elampiro: * Ronaldo was also anonymous in the UCL final. Does it take away all that he did through the season?
* Suarez doesn't score in big games. Does it mean he's not the world best top 9 at the moment? Suarez won nothing last season. He failed in the Calrling cup and F A cup. Suarez is overrated according to your logic.
Ronaldo is a certified big-game player. He has proven that time and time again. He has the longest scoring streak in the El-Classico, scored in two UCL finals and has single-handedly won trophies. So one off game doesn't mean anything.

Suarez is not a traditional centre-foward.Zlatan is the best 9 in the business. There isn't much difference in talent between those three. So what do you think separates him from Ronaldo and Messi? That big game temperament. That ability to stand up and counted when it matters most. It's a known fact Ibra goes missing in big games.

coogar: there's nothing impressive with this stat considering the fact that 13 of those 20 goals were scored via set-piece. that's a whooping 65% of his total goals.
6 goals - penalties
4 goals - direct freekicks
1 goals - crossed freekicks
2 goals - corner kicks.
I was coming to this.Yaya Toure relies on deadball scenarios for majority of his goals.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by pkasso(m): 11:52am On Aug 08, 2014
elampiro: * Why can't other midfielders score against lower teams to boost their stats?

* Toure was not exposed by Matic. You are wrong there. Something happened on the night, I think it has to do with one or two City midfielders missing the match due to injury.

On the return leg, what happened? City won. Toure ruled.

*** lest I forget. Yaya Toure is a UCL winner. Hope you know?
A player that only performs against weakling teams and chokes in big games is not worthy of the tag 'best midfielder in the world'.That was the case with CR7 until he stepped up.So Queen Yaya now needs his minions for him to perform in big games abi? City lost home and away to Chelsea in the league last season and Toure couldn't do anything about it.Even in the Carling Cup game City won, he was anonymous.Heck, Jerome Boateng has won the UCL AND the World Cup.Valdes has a world cup winner medal and has more UCL titles than Buffon and Neuer combined,so he must be better.Give it up for Elampiro logic!

Dhelake: And which big games have Vidal bossed, Against Bayern, Real Madrid? Galatasaray or when in particular?? He dominates silly teams in the serie A and he is the best in the world
Interesting coming from a Chelsea fan when Vidal scored, got injured in the process soldiered on and was the reason Juve came back from two goals down to draw in London. The only player better than Vidal on that night was Oscar. He then totally destroyed the then reigning European Champions with a man-of-the match performance in a 3-0 demolition in Turin. As for the games against Bayern, A40 and DK will tell you that game was keenly contested. It was bloody in midfield.Schweini, Vidal, Marchisio Martinez and Pirlo all jostling for the ball at the centre.Even Toni Kroos copped an injury that ended his season.Vidal was booked early in the game(suspended for the second leg) and couldn't influence the game as he would have liked.Vidal also scored against Real Madrid so i don't get your point.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by pkasso(m): 9:51am On Aug 08, 2014
elampiro: The best? Until he comes and goes thru our microscopic views and analysis. Lol

But in the world cup, I saw him always joining attack, ignoring his defensive duties.

I think Yaya Toure is the best midfielder now. I don't see how Vidal is any better than Fabregas.
Have you ever taken time to watch Vidal apart from a WC where he was barely 50% fit according to Sampaoli.Yaya Toure the best midfielder in the world? Lool, Don't make me laugh.Yaya Toure is nothing but a flat-track bully. He only dominates against lesser oppositions like the Fulhams, the Newcastles of this world and of course Man Utd.Go and check his stats and perfomances against the sides that finished in the top 5 in England. The same Yaya Toure that was owned by Nemanja Matic.Yaya was exposed all over Europe last season by the likes of Schweini, Lahm, Xavi, Iniesta. In the big games against Bayern and Barcelona, he was nowhere to be found.Great player, but until he steps up in the big matches, not the best.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by pkasso(m): 9:11am On Aug 08, 2014
The best players in the world have all suffered knee injuries at one point or the other in their career.Has that affected their market value or the demand for their services? Real Madrid is still chasing Radamel Falcao.I would give an arm and leg for Vidal but it's not up to me.It's Man Utd loss if this move falls through.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by pkasso(m): 8:54am On Aug 08, 2014
Here's a link on Arturo Vidal's injury history from Transfermarkt. .

