VolvoS60:Sir, you have asked a very valid question that any sensible Nigerian should be asking but unfortunate, politics wouldn't let you get the answer. You may think Nigerian business men were not thinking about building refineries and all the benefits that comes with it, but politics wouldn't let it happen. Like i said earlier, the whole subsidy thing is a large and long standing fraudulent scheme called the 'Nigeria political compensation scheme'. Let me quick give you an example, go back to your archive and check out the 2011 'Friends of Jonathan' presidential campaign fund-raising programme and match the names of the people in attendance with the names of the people indicted for subsidy scam and see what you get. These are the lobbyists. The ones you call the cabal. So sir, there, is your answer. Like a wise man once told me, buying is cheaper than begging, while stealing or taking is cheaper than buying. These people would rather falsify Bill of laden and delivery documents and get gauranteed fraudulent subsidy cash as compensation for their campaign investment than go thru the hassle and risk of doing the real business, which to me is dumb. This is a very complex topic to discuss, it takes a first-hand experience of the whole thing to really understand it. Fortunately, Nigerians partially rose up to them and the result; the cabal has been broken back to the original 7. Now the rest have to really do the work and get compensated in another way. This answers why Dangote is suddenly interested in building an $8B refinery with majorly local 'partners'. It's a little complex sir. Just a little...lol |
atlwireles:LOL, funny. Now i know where your problem lies. With your above statement, i can tell you are still living in the '70s. Get enlightened dude, Nigeria has shortlisted the number of NNPC importers back to the original 7 right after the subsidy saga. Plus the 7s can't even source the product from any other company outside the trio of Trafigura, Glencore or Vitol S.A. Any document of delivery from any other company outside of these three will not be accepted. Like i said, get enlightened. Let's talk about something else. |
atlwireles:What crap are you on about dude? Plus since you like answering questions with questions, are you now telling us here that there are no more independent fuel importers in Nigeria aside from the 7 majors anointed by the FG? |
atlwireles:Well, i was of the impression that you are someone with whom one could have an intellectual discuss, then again i suddenly realized that you're one of those GEJ apologist. I personally have nothing against GEJ or whatever, i just dont like the dummbb way you guys go about it. And talking about 'we people' dying in poverty, that was a joke right? Cos you don't even know me personally. Being paid N100k monthly to be an internet troll doesn't amount to much you know. Well, the fact is the fact. Subsidy is a fraud. It never existed. It's only part of the 'Nigerian compensation scheme' for the few. Get enlightened. Plus hey, you still did not answer how other Oil companies survive without receiving the subsidy funds? |
atlwireles:Well, i wouldn't mind if you are I have a go at it using facts and figures. State what you know here and let's see how you weigh up. Before you even go about gathering figures, ask yourself these questions: 1. What is subsidy? 2. What is it for? 3. Does NNPC imports petroleum products or who are those doing the importation on their behalf? 4. How many of them are being paid for the importation exercise (in the name of subsidy)? 5. How are others, not depending on subsidy making profit doing the same fuel importation independently? |
bushdoc9919:Dude... if you like quote the whole world, i still put it to you that you know nothing about this topic being discussed. There is nothing like a fixed global petroleum price. You only have global crude oil price. All countries set their petroleum prices accordingly. I will tell you this as i have stated it previously, 'There is nothing like subsidy in the first place. It is simply a scam'. I am in the industry and you can tell your finance minister or the petroleum minister to call me out on this. With or without government subsidy funds, you can import your petroleum products into this country and still turn profit. At the moment, only 7 companies are granted allocations to import oil into the country on behalf of the FG and these are the ones who will share this N1 Trillion. Just 7 companies sharing N1 Trillion subsidy funds. All other companies are going to import and sell their own oil without receiving subsidy. Yet they're going to make massive profits. They were making massive profits before the increment from N65 - N95, so you can imagine the profit now, and this is them, without receiving subsidy funds. Call your connects in the oil industry (downstream) and verify this. Moreover, all the oil imported into the country by these 7 oil companies are going to be bought from some 3 companies (Glencore, Trafigura and Vitol S.A) solely anointed by the FG. So stop feeding Nigerians with your simple and unintelligent logic or rather, some random facts from equally ill-informed journalists and get informed about what you pay for. Fuel subsidy has always been a scam, and a big scam it'll continue to be, until we all get informed and stand up to the government trying to lift it's 'fraudulent obligations' on the populace. |
