Image123:Phew! Been holding my breath waiting for what scriptures you were going to bring up in support of the secret rapture thingy ![]() I'm just about to turn in now and can't respond to your post above. . . But can you please explain this - Image123:Thanks a bunch! ![]() |
MyJoe: ![]() nuclearboy:My bros. . in fact enh. . . ![]() Makes me wonder . . . the depths of biblical ignorance our so called MOGs have been operating in to have maintained their doctrine of good health for the believer based on this verse ![]() |
inedi:Oh dear. . . ![]() |
nuclearboy:Sounds like one of pastor christ's "rhema" ![]() |
nuclearboy:Accodring to Pastor JoeAgbaje, It was their choice ![]() |
cemehere:@cemehere, That was Elihu speaking, and not even Job. How does that translate to being God's word/position on the matter? Have you ever noticed that most people who served God throughout history DID NOT spend their days in (earthly/material) prosperity and their years in pleasures? |
yommyuk:I love this portion of scripture. I remember showing it to a Winners Pastor I was discussing these issues with about 4 years ago when he broke down weeping. When I asked him why, he said he'd NEVER seen this part of the bible before! |
And that is if many who call themselves Christians really understand the true essence of the entity called 'Christian'. Lately i have begun by asking questions like what does it mean to become a Christian. If Christianity was alabout making all the monies in life, building and living in the best and finest of houses and riding the sleekest of cars, then bill gates et al would have been called 'modern father of christianity'. I somehow believe these MOGs know what they are doing secretly. May God help his church
[takes a deep breath]. . . thanks for this post! ![]() Enigma:That will really be nice o! ![]() |
yommyuk:Corrected! Didn't notice that earlier ![]() |
eyzhvntsn:Na today. . . ![]() eyzhvntsn:Bang, bang, BANG on POINT!!! ![]() It's so so sad that people who profess to be Christians miss the whole point of Christ's mission! 23 And Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly, I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." 25 When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?" 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." - Matthew 19 Before Jesus, there were rich people. . . during his lifetime and ministry, there were rich people. . . from then till now (approximately 2000 years), there have been and still are rich folk in every generation. Many times, the methods, principles or even the particular line of trade or business can copied by poor people who may then become rich as a result. My point is, barring God's sovereign actions to prevent this, people can and always will be able to get rich or significantly increase their standard of living. But this one thing that's been elusive and impossible for man - salvation, righteousness etc. IMHO, was the main point of Jesus' mission. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our sins was God stepping in to the picture to work out something that otherwise would be IMPOSSIBLE for man to achieve by himself. As awkward, humbling (or humiliating) as it may sound to most of us (Christians) today, Jesus did not come to make our earthly lives more comfortable not to mention, one of luxury, or problem-free like our MOGs today would have us believe. ![]() Here's some verses that come to mind now which I think capture it well: . . . and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. Mat 1:21 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 |
Pastor AIO:Actually, they do count the cost o. . . only that of a different, watered down version of Christianity which in the real sense has no 'subscription' cost compared to the real thing. I mean, whats there to cost when the MOG first preaches to you about how much better your life will become when you sign up for Jesus?? ![]() Pastor AIO:Well, real objective, personal studying of the bible is not encouraged by our current crop of clergymen so the only 'appraisal' of Christianity they (the sheeple) usually have is the one fed to them by whatever MOG did the 'evangelizing' and won them over, which (to me) is virtually identical with a very persuasive sales pitch - 'you have everything to gain. . . and nothing to lose'. Ain't nothing mush to appraise in that ![]() And chances are that they'll NEVER see or hear such scriptures such as the one posted in the OP above. . . or the one below - For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake - Phil 1:29 |
InesQor:Seconded! ![]() Funny but this (IMHO) is actually the acid test for the genuineness of the gospel one has subscribed to, in a world awash with all forms of self-gratifying versions of the 'gospel' - if its something that focuses on having all your worldly ![]() And that's my problem with virtually all the big name ministers of our day who in effect teach that the believer ought to enjoy life on earth in all good health and earthly prosperity and anything to the contrary must be vehemently rejected. . . showing where (and how) their hearts really are ![]() Luckily for me, I hear stuff like this (the OP) all the time every week in church but pray that somehow, God would make it possible for others out there to hear his truth preached in sincerity like this ![]() |
