PoliticsRe: Under Aregbesola, Nigerians Waited For 2yrs To Get Passport, Today, It Is 2 Week by Penguin2: 8:03pm On Jul 06, 2025
True!

I have personal admiration for Tunji-Ojo and the work he’s doing at the Ministry of Interior. I hope he governes his state someday and deliver same way. Ondo will be lucky.

Another person I admire his work in this administration is Zach Adedeji of the defunct FIRS. Man is silently delivering.

When you see people that are good, you say it irrespective of the side they are on. I’m not like Tinubu supporters who don’t see anything good in anyone not supporting Tinubu.

Now, to Aregbesola, his capacity is irrelevant because he’s a mere party secretary which has zero influence on the life of the masses.

What we should concern ourselves with is who emerges candidate of the coalition and not these inanities.

Something tells me a governor will be elected for Anioma State in 2027.

Possibly Tinubu might also assent to one two more states just for balance.

But only Anioma is the legitimate demand.

Is not about what i believe, but looking at the bigger picture.

Obi is very popular in the south especially se and ss. He will win se conveniently. But do u know only kano votes can cover whatever is loss in the se for APC. Meaning APC can use only kano and counter the entire se.

Abi you think tinubu trying to court kwankwaso is because he likes kwankwaso abi.

The painful truth is whether we admit it or not, the north have the numbers. Ignore them and OYO is your name.

Which yeye votes can elrufai bring? He isn't as popular as Atiku in the north. Besides the northerners will be very foolish to vote for Obi that might end up doing another 8yrs instead of waiting for tinubu to complete his remaining 4yrs. You guys should always think abeg!

Any good political analyst will tell you Atiku is the only person that will give tinubu a run for his money. The Oldman has the spread, the financial pocket and the experience.

Besides I know tinubu is a smart politician, so defeating him won't be easy even for the coalition
You people said Atiku is the only one that can beat Tinubu in 2023 and we left you people to beat Tinubu like you said and couldn’t.

Peter Obi won that election but INEC shutdown the IREV to stop him.

And now you are back again with narrative?

See, if the likes of Atiku, Elrufai, Sule Lamido, etc, can’t get northerners to vote for Obi, then they are not after the rescue of Nigeria but after power grab and I won’t be part of that.

Instead of Atiku in Aso Rock, let Tinubu finish his 8 years.

WizardOfNG:
Bro, how can you talk like this? Thought you were a realist who, regardless of political affiliation, defers to the true state of affairs in our nation.

Of course the North, their leaders specifically, value power more than the security of Northerners. Is it Tinubu or GEJ's fault many Northerners are in IDP camps?

You talk of solutions to mass hunger, who made Northerners 87% of the most poverty-ridden Nigerians alive and the people with some of the worst human development index in the entire world if not their callous leaders like Atiku who lives in beautiful and shiny Dubai preferentially, and away from the 'eyesores' poverty of the North, to then show up every four years demanding to be President of all Nigerians?

If he genuinely loves and values Northerners should he not be on ground, every single day, using his considerable wealth and influence to seek solutions for his people and region?

You think leaders who can leave Northerners in the pathetic state they are in today, as by far the worst of Nigerians, care about progress for ordinary folks?

If they can do what we have witnessed them do to their own people for several decades now, and effectively reduce them to docile almajiri only of value during elections, does it appear to any sane person that Northern leaders care about anything or anyone other than power?

Even you, as one of the more objective critics of Tinubu, will appreciate deep down that Nigeria will never get significantly better under a Northerner because what the Northerner below, residing in The USA, reveals is what Northern leaders are sworn to defend and retain forever.

Northern leaders will always be gradualist, Conservative, unprogressive and anti capitalist-leaning whether deliberately, in the case of Buhari, or reluctantly by leaders like Atiku who could not stand his ground to defend Deborah and condemn what happened to her so as not to offend the consensus conclusion of the North .

Most Northern leaders are not interested in progressive reforms or changes. Those who are, like Dogara and Shehu Sani etal, will not be allowed to deliver them because they will be attacked and demonised by unprogressive fellow Northerners who happen to be in the majority.

