ENTROVERT: Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Tuesday, assured Nigerians that the Upper Chamber, will not delay the confirmation of ministerial nominees once the list has been forwarded to his office by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Saraki stated this when he received in his office, the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Denys Gaver, who paid him a courtesy visit.
He explained that the fact that the senate suspended plenary, will not disturb treatment of any communication from the president.
He said, “The suspension of plenary cannot disturb serious government business because we will resume plenary when there is any urgent matter of national importance.”
“Though the Senate is currently on break but we are working and we are ready to reconvene any time to attend to any national assignment, including the confirmation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominees.”
He also pledged that the National Assembly would constantly cooperate with the executive arm of government to accomplish the programmes of the administration.
The senate president said bills from the executive arm of government would be treated with dispatch, as part of efforts to support the president to effect the positive change expected from his administration by Nigerians.
The senate president told the French delegation that the Senate had started work already by setting up an 18-member committee to formulate a realistic and progressive Legislative Agenda, for the 8th Senate.
He explained that the agenda would address issues like poverty alleviation, law enforcement, national security, commercial disputes, eradication of corruption and investments in the Petroleum sector.
Saraki also pledged that the National Assembly will partner with the French National Assembly in the area of capacity building for legislators, and strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
He added that the bilateral relationship would also ensure that more French investments flow into Nigeria.
He specifically solicited the co-operation of the French government in tackling the security problems in the North-eastern part of Nigeria, particularly as Nigeria shares borders with French-speaking countries.
The French envoy, who described the leadership tussle at the National Assembly as part of democracy, solicited for cooperation between the National Assembly and the President Buhari-led executive arm of government.
Gaver, said the expectation of the international community on Nigeria is high.
He also called for cooperation between the private sector in Nigeria and its counterpart in France.
“On security, Gaver said France is encouraging her former colonies in West Africa to cooperate with Nigeria in the onslaught against the Boko Haram insurgency.

DaPhilosopher: Colonel Hamid Ibrahim Alli is a brave Kano Prince. He was a military governor of Kaduna state and a diehard IBB boy who is reputed to have made the statement “I can follow IBB to war blindfolded” to show how much he believed in IBB as a general. But that didn’t stop him from looking IBB in the face and telling him he was wrong on the case of the annulment of June 12 1993 elections.
He lost his commission because he refused to support the annulment of the June 12 election and Abacha’s takeover of government instead of handing over to MKO. Despite his famous dislike for MKO, whom he saw as an arrogant man, he insisted justice and fairplay must be done. He demanded MKO be sworn in even if he was a devil.
Rumour has it that he would have been killed if not because he was a blue blood. He left the Army and government unceremoniously, a simple man without money or scandal. According to reports, he is into poultry farming and still drives a 504 Peugeot.
Colonel Hamid Ibrahim Ali is currently undergoing SSS screening in preparation for his appointment.Immediately there were feelers that he will emerge the next EFCC Chairman, corrupt politicians have been on panic mode. Some have started refunding stolen funds.

Politics › Re: Sacking NNPC Board Is Just The Beginning: Femi Adesina by phabulux: 1:54am On Jun 29, 2015 |
emorse: Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser for Media and Publicity to President Buhari, spoke with SaharaTV about the first thirty days of Buhari’s administration and the future of the oil sector under President Buhari. Mr. Adesina categorically stated to SaharaTV that “it is within the President’s right to fire the board members of NNPC. That is just the beginning of the house cleansing he wants to do to clear the rot in the oil sector.” However, he did not provide any specific details or actions that President Buhari would take, including whether Buhari would personally lead the Oil Ministry as some rumors suggest. He urged the public to understand that “Nigerians gave President Buhari a mandate to rule for four years, so they should not complain in less than thirty days.” Mr. Adesina then added that President Buhari is not “a miracle worker.” When questioned about the transparency of President Buhari’s administration, Mr. Adesina said that Buhari “has taken the first step [to fixing the oil sector]. When you take a first step, you take others. Since that step wasn’t taken in secrecy, others will not be taken in secrecy.” Mr. Adesina also addressed reports from earlier this week that the Presidency would sell off some planes in the presidential fleet. He confirmed that no planes had been sold yet, but that “one thing we can be sure of is when those planes are sold, if they are being sold, it’s not going to be something that is done under the table or in secrecy. Everyone will know. If he has a plan to do it, it will be announced that he is going to do it.” Earlier this week it was announced that President Buhari, accompanied by Mr. Adesina, would be travelling to the United States to meet with President Obama and other top American officials. There is information available yet who else will be accompanying the President to those meetings.

Education › Re: Bad Condition Of Yabatech Students Sleeping In The Classroom(pics) by phabulux: 6:27am On Jun 26, 2015 |
Orikinla: Education has gone to the dogs in Nigeria. They are not educating our children. They are exploiting them. They neglected government schools so that their own private schools with attract more students. That is why almost all of them now have or are shareholders in private schools. The children of the poor are deprived of good education, but the children of the rich have good education in their private schools from nursery to university. Only few children of them can excel and succeed after suffering these horrible indignities in government schools. If you see the hostels of YABATECH and other government colleges, polytechnics and universities, you will vomit at first sight. These poor students live like dogs. The incompetent and corrupt administrators cannot even provide ordinary boreholes for regular water supply to the hostels with terrible toilets and they cannot provide simple solar panels for daily solar power to provide light for these thousands of poor students after collecting hundreds of thousands of naira from them. That is why majority of poor female students are forced into prostitution out of frustration and desperation, because they want escape from these horrible indignities in the hostels of government schools and do whatever they have to do to graduate and succeed in life to break out of the vicious circle of abject poverty. And unfortunately, instead of the church leaders to demand for the improvement of the quality of education and living condition for children of the poor in government schools, they prefer to exploit the bad situation by tasking the majority of their poor congregations to raise funds to build private schools which at the end the majority of their congregations cannot afford the high school fees for their poor children. So, the church leaders also build private schools for the children of the rich and not for the benefit of the children of the poor masses who they terrorise to pay their tithes from their meagre salaries that cannot even provide three square meals a day for a poor family. But the poor also make things worse for themselves by their foolishness to breed more children they cannot even feed well and suffer them gladly. These are the unfortunate children of the poor who end up in these neglected and badly managed government schools. The vicious circle of corruption and poverty will continue with terrible consequences of horrible tragedies of crimes, prostitution and intellectual backwardness in Africa's most populous country with the largest economy, but where the majority of the people are poor, because they are cheated, exploited and underpaid by the employers of labour and corrupt political leaders in government who evil and greedy title chasers and not nation builders. They are not fighting at the National Assembly for the sake of the poor masses, but for their own evil greed for power. This Nigerian nightmare is not our Nigerian Dream. Clap for yourself. You actually sat to type all this gibberish (I can't be convinced that you did it standing). May I ask you a question? Which school did you finish from? |
