PoliticsRe: Rotimi Amaechi Has Been Suspended From PDP by PEREP: 1:37pm On May 27, 2013
naptu2: Unfortunately, this is where Nigerian heads of state usually make mistakes. I do not believe that Amaechi would have been much of a threat to GeJ if he was left alone. You lose a lot of support when you start witch hunting and victimising people, because even the people who are currently supporting you in public will think "I might be next". As head of state of Nigeria, you have awesome powers, but it's important to know when to use it and when not to use it.
Says who? Will ACN/CPC/ANPP fold their arms if Fashola spoke in favour of the State Of Emergency even when 'Liar' Mohammed stated the party's position on the issue? and for Fashola to press home his views decided to meet with the President and address the journalists thereafter.

Someone should watch the cross questioning of Madam Clinton after the Benghazi attack that killed a US Ambassador to understand what is called Party loyalty from the Democrats.

I expected Amaechi to have opted out before now if he feels the APC is better for him. I think this will be resolved at the end of the day and this was the reason the party suspended and not expelled him

Let's watch how events unfold.

PoliticsRe: Abati - Jonathan Didnt Miss Slot At AU 50th Anniversary by PEREP: 10:09am On May 27, 2013
icekenkey: This man has got to be kidding us. Nothing justifies GEJ's failure to deliver his speech (Nigeria's statement on the state of AU affairs and what the future holds.). Didn't he listen to the statements of hope delivered by other Presidents? Abbati's despicable attempt to justify GEJ's unfortunate and inexcusable conduct is irrational, and must be condemned rigorously and relentlessly by well-meaning Nigerians home and abroad. Instead of him to apologise to Nigerians or at least come up with a plausible excuse, Abbati is attempting to justify the unjustifiable. It's not going to wash with some of us - it is an exercise in futility. This guy should at least credit us with some intelligence. We are not fools - we can discern between good and bad. And, with respect, if GEJ will not get his act together at home, he should at least do so when he is abroad and stop embarrassing the country. He should take the patience and longsuffering of Nigerians to mean weakness. God bless Nigeria.

PoliticsRe: Jonathan Misses Speaking Slot At AU Gathering by PEREP: 8:43pm On May 25, 2013
Gbawe: What a nation !!! What a President !!!! Only Nigeria can host a President this negligently woeful in this day and age of charismatic, efficient and articulate Presidents/heads of State. Imagine a President so distracted with the scheming and machination to make his candidate chairman of the Governors forum in his Nation to the extent he disgracefully and amateurishly took his eyes away from his Presidential duty on the world stage?

GEJ, more or less, stuck a finger up at an AU address he was scheduled to deliver to the disgrace of Nigeria. When other Africans mock us about amateurish shoddiness we will be dancing around with fake indignation. Like I have said previously, Jonathan will be the last accidental President Nigeria has if there is a god above who realises that Nigeria has suffered and has been disgraced enough by crude and undeserving elements.
Gbawe, you believed this because it was framed up by a set of pple with very deep thinking like a mouse. Is it not SAHARA again? They will soon describe Mr President's Poo cos they are closer to him than his Clothes.. SMH

Nigeria's FG will run a budget of about $34b in 2013 and as such Bill gate worths more than Nigeria in terms of Dollar for Dollar.

About three of Bill Gate in Nigeria with good business sense like Aliko will turn around the employment deficit of Nigeria.

lekki international airport is under construction.our firm has an estate project in that area and am privy to progress there

eko atlantic city is under construction.you can access progress report on their website
Locomotive/not?
Lagos runs a budget of N499.105B which is about 10% of the total budget operated by the Federal Government and I think what is on ground is not commiserate with the massive fund. What is Lagos Government really doing for me? I pay my tax yet gutters cannot be maintained by the LCDAs, Many of the roads are patched every other week causing so much headache after every drive, I pay for my Waste Disposal, I pay heavily to send my kids to School (LASU today is not for the common man), Harassed by LASTMA for no cause so that they can meet their revenue target (imagine a revenue target for Police), Every ministry official expect a tip before any assistance, hardly will you get a vital info without paying for it (corruption everywhere), Multiple taxation everywhere and one cannot but pause to ask; how is this one better than the Federal Government?