It is why proper and enduring progress can only happen under a Southern President and the reason rotation must be fastidiously observed with the South allowed her full 8 year without hijack of power from the born-to-rule imperialist from the North who always demand power but have no interest in using such well and to the benefit of all Nigerians beginning with their own people.

Personally, if full and irreversible regional autonomy had arrived, I am.100% sure no Yoruba will be interested in who is or who is not Nigeria's President ever again so far as we have total freedom from 'one Nigeria' regression to go and develop our region precisely how we want.
Thank you for your extensive submission and for quite agreeing with me majorly.

I had thought you were saying only Atiku would defeat Tinubu which was why I disagreed with you.

Now, just to add to what you said… a lot of undiscerning Nigerians are yet to understand the game the north is playing or keeps playing with the south. They are always feeling it’s a privilege to the south if they ‘allow’ a southerner to be president.

And like you said, they are deliberate about leaving the talakawas of the north as paupers and illiterates so they can always herd them like a cattle during elections and tell them where to thumbprint. And they are ready to even kill anybody who dares to free those Almajiris from that shackle. Take what they did to Jonathan and his Almajiri school initiative for instance.

That’s why I cannot support an Atiku to become president anymore. He’s a despot and would reconfigure Nigeria back to the way it only favours the north.

We can’t make the mistake of 2015 when we shouted “anything but Jonathan” and ended up enthroning a disaster in Buhari. This time, if Tinubu must go, he must be replaced by a verifiable better choice. No more, no less.

Penguin2, mention just one state in the north west and north east that an Obi/El-Rufai ticket will win. Again, explain to me how Obi will defeat Atiku at the ADC primary election.
I’m going to start with your last question and tell you that if the coalition is not going to make Peter Obi their consensus candidate, Peter Obi will not go into any primaries with an Atiku.

Like Datti asked, what sort of primaries will an Amaechi do with an Atiku? Admittedly, Atiku has the network and money to win the primaries. The question is, away from the primaries, can he win the election?

And about the north, an Obi/Elrufai ticket can win majority of the core northern states if they are serious with their support for Obi.

Or tell me why the core northern voters would still choose Tinubu over Obi after the hunger he has put them through since he came into power.

Emotions don't win elections but a good strategy does so. Why do you think tinubu ran a muslim/muslim ticket in 2023?

Ok if obi is given the ticket, how many northerners will vote for him? He will be an unpopular candidate in the north giving APC an edge.
So, you believe Obi can get the south to vote Atiku if he is Atiku’s running mate even though Atiku is not popular in the south due to zoning considerations.

But you don’t believe Elrufai can get the north to vote Obi?

That’s your reasoning abi?

PoliticsObi/Elrufai: One Of Jesus’ Apostle Was A Tax Collector; Another Was A Thief. by Penguin2(op): 8:59am On Jul 06, 2025
I see a lot of people talking ill of the supposed new found fraternity between Peter Obi and Mallam Nasir Elrufai. This is because of the things Elrufai has said about Peter Obi in the past.

Similarly, in the past two days, I’ve seen throwback of Elrufai’s disparaging remarks make the front page twice here on Nairaland. This is unlike what happens when we post the throwback of Reno Omokri or FFK or Daniel Bwala against Tinubu. Such posts are never moved to front page. That is if they are not deleted. It makes one wonder if Nairaland is truly neutral and unbiased or it has taken a side.

Now, to those criticizing the new found friendship between Elrufai and Obi, I want to remind you of the greatest being to ever exist, Jesus Christ. He is Perfect. He is God. He can see the end from the beginning. But yet, amongst his 12 Apostles, one of them, Mathew, was the head of tax collectors. Another, Judas, was a thief that ended up selling Him for 30 Shekels.

In fact, Jesus’ association with Mathew, the head of the tax collectors, was one of the reasons some Jews vowed He was not the saviour that was coming because the believed that the saviour they were promised will not associate Himself with a character like Mathew who they all see as an oppressor.

But did Jesus’ association with Mathew diminish His divinity? No. Did it diminish His holiness? No. Nothing of Jesus was affected by that association as it also did not derail Him from His purpose on earth which was to save mankind from Original sin.

