Nice write up in a long time. My regret for the ND was the death of the likes of Ken Saro Wiwa. These were the people who started the struggle but didnt live long enough to watch the struggle bear fruit. The struggle was hijacked by hoodlums who didnt approach the issues from a gentleman point of view. On the political front, the ND has equally been unlucky to have produced visionless and greedy political leaders who literally looted the little derivation the region gets. Politically, the region has produced leaders that care less about the sufferings of the people. The Niger Delta people are a peaceful, commited citizen who have sacrificed their life and land for the continous existence of nigeria. No other region has sacrificed more than the Niger Delta, but unfortunately we have produced the most selfish leaders in the entire country. Often times |
South africa has two commercial nuclear power plants that generate all together 1,800 MW of electricity(5% of its total power output). 80% of its power output is coal derived. As it stands, nuclear power is the cheapest and reliable source of energy. This explains why south africa ranks among the top world emmiters of carbon oxide. For a country like nigeria whose energy demand is yet to exceed 20,000MW, we might consider tapping into our coal reserves and other renewable source of energy. That is not to say nuclear energy is a no-no, but we have cheaper sources of energy that we are yet to explore. |
Why is it that these days every good thread is laced and hijacked by tribal hate. Cant you guys just give it a rest. This is the 21st century and the human race is in a race to conquer the universe while african youths have their minds stuck in unproductive and destructive arguments. God, save us from ourselves. |
Waiting for NDA to blow up this fantastic project too since bombing is the new source of joy for some people. GEJ gets the kudos for this one. |
If this incidents happened four years agos, oil price would have gone 50 percent higher. The impact is so negligible and that is an indication that the global economy isnt entirely dependent on fossil fuel anymore and moreover there are cheaper sources. The earlier we move away from depending on oil revenue the better. Maybe then we would have some decorum and lesser destructive agitations. Sometimes, i feel these bombings are a blessing in a way. |
The naked truth is that only a few indigenous companies are into active oil and gas production. Ol and gas exploration is expensive anywhere in the world. Majority of local players are into the lazy downstream sector where you import and you get paid subsidy. I know a couple of indegenous oil and gas exploration companies with headquaters in PH and lagos, put together they hardly produce 30,000 barrel of crude oil. The truth is just that the miultinationals have the cash, experience and wherewithal to explore and maximise profits than the local players. Imagine, it took ten big nigerian banks to be able to raise enough capital for an indegenous company to start the exploration and production of crude in some of the oil blocks that were auctioned by SPDC some years ago. Its good the DPR has come out with facts and figures. Whoever is interested in owning and developing oil blocks can very well do so if they have the wherewithal. As for me, the world has gone beyond oil. The crude oil we have is not even enough to service our huge economy. Its time we look beyond crude oil and develop other sectors of the economy for our own good. |
In nigeria, here are no business ethics, customer welfare is poor, standard is non existence, anyone gets away with anything so long as you can bribe govt officials. Its crazy insane in this country. |
Can somebody remind me how much the UK is repatraiting to nigeria as looted funds. I doubt its up to $200 million dollars. And to think we are to give out $575 million dollars capital flight. The west control our economy. Confirmed!!! |
Oil is really a curse. The first minute you think you have the whole world in your grasp, the minute your oil is worth nothing. Countries like japan, USA, India are working on consolidating their federation. Venezuela has over 200 billion barrel of oil reserves but it is still stuck in an economic mess as we speak. I wonder how a country of about 180 million population will continue to heap its hope on oil reserves that is less than 40 billion barrels. The black mind needs serious liberation. |
The inventor of this car is going somewhere while majority of bad belle who mock this thread are stuck on nairaland. Kudos to the inventor. Guys are really thinking deep. |
Its really annoying to see that a country of 180 million hardworking and enterprising citizens has been reduced to a oil dependent country. What happens when oil dries up in the nearest future? Food for thought. |
