a battle ahead. ........... May I crave the indulgence of everyone to pour out my mind on what has been boggling me. For you to understand me, I will use a numbered list. 1. I am a Nigerian. I am a Christian. The nature of my work makes it impossible for me to have 'enough time' for social media. 2. I have been following GEJ and Buhari's campaign. 3. I have never, and i beg to repeat, NEVER been this interested in Nigeria's politics, like I am now. 4. The reasons why I'm now keenly interested in the political future of this country is because i believed some of the campaign promises of GEJ. To tell you that I am disappointed is an understatement. Below are some of the reasons why I'm disappointed: a) I'm tired of a govt that plays politics with everything. Or how can you rationalise the govt's last minute war on boko haram? Where was GEJ when thousands were killed? b)I'm tired of a govt that cited security concerns for not visiting Borno BUT was able to hold a rally in the same Borno that was declared 'unsafe'. c)Power generation is at its lowest ebb. It is as if I live in a different country when i see adverts praising GEJ for bettering power supply. d) Corruption nko? Don't go there...The President is arguably the only President that has not hidden his love for corruption. He surrounds himsef with corrupt people and promotes corrupt people. You doubt me? Alams, Bode George, FFK, Oduah etc all come to mind. e) Education? ASUU was on strike for 6 months. ASUP was on strike for 11 months. Colleges of education were locked for several months...Oh, he established new universities...Does it even make sense? The existing ones are crying for attention and all our President could do was to establish new universities...Ive you been to the Federal University in Oye, Ekiti. You will weep for Nigeria. g) Hospitals....Too bad. Do you know the number of lives that were lost to the incessant strikes of the Health workers... i) No government has polarised Nigeria along ethnic and religious lines like this man...He thinks we can just gloat over his INCOMPETENCE because he's a Xtian and from the South...No way!!!I can go on and on 5. Forget GEJ's pious posture. He's very desperate. He's ready to do anything to win the elections. 6. They think Nigerians are simpletons. They think by paying some youths to write pro- GEJ comments on social media and furthering their propaganda on AIT and co will win them the elections...THEY ARE WRONG. 7. My daily interaction with Nigerians show that MANY cannot wait for MARCH 28... 8. The Presidential election is not about Buhari v GEJ 9. It's about RIGHT v WRONG. 10. Lets face it.The First Term performance of GEJ is his best.No politician has ever performed better in it's Second term. I cannot wait to vote for Buhari/Osinbajo |

I hope many Nigerians realise what is going on!!! If you don't, please check the following: 1. The first person that publicly asked/advised that the election be postponed is DASUKI, GEJ's appointee. 2. INEC has always maintained that it is ready for the election. 3. The reasons that have been given by PDP for the postponement are: Poor distribution of PVC and Insecurity. A) ON PVCs, it is public knowledge that All APC states declared public holidays to encourage the collection of PVCs. However, this did not have the desired effect because many Nigerians work in the private sector and they only recognise FG holidays. So, let's ask ourselves this question: IF THE FG GENUINELY WANT NIGERIANS TO COLLECT PVCs, WHY IS IT DIFFICULT TO DECLARE A PUBLIC HOLIDAY? B) ON INSECURITY: The Army says they need time to quell Boko haram so that people in the NORTH EAST will be able to vote. Tell me, can they they do in 4 months what they could not do in four years? This is the same military that declared that boko haram will be no more by October, 2013. NIGERIANS, THINK!!! This postponement is being pushed by the presidency because the handwriting of their defeat is on the wall. This is why they need time to: 1. Stop APC's momentum; 2. Finish off Buhari with propanganda...if you need evidence, You just need to watch AIT 3 Stop APC's financial capacity to contest effectively. Or don't you know that more money will be required if the election is postponed!!! Check INEC's website, you will see that the states with the lowest number of PVCs are Ogun, Osun, Oyo and Lagos. If anything at all, APC ought to be pushing for postponement; not PDP. But they know, just like many of us, that even if one million people VOTE, APC will still win. Regardless of whatever, I am a Xtian and my vote is for Buhari any day, any time. |
Seun, Thanks for beaming the searchlight on Buhari. You are a great 'JOURNALIST'. But Seun, we will really appreciate if you can also use your 'journalistic talents' to beam a searchlight on the present government. Or you don't consider it necessary for Nigerians to REMEMBER that: 1. The Chibok girls are still missing 2. That a dollar to naira is now 210. 3. That our hospitals are under locks and keys. 4. That universities were closed down for 6 months 5. Polytechnics were shut down for 11 months 6. Colleges of education were shut down for several months. 7. Oil theft is at an all time high. 8. Boko haram? They kill people everyday...Just check youtube if you have the heart! 9. Our international reputation? Gone to the dogs... 10. Corruption? Don't even go there! Billions now have wings...After all, Stealing is not corruption!!! Seun, my point is: we know that Buhari is not perfect. He ruled with force as Head of State. He was ruthess...Yes, we know that! But how do you expect a man who ruled as HEAD OF STATE to have ruled? It's a no-brainer! Happily, there's something fantastic about the epistles from the US Library, and that is: BUHARI IS NOT CORRUPT!!! And believe me, he is all we need right now... Sai Buhari!!! Cheers |
Seun, If you like, change Nairaland's name to GEJland; It will still not change anything... GEJ cannot win. Buhari has won. I'm not a politician but majority of people in My church (RCCG), Office, Street & all my friends Are supporting Buhari... Mind you, these ppl voted for GEJ in 2011. If u doubt me, Feb 14 will shock u |

I was actually expecting quotes from those that finished from faculty of Science