Make no mistake, this is not me equating Peter Obi to Jesus Christ but just drawing allegory from the most perfect being to ever walk planet earth who we all look up to and try to model our lives after.

In the end, my point is that, while I do not even believe the sincerity of Elrufai and his kins around Obi as I expect them to switch back to default settings in no distant time, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the new found friendship as it will not change who Obi is nor his intentions for Nigeria should he ever get the chance to be Nigeria’s president.

PoliticsRe: Senate Gives Condition For Natasha Akpoti’s Recall, After Court Order by Penguin2: 8:33am On Jul 06, 2025
The power to suspend a senator should be extricated from the laws guiding the senate.

Now, due to fear of suspension, some senators don’t express themselves the way they should have, and that dampens opposition.

That practice is so stupid and should stop.

Even if suspension should remain, it will be for such action as rape, armed robbery, wife battery, etc. But not because a senator challenged the senate president or spoke ill of the president.

Bruv, let us begin 30 days fasting and prayers so, by some madness or miracle, Obi gets the ADC ticket.

By 12.00 on election day, Tinubu will be announced winner because only Obi's people are sentimental enough to not understand that not one political, religious or cultural Northern leader will direct their blindly devoted fans to vote Obi as that carries a risk of a further 8 years out of power for the North than 4 years.

Power is all the North Live for and they feel unwell, incomplete and naked without it. Unlike other regions, the North is most scared of being without power for too long because they know the warped 'one Nigeria' system favours them most .

Meaning the longer they are out of power the greater the chance of a stubborn and radical non-Northern President doing away with a redundant system feeding the indolent and unprogressive North to the detriment of others. They know this well and it is their greatest fear.

Northerner are never prompted to vote for the progress of Nigeria. They are led to vote to safeguard a win for who/what is in the best interest of the North and how they wish to continue living

Northerners are always teleguided to vote and those teleguiding them (Emirs, Imams, Sultans, Alhajis, clerics, Governors, Senators etal) will never endorse Obi knowing such carries a risk of 8 more years without power for the North.

Obi is best for us Jagaban fan who wants baba to even be on holiday in Barbados on election day in relaxation mood over an election done deal victory over the Agulu charlatan.
If the north values power returning to the north over their own security, goodluck to them.

If they value power to solution to the mass hunger in their region, then goodluck to them.

It’s Obi or Tinubu should complete his 8 years.

That Obi has more votes than the coalition is neither here nor there if he doesn’t get the ticket. Like I said Zik won the election, he ended up a ceremonial president with Balewa with the real power!

PoliticsI’ll Support Peter Obi If He Emerges Coalition Candidate - Sule Lamido by Penguin2(op): 10:58am On Jul 05, 2025
The one man that I can accept Obi replacing Datti with.

Sule Lamido is a performer with no history of religious fundamentalism or bigotry.

Former Jigawa State Governor and Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed willingness to support Mr. Peter Obi in the 2027 Presidential election should he emerge as the standard bearer of the coalition.

This is just as the Middle Belt Forum said may have no choice than stick with Peter Obi noting that the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election has a track record of keeping to promise.

Lamido, who was responding to a question as to whether he would support Obi, who has offered to spend a single term of four- years if he wins the 2027 presidential election, said, “If the coalition produces Peter Obi or anyone else committed to rescuing Nigeria, I will support them. But I remain PDP. We should have outgrown tribal and regional sentiments.

Leadership should be about competence and vision, not geography. What has the North gained from producing the most presidents if the region remains underdeveloped? I’m open to any arrangement that can confront the APC and rescue Nigeria. I’ll support those who share that goal.”

The former governor explained that zoning between the North and South was a creation of the PDP designed to solve a specific problem which was the annulment of the June 12 election. According to him, “it was meant to be a healing mechanism, a temporary measure to restore trust. But now, it has become an albatross.”