bushdoc9919:Dude, you are only trying to sound intelligent. I can tell you, you know nothing about what you speak. Tell us the ball-pack figure of how much these things cost. And don't forget to quote here, how much it cost to import PMS, DPK and AGO into the country and let's see if it's still profitable without subsidy funding. Ask yourself this, is there any oil company in Nigeria importing fuel without receiving subsidy funds from the government? I can answer this for you. 80% of the oil companies in Nigeria, goes about their normal oil importation business without receiving subsidy funds from the govenment, so the question now is, how do they turn profit? Then, why is the government selectively paying subsidy to some? You need to answer these, if you truly know anything about the topic being discussed. |
Nigerians be like, oh look at our landscape, look at out skyline...what a horrible sight, then the govt plan to build a monument or a beautification program, then they go.... case of misplaced priority. Shey na wetin dem suppose dey do now be this when people never chop. I always think Nigerians are confused set of people. Never sure of what they want. |
Well, like the posters above have said, your CGPA is the deciding factor in this. Plus, there's not so much difference between 2.1 and 2.2 in the Nigerian labor market this days. In addition, you can always upgrade by going for a professional course instead. The certification really helps. Oh boy, take your 2.2 draw jeje and go serve your papa land. ![]() |
san316: What expect you? The guy has no future in PDP. He's a small boy. Some people will just comment for commenting sake. Yes he is a small boy, yet he became the speaker of the house in his 30s. Aren't you curious as to how this happened to someone who was never a politician? While we have old men who would do anything to attain a fraction of that position? Think! |
Sibrah: Shocking!!! What is keeping people like in Power? Ehn, if not for 'upside-downedness' of Nigeria. You should be happy this news eventually came out and you are reading about it. This has been going around Abuja for like 2 years now. There are 100s of such stories you will never get to hear about unfortunately. |
I believe this news is a joke. Why does it have to be the motorist who should install the device is their cars and not the police or frsc officers like you have in other countries? This is a big joke. I think the government has stopped funding this frsc of a commission and left them to generate their own funds, hence, the different masses-em-burdening projects they keep embarking on. People need to fight against this. The people running the commission are too daft. |
Nokia and Microsoft M&A deal was a match made in hell. Damn, that was the dumbest business move in the history of technology and business. I will never find any worse M&A deal ever in this one world. Oh...maybe i over exaggerate a little but damn, it's that bad. Why is it that bad you may want to ask? First let's look at Nokia. In the past decade they have totally lack innovation. Nothing new has come out from them even worse they were totally MIA (missing in action) during the smartphone revolution. They came in 4 years late when their competition had totally taken over the market. Now Microsoft shares exactly the same history with Nokia in the last decade. Since the departure of Bill Gates at the beginning of the millennium, Steve Ballmer did nothing new. All we saw from him was error over error, even worse enough for them, they equally didn't show up at the Smartphone war. Nothing whatsoever from Microsoft. Now, if you merge this two companies together, what do you expect to get? Instant market domination? You gotta be kidding. I see them even crashing farther than this. Things even got worse for Nokia when they couldn't handle they low-end dominated market. They couldn't give their low end consumers something (a product) to be happy about. Just some randomly cheap, tasteless-four-corner phones and they think they can hold the market with that? They need to take a queue from companies like Techno who has single-handedly dominated Nokia's low end market with stylishly-looking pocket-friendly phones. Companies the world over needs visionary leaders, who are younger, vibrant and in tune with the technologies of the future, not some old, cold steve ballmers who i think became MS's CEO just cos he has always been with Bill Gates. Plus never forget to innovate, as innovation is the bane of many major corporations in this dot com era. |
chulla12: All I can think about is the vomit inducing se.x.Don't worry, you'll get your answer in 20-30 years from now and guess what? You'd be the one to answer your own question |
In Nigeria, this guy'd have started a church, call it 'ori oke Omo mi da' (mountain of where is my own child) and make more money than this. Note: the mountain is strictly for the rich o.... Make no poor woman come spoil business dey expect kids |
I was just about to create thread for this, but I'll just let yours be. @topic, I'm an apple guy, but this design seems not to catch my fancy. Atleast for now. It just doesn't have the love-at-first-sight factor like the iPhone 5 when it came out. |
