lol, it seems Nchara is back in war mode today. ![]() |
Very interesting speech. |
Adejoro74: This is a mediocre association. It smacks of inferiority complex to have a black-only association of cardiologists in a country such as the USA. They dont have Association of White Cardiologists there. Let him go and compete in the general USA association of cardiologists, win, and let us praise him. Half-baked people.Well he was elected unanimously to head this (black) association because of his general acclaim as a cardiologist in New York. So he already competes favorably with the general population of USA cardiologists, it seems. Nothing "half-baked" about that. But I get your point about how it would be even more impressive if he were president of a totally national organization. However another Nigerian, Babatunde Ogunnaike, was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in the U.S. a few months ago, which is definitely impressive and praiseworthy. |
oturugo: Ekiti has lost it. Even Edo state is producing more than Ekiti now. It's true.Lol, Andre Uweh, how do you know "Ekiti has lost it"? Does anybody anywhere know how many professors they are producing now? And btw, you can't compare the number from Edo state w/ the number from Ekiti state for reasons of population. Anyway, I suspect that what was Edo state back then was producing more professors than several other places in Nigeria back then and now, but that just might be my bias talking. |
Congrats to him and his family. |
The "Ekiti produces a high(er) number of professors" claim does seem to have mirrored some element of reality at one time, though. I don't know how true it is now. G J Afolabi Ojo (geography/history) J.F. Ade Ajayi (history) Adegoke Olubummo (math) D. F. Ojo (physics) Sam Aluko (economics) Benjamin Osuntokun (neuroepidemiology) I think at one time they had a real head start on some other groups. Don't know about the proportion of professors to the general population compared to other groups of similar size though. In all likelihood, a few other ethnic sub-groups of similar size could probably list a similar number of professors back in the 60s and 70s as well. |
@ OP Let's not. Let them improve and then you won't have to ask anybody to hail them. |
This pastor is a nuisance. |
If Bariga is in Lagos, how are they supposed to join Delta state to escape the so-called "apartheid"? I don't see what posting pictures of a place in Lagos has to do with the argument that the supposedly oppressed Ilajes should be trying to join Delta state to receive better treatment. Maybe I'm missing something. |
lol @ Genegeria |
TisaBone: There is this man that I am extremely interested in. I respected him, because he was able to bring himself out of the gutter, and free himself from the bondage of crime and jail and has become a successful businessman. He has a lot of ambition and drive, which I love , as well as this magnetic power emanating from him. The attraction was definitely mutual.https://i.annihil.us/u/prod/marvel//universe3zx/images/thumb/9/90/Magneto_430.jpg/406px-Magneto_430.jpg |
I understand why Oshiomhole would be disappointed, but the move actually makes sense. Boko did threaten to directly bomb somewhere in the "south south" and they aren't afraid of attacking anywhere (schools, newspaper companies, embassies etc.). The Nigerian government is not handling the situation adequately, making the situation worse. |
This should serve as a reminder of what government should really be pouring all its energy into. |
kingoflag: This Just happened a few minutes ago. People have a misconception that in the U.S you can get away with calling people any kinds of names you wish. This hate crime speech stuff will stay limited to violence or other actual crimes (like harassment) not mere speech and arresting people for speaking offensively will never stick. At the very most they'll experiment with it for a while and then dump it once the appropriate court precedent rules it out as a crime. I don't think you comprehend just how dearly and jealously Americans guard their right to free speech and how much Americans value it and other principles held to be foundational to the USA. Free speech may be limited, but not as limited as you seem to think. You CAN get away with going on racist or anti-religious rants against a specific group. It simply isn't a crime in America as long as you don't commit a crime in addition to doing that. By the way, do you live in America or have you lived there? I ask because you seem to be approaching this from a theoretical perspective rather than from experience or what you've seen and heard and for whatever reason don't seem to think the USA is markedly different from Britain when it comes to freedom of speech and racism. For example, in the first link you posted earlier, where that Nigerian student and that Saudi student were attacked, the only reason why the guy who hurled racist taunts got 20 days is because his friend assaulted those two after he escalated the situation (the Nigerian and the Saudi had been arguing with him and his friend and there was taunting/insults going both ways, not just from the white guys) with his racially provocative comments. Had there been no assault on the Nigerian and the Saudi by his friend neither he nor his friend would have been arrested or spent even an hour in jail. That's the truth. |
kingoflag: Lol. Dude, of everything you stated up there the only one you're right about is that its not a crime to deny the Holocaust. If, however, it can be proven that you denigrated someone on account of their race (verbally or otherwise), you my friend, are going to jail. . . . HERE IN THE UNITED STATES. Hate speech is "accepted" (in the United States) to the extent that it doesn't lead to violence. However, there have been instances where all the convicted did was "speak", yet the laws were somehow used to gain a conviction and the courts looked the other way when the appeals process ruled around.Well there really are nothing like "racially aggravated disruption of public order" offenses in the U.S. Maybe you know of one or two instances that run contrary to this general practice, but in general, people can say whatever they want as long it isn't putting people's lives in direct/immediate danger or they aren't making death threats or engaging in violence. Whites can hurl racial insults, Blacks can hurl racial insults, Asians (ex. Jenny Hyun) can hurl racial insults, etc. It's a free-for-all. The American Nazi party still exists, etc. Freedom of speech trumps all. As for the UK bill of rights, thanks for the info. |
Gbawe: My brother, to tell you the truth, I am not entirely comfortable with the whole thing either. Act physically out of racial hatred of others, then you deserve jail pronto. I back that 100%Yeah, I understand the proactive approach now. It just seemed very strange and flawed to me, but the benefits may indeed outweigh the drawbacks for some countries. |
alj harem: Do you think Beaf is Isoko or Igbo ?Isoko. bittyend: Is beef not denigrating other people's lifestyle?I agree that the way Beaf is going about his argument/claim is insulting. The reason I commented was not because I "worship agama lizard as well". To the best of my knowledge Iguana reverence was/is limited to certain parts of Delta state and certain parts of Rivers state. But I do suspect that a few of my people's beliefs and many other groups' beliefs would probably look strange in modern times as well. I was just trying to inject some perspective into the thread about why the lizard worship should not be mocked viciously. |
Wow. Well, they seem to have a completely different perspective than the one I've come to see as normal. I do understand the motivation for those laws, but I would still be reluctant to enact such laws. Thanks for your comments coogar. |

back then and now, but that just might be my bias talking.