http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arturo-vidal/verletzungen/spieler/37666

Since he moved to Juve in 2011, he has only been sidelined with injuries three times excluding the knee one.All minor injuries with recovery taking only about a week. Now does that look like the profile of an injury-prone player to you?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by pkasso(m): 8:35am On Aug 08, 2014
StarBoard: Agreed.
This one everybody is calling Vidal.
Spending 47mil on a player with a dodgy knee is questionable in my view, no matter how good he may be.
But that didn't stop you guys from splashing out the cash on RvP after one good season at Arsenal.Real Madrid spent a world-record fee on Gareth Bale despite his injury history.I don't even know why you people are saying Vidal is injury-prone.A knee injury doesn't suddenly make a player injury-prone.A few muscular problems here and there but he is as fit as hell. The man is a tank!

Nihilist: Vidal is hopelessly overrated....
Good player...but not worth the figures being reported.
Pogba is just as good, but younger and has better technique.
Vidal is just Lamborghini chassis with a V6 engine....a rich man's Gary Medel
Guy, make chic2pimp and co no hear am for your mouth outside o.Or have you forgetten how he r.aped your Chelsea side in London and Turin. This man sent you packing to the Europa League and yet you insult him by comparing him to Medel, the Chilean Phil Jones.

'El Guerrero' is the most complete midfielder in the world.Tackles, goals, assists, name it.He can also play at CB.Foreman aye.He is the ultimate box-to-box midfielder, a monster in the middle of the park.I've never seen him lose a midfield battle. This dude makes Yaya Toure look like a pu.55y.I would love to see him in the EPL.

If no be say Juve snatch am for our hand, the guy suppose dey ball with us now.Now that i think of it, a double-pivot of Vidal and Schweini *runs to grab vaseline

Pep is a great coach but i'm not a fan of him as a person. He can be arrogant and snobbish.I could be wrong though as i don't know him personally. But in this case, his reaction was totally justified. Those MLS guys were overzealous in their tackles.Porter could have calmed his boys down by saying "Hey guys, it's only a friendly, we don't want anybody getting hurt" but he didn't.It's only a few weeks to the season and you don't want your key players getting injured in a meaningless friendly. Those Americans can be so aggressive sha.For Heaven's sake it's Soccer not American Football or Rugby! If you see wetin those dreadlocked butchers Beckerman and Jones take Basti and Lahm eye see for World Cup ehn, you go pity dem.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Offical Bayern Munich Fan Thread: 6x Champions Of Europe by pkasso(m):
I don't get all this fuss about Martinez at CB.He played there a few times at Athletic Bilbao under Marcelo Bielsa. He has the positioning, aerial ability and anticipation required. His tackling and interception are decent.I think Guardiola sees him as similar to Busquets in terms of physique and skill-set.Busquets has also filled in at CB for Barcelona under Guardiola. The only problem i have with this is Pep abusing his versatility by playing him there on a regular basis.Martinez is a DMF and should only be played at CB when there is an emergency.Lahm, Martinez, Gotze, even Neuer.Pep is really taking this 'Total Football' thing too far.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Offical Bayern Munich Fan Thread: 6x Champions Of Europe by pkasso(m): 7:00pm On Aug 07, 2014
toba: According to Kicker's BuLi players who were world-class in first half of 2014:

Neuer, Hummels, Müller, Robben, Reus, Kroos, Lahm, Schweinsteiger

under the Intl class category are: Boateng, Ribery, Götze, Alaba, Höwedes, Rodriguez, Firmino, Thiago, Lewy, Mandzukic, KJH, Leno, TerStegen, Fährmann, Weidenfeller

I agree with them. Anyone wanna argue should start the debate now
No problems with the world-class category.Schweini's inclusion looks a bit dodgy, given he was plagued by injuries for most of last season but he had a great end to the season and a fantastic World Cup.Too many Gks in the int'l category, i would swap Weidenfeller and Ter Stegen for Mkhtaryan and De Bruyne.