Finally, the people have spoken against the activities of this destructive group. For the so-called NDA group to get any meaningful response, they need the backing of the people of the Niger Delta. Every group in that region is dissociating itself from it because it has failed to carry the peoples agenda along. Whoever gives his or her support to this faceless group is nothing but a mischief maker who does not wish the Niger Delta people well. The people now know better. |
ojobabafemi:You make it look like crime fighting is a competition. The governor is just doing what he has been voted to do. |
Nuhu ribadu would habe been a viable PDP candidate, but PDPs public reputation is a dent on any personality. |
APCHaram:Somebody tell me demons have not invaded nairaland. If you made this comment in some part of america, you could be hunted down and made to vomit what you typed. You are a huge disgrace to your family and humanity. |
MVLOX:Many oil servicing companies are not doing well since crude oil price crash. |
goodlifehyd1:It amazes one to understand the mental mutation that a lot of nigerians have undergone. |
I just showed this to my 20 year old cousin and his reply was "The efcc official that reject the huge bribe is a fool". Now, let us tell ourselves the truth. How on earth do we expect to make nigeria a better place when we support and abet corrupt without remorse. The america and Europe that we all envy and crave for was not built with corruption but hardwork and honesty. Nigerians are nigeria's problem. God save this country from itself. |
googlepikins:Obviously, there is too much crude oil flowing through your bloodstream. You will need detoxication. Ogoni clean up is starting in june, make yourself available. |
All these over oil wealth. When the world is moving away from crude oil. It is the height of foolishness. I can not vouch for any republic seceding from nigeria. Yes, nigeria is not doing well, but seperating nigeria would only give birth to mini nations that are going to be divided by wanton bloodshed and violence. The UN is already overwhelmed by millions of refugees displaced by wars and atrocities. The last warri crisis is still very fresh in our memory. Nobody should preach a "Heaven on Earth" nigerdelta republic, middle belt republic, biafra republic to us. We know there are bottled up inter-tribal agitations within all the tribes that make up nigeria. Declaring unholy secession of nations is the last thing the african race needs. This group of isoko layabouts can shove this greedy, selfish, visionless agitation down their a$$. |
Op, you wey never use full blown3G before.
Keep fantasizing 5G. |
niggi4life:While some regions are doing everything possible to develop their region some criminals are bent on destroying the little they have because of politics. We africans have a lot to learn. |
They have hijacked the ND struggle. These guys are politically sponsored and they care less about the niger delta. Corruption is seriously fighting back. In the end, the will of the people will prevail. |
Fighting for tinubu's share of lagos. |
Ijaya123:I pray that the south easterners who support these foolish criminals will gladly support the destruction of public properties in the SE. At this rate, there will be no pipeline left in the niger delta six months from now. I guess this a redefinition of what development should be. More jobs would have been created for the indegenes, the environment will be conducive for fishing and the economy would be very bouyant then. Foolishness at its highest height. |
It is elites like seriake dickson that have been responsible for the economic backwardness of the region. For years, they hid this truth away from the people. Now that federal allocation has drastically reduced, he decides to raise an alarm. Would he have spoken out if federal allocation has not reduced? Your answer is as good as mine. Mr Dickson, please go and pay your workers first. #Nonsensetalk |
If only civil servants and politicians will replicate half the energy LASTMA dissipate in carrying out their overzealous assignment, this country will be a great place to live. Lastma dey set monthly set target. The hustle is real. #osusumustflow |
Every state should adopt this as a template. |
Are you high on wood gum? I happen to know a few female who periodically inject themselves. You ask for destruction of all infrastructures in the east, please start with the roof that covers your head and others will follow you. Nonsense!!!
|
VivianUdeogu:Are you high on explosive gum? I happen to know a few female who periodically inject themselves. You ask for destruction of all infrastructures in the east, please start with the roof that covers your head and others will follow you. Nonsense!!! |
labamo07:They have a purpose driven ICT policy in place. Leadership is also key to this development. |
frisky2good:And you call this a solution. You treat a symptom and leave the infection out. Too cosmetic, we need a long term solution. |
