Otedola bridge is a downward slope made motorable by the overhead bridge. A lot of drivers underestimate how deep a slope they are driving through. Neck braking speed is sucidal on that bridge. You lose your radio FM signal when you drive through that spot. That should tell anyone reasonable enough that the length of that bridge is topologically abnormal. A google map search on that spot will reveal how deep in terms of elevation the length of the bridge is. |

Capnd143: I don't get it, it seems we are all missing the point here. They man in custody is clearly innocent. To put succinctly, he is an unwilling accomplice. The police should only try to get information from him regarding how the real suspect looks like. Someone who is from the North, clearly speaks only Hausa, drives okada, doesn't own a bank account clearly doesn't fit this profile. I'm sure that guy doesn't own a Facebook account talk less of a bitcoin wallet? Come-On! Where is our intelligence in this country. The police are clearly clueless as to how to investigate a bitcoin transaction. Even the CIA would find it extremely hard to pull this one off talk less of the NPF. Now his picture is already everywhere on the internet, wrongly tagged a kidnapper and our bloggers and media outlet are un-disappointingly stupid enough to spread such news. The NPF should be sued for such outrageously press release.
The innocent okada rider should be set free.
Modified: the mods should please rephrase the topic or take down the picture of the poor lad. This guy is clearly vindicated as not being the actual kidnapper by the police. Nairaland should not be aiding the spread of unverified and inauthentic news.
Cc: Lalasticala Seun Mynd44 OAM4J
From a southerner in defense of a Northerner #OneNigeria You don't get it. The police just rounded up the case. With bitcoin, the case just gone cold. The police know the guy is most likely innocent just ignorant but in court no such thing exists. The poor guy will take the fall and the culprits will definitely embark on another kidnap attempt. There are thousands of hungry Nigerians who will sell their sim out of ignorance. The police should be smart enough to know this. |

He also sees the obvious and frankl;y having followed the BH issue for 7 years here I'm now convinced while the West ,specifically France is secretly supplying them some state forces are happy with the status quo!
Look at this:
This should actually have been done at the beginning-that it hasn't til now means there's a hidden agenda and tbh,Naij Army Aviation may remain a dream on these pages, indefinitely,I'm sorry to say. Good you pointed this out. With the super camp strategy in place, one will expect that the army authourity will quickly follow up with the introduction of combat helos in these FOBs. The avaiation corp of the army needs to be fully equipped for this purpose. It could very well be the game changer in this war. The portuguese army in the CAR are deploying their air assets in support of ground troops to smoke out rebels. This has proven be an effective strategy. Heavily relying on the NAF is proving too costly of late. It is a no-brainer that this is the right direction to go. |

There is no attack in the Northeast that did not last over an hour before our Soldiers retreated or ran out of Ammo. From the soldiers account, Boko Haram swarmed the soldiers in large numbers. Doesn't that present a rare opportunity for NAF air asset to take out substantial numbers of the enemy? Except if of course both arms of the military dont share a common approach to winning this war. |

The Nigeria military that we have now is a far cry from what we had then. Since the advent if democracy, we have seen compromise upon comprises, all solidified by deep sense of secrecy. The present crop of military leadership leaves much to desire. Fencing our borders will solve nothing if we don't work on our internal security mechanism. |

mysticwarrior: if Nigeria can Carter for millions of Liberian refugees during and after the Liberian civil war Nigeria could also relocate those locals from the north east to Niger state which has vast land, by doing so it will cripple the activeness of Boko haram, these insurgents also forcefully recruit and conscripts the locals to become fighters. Boko Haram know a large number of people in the North East share the same ideology that they violently spread. The modus operandi of most religious terror groups is to glorify their exploits with the use of technology, especially social media. It worked in the middle east, i dont see how it will fail in this part of the world. The entire North is a fertile ground for recruitment for any terrorist with religious doctrine. Poverty is rife, Govt present is near zero, religious beliefs is more sacrosanct than economic survival. It is high time somebody in Abuja summons the courage and embark on a process of properly identifying everybody in the North East. If the country has to build a DNA database for that region alone, then so be it. The earlier we start thinking outside the box, the better the chances of ending the war as soon as possible. |

patwilly: The problem with this is the serious refugee /humanitarian crises the government will have on it's hands. Just imagine cramming some 4million people into an area the size of Abuja.. If we can afford to live with Boko Haram for ten years and the country is still standing, half a year of sacrifice to put this human catastrophe to an end is not going to be costly either. The way the crisis is lingering, we might as well wake up one day and incorporate these terrorists into our statehood. God forbid, though. But something just has to give |

Seal the borders with our neighbors. If they are serious about ending the war too, they can join us by helping to evacuate their citizens from towns bordering Nigeria. Nigeria should evacuate all of its citizens from major towns in bornu and relocate them to just three major town and maiduguri. Militancy exists only where people exists. They cant operate in a vaccum. Taliban, ISIS, Al-Qaeda etc They all thrive among the local populace
Move people out of these towns and let the military set the rule in just a month. Bornu is just one out of thirty-six states in Nigeria. |

Politics › Re: Why Nigeria Is Such A Terrible Country- Ian Kedem by persius555(m): 8:14am On Sep 23, 2019 |
Hamachi: I'm an Israeli living in Nigeria now for 5 years. I worked as an Agronomist on an agricultural project on Plateau State and now I'm working for an Israeli company in Ibadan.
I never planned to come to Nigeria because I always heard that it was a lawless country where everyone wants to dupe you.
It takes time to get used to living here. There is extreme poverty, yes. The infrastructure of the country is terrible, bad roads, no water supply, no electricity, corruption at every level. The security situation is deteriorating with armed robbery and kidnapping a frequent occurence. There are quite a few no go areas.
The politicians are only out to fill their own pockets and have no conscience or feel no obligation to serve the people who elected them. Tribalism and nepotism are rife in public life.
With all these challenges Nigeria has the potential to be a world leader because of their most important resource - the people.
If the government were to invest in their own people by starting new industrial and agricultural projects the country could prosper. Put money into the roads and railways.
The Nigerian people are hard working, industrious, willing to undergo hardships and intelligent. They are happy and outgoing. They love us Israelis, which is refreshing in these times of a rising tide of anti Semitism in other parts of the world.
There needs to be a political revolution of the sort there was in Ghana to stop the corruption and put the money where it's needed, to empower women and the young generation of Nigerians.
The security forces have to be purged and supported by their leaders. It's unacceptable when the police or army stop you on the road and demand money. Give the security forces all the support they need so they can regain their self respect.
It's sad when you see the potential of the country being wasted. The Nigerian people deserve a better leadership. https://www.quora.com/profile/Ian-Kedem-1 And who told you the Nigerian government does not invest in road and infrastructure? They do invest. Just that 60% goes into kickbacks and the little left is hardly enough to do a complete job. Governance is a privilege that a lot of Nigerians seek in order to empower their pockets at the expense of the infrastructure you talked about. The country is a quagmire of some sort. Dont blame the government alone, the citizens have a larger share of the blame. We are accomplices in this mess. Only a Nigerian will understand. |