On its part, The Middle Belt Forum, MBF, says since the North lacks options they might stick with Peter Obi and his promise to serve one term in office if elected President of the country in 2027, given his track record of keeping to promises. The National President of MBF, Dr Bitrus Pogu maintained that the North would have no choice but to support a candidate from the South that they could trust since any move to produce a candidate from the North might not fly. He said that they could support Peter Obi based on his promise or former President Goodluck Jonathan if he is allowed, and the fact that the law would permit him only one term.

Dr. Pogu said, “I want to say that a drowning person wouldn’t mind even holding onto a straw thinking that it will save him. So, in the situation which the North finds itself in, I do not think that their choices are many. Getting a Northerner to contest is a problem and they must have to trust somebody that has a track record of consistency which Peter Obi seems to have.

“But the issue now is, in spite of his pronouncement, in spite of the fact that they may extract a written agreement from him, will they faithfully carry out their support promises. That is the issue, because some of them could still say let us try our Atiku again or try one of those ones in the North, but they know that it is not going to sell, they know that very well. So they may still go for somebody in the South, either somebody who will promise them like Peter Obi or somebody like former President Jonathan if it is allowed, knowing that he cannot go beyond one term. So these are the options they have, because when people lack options, of course any option is a good option.”

A former Minister of Information and Communication, Ibrahim Nakande noted that, “For someone to say he will do only one term is political. Will the people from his zone agree with that? He has support everywhere, even in the north if you look at the record in the last election. There is no way he won’t have support, it depends on his proposed policies and programmes, and it is up to the greater Nigerian people to decide. I don’t think he is correct saying such a thing”.

Tinubu is in best position to hand over power to a northerner after 2027 — Yakasai

Elder Statesman and former Presidential Liaison Officer during the Second Republic, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai however maintained that President Bola Tinubu who is already in office will have only four more years after 2027, if re-elected for a second term. Yakasai explained that President Bola Tinubu is in the best position to hand over power to a northerner if Nigerians elect such a person.

According to him, “it is public knowledge that the constitution restricts the President to a maximum of two- terms of four years each. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is therefore in the best position to honour an agreement to handover four years after 2027 because even the constitution is there to compel him to do so.”

President of Arewa Defence League (ADL), Alhaji Murtala Abubakar, argued that “the principle of zoning and rotational presidency was weakened when former President Goodluck Jonathan, a Southerner, contested and won in 2011 despite the expectation that power should remain in the North to complete the “North-South rotation” after President Yar’Adua’s death. Since then, the political landscape has evolved, and Nigerians now prioritize competence, credibility and capacity over regional entitlement. The idea that power must “rotate” artificially restricts democratic choice and is no longer tenable in a modern Nigeria. A true democracy thrives when citizens freely elect the best candidate, regardless of ethnic or geographical origin.

Imposing an arbitrary one-term limit on a Southern president in 2027 undermines the will of the people and suggests that leadership should be determined by regional bargaining rather than performance and popular mandate.

If a Southern president performs exceptionally well, why should they be forced out after one term simply to satisfy an outdated zoning arrangement? The North is home to millions of competent, educated, and politically astute individuals who are fully capable of competing for the presidency on the strength of their ideas and leadership qualities—not through backroom zoning deals.

The Arewa Defence League believes in a merit-based system where any candidate, Northern or Southern, can contest and win based on their vision for Nigeria, not on artificial rotational agreements. When political offices are allocated based on regional considerations rather than competence, it breeds mediocrity and weakens governance just like the current situation in the country. Nigeria’s challenges require the best leaders, not those selected merely to fulfill a zoning formula. The call for a one-term Southern president in 2027 is a divisive tactic that reinforces regional distrust rather than fostering national cohesion”.

On his part, Alhaji Muhammad Salihu Danlami, Speaker of the Arewa Youth Assembly, said the North would not be deceived again with such an arrangement as proposed by Peter Obi. “Though not constitutional, Nigerians enjoy a gentle man agreement that power should rotate between the north and south. After the death of President Musa Yar’adua, the north was clamoring to complete its 8 years in power according to the gentleman’s agreement but we are all aware of what happened.