gatiano: this is a really complicated issue that needs to be thoroughly discussed in the country as a whole for a general development.I guess for the sake of clarity, i will have to respond to your comment in bits. The quote above is totally against my state of mind. I'm not like a teacher who is neglecting the ones who don't know. If i was in that state of mind, i wouldn't give out those 3 most important hints on how an investors thinks. And those right there are basically how ALL investors would first set out to think. As matter of fact, my heart is with the SMEs. If i had the time and opportunity to create a mentor-ship platform for prospective entrepreneur right now, God knows i'll do it. But i do not have the time and i think i am not very gifted in writing professionally. But if you would read on, you may learn a thing or two from what i'm about to write. heaven helps those that help themselves, true. we are all not previledged, some have access to and some will have to try a little harder.I passionately believe that SMEs are the way forward for developing economies, developed economies or any economy for that matter and if i can successfully pool/raise funds for investments into Africa, financial services is at the top of my interest list. Having said that, starting a business is a different game all together. It takes a lot of things. From mental and physical preparedness to stark determination, to being superlatively focused, to mental paradigm shift etc... Before you start a business, you have to start thinking like a business man and start learning alot about business. I will take your above quote for example. The bold part of the quote is your friend's major problem. Like i said you have to start seeing every move from a business perspective to be a good business man. To the best of my knowledge, from your above quote, you friend has 'no business relationship with the bank' when things were going good for him/her. Most of us mistake saving into our accounts as relationship with the bank when in fact, your cash is considered as a 'liability' on them. Because they legally make no money from your deposits. You can come and ask for your deposit anytime but if you take out loans, that's when you start having a business relationship with the bank, because they'll be officially and legally making money from you in the name of interest. This way you have done business with the bank. This relationship thing is one of the things that helped me coming up in my business. I will take loan (even when i don't need it) when my business is giving good profit just for the sake of creating business relationship and pay back as fast as i can. And i keep doing that time and time over until i knew i must have been in their good books. Then next, i took a line of credit, which is even better than a loan (you should read about it if you know that what that is or how it works). This gave me a good reputation with the banks. Note that i didn't need this loans, i was only planning towards the time i'll need to expand my business and when the time came and i approach them, they had no option than to grant me without much questions. So what can you learn from the above, you need to create a good business relationship with your bank at all cost. They are out to make money too. Give what is worth for ceaser to ceaser. Just make sure, in the long run, you're the one making the larger profits. Plan ahead. Deposits are not business relationship, you are worth nothing to them. Don't wait till you are in trouble before you ask for loan. Take it for the sake of it. You're a business man, you're suppose to be smart. Taking out loans will (I) Help you create relationship with the bank (II) Give you access to what we call OPM (Other People's Money) and use other people's deposits to expand your own business while they are all sleeping feeling rich over their account balance. Get it? Why do you think the rich take out loan for a car they can afford to pay cash for? Think guys. This right here is not something i can talk about within a few paragraphs but i believe you get the drift. it will surprise you that, more than 80% of nigerians are not interested in creating businesses, they are 100% satisfied with working (being a teacher, policeman, farmer, pharmacist, and doctor etc), more than 75% don't think about buying a land and building their personal mansions, all they are satisfied with is a comfortable apartments. As much as i believe the banks should be able to provide loan to the above state categories of people, but at this point, from the business point of view, they wouldn't be able to do it because they are equalit on LOAN or EQUITY from investors who gave them the money for consolidation exercise initiated by Prof. Soludo. Remember i said above that "if i can successfully 'pool' investment", i will go into financial services. This investments will be coming from somewhere, either as a loan or equity investment and my business (finanacial services/bank) will have to pay back the loan or make profits for the investors. So your banks are equally working on making profits for their investors who rescued them from going under during the consolidation program, so they need only businesses that'll give them high yield. However, Micro finance banks should be able to give loans to these categories of people. as an investor, you will check all the corners, up and down, it all come down to risk, it will be calculated, some you lose, some moderate and some a super win. banks can even support businesses and share ownership 50/50. everybody is liable and has a right to loan depending on his/her capabilities. country of 170 milion people, yet a bank from their can't boost of been the 10 top most bank of the world, that shows you the relationship they have with their customers.Yes, everybody should have a right to a loan but remember most Nigerians are bad with loans. Even within their families. They lied to you about the purpose of the loans and go partying or buying things they dont need. It is