Nigerian president Muhammadu buhari has lamented that about 40 million Nigerians are suffering from various degrees of mental illnesses.

Buhari said this at the sidelines of the world peace forum in.France .According.to the president this situation is worrisome and all hands must be on deck to reverse it.he
said: “In Nigeria, an estimated 20%–30% of our populations are believed to suffer from mental disorders. This is a very significant number considering Nigeria has an estimated population of over 200 million.
“Unfortunately, the attention given to mental health disorders in Nigeria is inadequate. The level of awareness of the Nigerian public on mental health issues is also understandably poor, and with lots of misconceptions.
“By 2020, it is estimated that common mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, and substance abuse-related disorders, will disable more people than complications arising from HIV/AIDS, heart disease, accidents, and wars combined! This is an astonishing statistic and possesses serious questions as to why mental health disorders are not given the needed attention that it currently receives.

Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr., caused quiet a stir in Hollywood after declaring himself to be a born-again Christian. He recently just released his first gospel album “Bible of Love.”

The album features a wide range of other gospel artists, including Fred Hammond, The Clark Sisters, Pastor John P. Kee and Marvin Sapp.

He first dropped the news of a gospel album during an interview with Beats 1 Radio, where he said “I’m working on a gospel album. I need to do it now.”

He added: “It’s always been on my heart. I just never got around to it because I always be doing gangsta business and doing this and doing that. But I just feel like it’s been on my heart too long.”

Many have been incredibly critical of the religious switch and his decision to put out a gospel album. In 2009 he announced that he had joined the Nation of Islam, then in 2012 he became a Rastafarian. Now, he claims to be a born-again Christian.

However this isn’t the first time that Snoop has talked about Christianity. In 2016 he posted a video on his Instagram account that featured him singing along to the gospel song “I’d Rather Have Jesus.”

His fans were thrilled to see him profess his faith in God. “With the platform you have, imagine how many people you will reach with the gospel message of Salvation! Come on now! Give our heavenly Father glory through your rap skills Snoop!” a fan wrote.

Snoop Dogg responded to his critics and those who doubted his conversion at the 33rd Annual Stellar Awards held in Las Vegas. After he performed at the gospel music event, he said “The devil is a liar. I thought the church was supposed to welcome sinners.”

“If the church was full of saints it wouldn’t be right. So, if you find someone trying to find their way back home, the natural thing to do is to be warm welcoming, open your arms and say ‘Brother, we accept you for who you are and what you’re going through. Come as you are. We know you’ve been doing wrong and you want to get right and we want to help you get right.'”

“We’re not gonna’ throw stones on you when you’re trying to get right and walking back into the church house. That’s what’s running people out the church right now as we speak.”

“The only negativity I get is when a question is asked, But I have never been confronted with anybody in the gospel world,” the rapper says.

At the end of the interview Snoop adds, “What about you? Have you checked your status? Are you going to heaven? Why are you judging me? How much have you done for the Lord?”

When you take a deeper dive into the album, you can find an impressive amount of Christian theology in his lyrics that show is journey through the faith. From beginning to end the album is a beautiful testimony from Snoop encountering God’s love in his own life.

Relevant writer Mai Perkins took a deeper dive into his album and wrote: “He’s not selling prosperity Gospel. He’s not shaming people for where they’ve been, considering how far out there and out of control he’s been. (And he’s been OUT there!)…He’s simply sharing his relatable experiences as a tremendously flawed character who happens to deeply love God. At the same time, he’s providing an environment for others to feel comfortable enough to do the same.”

Senator Adeyeye Calls For Nigeria's Disintegration

Senator Olusola Adeyeye has said it is wrong to say that Nigeria’s unity is not negotiable, adding that the country is not working the way it ought to.

Adeyeye who represent Osun Central noted this on Wednesday during a Public Lecture and Endowment Fund Launch in honor of Dr. B. G. K. Ajayi and Ibadan Medical School at 70, held at Paul Hendrickse Lecture Theatre, University College Hospital, Ibadan.

“Our republic creeks and moans from the gales that precariously dangle on the precipice of disintegration. For quite a few years, we have been under an undeclared civil war,” he said.