“The North succumbed to power of incumbency in 2011 and allowed President Goodluck Johnathan who promised Nigerians, he would be a one term president and he was elected only to seek re-election in 2015.We should not also forget in 2023, after north’s 8 years in power when Atiku Abubakar wanted power to remain in the North, but his main opposition came from the North that eventually led to his defeat.

With this mutual agreement/arrangement for the unity of our dear Nigeria, the southern presidency will continue till 2031 and the North will not accept any presidential candidates who will try to sell the idea of one term because we have once fallen for it in 2011 and we were highly disappointed. The North will not support Peter Obi because of his type of politics of religion and ethnicity, “ he alleged.

Time will tell where our true allegiance lies regarding 2027—Alhaji Jamilu Charanchi

In his remarks, Alhaji Jamilu Charanchi of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), said only time will reveal where the true allegiance of the North lies in 2027.

He said, “one of the most ironic traits of desperate Nigerian politicians is their boundless ability to promise heaven and earth just to secure votes, yet the moment they assume office, those promises vanish into thin air. The Nigerian political class has built a deep-rooted trust deficit across all sectors of society.

Keeping campaign promises has become the exception, not the rule. Anyone who still believes in such promises without critical scrutiny is simply deceiving himself. As for 2027, only time will reveal where the true allegiance of the North lies, not sweet words, but actions will shape that decision,” he concluded.

We can’t trust such promises — Anthony Sani

In his own reaction, former Secretary General of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Anthony Sani, said presidential aspirants who pledge to do only one tenure makes him feel they are unduly desperate for power and not for service. According to the elder statesman,”I have said it several times that the North may be united on political issues which most northerners share. But when it comes to partisan issues northerners hardly speak with one voice.

That may explain why Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Abubakar Atiku shared the votes in the North during the last presidential elections. When aspirants pledge to do only one tenure, it makes me feel they are unduly desperate for power and not for service of the people.

I therefore cannot say the North will swallow such a bait of one term pledged by Peter Obi. Unless President Bola Tinubu does so badly in his first term, which may not be so, I expect the North to prefer President Bola Tinubu who has only one tenure left to go, if elected, as against Peter Obi who can change his mind reminiscent of how President Jonathan changed his mind and contested in 2015,” he said.

The North will not be convinced by Obi’s statement—Bitrus Kaze,

A former Member representing Jos East/Jos South in the National Assembly, Bitrus Kaze, who supported Obi in the 2023 election, said, “That’s a tricky one. Now that Tinubu is President and gearing up for the second term. It looks appealing, reasonable and mature, but the north that I know, I mean the far north without the Middle Belt and the minority tribes in the so-called north, may not be convinced. The statement is pacifying but knowing how powerful the Nigerian Presidency is, I am not sure the north will be convinced.

Maybe the Middle Belt area, and the areas he got support in the past can accept, and respect what he said, but the law didn’t say a President can’t contest for the second term.

Obi’s profile is on the rise across Northern Nigeria —Tanko Yunusa

Meanwhile, the Global Coordinator of Obidient Movement Alhaji Tanko Yunusa expressed confidence that Peter Obi’s philanthropic gestures as well as his recent proposal to spend only one term if elected President come 2027 have boosted Obi’s profile especially across the northern part of the country.

Tanko said, “Peter Obi’s offer to serve a single term of four-years will undoubtedly assuage the concerns in some quarters about what his electoral victory could mean for the gentleman agreement of rotating political power between the North and South. There is no doubt that Obi’s proposal is being well received in the north where his actions and utterances are rebuilding trust.

Only recently, the Pantami Emirate in Gombe State honoured him with a traditional title. The real political symbolism of this is the fact that a respected Northern emirate conferred one of its highest honours on a politician from the South-East.

“Obi’s acceptance in the north where I come from is far better in 2025 than what we saw during the 2023 elections. It is a genuine paradigm shift that is poised to boost his electoral value in future elections. On the single term proposal, Obi said even four years is too much for what he wants to achieve. That’s how determined and prepared he is to transform Nigeria.”

And she is still a member of the confusion abi na collision party or how do they call the association again? She is practically practicing anti-party.

