stopdat:If he is capable of determining whether an election has been rigged or not, then why the need for Election Tribunal and the courts? If he wins and PDP says election was rigged and as such form a parallel government, what will happen? Unfortunately, these are the guys seen to be progressive by the new crop of young Nigerians. |
celeron40:So the President is powerful? If the LP member of House in Ondo state looses his seat because of defection (Just because LP was not divided as at the time of taking the decision) then Tambuwal is no more a member and cannot be speaker. He should have moved with the 5 governors and hide under NPDP but all of those is over now and if he cannot prove that Sokoto PDP is divided as at the date he formally defected, then he should step aside. |
idupaul:Pls provide your source to have said Army did not do it but Vigilantes. The truth is, many don't wish Nigeria well. If NA decides to down tools, many of us will swim to neighbouring countries. Kudos to the Army!!! |
satowind:The Atiku Case has clarified to Certain extent the defection of an elected executive Officer (http://www.nigeria-law.org/Attorney-General of the Federation & Ors v Alhaji Atiku Abubakar & Ors.htm) The case of LP house of rep member in ondo state clearly clarifies that a lawmaker looses his seat upon defection except in case of a division (http://www.punchng.com/news/court-sacks-ondo-rep-for-dumping-lp/) . As at the moment, is there a division in PDP? The answer is NO because the NPDP (though not recognized by INEC or the courts) since moved to APC. We are all waiting for the courts. |
As a President, what do you do when a Military personel leave an heavily armed tank because someone bringgs AK47 and run just because they want to donate a tank to BH? The complicities in this war requires a lot of caution or else the whole armoury will be given to BH. The airforce pounding from the air is better and ground forces to mop up is still sufficient now. |
Gbawe:Lagos, Ogun and Ibadan have some advantages due to developments as a result of Federal Capital before IBB moved the seat of government to Abuja. As a businessman, cosmopilitan cities like Lagos is a better option and most especially for existing infrastructure which can support business. Ogun state has overtaken Lagos in terms of industrialization as factories in Lagos are been turned to worship centres. It is not because of Power alone because Ogun state and Oyo state are also in Nigeria and many run personal power generation System but the business climate in Lagos is just too harsh. With Ondo state holding the Dangote Refineries and other investments that will go into Bitumen, more development will come in that corridor. On this matter, flour Mills and BAT moved to Ibadan in 2003 and a PDP govt was in power then. The new commissioning is as a result of expansion. Rather than looking for who to give glory, let's recount this as one of the many things that has happened to Nigeria since 1999 rather than the sweeping statement (like, there is nothing on ground, we are worse than 1999, we are taking steps backward, we have been retrogressing and the like) just because of 2015. For me, we built the service sector during Obj but at the saturation of the banks and Telecoms, the job opportunities declined but we are currently building capacity in real sector (power generation turbine plants been built by GE in Calabar, rice mill plants of Abakaliki & more, refineries under construction by Dangote, Cement factories by Dangote, Steel mills (Ajaokuta steel has been re-invented), Plastic industries along Agbara Ogun State, Railways, Automobile factories of Stallione groups among others, Pharmaceutical Companies in Nigeria now certified by WHO to produce drugs that can be sold in the international Market and many more) One thing is sure, we are so far from where we started in 1999. Nigeria is moving despite all the daunting challenges. |
lastmanstandn:Please how many pple are in Nigeria? Over 170 million, if 112.5 million is poor, is the difference up to 40 Million? The answer is Yes and she can be correct. Nigeria is at war and all we are seeing in terms of infrastructure is still happening. I just wish we just sit down and do a stock of Nigeria in 2011 and now. In the Negative aspect, we have some crop of guys willing to kill every Nigerian and the security architecture existing today is capable of scaring the citizen to submission but BH are ready to die in the first place. We need a security set up that can identify, target and take out a terrorist/Criminal without harming the law abiding citizens. To make matter worse, the US has decided to decline arms request because they got a report that our Soldiers abuse human rights without inquiry to confirm same. Secondly is corruption. We had issues where someone sat on Police Pensions and the courts practically pacified him, guys pulling runs to defraud Nigeria through subsidy and our lawyers have been frustrating the processes. A minister bought cars cos NASS approved MTEF and case is still in the courts to get interpretation of the Minister's action. The former CBN governor rushed to point fingers that about 50B USD is missing and later agreed it is 10B UsD (till date the PWC is doing the reconciliation cos Kano Emir thinks some funds are meant for Federation account and not where they were moved to), we have a minister who NNPC foots her bills for all travels but the