Politics › Re: Atiku Or Peter Obi: Who Should Lead The Coalition? by Penguin2(op): 3:52pm On Apr 25, 2025 |
SmartPolician: Amy coalition that doesn't involve governors cannot win a presidential election. Nigerian institutions are so weak that anyone can rig the election and get away with it. As regards who will lead the coalition, I personally think Peter Obi should, but Atiku wants to be president by all means. I disagree. How many governors did Obi have when he won 11 states and the FCT in 2023? These things are just false narratives that they plant into our heads to make us think the governors are almighty. But 2023 showed that the people are the structure. Forget where the governor is standing, if the people collectively resolve where they want to go, there’s little to nothing a governor can do. |

fergie001: Atilu is already in the forefront of it, driving it. Obi hasn't joined the fray yet. I think Obi is still sceptical of the agenda of the drivers. But I believe soon, the pressure will start mounting on Atiku to shelve his ambition of someone else. Analysts are already blaming him for being the architect of PDP’s current woes. Making him the candidate of the coalition will just be a joke and an easy ride for Tinubu. |
Politics › Atiku Or Peter Obi: Who Should Lead The Coalition? by Penguin2(op): 3:22pm On Apr 25, 2025 |
With the line of opposition blurring following the defection of some Delta Governor and Former Governor and others, with other expected defections, it’s now obvious that those who would be remaining in whatever would remain of opposition parties after defections, would have to work together to stand a chance against Tinubu in 2027.
But the question is, who would be the coalition’s best bet against Tinubu: Atiku or Obi?
Like someone said, with 13 governors and 38 senators, Atiku could only stay ahead of Obi with about 800k votes while Obi garnered over 6million votes without a single governor nor senator nor House of Rep or Assembly Member.
With the data above, isn’t it obvious who commands higher following even without stakeholders support?
Again, the zoning sentiments says it’s still the turn of the South in 2027 which gives Obi an edge.
Should the coalition make the mistake of adopting a northerner (Atiku or anyone else), then they may have played into the hands of Tinubu as the election will truly become a north vs south battle and I doubt the north will win that battle.
But with Obi, the coalition will be certain that Southeast and Southsouth is locked down for Obi. Add the votes of northern christians and then the north only has to convince the core north to vote Obi as well, and the numbers will be too much to rig.
But these are just my views. What do you think? Who is best fit to lead the coalition?

stanluiz: The SS are already falling. Rivers, Delta and Akwa ibom.
What you should worried about is the governors rigging votes massively for tinubu in 2027 just like wike did in rivers in 2023.
If the governors act like gentlemen and allow the votes of the people, them, opposition will sweep the states in 2027.
But the governors may try as much as possible to give Tinubu 25% or more than.
Am talking of the SS governors not SE especially Rivers and Akwa ibom.
Obi win Edo and Delta landslide. Even though, no SS states voted was more than 400k votes. Highest is 350k votes. I think it’s a deliberate game plan by Tinubu and Wike. They want the Southsouth to align with the Southwest while Tinubu may scramble for votes from Northern Christians by substituting Shettima for Dogara or another Northern Christian. But Southsouth has been voting in same direction with Southeast since elections started in Nigeria. So, let’s see how far that game plan takes him. |

If Southern political stakeholders, especially those from Southeast and Southsouth, fall for Tinubu’s South Vs North game, then they are fools.
This is somebody who won election and has spent the entire time appointing his kinsmen in already consequential appointments. Now, it’s time for election and the he wants to preach United South.
This is somebody whose supporters abuse Igbos, calling them IPOBs and asking them to leave Lagos. The rest of southerners are not spared from their constant tribalistic barages.
There is no United South. The Southwest alone should deliver Tinubu in 2027. |