on the banks/investors to look thorough (due diligence) to be sure this is one person he can do business with. And that involve, giving out his money to, giving out his time, giving his attention, giving out his emotion, because lets face it, investments require all this. In summary, what i want us to gain from this many many stories is that, as a prospective entrepreneur, we must be mentally very ready and ready to see things from a business perspective. My last example will be why i don't keep extra-marital affairs. Not only because of my undying love for my wife, nor is it of her ravishing beauty, or is it of her supportive and good behavior, or only because of the respect i have for her but because of the business side of keeping such affairs. I have come to realize that, i will not be gaining anything from such ventures. What the lady will be offering is her body and i will equally be offering mine, so why do i have to be the only one to spend my money in the affairs? The investment outweighs the gain. If I want sex, I'll go to my wife. Period! Shalom I will try and edit this later, I'm heading out. |
jpphilips: I wasn't really expecting you to answer that question, its just to tell you that every conflict is not about control of oil and oil prices, like i said, you made sense in that line of thought though.I know Sir, i only answered that just for the sake of those who come here and read for educational purpose. I always like things to be as clear as possible, so if an 8 year old, ten years down the line becomes 18 and come here 10 years later to read this, he/she will understand what you and I was talking about without any extra effort. ![]() Then again, Crimea is half Political, half Oil. Western countries already have plans for Crimea's black sea gas fields. |
jpphilips: Some sense in what you said, just a quick one, how much oil is produced from Crimea in Ukraine, anyoneWell Crimea situation as far as i understand is another game all together. It's a political/diplomatic tussle between US (in the guise of a la UN) and Russia on who controls Crimea/Ukraine by proxy. I'll be very afraid if my enemy who lives in Ikoyi controls the Okada riders association in my area in Magodo and i'll fight tooth and nail to stop that. I don't know if this makes sense to anyone. PS: Don't forget Crimea possesses a huge amount of natural gas |
DailyNews: Arabs, religious fanatics and terror sponsors.....anything from them is like a gift from mami water, don't just like them becos of their love for terror and human oppression while acting like they love peace n development.Sir, as much as i detest terror attacks and sponsorship but i believe it is right for us all to have a better understanding of things happening around us. I believe we should not point accusing fingers on the Arabs alone, i think all oil producing countries including Nigeria are suspects of terror sponsorship. It is how the Oil business works. I am in the industry so i know what i'm saying. Take for example, if you sell a sachet of pure water for N5 in the raining season and during the dry season, you move your product to the same market and sell it for N100 each, how would you honestly feel? How do you think the whole pure water manufacturers at the time would feel? Your answer is as good as mine. Now how would you feel if you get a news that, there is a way you could invest some few bucks into weather researches and keep the dryness for a longer or say permanent term? Would you invest or not? That my friend, is the business of oil. All oil investors understand this, as a matter of fact, they make forecasts on this. Which country might get hit next in order to create short supply in the market, for others to hike their prices. Islam fanaticism unfortunately is the avenue they found to disrupt the market. You should ask yourself why terror attacks are only synonymous to oil producing countries? There lies your answer. So with this discovery, any oil producing country can sponsor disruption and terrorism depending on how weak the targeted country is. Take this from me, America will be the biggest terror sponsor of the next decade as they just became the biggest oil exporter in the world. Nobody want oil prices to come down to $20 when its their turn to dominate the market, period! |
100Cents: I am not saying that banks cannot lend you N1m for your small business but you must be a customer with at least 6 months existing turnover and your business type and address verifiable.Nigerians wont listen to you no matter how much you try and explain the act of doing business to them. They believe they are entitled to anything just because they are Nigerians. Just because they have a lousy idea, they think banks should finance them without any track record of success. gatiano: You are right, all you are saying in context is only a few should be allowed loans from the bank, and the rest to be subjected to a few. you may be right or perhaps right but i doubt it that banks can loan based on ideas. i think you are wrong, the world around you are developed starting with ideas, ideas manifest into materials or physical structures by help of finances. the bank should lend to common people, not to dangotes, and ovias and otedolas etc only, but to all that are capable. In life generally, nobody care about you until you start showing signs of seriousness, which can only be shown through continuous success. I'm a serial entrepreneur and i invest in start ups, but you will never find me investing in someone, whose idea is his first in business. Never! Nigerians