House of Reps thinks it is bogus and such she must go. Infact they are working at instituting a law that gives power to the NASS to appoint the Auditor General directly (all because they want to be the legislator and executive at the same time) On the positive note, three banks who should have been closed were saved under the most efficient Nationalization ever happened in the world (Keystone, Enterprise and Mainstreet) Road construction improved to the extent that transport fares crashed, Nigeria built the first Ship, Standard Gauge rail lines surfaced in Nigeria, the Airports get remodelled, Nigeria reduced rice imports drastically and intensified Agric revolution, Auto policy led to car assembly plants in Nigeria, Nigeria now exports Cements, Ajaokuta Steel is back, Nigeria Pharmaceutical companies now have licenses to produce drugs that can be sold in the world market and many more ALL in 3 years (I said 3 yrs cos after Yaradua's exit, it was elections) I stay in Lagos for example and a review of revenues accruing to Lagos as against government investments and participation, it is a far cry. No road in Lagos can stay 2 yrs straight without patches all over maybe because the coal tar is quite lean (has anyone seen the width of the Ibadan - Ilorin road?), all we keep paying is taxes, fines and fees. Has anyone move close to Alausa to perfect a document? You will be shocked. My submission, if only every state government can be tasked to ensure the standard we want to see in nigeria, it will affect the Federal government. We are looking too much at the FG while we simply keep mum at the rotteness happening in our states. https://www.nairaland.com/828872/facts-lekki-toll-tinubu-connection |

A lot of Nigerians in Abuja drive his type of car without Escort. When he is not Funsho Williams, he is as secured as any citizen of Nigeria. As a Funso Williams in some Climes? Wahala dey |
OP, Pls change this Misleading Topic after reading the Post again. Note, the 10 Billion USD is for Global Cocoa export. For me, I think it is noble to localize the Chocolate Industries for local consumption and export. There is just a lot of opportunity for private sector in the Agriculutural Sector of this country but even most of the industrialists that should have improved this sector is busy jostling for Government houses. Let's create the jobs and Nigeria will be a great place for all of us. GOVT cannot provide all the Jobs we need. |
We have 170M nigerians which included the Non-Skilled, Semi-Skilled and Skilled. If the minister has provided job for the Non-Skilled and Semi-skilled, they are still jobs. Many of Nigerians wish the days of boom in the banking and Communication sector will return but they are near saturation. Let's embrace the newer sectors (Agriculture, Transport and Power) and we will bring back a place for all of us to prosper. Security is a problem but our scientist and Universities are not thinking along the line of shelling terrorist in a way that simply deactivate them for 6 or 8hrs till Soldiers comb them. Opportunities all over but we wait for Govt till we move. The private sector includes your biz of 100k and a million of such will assist about 20 million pple but many of us want to make 1 billion in a year forgetting a warren buffet and the likes started small and became BIG cos of consistency. |
If Speakership is by Pix on Website, one hacker will be a Speaker in 15 minutes. Why are we this Petty? Gosh! |
profjustine458:In the Case of Atiku, the court has given verdict as per defection of an executive holder (just because the constitution was silent about it) In the case at hand, only the 37 lawmakers are in court to prevent the house leadership from declaring their seats vacant. The top lawyers should have asked the courts for interpretation of Section 68 of the constitution and that will cover all Lawmakers until the constitution is ammended to clarify what it meant by Crises or division and the like. In my opinion, PDP is right to state that Tambuwal has lost his seat for defecting when a court has ruled that PDP is not divided. If members who are not holding elective posts join other parties, they have simply expressed their right to association. Others with the mandate of the party cannot defect until they serve their term because a ticket belongs to the party (in the case of Amaechi) and not the individual. I would have advised Tambuwal to have gone to the court or through any known lawyer for the interpretation of Section 68 with request for accelerated hearing. The way the current case is going, it might not be decided till end of this tenure or even beyond. We are all waiting! In every national life, there are situations that will warrant the current Lacuna and it is for Political actor to learn and move on. |
masamari:And those societies started 6 years ago? I am glad we are looking at sane societies here and they are very particular at the process towards an end. How many roads have been added, what is the current step towards building a non-oil sector, with privatization of the power sector the sector can only get better and some other strides. Are there issues, the answer is Yes and our approach should be collaborative cos no govt can fix a country in 4 yrs (except there is an example one need to be notified for read up) |
