ModiKen: You call building schools and giving people basic amenities crap?
I would assume it was a mistake.
Anyway, thanks for the explanation but I expected a more direct impact on the lives of the people due to all the hype given to the position.
BTW, if u dey busy for work, then why u kom dey use one eye dey look NL.
I dey suspect u.... Yes I called it crap (in the Nigerian context) cos without the right fundamentals, a school is a just a piece of real estate instead of being a facility where people are built to better the future. Look, one of the biggest problem we have in this country is "sincerity of purpose". How many schools built in this country was built to truly build and prepare people for the advancement of our future? What is the difference between the first set of tertiary institutions in Nigeria and the modern ones. Why do we have the chinua achibes (did u read his book, There was a country? Did you read the descriptions of the schools back then), the wole Soyinkas and the likes emanate from those schools and can hardly find a new age graduate with half a brain? What we have today are just pieces of real estates called school and make-believe/for-the-camera borehole projects instead of a true source of life which the water projects are suppose to be for. So my statement wasn't a mistake, it is what it is, fact. |

ModiKen: Dude u missed the point.
I don't care if the Ooni of Ife has a convoy longer than the "China wall" or if he is a "god".
I am merely asking, how has this traditional position benefitted the Yoruba people?
What development has been recorded in Yoruba land as a direct effect from Ooni of Ife's throne.
I am not Yoruba, so please enlighten me if there is any way Yoruba people have enjoyed one form of development or the other from the Ooni of Ife past and present.
Cos if there isn't, this is a waste of time IMO. Look I'm very busy with work right now but to give a quick response to your question. There so many benefits that comes with the throne of the Ooni, one of them has been mentioned by the poster below. Another 2 quick (self explanatory) ones are; 1. Leadership Consider the 4 major political regions in Nigeria ( The North, SW, SE, SS) and see how important leadership is. See why the north always win despite the fact that there are regions called the NE, NW and NC. 2. Sense of Identity. Loose it and loose everything you stand and hope for. There are Yorubas in Benin Republic and southern America, how do you think they'd feel knowing the leader of their origin? Because they do not live here doesn't make them less of Yoruba people. I know you expected that I'd mention things like building schools and borehole and other crap you people refer to as development but without these above fundamental things, any supposed development is nonsense. |

How has that traditional title benefitted Ife people or Nigerians in general?
Please I need some cheering political news (if only PMB and his ministers wld do smtin productive soon), not Ooni this and Ooni that.
BTW, when is he taking a new, young wife; one old enough to be his daughter (as is the tradition)?
Smh To educate you. He is henceforth the leader of the whole Yoruba Clan worldwide. He is not just a traditional ruler but the head of the whole Yoruba tribe all over the world. He is not even an Oba, he is Oonirisa. A living god with a small G. This is why you saw sultan of sokoto at his coronation. Those are his class. If you ever come across his convoy, then you'd know how much importance even the govt attached to his throne. His security details is more than any governor's. No lie. |

I welcome a disciplined Nigeria but they way they're going about it, they would plunge Nigeria into a depressive state. IHEKESON: LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,
Wear sunscreen. If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience... I will dispense this advice now.
Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh never mind; you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded. But trust me, in 20 years you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked... You're not as fat as you Imagine.
Don't worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind. The kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.
Do one thing everyday that scares you.
Sing.
Don't be reckless with other people's hearts, don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.
Floss.
Don't waste your time on jealousy; Sometimes you're ahead, Sometimes You're behind. The race is long, and in the end, it's only with yourself.
Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; If you Succeed in doing this, tell me how.
Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch.
Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your Life. The most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don't.
Get plenty of calcium.
Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone.
Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't, maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't, maybe you'll divorce at 40, maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary. Whatever you do, don't Congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either. Your choices are half chance, so are everybody else's. Enjoy your body, Use it every way you can... Don't be afraid of it, or what other people Think of it, It's the greatest instrument you'll ever own...
Dance... even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.
Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.
Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.
Brother and sister together we'll make it through Someday your spirit will take you and guide you there I know you've been hurting, but I've been waiting to be there For you. And I'll be there, just tell me now, whenever I can. Everybody's free.
Get to know your parents, you never know when they'll be gone for good.
Be nice to your siblings; They are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.
Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
Travel.
Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will Philander, you too will get old, and when you do you'll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.
Don't expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund, Maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.
Don't mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will look 85.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
But trust me on the sunscreen...
(Brother and sister together we'll make it through Someday your spirit will take you and guide you there I know you've been hurting, but I've been waiting to be there For you. And I'll be there, just tell me now, whenever I can. Everybody's free.)

