NDA and all agitating group should sheath their swords and let peace reign. The stance of the US is absolutely neutral and commendable. The ND people have spoken, they want peace because its only when you have peace that you have development. |

omenka: @ Seun, Lalasticlala, Mynd44 and all who have the power to address issues and enforce Rules on this forum, we are grateful for all you've been doing to ensure sanity on this forum but a lot more needs to be done.
Some members of this forum were brought up to respect their neighbours' tradition, religion, opinions etc- forget the occasional taunts which you see as a result of incessant attacks and some people's desperate bid to bully one into accepting their ideas/opinions as superior to one's - we know our limits.
Nairaland has come to be a place where we get latest news regarding all sort of stuffs from politics to entertainment and as such attracts a host of people from all ages and all walks of life. I find it indescribably distasteful that one is allowed to bear such a moniker as ISLAMstinks on this forum!! This moniker in itself is a violation or Rule 2. Though a Christian, I take very strong exception to people insulting another man's religion be they Islam or any other religion for that matter. What good purpose exactly would such promote?? How do you expect Muslim visitors and members of this forum to feel seeing such a moniker knowing how much they revere their religion?? Why is something like this allowed to stand given how volatile things are out here today??
We know a horribly barbaric crime was recently committed by some animals in the name of Islam recently, and even in time past, just as we've have similar atrocities carried out by those who profess to be Christians, but that shouldn't be enough reason to brand the religion in such despicable manner.
The moniker was created just yesterday probably after one of the poster's handles was banned.
Seun, we have, you must agree, some abnormal persons on this forum, folks with serious emotional and mental issues, who have no idea the implications of the things they say here but if you grew up in the right environment, you'd know better. I therefore implore you, and anyone else who can, to prevail on the owner of the handle to review it in the interest of peace or have it taken down altogether. We have more than enough problems to last us a lifetime already- we don't need anyone adding fuel to the raging inferno.
Thanks you.
Ps: there are numerous comments on this thread that violate Rule 2 in that they are an outright insult to Muslims/Islam and should be treated accordingly. Rules are Rules and MUST be abided by and enforced. If a people can't observe the Rules of this forum, they should stop posting comments but simply read the stories and walk away. Thank you for this post. Some people are only good at abusing the freedom of speech that the internet offers. They spread hate like they are possesed with venoms. Mod should please caution the user with a derogatory username. It is unacceptable. I am a christain by faith but will not preach hate against any religion because it is not what jesus the messiah stood for. |

A simple solution that would discourage fulanis from travelling down south is to encourage locals to also go into cattle ranching. Send indigenes abroad, Argentina, spain, denmark, teaxs etc . I dont expect anyone to heed to this advice becos we africans are mentally lazy and are not practical humans. Just abuse and ranting with rage. |

What does Qos traffic shaping on router do? How is it done? I presume when you say subscribe to MTN or Glo you are talking broadband, I dont think whatsapp video is common in nigeria, skype is. I used this skype video call feature about two years ago with my former boss and wife. The technology is what a lot of international broadcast media use for their interviews. Qos shaping allows you alllocate as much bandwidth to a particular device on your shared network. Those two providers should be able to meet your need. |

If i may rhetorically ask ,What do we do to avert the eminent ?, How long shall this continue ?. OP wants you to take up arm and go after the next northern muslim you set your eyes on. This is the 21st century. Humanity is wiser. If there is a need to deal with a religious aggressor, i dont think i need to read a long epistle of what happened in the middle east centuries ago. Like we say, all man for himself. For all i care, the Turks, Armenia and whatever would gladly go after an african before descending on themselves. At the moment, Africa is a priority to us. The rest of the middle east can as well go at each other, who cares? Hitler never gave a hoot about us, Stalin never did. The British see us as an ally in the face of defeat. Africa is the future. The rest of the world can nuke each other, who cares. Any religion that threatens to carry out a religious cleansing in africa will get more than it can chew, because its going to be a long haul. |

I am not against true federalism. In fact i give it a 100% support but the issue of state corruption and lack of accountability is something we nigerians must not loss a site of. There is so much looting at the state level as it is at the federal level. Nigerians should support every effort aimed at fighting corruption at all level so that at the end of the day the local government executives and state governments dont constitute another economic plague. Our problem is multi faceted and demands a hollistic solution. The democracy we practise today is not the same as in the western world. Let us pray that the true federalism we long for will not turn out to be a bitter pill. A lot of institutions need to be in place for any form of system to work in nigeria. |
Politics › Re: The Opportunity Costs Of Militancy In The Niger Delta, An Exposé by persius555(m): 12:34pm On May 31, 2016 |
bejeiodus: Your write up made an interesting read. The Niger Delta crisis goes beyond your superficial attempt to explain it. There is a need to bring the people to the table and seek their thoughts on what should be done. The agitation didn't start with Ken Saro Wiwa like you wrongly pointed out, but with Isaac Adaka Boro who declared that part of Nigeria an independent nation in 1966. If a struggle has been on since 1966 and it is not showing signs of abating, does that not tell us that it requires more than a military presence?
This country urgently needs to be restructured and the wealth of the people put in their own hands. A reworking of our federal system of government will do a lot to ease the tensions in the land.
I must admit that there has been a commercialisation of the struggle for pecuniary gains, so this government must go beyond enriching some few to the detriment of others. The people of the Niger Delta are only being fed crumbs of the food continuously cooked in their backyard, they really deserve a place at the dinner's table.
The current military action going on in the Niger Delta should be a stopgap measure. A successful victory should not make us lose sight of the need to treat the disease for the well being of the Niger Delta. bb I like the way you use the word "commercialised struggle" because that is what it has become. An avenue for whoever can cause the most devastating damage to get a blank cheque from the govt of the day. For how long will this continue. Personally, i am of the opinion that the ND struggle is the last hope of not just the region but every economically deprived nigerian on the streets in the country. An opportunity for every nigerian to call and question political office holders to account for what comes in and goes out of the coffers. If only every concerned niger delta citizen will approach the struggle from this perspective, there will be equitable sharing of the common wealth all at thefederal, state and local level. Many atimes, i have questioned why the indegenes have not at any time questioned governors in this regions about how resources are put to use. The usual lame and dodgy answer is "it is nobodys business to ask how the leaders in the region spend their allocation". We niger deltans must start asking our leaders to account for the little they have been given, only then can we ask for a higher share. There are enemies within and these enemies are the ones who have refused to answer the query of the people. |
