PoliticsRe: Blame Jonathan For Nigeria’s Woes – Obasanjo by PEREP: 4:35pm On Feb 02, 2013
earthgreeners: He created which mess?...can you tell me one problem wey GEJ don solve?..abi GEJ sef dey complicate the mess...adding more mess to the already existing mess

GEJ is full of sh...it
Pls tell us how he is complicating the issue.
By refusing to level the whole of North through a military action?
By refusing to dialogue with the BH sect?
By falling back on Ex-Presidents to assist in tackling the situation?

Pls educate us with clear details of how he is complicating the matter.

The mess on ground is a fall out of Obj and other leader's inability to build a strong foundation for our well being as Nigerians. We have lived along ethnic lines since Almagamation and leaders before Jonathan did little to create a united country.

If our security architecture has been very sound, will BH ever have been able to operate easily? If our Educational system has been profound, I am sure we won't be at this stage.
IBB, OBJ and all the leaders saw the population explosion but never positioned the country to withstand it.
GEJ has his own shortcoming but he is only working to fix part of the issues and he has my backing full time.
PoliticsRe: How Will You Rate Jonathan's Interview With Amanpour? by PEREP: 9:23am On Jan 24, 2013
lacasa: Summary of the brief Q&a:

Q) On extra-judicial killings, high-handedness driving more ppeople to Boko-haram... - U.S State dept

GEJ: it's not true

Q) On Corruption, lack of Power and basic amenities still unavailable to most nigerians? - Amanpour

GEJ; the chain has to be repaired before the bulb can light

Q) On Oil theft, excessive state funds stolen, even your Finance Minister admitted to Billions stolen,Crude-oi l shipped out illegally in your government? - amanpour

GEJ: the international community has to help us stop this stolen crude taken abroad, countries must work with us to stop this trend

My personal evaluation:

To be frank, having a 'Dr' tied to your name does not ensure one to be an exposed Intellectual anymore.

#God help his people sha, cos na one chance we don enter so.
Your report of the interview here shows why Nigeria is not getting it right because you either intentionally give your own answers and put GEJ there or you are not good at 'Summary' in school.
For example, he confirmed that oil theft is still there and he is working to reduce it. Also, the crude is not refined in Nigeria and as such the international community must stand up against what is wrong by making it impossible for stolen crudes to be refined or allowed into their countries.
On the issue of power, he mentioned that even if the money to build power generating facility is available, the infrastrusture will not be ready immediately. You can check CNN for the full interview once again.

k2039: @Sincere 9gerian, people like you are more reason why we are in the mess we are in now, the issue on ground now is not about ACN, it's about the OP's post, ACN might have failed us but GEJ hasn't done any better(that's the issue on ground).

Let's not be blindfolded by party, our assessment should be based on their records, it's not about painting one party black to make the other look white. I agree that ACN has failed, PDP has failed.

Pls educate us about achievements and tell me feats have not been achieved in the area of transportation, power, agriculture, Education, Electoral reforms and most importantly roads within 2011 and now. If past governments have been this consistent about these sectors, Nigeria will be far ahead by now. I agree the security situation has been all time low but this shows the extent of weak security architect Jonathan met on ground. He has so far proved that levelling a place like Odi cannot work in parts of the north where violence is very high. In terms of politicking, he is not the best and that has affected a lot because we politicize everything in Nigeria.
I am more convinced ,Nigeria is on the path of greatness

jaw jaw: We don't need to know the efforts the government is making. WE NEED RESULTS. Simple.
Whether those bad things started 300 yrs ago by anoda govt. doesnt matter. What matters now is that under his watch things are not right.
He should correct them IMMEDIATELY! Thats what he is there for. No damn excuses please!
We need results without a process path to the Resultshuh Has the process started? The answer is yes
Can Jonathan jail without the courts? The answer is No
If the legal luminaries are serious and wish to match words with action, they should ensure personalities arraigned in courts don't go scot free.
OBJ handled the oil sector for 8 yrs with business as usual but a suppossedly 'weak' president came on board and despite his efforts to weaken the corrupt structure in the oil sector,we keep talking of results as if it will come from the blues. This is hard to comprehend honestly. Nigerians I hail thee oh.
PoliticsRe: N5tn Stolen Under Jonathan –Investigation by PEREP: 12:14pm On Nov 25, 2012
take dat: This revelations shouldn't come as a surprise to those who take an avid interest in this government and the maladministration that surrounds it. This country is nearer to bankruptcy because we are unfortunate to have a weak leader who makes a nuisance of his title as the C-In-C and his unable to curtail a monster in the name of crude oil theft to its barest minimum. I have always held the view that GEJ can never fight corruption because the stench that oozes out of his government, his political associates and economic team is corruption.