So Amnesty came from Northerner abihuh Let's learn to put discuss objectively. The Leaders of South South brought Amnesty and Yaradua agreed to that term. Now, a Niger Deltan is the Number one man, where are the leaders in the North? Have they stood up to be counted? They are rather crying for 2015 while the whole region go into ruins for all they care.
Go and listen to the Interview granted by President Bush Jnr on the commemoration of September 11 anniversary in 2011. He gave details on what it means to be a War time President. That you are even seeing rail roads completed, Privatization of Power Sector among many other strides is a confirmation that GEJ is a Manager.

We are where we are today because the likes of IBB, OBJ and Co have for long used "power" to bottle up agitations in the country and it is simply bursting out and now been managed by a GEJ (no be easy thing)
PoliticsRe: Jonathan Plans Shipyard To Boost Maritime Sector by PEREP: 12:27pm On May 13, 2013
Dee60: When you read comments on NL sometimes you will be left with no option than to weep for Nigeria. Politicians are getting the better part of us now, by just TALKING about the dreams they had last night! We are told of one dream and people start jumping all over the place as if it had happened!

Where is the blueprint? Where will it be located? Which private sector? Where will they get the funds from? Is this a viable project in the first place?

We are forever being told of the foreign investors that are 'rushing' to Nigeria but we are yet to be told where their offices are and how many factories they have established to produce cars, furniture or even toothpicks! may be they are referring to Chinese 'investors' who come into Nigeria with Ten Thousand dollars and a pair of shorts and polo shirt but make enough rip-off to be able to repatriate One million dollars back to China after 2 years. Foreign investors indeed!

We are being fed with lies and grandiose dreams and people are dancing in the market, forgetting that they have not had light for 4 days and they dont even know where to find the next meal.

Soon, they will tell us to expect a mansion each in a new estate they plan to build on Atlantic Ocean!

What a pity? Until we learn to make our governments accountable, we will just be moving in circles.
I know of Massive investment by the Chinese in Rail, I know of multiple companies in Power generation, I know of the new plastic plant at Agbara (The biggest in Africa) and I know of the new plant for Steel rolling among many others.
Just look through the Nigerian economy and tell me where this government have not touched in the last two years. If all of these efforts are sustained which I am sure will be sustained, then we are closer than we started two years ago.
In my Opinion, Mr President is not the best of a POLITICIAN and for the first time we are having a President elected without an existing Dynasty by Family background or Militia Experience which made it a bit difficult to have the required support. He has few MIGHTY enemies and unfortunately we have allowed them to see ONLY His negative sides thereby blocking the immense Good/Potential of this government.

rolchi: You have a point here!
When was the last time you heard about Amaechi? They are reducing him by the day. All cases that were settled on a Paddy level are rising in Rivers and to think it will go soonest is a dream as at today. It is the Yoruba part of the country that will decide 2015.SE,SS and Middle belt will vote PDP while the Core North will be divided. SW is been taking over gently and subtly with the like of Fayose warming up in Ekiti, Oyo state pple not known for giving two terms and 45 yrs imprisonment saga among other issues in Osun, LP of Ondo will likely join PDP because of a Tinubu in APC and PDP might still have its way naturally. All this will be boosted if the Power generation issue is adequately fixed and Fayose win Ekiti for PDP among other factors.
PoliticsRe: World Bank Raises Nigeria's Economic Rating by PEREP: 2:00pm On May 08, 2013
PHIPEX: If we keep reducing poverty rate by that margin every year then by the next 10yrs poverty rate in the country will be very low. Although I believe the existing rate is currently below what is stated above.
Thank you very much for the deep thought. We are a people of result without a roadmap/process to it. If we have added 1000 MW of electricity every year since 1960, we would have been generating at least 50000 MW by now.

Honestly, this is the kind of cheering news I want to see about Nigeria. It is not by deploying troops on the streets without intelligently tracking all information used by the insurgents.
This is in place in most developed economies of the world to contain threats internally and even externally.

I beg you that google satellites can go a long way in tracking arms and ammunition movements within and around Nigeria without stress. All we need is to channel some resources to this and a lot will change within weeks.