ufotunang: ..abi.. Nigerians should not follow all this governors and politicians supporting Tinubu re election.they are doing it for their selfish interest..it's Nigerians that are complaining of hunger, hardship, inflation, high costs of living, high rate of unemployment ..the governor and politicians the hunger, inflation, high costs of living and hardship is not affecting them they are very rich and living comfortably..so Nigerians you are the ones complaining of the hunger and hardship so do not follow all this governors and politicians supporting Tinubu re election...if you do not want to keep on suffering and lavishing in hunger, poverty hardship, inflation, high costs of living in 2027 upwards Same thing I’m saying. I’m not moved one bit by the games the governors are playing. None of them have the interest of their people at heart while doing that. It’s all about their own interest. But my happiness is that they cannot tell voters where to vote. And unlike 2023 elections that was rigged without consequence, I doubt 2027 elections will be as peaceful if rigged again. Especially with the north already charged and ready for blood. |

fergie001: Okowa is likely joining him, though they are fine-tuning the deal because of Omo-Agege and others.
It's a South v North thing now... The North won't give Asiwaju what he got in 2023. The rest of the South will be fools if they join Tinubu to play that South Vs North game while he’s concentrating every meaningful appointments in his region and tribe. What I’m confident about is that, just like 2023, it’s not the stakeholders that will determine where the voters will thumbprint. Let them play their game while we wait for them at the ballot box. To put things in context, Ned, Omo Agege and Oborovwori cannot lead Deltans by the nose and tell them where to vote. Neither can Wike and Fubara tell Rivers people who to vote for should they cross to APC and make Tinubu their project. The most they can do is rig the votes like they did in 2023. But let’s see how that goes. |
Politics › Re: Presidential Aspirants in 1979 (Throwback Photo) by Penguin2: 4:40pm On Apr 22, 2025 |
JuanDeDios: This is NOT correct.
Wazari Ibrahim and Aminu Kanu were easily among the most popular politicians around, so the Northern vote was split between NPN, GNPP and PRP. Shagari relied on votes from the south to clinch it, especially what we now call the South South. In fact, it was because of his complete route of places like Cross River that Joseph Wayas was made the Senate President. Valid points! But in a normal circumstance, Shagari shouldn’t have won an election that had Awolowo and Azikiwe on the ballot. Nigeria has been making wrong choices since time immemorial. |
Politics › Re: Presidential Aspirants in 1979 (Throwback Photo) by Penguin2: 9:46am On Apr 22, 2025 |
JuanDeDios: Only the NPN had the kind of national spread to win. Even if they had fielded a southerner, he'd have won. They didn’t have the spread per se. Shagari only won due to the monolithic North then. All of northern voters voted him and then there was an alliance with Azikiwe’s party which was why Alex Ekwueme became Vice President. |

Wike and Fayose are just too foolish. And what is funny is that they think people don’t know what they are doing.
Not only are they working against Peter Obi’s presidency in 2027, they have also started engaging in rhetorics to kill his chances in 2031 should Tinubu complete his 8 years.
Usually, it’s northerners that should be talking about how a southerner cannot succeed Tinubu but it’s Wike and his Asoebi boys that are saying it because they want Wike to be Vice President in 2031.
But even 2031, Peter Obi will still run again if he doesn’t win in 2027.
Shebi Atiku and Kwankwaso dared to be president after 8 years of Buhari?
Thunder fire any bastard that says a southerner can’t succeed Tinubu.

fergie001: The fact he is going to Court means they have ghosted him. They tricked him perhaps, otherwise, they wouldn't let him go to Court. I thought of that too. That they could be tricking him. Remember that Soludo is good with people in APC; both Tinubu and Southeast stakeholders. So, I sincerely didn’t see them trying to dislodge him from power. But they knew that if Val remained in LP he would be the only real threat to Soludo. That’s why they dangled a carrot for the buffoon and he fail for it and their game plan worked. Because right now, Soludo has no real challenger in the oncoming election. But all these would have been different if Val was loyal to his principles and convictions. The guy messed up big time. |