Waiting for the Villa Courtiers to invade this thread to tell us that Tinubu sponsored this article and El Rufai is the writer!
The issue is too simple for anyone to easily comprehend. The revelations of Nuhu Ribadu dates back to 2006 and I don't understand the basis for holding Jonathan for what happened before his tenure. While in office, he noted the subsidy fraud and decided to address it.
Like he said during the chat, he has been addressing the issues raised and will do more. If the Judiciary will not ensure Justice, how else should Jonathan do?
He arraigned three sons of the mighty and rather than applaud him and wait for the outcome of the courts, we keep calling names.

dounleedee: The position of the number one citizen in any country is delicate and should be unambiguous.
Whilst it is human to err, a president has to exercise caution and discretion in words and actions.
Some of you peeps can say, so what’s the big deal after all he corrected the misinformation.
The “Benghazigate” in America currently is not so much that American diplomats were killed in Libya, but the misinformation that came from the presidency’s source afterwards.
The question you guys should ask yourselves is “what about the damage already done?”
Can the president as the commander in chief of our armed forces ordered the army into war and then retracts to say he was misquoted? How many of you will say it doesn’t matter?
Our leaders are simply reckless, irresponsible and unaccountable to the people, period.
The contract is cancelled as at that moment to put things straight and this the President has made clear. It is different from outright revocation.

The kind of illness or ailment been blown out of proportion is different from having a 'rest' which is far from the insinuations that the first lady was admitted or going through surgery.

On Boko Haram, there are efforts to discuss and that has not translated to dialogue. If the leaders BH men thought will broker the deal for them back down, can we say there is a dialogue?

The President might not be the best in terms of public speaking but he has a clear plan to transform this country and if he is steady, it is better than all the charade of newspaper prosecutions we were used to.

All in all, I wish him the best in Power sector reforms, Port Operations reforms, Agricultural sector reforms, Aviation reforms, oil sector reforms, political space reforms and Educational reforms among other interventions been pursued by this govt.

The truth is that if Mimiko was to be in Lagos, he can only be a local govt chairman. All what he's doing his the work of local councils. Virtually everybody in Ondo state is a graduate but no good jobs only taxi drivers and okada riders. Funny enough, they love such lifestyle. If Ondo state continues like this, I can't wait to finish my program and run back to Lagos.
Run back to Lagos and pick one of the plum jobs Fashola is creatinghuh If you love yourself, better start off a new ground in Ondo and work towards feeding the whole of Ondo state with Yam, rice or even corn and see if you will not make millions.

Fashola in a Lagos where 98% are foreigners and have no time of challenging many of his Anti people policies. Land and properties is the oil of Lagos and you will be amazed the paltry target given to the company in charge of collecting the Land Use charge so that more money will be available for sharing.
It is in Lagos that Doctors will have a dispute with the govt and they will be sacked for requesting their right. I can't stop wondering whay they will do with the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Amosun in Ogun State with almost two years with promises upon promises

Osun state with a governor who decided to appoint Commissioners, HOS among others after 2 full years in office without a single bark from the House of Assembly.

Oyo state and Ekiti State governors speaking English and travelling all over the place.

Edo State governor have been seen to have a mind of his own and mostly define his path of thoughts on any national issue. He is from ACN but definately not of them.

It is in ACN a candidate will contest in a local government of Lagos in one election period and contest in another constituency just four years after. It is in ACN that Primaries are concluded within a man's compound and forced down the throats of members whether they like it or not. They produce consensus candidate all over. How many local governments or LCDA function in Lagos, Osun, Ogun, Oyo and Ekiti?