A40: Lol pkasso still hating on the BOA-TANK trying to compare his role to Durm and Mustafi's i laugh in ebola

That PSG were phoolish enuff to pay such an ungodly amount for calamity Luiz doesn't mean he is not a crap defender infact they would be forever remembered for their folly

I'm not too happy with our transfer business this summer i still feel we could have used one more CB because nothing good can come out of Javi Martinez at CB. I only hope we don't suffer the ridiculous injury crisis we endured last season if we can achieve that we would compete and it would simply come down to Pep and how he sets out the team
Err. . i was actually referring to Frank LeBoeuf.Abeg let sleeping dogs lie.For once, i'm taking a break from bashing Boateng but be rest assured i will be here to critically analyse his every move(and Lord help him, error) when the season starts.Till then, my stance remains unchanged.Luiz >> Boateng.

The Reina signing makes sense to me.Starke is out for a while and if anything were to happen to Neuer, i wouldn't want us relying on young Lukas Raeder.Reina, while hardly world-class is a decent goalkeeper. It's a win-win situation for both parties.Back-up plan for Bayern and Reina gets paid relatively high wages(the same reason Napoli baulked at signing him permanently) for sitting on the bench.Just prepare yourselves for clangers and butterfinger moments when he gets to play grin

In other news, Germany are UEFA under-19 champions, beating Portugal 1-nil in the final on Thursday.Looks like the beginning of an era of domination by german football.Sadly no Bayern Munich player in the squad.Meyer and Werner also missing.Werder Bremen youngster Davie Selke scooped the golden boot and MVP award scoring 6 goals.Hope he doesn't turn out like Richard Sukuta-Pasu and Samed Yesil.Ones to watch out for include Joshua Kimmich, Hany Mukhtar and Julian Brandt.

I expect David Luiz to bounce back. He's a strong lad and just to add the only reason LeBoeuf started that final in '98 was because Laurent Blanc was suspended. He was a bench player.Sure Christoph Kramer also played in a world cup final.

This has got nothing to do with the EPL.David Luiz was a monster in the yellow shirt of Brazil until those two ill-fated games.I'm tired of flogging this Boateng issue.Anyone who wants a debate should take a look into the archives."David Luiz not a defender", tell that to PSG who paid 50 milla.Hate all you want, he is the most expensive defender in history!

Like i didn't know you were going to do this.World cup winning defender? Heck, even Durm and Mustafi have winner medals! LeBoeuf was a squad player at France '98. Judging by your logic, every word that comes out of the mouths of greats like Pele and Maradona is the scriptures. It's his opinion."The fact that Jose Mourinho put him in midfield is an indication he wasn't convinced about his defensive ability" Another case of versatility being abused.Mourinho would put 11 defenders on the pitch if it were possible.A coach that played all his DFs in a UCL semifinal tie at HOME.It's like saying Pep played Lahm at DMF because he wasn't convinced of his abilities going forward at RB.I never said David Luiz was flawless.I agree he can be quite frustrating to watch but i would rather have him than Boateng. It is a case of picking 'Bad' over 'Worst'.

toba: some news stories that i should have posted before i took ill

Bayern going 2-0 up and then to concede 2 pens to BMG. shows us that Rafinha & Martinez still are terrible defenders and Badstuber has a long way to go

The birthday boy did something bad on Sunday Here's a vid of Schweinsteiger singing "BVB, sons of whores" in a Munich bar http://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/bastian-schweinsteiger/beleidigt-dortmund-spieler-als-hurensoehne-36997138.bild.html
Schweini might have had one beer too many.At least he didn't go peeing around like Kevin Grosskreutz. He has since apologised and the BVB camp saw the humor in it, offering him singing lessons.Nothing than an harmless chant.