and prospective entrepreneur the world over should understand that Investors/Banks dont lend or invest in Businesses for the most part, they invest in people. The person handling the business. The prospect of them being successful. Take for example, you come in to my office and pitch your idea to me. Though sounds very interesting and viable to me, (I) the first question i ask myself is, can this guy handle this? (II) The second is, this idea is not original, so it's something i could have come up with or someone had already pitched this to me in the past but i didn't give much attention or perhaps, someone already pitched this to me but the time wasn't right (but now, due to different changes in circumstances and life, the time is right), so why should i pay this guy for this? (III) Then the next thought is, i could get my team to develop this and make tons of money without this guy, so why do i need him? What i'm trying to say is, if your idea is interesting and viable enough, try and source the capital within your circle first and get the business running. If you then come to me with good digits, there's no way i wont want a piece of you by investing. Haven't you heard of bankers begging or even doing extreme things just to get some people to get loan ( which they most times dont need) from them? That's because they have successfully proven that they can be successful without the banks and these banks want to make money with them from their businesses. Note that these banks at these point aren't really interested in the full details of the business(es), they just want to have a piece of the profit from whatever and however it is you are running your businesses and turning profit. In summary, find a way to SHOW people you can do it and watch them queue at your door to do business with you. Actions they say, speaks louder than voice. I know this may sound rather harsh and unrealistic for some people who are down down the pecking order in life but hey, it's life. Life is harsh and unfair. The onus is on all of us to get up from our situations and get the ball rolling. Shalom |
trexzee: guess u're wrong in that statement, if u've been around in abj there's about 3 lamborghinis there and I think there's two in LagosAbuja have 3 lambos? Lol I think you don't come to the Eagle square on Sundays. Meanwhile, Lagos equally have way more than 2 lambos. |
Mubby4luv: Americans displaying stup!dity since heaven. You'd be surprised to hear that the queue is always longer in China for apple phones. Try using Youtube or google and find out about this. It's like a competition between the 2 countries. Who first started queuing and who's got the longest queue. |
This is the kinda loyalty all other mobile brands are dying to get. This happens all the time. Apple should do all in their power to keep this. The day the loose this turn-out, the day the company die no matter how innovative they become. |
What they discovered is nothing new. We've been reading about this since like before we can even say our name. Ask any 4 year old christian child about this and he'd tell you without thinking twice. Took the Almighty God just 6 days to create all these. It has taken scientists millions of years just to get past Genesis Chap 1 vs 9 and that's just a verse from the creation story. I'm sure it'll take them another long long time to get past another verse from the creation revelation. Shows you how powerful God really is. |
Abeg enough with all the back and forth about who is or who is not the sponsor of BH jor. Even it is certainly this guy and the former COAS, what can the toothless dog in the state house do about it? Ofcourse nothing. This guy denying it is just a formality, not cos he's afraid of being prosecuted or anything. So all the arguments and counter-arguments makes no sense. |
I wonder how you didnt mention the No 1 money wasting avenue in Nigeria, which is spending so much on "Fuel for generator" everyday. Imagine buying like 3-5k fuel for the generator in your office and at least 1k for your house generator, every blessed day of the year. Calculate this and you'd see how much someone like me is wasting every month unnecessarily. Plus i know some people with even bigger spending on generators. Depressing! PS: I didnt even touch on fueling your car(s) |
Una dey here dey talk local uninspiring football, when the whole world dey follow transfer market deadline.... ![]() |
allanphash7: is this airport or seaport? Both, it's called SeAirport.. get use to it |
The earlier we all start seeing politics for what it truly is (which is purely business), the better for us all. APC/PDP, Lai Mohammed/Doyin Okupe, GEJ/Buhari/Tinubu/OBJ/Atiku et al, all business men (in the business of people and resources management) looking out for their individual personal interest. Therefore, it your own failing for putting your faith in any of these people to come in and transform your life. It is your failing for not being able to differentiate between a rhetoric and a true dedication. It is your failing for mistaking an ambition-pursuit for a party loyalty. Those who can spot the difference are the ones who progresses quickly in life. |
This thread should be re-titled : Journalists with the most beautiful make-ups. All i see from these pics are heavy make-ups. Majority of them are of 'sub-standard' beauty, lest the 'most'. |

? PPRA is open for you to apply, if you meet their set matrix, you might just be lucky to join a business, where the consumer and the government holds all the risk and you smile to the bank.