Salami's Saga still trail them till tomorrow.

How are they better?

Demdem: In order to make his good performance appear holistic, the president included in his speech that global corruption watchdog, Transparency International, has endorsed and praised his administration’s war against corruption.

A big fat lie. No such thing

To give his claims international credibility, the presidents then said: “In its latest report, Transparency International (TI) noted that Nigeria is the second most improved country in the effort to curb corruption.”

“Transparency International does not have a recent rating or report that places Nigeria as the second most improved country in the fight against corruption,” the group said in an email to this newspaper.
The group said its most recent indexing of Nigeria’s corruption activities was in the 2011 Corruption Perceptions Index, which measured perceived level of public sector corruption in the country.
In that index, Nigeria scored 2.4 on a scale where 0 means highly corrupt and 10 means very clean. It was ranked 143 out of 183 countries.
That rating was actually a dip in performance for Nigeria as the country was rated 134 out of 183 countries the previous year, 2010.
We are not comparing 2010 to 2011 but between 2001 and 2011. They are two different things. No one is saying improvement is not required but let's talk in terms of the report context which says corruption level is Nigeria is worse in 2001 than 2011.
Grammatically, the most recent report of TI happened in 2011 and it is correct to call it recent by all standards except there is a more recent report.
Let's get to work and make a better Nigeria. Just wondering if Albert Einsten waited for govt leap/grant/speeches before his marvelous discoveries. All of these have pre-occupied Nigerians because we have weaved most of our lives around the govt and wait for what will come from the centre before defining who we are.

Bottom line - Nigeria not yet improving, corruption wise.
Which fault are you talking about Mr TOO SMART?
This clarification is very simple and clear for a Primary School student to pick. Was there a 1.5 points increase between 2001 and 2011? If the answer is yes, then what is the hype about? Note, we all desire and demand an improvement but the report used here exists.

Jona keeps on amazing me and embarrassing himself and the whole Nigerian Nation and its political class, addressing an empty Assembly who left because its just like listening to a rogue . Tell me what concerns United Nations Assembly with Subsidy/ Oil revenues into a sovereign wealth fund and Issue of going to court with Governors for crying out loud these are international matters that does not concern United Nations . How can they listen to the Leader of a Rouge country that embezzle Multi Millions of Dollars and nobody goes to jail talking about Agriculture, education, job creation this is setting the United Nations back on the pressing Issues of the world. He should have addressed Bakassi and also return of our stolen debts for development in Foreign Banks as a way to boost Naija economy than tell the world that he intends to remove subsidy and increase the suffering of the masses in the name of Subsidy while Naija is an Oil giant in the world. I think the Educational Qualification of Jona should be verified along with his team of advisers who have sworn to remain clueless

Good to know the Nigeria govt is already thinking ahead if the below is executed as proposed.

The Federal Government has approved the sum of N1.3 billion for consultancy services on the feasibility studies of five fast rail lines across the country due for completion within seven months.

Briefing journalists after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by the Vice-President, Namadi Sambo, the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, said the proposed New Standard Gauge Railway Lines will create job opportunities for 51 Nigerian professionals and 115 non-professionals during execution.

The fast train lines, according to the Minister of Transport, Idris Umar, are: Lagos-Osogbo-Abuja (615km), which could be covered within three hours with five stops; Lagos-Shagamu-Benin (300km); Ajaokuta-Obajana-Abuja (533km); Zaria-Sokoto-Illela (520km) and Benin-Onitsha-Aba (500km).

This halfway measure is more fatal to Nigerians. It could have been better if they even allowed government to have their way and let's hold them into account for their promises.
Besides, retaining subsidy regime continues to give room for corruption in subsidy payments and stalling the growth of private refineries in Nigeria.
The subsidy regime also encourages the oil marketers to hold Nigeria to ransome. We are almost paying the dreaded pump price under the subsidy regime.
Sir, how does subsidy issue affect shortage in supply due a bad vandalized pipe. Work on the pipes are almost concluded and products will flow to the depots.

Lagos of today is characterized by citizens walking and living in an environment where you pay for almost everything (we will soon pay for air) and the road network expected to be on the laps of State government is so rugged that every trip on Lagos road send aches all around the body.