Zikkyy:tehehehehe ![]() |
JeSoul:Hmm. . . I had PLENTY of similar experiences with cec pastors especially this one I talked about. I remember he told us one time that henceforth he no longer wanted anyone dropping N5, N10 or even N20 notes in the offering bags for him, except for little children. ![]() I'll just briefly mention one of such events I remember, maybe because this one brought tears to my eyes and I went weeping and praying about it all the way home after service that day. Now I don't remember what it was we were contributing money for this time (there was always something extra to contribute money towards, apart from the regular offerings/tithes and various partnership 'seeds'). But I do remember the pastor had instructed the moneys (na for him mouth I take know say 'money' get plural form ) be contributed cell by cell an brought to him by each cell's leader.Sometime after that on a Sunday service he got up on the altar and after the usual tongue lashing . . . The cell leaders came forward with a piece of paper (with the amount written on it) one by one and I don't remember him smiling or looking satisfied with amounts each of the cell leaders showed him. He kept hissing and spewing all manner of crap at them. Then he called a particular brother who was also a cell leader. This brother was married with one child at the time. He wasn't one of the very few "Haves" in church and was actually always looking poorly dressed, which I think reflected his financial state at the time. I'd noticed he kept running around church (quite a rowdy scene) trying to get his cell members to 'commit' and from the look on his face and his reluctance to go to the waiting pastor on the platform, I believe he didn't get a lot of positive responses. Finally, the pastor noticed he was left and ordered him to the platform. He quickly scribbled something on the piece of paper he had with him, walked over to the platform and handed it to the pastor. The pastor took one look at the amount on the piece of paper, shrieked, and THREW IT right AT HIM in full view of the entire church! The amount the brother pledged had been too embarrassing. And of course. . . the brother enjoyed an exclusive insult session while he bent to pick the piece of paper, ran back to his seat and wrote another amount which turned out to be more acceptable for the pastor. My eyes filled up with tears. I left that service wondering what had happened to Christian/brotherly love or what new revelation he (the pastor) must have been walking in to justify such an unchristian attitude. Obviously something greater than what scripture says: Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7 (RSV) |
MyJoe:And we got a befitting tongue lashing ![]() He then gave us "the opportunity" to do the right thing the following year at about the same time when Dec 7 was around the corner. He demanded the exact same amount. And got the exact same response. ![]() I left soon afterwards and wasn't around long enough to witness the next Dec 7 wahala ![]() |
MyJoe:That's the brand name for the yearly Dec 7 event marking Pastor Christ's birthday. Its an opportunity to outgive/outdo other cec plc members (as an individual) and other satellite churches and groups (if you're a church or group). Funny, but I remember now that this Dec 7 thingy was one of the straws that broke the camel's back for me back then. The satellite church I attended was a super broke one (till today ) despite all of our then pastor's efforts to get us to walk in this ever so elusive supernatural abundance. We just kept getting broker and broker ![]() I remember he stood up [in really great faith, I suppose] in church one year like that about a month to Oyaks' birthday and announced that all other churches had started mobilising their members to give big to the man of god and that he wanted us, as a church, to give something really big that'll surprise the other churches in the group. He then announced that he'd decided we contribute to the sum of N500,000 to give as a birthday gift to Oyaks. Jokes aside, my jaw hit the floor. ![]() I then looked around to see my fellow cec members who obviously were a struggling group, most of whom I could swear were probably having problems feeding properly, paying children's school fees etc. Couldn't stop wondering where even N50,000 could come from. Let alone N500,000! Needless to say, we never got anywhere close to the sum. |
KunleOshob:That's always the problem - objective verification of the claims to supernatural occurences is lacking. And they get offended and defensive when you demand this. ![]() Anyways, I won't be surprised if these 'miracles' were really happening there. I know from scriptures that miracle working doesn't validate anyone claiming to be Christ's minister. God's word rightly taught and handled does. And that's one thing these fellows so, so glaringly lack. Miracle or no miracle. |