We only need the last audit report on many Nairalanders' department to see if they measure up in that small unit they work or not. In Nigeria, it took the President to resolve NFF, ASUU, ASUP, JOHESU, NMA, NARD and many more. Our society does not enhance governance at the centre at all. The President is one man and until pple do what they have power to do by law without further approval, we won't move. What Dora did was very simple and when Baba found out it helped his course, he looked away. When some other ministers try it and it ll affect OBJ's interest, he moves against them. |
Let Tambuwal proof that PDP is in Crises at this moment to warrant his defection. The cases in court were to stop the seats of those 37 members declared as vacant because they felt they left at the time because of a crises. There is no Crisis except where the leadership of the party goes separate ways and this has not happened. The seat is vacant at the moment and a non-member of the house cannot be a speaker. Tambuwal should go to court and proof that PDP in his home state has splitted or in a major crises. Or proof that PDP as a party at the centre is now in crisis. He should also request an accelerated hearing. The law that talks of 2/3 to remove speaker also state that a member looses his seat if he decamp where there is no factioning or merger of his party to another. |
patimore:Do those Reps have guaranteed security detail by constitution? They have one Police on recognition basis and Tambuwal will still have access to that but not the type of security details he enjoyed. Like I advised earlier, the APC should go to court to challenge this on behalf of Tambuwal. He got that Job because he belongs first to the Majority party. If not, Gbajabiamila would have contested and friends of Tambuwal would have voted for him. '16 must not preside over 19' because many of us argued that during the NGF issue |
Iamdagreatguy:The constitution is silent about the Executive's defection. The courts will surely have to interprete this and APC might be the first to take the step. |
focus7:This is 16 presiding over 19 for all I care. This is a case of minority presiding over a majority in terms of number. For me, the court case should be instituted and accelerated hearing requested. This has to be determined to ensure we don't create a laughable scenario. This is like Democrat turning the Speaker of a filled republican house. The Reps in the following states (by mind and body are PDP) are looking to return and defecting becomes almost out of the option. Abia Enugu Ebonyi Anambra Imo Bayelsa Cross River Akwa Ibom Rivers (Part) Edo (Part) Ogun (Part) Oyo (part) Ondo Kogi Kwara (Part) Benue Plateau Jigawa Katsina (Part) Kano (Part) Borno (Part) Yobe (Part) Gombe (Part) Bauchi Kaduna (Part) FCT Kebbi Sokoto (Part) Niger A Tambuwal on seat, a Gbajabiamila will do more than 'Political Jabbing' than he did to Leo Ogor (calling the latter the Minority Leader). A once vibrant house might become a deserted point. |
Is this not 16 presiding over 19? We copied this Presidential system from the USA and this is like saying the democrat should preside over the majority Republicans in the House. I thought the Lawyers should be looking at blocking this loophole because this means trouble will keep brewing anytime APC wish to sponsor any motion through the Speaker. How will Tambuwal trust the Deputy now ![]() Nigeria is ALWAYS First |
Ovamboland:Are we saying GEJ won't win in the following states? Ekiti Ondo Kogi FCT Nasarawa Benue Adamawa Jigawa Niger Delta Bayelsa Rivers C/Rivers Gombe Bauchi Kaduna Plateau Kebbi Enugu Abia Imo Ebonyi Anambra He will pick the required 25 percent in the following states if not a win Lagos Oyo Ogun Osun Katsina Sokoto Zamfara Borno Yobe Edo Kwara Kano It is still a long way to Elections and the wait will soon be over. |
adisasegun:Discuss with facts, not abuses. Nice week Bro |
During the military era of IBB, was Mariam's influence not profound? During OBJ, Stella's influence was so overbearing and many pple got her endorsement before anything could happen. It is wrong to state that PEJ is the first in the history of Nigeria. Is this attitude right? The answer is no but our media houses must be seen to put out the FULL correct details in news per time. I am not surprised to see this coming from The nations newspaper and her counterpart (PUNCH) might still carry it as headlines tomorrow. The seed of discord is been sown already. The strategy to cause maximum damage to PDP and they better watch it or else members will be sent to war against each other from the pages of newspaper. The APC governor's excesses are never brought forward cos they own the major media houses. How was 3.3Bn govt house of Fayemi not covered and reported? How was 600M bullet proof Jeeps of Fashola not adequately covered? Where are the 40 suit cases Buhari allowed into the country during his tenure without explanation and many more... |
Sunnycliff:In Nigeria of today, before proven innocent, you are already convicted. Pistorius case says it all. In the minds of some pple, Pistorius should be killed without trials. How many of us study the judgement and not summarized report of a Journalist to achieve a predetermined result. Let the case be on merit and not media propaganda which occurs in our Public Hearings. |