Are these the people who want to unseat President Tinubu that we all know? One of the smartest politician Nigeria has ever had? The last of the surviving rare breed of true democrat? The one that can't be taken unaware? These people are jokers!! Their jokes are nothing but a new discovery.
She’s simply learning from Wike.

Or you don’t have a problem when Wike does anti-party but become a moral police once another person starts to copy Wike?

You people will be beaten at your own games.

Relax! It’s still morning.

Since you're aware of igbophobia whydo you now insist that Obi was voted for by the North and should thus be the candidate of the coalition?

It's reality we're talking about here not fantasy. Personally, I don't believe in zoning that has a second term option for the incumbent which is why I think the noise about zoning is self-serving. If the politicians truly believe in zoning, then the presidency should be a single term. That's because just as it happened in 2019, the performance of the incumbent will become secondary to the expectant region just as we have now. Even if you were the one who is expecting power in four years and some people are telling you to vote someone else who will now have the option of staying for 8 years, you will choose the safer option which is letting the incumbent do his remaining four years.

How many are the youths destroying Tinubu's billboards? You really think those destroying billboards will vote Obi to come and do 8 years when they know Tinubu cannot do more than four years? This is not about rating or not. It is about human behaviour and response to the system. If you are in their shoes, you will make similar choices. It is far easier for northerners to vote Atiku even if they know he's doing a single term just to spite Tinubu and then vote an Obi afterwards than for you to tell them to vote two southerners in quick succession. I can easily tell you that will not happen. That's the weakness of zoning with an incumbent running.

And let me ask you. Why should the northerners believe Obi that he will run for a single term? Is he not a politician? Don't you rate them too?
The north didn’t vote Obi in 2023 but will vote him in 2027 if Atiku, Elrufai and co deploy their arsenal to campaign for him.

Or you think that won’t make any difference?

That this crop of Northerners can’t do it alone does not mean they are going to back him. Obi himself can’t do it alone! So don’t make out like obi himself doesn’t need them.

They need each other and that’s the point. Let nobody think he can bluff anybody! If he goes alone, they all fail! If he joins them, all that is available to him is the VP slot….that’s all!

You are arguing a different point. My point is not about who needs who, they both need each other. The point is that the coalition is a perfectly crafted trap for Obi but he has no choice! The point is that Obi won’t get the presidential ticket. Telling me somebody needs somebody is like telling me 1+1=2……did you just discover that? If BOTH sides did not need each other they wouldn’t be in a coalition! So please tell me something I don’t know!

I have already told you he knows it is a trap that is why he has not officially joined and is submitting proposal for 4yr single term. If he doesn’t join he can’t win, if he joins he won’t get the presidential ticket! Is it that hard to understand?

I will not be surprised if the coalition’s primaries are one of the last primaries to hold……why? Because they will time it such that Obi doesn’t have the time to look for another party!

I will also not be surprised if he doesn’t officially join ADC because he knows the game they are playing!
Obi will not participate in any primaries.

And they’ve not given birth to the man or people that would trap Obi.

It’s the turn of the south. They either give Obi the ticket or APC’s prediction about the coalition will come to pass.

The scenario of Osinbajo is totally different. No one promised him president neither did he have any political following that could have given him a headstart to negotiate with
You can see what happened with Shettima in APC NE recently where people got beaten up. That's the advantage of having political following
Relegating the VP does not mean he still cannot emerge candidate. Tinubu was largely relegated by Buhari's govt but because of his large political capital and Buhari's reticence, he emerged despite Buhari's preference for a northerner.
Forget about Obi being running mate to Atiku. That’s a dead talk.

IF HE BECOMES THE CANDIDATE but you and i know that wont happen.

The most logical calculation is for Atiku to win the ticke and obi becoming his vice, let atiku rule for 8 years and obi takes over. Common sense.
Do you know why Obi can’t accept that deal?

Look at what happened to Osinbajo.

Look at what is happening to Shettima.

Once whoever is the presidential candidate wins, his men will relegate the Vice President who may not have say anymore not to talk of powers to enforce any pre-election agreement.

Obi will never fall for that. Instead, let Tinubu complete his 8 years.
