Mining the FOBs remains the most viable option against menacing AA BHT. 200 land mine covering the radius of all bases in the theater of war will deter intruders technicals. Another option is to dedicate more ISRs to track down these technicals and send in dedicated drones to destroy them.
Obviously, it just dawned on BH that the government wont pay for hostage release anymore. Signalling dearth of funds to continually prosecute this war. The only option they are left with is to embark on full scale attacks on military bases to plunder arms and ammunitions.
It is painful to see soldiers shot in those trenches they probably dug with their hands.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. |

rentAcock: Barbed wires don't deter thieves because they are never turned on. A Friend of mine has a customised drone armed with 2 pistols and a taser. His house has several motion sensors that are also solar powered, once motion is detected, the drone hovers around the house and it's on-board artificial intelligence chip from NVIDIA is smart enough to differentiate an animal from an object and a person. Once an unauthorized person is detected via facial recognition technology, it warns you to leave the premises, afterwards, my friend gets a live feed and has the option of shooting the intruder with a pistol or paralys them with a taser. Pretty cool stuff. Wake up from your slumber. |

olujastro: How can Nigeria get better when the followers, the so called future leaders, cannot even read properly and understand a simple news story
When we were working directly under the NNPC, our salaries were constant and we worked under good condition. “But when MRS Limited took over, there is no provision for even torch lights, raincoats and rain boots to enable us work properly. “All we want is our salaries paid; as well as going back to work directly under the NNPC and not MRS Limited,” Kaja said. The question you should ask is ''Why should NNPC allow employees of MRS Limited be the watchdog of such a critical national asset''? The fact that they were under direct payroll of the NNPC before the agency shifted the responsibility to a private company should be questioned. I might be wrong but all i see is a continum of NNPCs penchant to abandon its core responsibility. It has become a norm with NNPC. If it is part of their cost cutting measures, i believe the best thing to do is review this arrangement. We already have security issues to contend with as a country. How do you sleep knowing that those guarding critical assets of yours are been owed 22 months. |

Krak: This is one of the most intelligent and useful comments I have ever come across regarding this Boko Haram debacle. Yeah. Nailed it. Each time our soldiers mention BH making use of sophisticated weapons, they simply referred to the effective use of the technical AA trucks. Aside from the GPMGs and RPGs a few of the boko haram use in their numerous attacks, no other so-called sophisticated guns have been spotted with them. They have mastered the art of manouvering behind these technicals and the only way to effectively counter these is to have massive deployment of superior air machines like the MI-35s in large numbers. The ratio of 3 MI-35s to 1 A-Jet in close air support for ground troops will certainly help restore confidence. One of the costly implications of not developing a modern armed forces for donkey years is what we are witnessing as it is. |

jakeporeshenko: Exactly. In a sane world $35 million should mean nothing to the Nigerian economy, we should be able to purchase 25 of these helicopters or even the Mi-28 at a go in multi billion dollar contracts, but in Nigeria the military isn’t given that level of importance of priority. 25 orders per year in the next three years wouldn't be a bad idea. This piece of flying beast has proven to be a reliable asset in times most needed. We could adopt the MI-35M as the A-Jet of the NAF rotor asset. With 75 of this in our arsenal, our overzealous neighbors would have a rethink in attempting any tank invasion across our large expansive land border. Training of our airmen wont be a problem as there are lots of countries that are combat familiar with this machine. |

EricBloodAxe: I don't think it would cost $1bn to hire mercenaries who can get the job done. While planning long-term as you rightly put it, we need a solution that works and we need it right now. Once more, this government condemned the last one for making use of PMCs. They would have to swallow their pride and make this move. Honestly, i dont see this happening, rather the status quo would be maintained. This is why we should aqcuire these platforms in large numbers rather than in small piece meal. 20 of the MI-35M wont hurt our economy. Good luck to our servicemen on the war front. |

However it seems there is a 'cabal' that Pmb can't/wont fight for reasons unknown and that a Jibrin from Sudan Is impersonating the 'dead' buhari ( all these are baseless for there is no real evidence) Nigerians should put sentiments aside and decide what is good for Nigeria in the long run Should we wait for the previous govt to leave before things get better? Sizzorkay: Morals get dampened because these soldiers don't seems to have capable leaders. Pay these guys more money, have disciplined leaders in charge of units and give them the tools they need to get the job done, and of course reduce the duration of their deployment, Jeez, 4yrs? That's insane . Soldiers need to have breaks btw deployment. I still think the welfare of these soldiers aren't prioritized, and if you don't take care of them, what reason do they have to fight and die for people who don't give a damn about them? This is a time of war, and last thing any military formation need are soldiers who will simply lay down their arms and run and never to be heard from again, such soldiers should get life imprisonment, such actions aren't good for the overall well-being of the military. In combat, you need soldiers you can rely on, that's important, it's a matter of life and death. So to those that can't stand the heat, don't join in the first place ( We all know it's not an easy ask or Task, being a soldier). Nigeria has enough young men that will join and fight, but their welfare should be priority, above all else As for the political jargon that's been going on here, chill guys Let's pray that what happened to the Iraqi military does not happen. I'm for adequate welfare for soldiers at the battle front as it helps to boost troop morals. If there are senior officers found embezzling funds meant for such purpose, they should be systematically relieved of their post. That's the last thing we need right now. |