Arch1: Shut it !Don't be deceived by reporters who seat in Lagos and write a script about Ekiti. If you have friends in Ekiti, ask questions to have facts of the matter. Yesterday, Fayose decided to be in the court for the case involving him. Ekiti pple kept joining his Motor cade on the way to the courts On getting to the court, over 10000 pple have gathered He was cheered by the crowd as he approach the court Premises The crowd kept on the Pushing here and there They were so much that the Police in the Court Premises could not stop them The Cheif Judge (known to be one of the Supporters of E11 currently challenging the eligibility of Fayose) approached Fayose to talk to his supporters and was raising voice to pass that accross. The crowd shouted that He (Fayose) should not be intimidated and with some songs following. One of the Judges tried to do the Crowd control himself and a supporter (I will define as overzealous) stretched to challenge the Judge Security tried to stop that overzealous supporter and everything led to Fracas Information (that Fayose was going to be Molested and all that) within the crowd sparked outrage and the rest is history. Fayose is someone that cannot show up and crowd won't follow For me, the Governor Elect should close ranks with the Judiciary, E11 should provide the court ruling that indicted Fayose during the Kangaroo impeachment that led to NJC suspending Justice Jide Aladejana who sworn in the Deputy governor then, Ekiti pple wait for Fayemi to serve out his term and report the Judge acclaimed to have collected bribe on the Eligibility case for proper action by NJC |
UpLoyo: How is it then your fault? Because only 1diots like you will conduct a $9.5m business in such a way and carry such an amount in cash. I bet in your line of business you've never heard of wire transfer right? What if the plane had crashed? So you were willing to risk that? You've only proven you are nothing but a low life, scumbag, a thief that didn't realize any amount over $10,000 has to be declared. Have I answered your question yet?It is obvious you did not read my post because you have a fixed judgement. Again, if Naija govt gives Julius berger a contract and JB decide to buy the rods from Ghana by carrying all the funds Naija govt credited him by plane. Will you ask Nigerian govt to explain or not? Pls read that post again and check again. No need for name calling my guy |
Nigerians, This case is just as follows; I gave a contract to one company and paid for the products he will deliver. The company contacted his partner somewhere else to procure my products. He decided to travel to the supplier with the Money I paid in cash. He was caught for not declaring the money, how then is it my fault? Let the Israeli security company sort itself out with South African authourities and supply our order. You can read the post where Premium Times copied from the below. http://africajournalismtheworld.com/2014/09/16/south-africa-seizes-nine-million-dollars-linked-to-nigerian-arms-purchase/ |
ISpiksDaTroof: This is a bloody lie from the pit of hell, and today I promise you this: GOODLUCK EBERE JONATHAN WILL NOT BE PRESIDENT COME FEBRUARY 15, 2015! Neither State nor Justice (Depts.) has Nigeria blacklisted from legal Arms purchases. What we have been against from jump were the illegalities involved in their procurement and transactions. To blame the United States for this scandal is to admit what we have thought all along: THIS CORRUPT NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT HAS A HAND IN THE INSURGENCY AND HAS A LOT TO ANSWER!!!Have you confirmed this claim by El-Rufai associate online media outfit? In my Opinion, All of these lies are part of the grand Support for BH and send targetted at sending fear down the Spines of Nigerians. If Premium times wont give details of response by American Embassy, then they have failed to move ME an inch in their KALUS bid to do their Masters' job |
Gov Owelle visits ABJ every week and a Federal Contractor have this outstanding and he is issuing a press release like number 1Mth citizen of Imo. This is the Pettiness I keep talking about these APC guys. |
Where did Ambassador Wali mentioned 600 delegates? Pls someone should highlight it. It is the largest and should not be discouraged but 25 - 50 can be large for Ambassador. |
Gbawe: This is what has gained GEJ uniform condemnation from virtually all his peers worldwide while his brainwashed fans talk and attack everyone, including a mere journalist like Isha Sesay, as if the world is deliberately against their oga. Even as this allegation is not verified, I would not be surprised if this turns out to be true because many unprecedented and terrible developments, such as that claimed here, are the outcome of the kind of callous self-servitude and corruption GEJ is working with even the worst despot like Abacha did not display.Pls substantiate your claims your mouth remain Shut till Eternity. If SSS pick you and request you give details of those who looted 18B USD, hope you will be able to give facts? If IBB, Abacha, OBJ has continually serviced Naija weaponry, we will be near up to date. The first set of renewals came under this government. Some are of the opinion some forces want is the return of Naija armoury to the North so that BH can seize it for final full scale war and I am sure this won't happen. The govt bought some weapons recently from the US and Russia which is been transfered to our Armed forces at the moment. It is so funny that most of our Army signed up to earn a living rather than standing to be counted for Naija's Territorial integrity. |
has the court declared his seat vacant