“The breakup of countries is nothing strange. It is arrant superstition to say the unity of Nigeria is non-negotiable. Examples abound in the world where unity became inimical to peace and progress and the citizen summoned the wisdom and courage to say enough is enough.

“Let no one deceive you. What we are seeing are the tell-tale signs of a failing nation and a failing nation ultimately lead to dismemberment. We can pretend it will not happen in the name of Jesus Christ or Allah. Problems are not solved because we ignore them.”

He gave examples of nations that broke up, saying Nigeria should consider her present state to know if it is worth staying at one.

According to him, “We cannot be in a big entity where we self-destruct one another. You need the freedom to use your God-given talent to be the best you can be.

History has shown that the stupendous leap in progress by India and Pakistan has not been limited to military technology and strength. They have made great progress in technology, healthcare, agriculture etc.

“If we were to attempt to have a national language, people will talk about Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba, the onus will be on us to adopt Itsekiri or Tiv so that arrogance of the major tribes will not be there.

“We don’t have to be afraid that as fellow human beings we can meet and agree that for us to have peace, we can go our separate ways.

LMU 5TH CONVOCATION: CHANCELLOR ADVOCATES INNOVATIVE EDUCATION FOR ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION

The Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Regents, Landmark University Dr. David Oyedepo, has called for the adoption of innovative education system to tackle the nation’s socio-economic challenges. He made the call while addressing the gathering at the 5th Convocation ceremony of the University, in his speech titled: “Defining Destiny by Taking Responsibility.” He reiterated that Nigeria’s socio-economic and security challenges are surmountable through stakeholder’s responsibility. He expressed the need for youth of the nation to be groomed through innovative education system to be able to assume responsibility in tackling the nation’s challenges as future leaders.
According to him, “nothing defines destiny as the action of taking personal responsibility, it is not capacity that defines impact, but capacity utilization.” Dr. Oyedepo boasted that the institution’s students upon graduation possessed the prerequisite entrepreneurial and life applicable education through its well-tailored curriculum and academic base. “This has clearly sets them out to be solution providers and in restoring the dignity of the black man in line with the university’s motor - Breaking new Grounds. By way of situating the relevance of University Education, particularly in addressing the issues of the day. I have come to the conclusion that universities do not exist to teach and graduate students, but rather to serve as a preparatory ground for raising students to take responsibility. This they do as they engage with the issues in the real life context upon graduation” Dr. Oyedepo added.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adeniyi Olayanju, while giving his welcome speech, reiterated the institution’s efforts in advancing the frontiers of research activities in boosting agricultural value chain. This, he noted, would engender the much needed food sufficiency in the country and the Africa as a whole. “We are poised to move Landmark University to a higher level through positive policy initiatives and unrelenting commitment to value addition and global competitiveness. With the breath-taking infrastructural development programmes supportive of teaching and learning, the university is set to enlarge her coast by introducing more undergraduate programmes and commencement of postgraduate programmes,” he said. He, therefore, beckon on parents to come and have landmark experience by enrolling their wards in Landmark University where cost-effective leadership training, along with cutting-edge research engagement and Christian ethos are guaranteed.
While delivering the Keynote Address titled, “Restructuring Curriculum and Content Delivery in Higher Education for National Economic and Development,” Professor Israel Adu, had observed that a good content delivery was a critical key to effective implementation of a curriculum that can give knowledge and attitude. Professor Adu, a professor of Animal Science and current President Nigerian Institute of Animal Science, maintained that since societal growth dynamic, the curriculum review must also be dynamic to adequately respond to the emerging needs of the society. “A good curriculum should emphasize the depth of understanding over a breadth of coverage by providing learners the opportunity to practise or demonstrate what is learnt in a variety of contexts. Teachers/Lecturers have critical roles in the effective delivery of Curriculum Content. Curriculum Content concerns the facts, principles and concepts to be taught. A good content delivery is a panacea for the effective implementation of a curriculum for learning to give knowledge, skill and altitude to the learner,” he said.
A total of 405 students graduated from the institution’s three colleges (Agricultural Sciences, Science & Engineering, and Business & Social Sciences) for the 2017/2018 session with 38 of them in the first class degree category. King Adeyemo Gabriel Olawale emerged the Best Graduating student from the Department of Computer Science with a CGPA of 4.96.