I wish Nigeria all the BEST.
PoliticsRe: Jonathan Seeks Stiffer Penalties For Corrupt Officials by PEREP: 12:29pm On Apr 19, 2013
Dee60: Our leaders are not serious. Why do a law separate for pension thieves? What about oil subsidy thieves? What about 'egunjes' running into billions of dollars in the top corridors of power?

Very shallow thinking indeed. Very disappointing.
There is a law governing Pension Administration in Nigeria and if it will not address certain concerns, the President is at liberty to ensure such a law exist.

There is never a law world over that addresses CORRUPTION or any other heinous act. Let's applaud this move and wait for the Legislators to objectively handle the bill and get it passed.

Table Leg :
Even though your post above is not directed at me, but i am disappointed!

So you think making a statement about making a country ungovernable is enough to justify him as the major sponsor?

Or because he hasnt visited the victims of BH or made public statements, he is automatically the chief sponsor?

What have you done as an ordinary citizen, just like BUHARI to help fight BH? Please tell us!

I used to think you were very intelligent .... SMH!
The piece here said an Elder Statesman made unguarded statements and that does not warrat the kind of headline used by the Nairalander that posted this.
Okupe said the FG has worked to contain the unguarded statements and arresting Buhari is not the solution unfortunately. It for Nigerians who claimed to have been educated/read enough to read this piece to move away from reading or interpreting statements upside down.

PoliticsRe: Tinubu Backs Amnesty For Boko Haram by PEREP: 10:17am On Mar 21, 2013
2iic: Former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Thursday in Kano called for the granting of amnesty to Boko Haram militants, insisting that they are not ghosts as alleged by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Tinubu, the National Leader of Action Congress of Nigeria, who was in Kano to commiserate with the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, over the attack on him and his convoy recently, explained that the amnesty must be based on justice, particularly for those with no blood stains on their hands.

He however said those involved in criminal activities among them must be made to face justice.

He said, “For the innocent ones among them, there must be amnesty. We cannot fight a war in our own country against minor crimes and minor people. We would only end up multiplying these people by trying to use force against our own citizens.

“I therefore disagree with the President; they are not ghosts.

“Are those people in prison ghosts? If they are, why are prison officials looking after them? Are JTF operatives fighting ghosts, do they possess magic power to see ghosts?”

According to him, security challenges in the country could also be attributed to the duplication of ministries related to Police affairs, which he said, could render the Inspector General of Police, M.D. Abubakar, incapacitated in taking firm control of security in the country.

At the Emir’s palace, Tinubu condemned the attack on the royal father, describing it as unfortunate.

The Emir, thanked Tinubu for the visit, describing him as a visionary and purposeful leader in every aspect of life by showing good example to the ordinary people.

http://www.punchng.com/news/tinubu-backs-amnesty-for-boko-haram/
Tinubu needs to connect with the reality that foot soldiers is never the first target in a pardon case. If their Ogas like Shekau accept pardon, BH will be dead immediately. If some fot soldiers agree to a pardon, other foot soldiers who are not accepting the Amnesty will take them out in a matter of few weeks and fear will make some return.

The solution lies in cooperation of the Populace too sell them out and with intelligence gathering, they will feel unsecure among the pple and move to caves. Once they can move to caves, we can now apply the Operation blow their hideouts.

Kano, Borno, Yobe, Niger, Sokoto, Gombe, Adamawa, Bauchi and all these states should help with infos and I am sure the war is submountable. Remember, they boasted once that 'we live with the pple, they know us and they can not betray us because they know we are fighting a good cause'

Okontami: What is really the problem of our leaders (Our father's generation). They are so terrible. These are the people that enjoyed the Nigeria our fore fathers (Grand fathers) created. They enjoyed the benefits of free and fair environment. Good jobs immediately after university, food supplies and other things in the university, good economy with very strong Naira. Free scholarship abroad to study, free visas to the western countries. These our leaders destroyed what was given to them. They made life very hard for the children they gave birth to. They made every part of the world to look at us with ridicule because of the evil legacy of greed and stealing they have created. Its time for the leaders to change. Change need to start from them.
A success without a successor is a monumental failure. Our founding fathers worked to give generations after them 'fishes' but never thought them how to fish, fish and fish again.

As for me, I have seen improvement in my area and it is undisputable.
Moreover, GEJ NEVER said light is stable in Nigeria but that it has improved and Government is committed to further improvements before the end of the year.