The government run enforcement units with targets expected to pay their salaries. Can't really imagine what will happen if Lagos have armed Police with targets to deliver revenue to the state government.

With Land use charge alone, Lagos rake in billions on a monthly basis not to talk of multiple taxation all over. There are many exploitative efforts by the Lagos State Government and yet we are talking of an investment friendly environment.

Lilprocess: National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu yesterday called for the scrapping of the Senate, saying that it is costly to maintain and that it only replicates functions of the House of Representatives.

Tinubu spoke at the 2012 annual conference and awards ceremony of Leadership Newspapers Group where he also called for laws to allow Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) appoint state electoral commissioners (RECs) for the sake of fairness and credibility of the electoral process.
He said “we have kept complaining about the cost of governance and the recurrent expenditure…but we have never examined the structural problems of even the constitution that we are operating.

“Why do we need two houses of National Assembly when House of Representatives represent smaller constituencies enough in the same number of population? Why not get rid of the Senate? To equip better and effective legislative activities, let us start examining that.”
The House of Representatives is the duplication because we have the state Assemblies whose sign offs are required for any change in the constitution which is pivotal to the running of the country. It is clear the opposition has taken over the current House of Representatives and as such dictate the tune. They act as if they are not part of Nigerian government (like imported legislatures who are not part of any Nigeria's problem as at today)

“We gave INEC power and authority to act on our behalf, to be an institution that will be transparent and independent and they are being funded directly from the source; from the allocation, first line charge, expenditure from our commonwealth,Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Why would we not allow the buck to stop on the desk of the INEC Chairman so that if he messes up, we have somebody to blame. Why would an INEC chairman not be able to appoint those in the branches in the states, RECis the representative of INEC in the state; why would they be appointed bythe president who is equally partisan, a member of political party who said they would rule Nigeria for 60 years. How would they not?

“If they are the ones appointing RECs, card carrying members of PDP, how would we have a reliable electoral system? Whether you have executive position or not, power is not served ala carte, it is not like a menu in Sheraton, you have to struggle for it. Let’s first of all straighten and strengthen the institution. We are ready as opposition to work together with any other party to wrestle power from this inept government.”
If ACN wins a state, then the REC is okay but if it is PDP then the REC is fraudulent. We need to rise above the mentality of Mr Tinubu - loyalty is to the one that facilitate appointment and not to the Nigerian Nation. With this mentality, we will be voting for who will be DG of SEC, FIRS and other agencies of government very soon. Did Dora Akunyili acted the script of Baba Obasanjo or that of Nigerians when she was appointed the DG of NAFDAC? Let's preach patriotism and shed all these suspicious way of living.

Stop following me around, saying the same nonsense. Stupid bigot. Is Tinubu the President of Nigeria? Dumbo.
Gbawe, he is not following you around but your posts on NL see the cup half empty and not half full.

GEJ have his faults but his commitments on some areas cannot be denied.

He has promised we will see more of his works by 2013 and waiting till then is not out of place as we believe in the project Nigeria.

The reality is that GEJ is not OBJ that bottled issues/pple up for 8 yrs thereby leading to the increased agitation by almost every part of the country at the same time.

He is working steadily towards improving electricity generation and distribution, He promised a people's constitution, He is reviving the railways, He is building a 2nd Niger Bridge, He is working to fix Lagos Ibadan Express way, he ensured free elections in Edo and all other states, He introduced 9 new universities, he approved the building of more airports in Nigeria to cater for the emerging needs, He is empowering youths through the Youwin programme, First locally built Naval Vessel under his watch, He is working towards having a diversified economy, the nationalization of three banks saved over 10000 jobs directly and gave hope to over 100000 dependants if not more, working towards helping out Air Nigeria and Aerocontractor, privatization of PHCN is ongoing and many more.
It is true he had issues with the security of the Northern part of the country, issues with communicating many of his policies to the masses, he increased fuel price on Jan 1st and many more shortcomings. He has retraced his steps on some of the issues and refined others.
He is a leader like anyone around the world with achievements and shortcomings. No two pple are the same.