Validation from a politician. . . how nice ![]() |
what a thread! and how did it get on the homepage sef, enh?? @OP. . . No be everytin wey our language get english equivalent o abi how would you translate this - "chooku chooku dey chook me"?? ![]() |
aletheia:@aletheia, Mmmm. . . Yes, we need to put this in proper perspective. But I think what KunleOshob was referring to was the ordinances/ceremonies, civil/ceremonial commandments in the law, like tithing. |
KunleOshob:Sir, I think they're well aware and even teach so. . . except when it comes to the issue of tithes and offerings, which they conveniently claim did not pass away with the law ![]() |
LagosShia:Oga mi, ![]() Jesus openly and clearly stated that God was/is his father. In Islam, the idea of Allah being a father to anyone (whether Jesus, Muhammad or disciples) is abhorred. Allah himself says he has no son and everybody else (disciples) are servants, not sons. In light of that, I have one simple question for you - do you still think that Allah and the God of the bible/Christianity are one and the same? |
Verse Number 1: Deuteronomy 18:18 "I will raise them up a prophet from among their brethren like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak unto them all that I command him." Oga OP, No offense intended o, but you remind me so much about my dear friend and all time favourite NL religion section poster - Abuzola ![]() He had this unbelievable talent to read the bible backwards and then confidently spew out really crazy assertions in his zeal to "expose" christianity. ![]() When I started reading your OP, I instinctively knew you would repeat the mistake of quoting Deut 18;18 as prophetic/biblical validation for the Prophet Muhammad. You say it speaks of someone from outside the Jewish nation, eh? Lemme take you back a few verses right there in chapter 18: 15 "The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brethren--him you shall heed-- take note he wasn't speaking to arabs here ![]() 16 just as you desired of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, 'Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, or see this great fire any more, lest I die.' 17 And the LORD said to me, 'They have rightly said all that they have spoken. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brethren; and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. How did you get the idea this could even be referring to a non-jew, let alone Muhammad centuries later? ![]() |
Joagbaje:You miss my point sir. If Jesus wasn't referring to a literal 100 fold returns in the here and now, then your "private interpretation" of the returns meaning or including wealth and riches in the here and now falls apart. Joagbaje:Any scriptural backing for this? ![]() Joagbaje:The second you guys see "rich" anywhere in scripture, you take it to mean earthly/financial/material wealth, eh? How about this one? 21 So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." Luke 12:21 Or this one: 17 For you say, I am rich , I have prospered, and I need nothing; not knowing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.18 Therefore I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, that you may be rich , and white garments to clothe you and to keep the shame of your unclothedness from being seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, that you may see.Rev 3:17-18 Surely, Jesus wasn't referring to worldy riches in these verses, no? |
Joagbaje:Oga JoeAgbaje, Howdy? ![]() I see you haven't learned any new tricks ![]() The lands and houses and mothers and fathers and etc. that Jesus mentioned above, did he mean believers who'd given up such for him would literally regain 100 mothers and lands in the here and now?? C'mon, uncle Joe! ![]() And err. . . How come Paul, Peter, James, John and the others didn't get their 100 fold returns for this life?? Doesn't this alone tell you something? Are those fellows not supposed to be the best Christian examples we have? ![]() I think it was aletheia who pointed you to this portion of scripture earlier: 3 ¶ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy we have been born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and to an inheritance which is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God's power are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 ¶ In this you rejoice, though now for a little while you may have to suffer various trials, 7 so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold which though perishable is tested by fire, may redound to praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1;3-7 Joagbaje:Care to share what ![]() |
Mudley313:Is this Mudley?? Or shay somebody don hack him password? |
Mudley313:You didn't read all that garbage up to the last paragraph, did you? ![]() |