Talk of exposure, profile, on the job experience; Ikechukwu beats her hands down... From the pedigree of persons we have been having in that position. I think this is a drop in standard. If you know anything about the Ministry of Finance, you should know that whoever is to occupy the position must have an Economics background. Adeosun has that, while Ikechukwu is with a medical background. Ikechukwu will no doubt perform better in his present position. cecegorz: Come on man, that was a sweeping statement with no substance. Nigerians actually run MTN, the only difference is that the SA company is the technical partner. Prior to the advent of GSM, no Nigerian company has technical capacity in GSM switching operations so none could have taken up the technical role, but it was Nigeria's high networth investors that pulled equity together for the funding. Stop looking down on Nigerians, we know what's up.
That crimininaly minded politicians fleeced their states out of Econet investment does not take out the fact that their are also individual Angel investors in the same company who are still holding strong their shares. God bless you bro. This what I was telling MadCow on the other thread. Nigerians look down on Nigerians and Nigeria too much. This is one of our biggest problems. We need reorientation in that regard. We need to have sense of self-worth. We don't know what we are worth. This is one of the things America does right. Americans will tell their kids they are the best in the world and that stick to their brain till they die. Meanwhile, quote me anywhere, Americans are some of the dumbest people in this whole world. I know most people here will disagree with me cos we are made to believe they are the best in anything, but I have lived and work with the smartest of them and seen their mental capability. Why does Nigerians go abroad and come out top of their class? I have seen multiple instances. I am a testament to that myself. We need to find a way to create this sense of self-worth into ourself and our coming generation in other to have a good sense of identity. Without this, we will never be able to identify ourself when asked, point out and achieve our potentials. |

This should tell you that data they sell is bought from other telecom operators. Airtel just laid theirs last 3months. Its been Glo(done by main One cable) and MTN only since inception of data services.
B) Ask Glo workers any mast that spoils remains so until Adenuga signs the mail to work on it. Also do you know that masts are not owned by telecom owners again but Ericsson and co, thats why 3 telecom coys can mount a satelite on one mast.
C) The laptops used for SIM reg, who owns them? NCC of course seeing they used agents in 2010 when SIM was done for the first time and telecom operators used their offices

Every man and woman must bow to whoever ascend The throne, even if you are older than methuselah. Immediately you become an Oba, you become the father of all. Everybody under that kingdom become your subject and worship you regardless of your age. Plus this is just for Oba, how much more an Ooni. All I can say is, this guy have no idea what he is getting into until he properly settle into it. The throne of an Ooni is not just a throne you aspire to ascend into. MadCow1: Young Man please take a seat and stop blowing hot air.
The truth is that MTN and DSTV Nigeria can close up shop in Nigeria and still reel in an annual profit. You make it sound as if Nigeria is a haven for people to do business in. With all the challenges they have to face in our business climate, they still managed to build the biggest brands in the two sectors they operate in. If they leave, the unemployment burden on the nation will be phenomenal. If doing what they do were that easy, HITV would be the King of cable Television in Nigeria and NITEL would still be the National telecoms network provider.
And please your post on shoprite is neither here nor there. If Shoprite leaves, many businesses will definitely take their space, but unless you are bringing in another foreign supermarket chain like ASDA, TESCO, WALMART, COSTCO, e.t.c, it wouldn't command the same business pull that SHOPRITE carried neither will they employ the number of staff that Shoprite does.
The Nigerian Market remains a free market. DSTV may be expensive but considering the number of original content DSTV carries, I absolutely understand. Nigerians will never question why a Mercedes in the same class as a KIA sells for 5 times the price of a KIA but yet would want DSTV to provide them premium packages for minimum wage. That is absolute bullshit.
I would be happy to see another cable Television subscriber give DSTV a run for their market share in Nigeria, but I doubt anybody would be able to achieve that immediately. DSTV has been doing this for over 20years. You don't just come out of nowhere to overthrow the king.
If DSTV shuts down AFRICA MAGIC... Nollywood actors will stage an "Occupy Nigeria protest". Musicians nko? Welldone Mr MadCow, you have spoken well like an educated fellow. However, in order to truly understand the subject matter, you have to know more than what you read in the news or what you are thought in school. The whole MTN fine and the examples you stated above are purely political. Ofcourse, you should know that businesses of this magnitude are more political than your average buy and sell businesses. I will take your post in bits; The truth is that MTN and DSTV Nigeria can close up shop in Nigeria and still reel in an annual profit. If doing what they do were that easy, HITV would be the King of cable Television in Nigeria and NITEL would still be the National telecoms network provider. Yes, Nigeria is a business haven, you should ask MTN, DSTV and Nestle about this. The almighty mtn which you are rooting for, currently operate in 22 countries accross africa and the middle east, of which Nigeria is their biggest market. Mtn Nigeria gives them their biggest profit and here you are talking about challenges. Where else in the world will they milk and treat costumers my disdain and the gov't look the other way? And Dstv? Nestle? Find out about things before you ask such question next time. Find out the true story about what happened between DSTV and Toyin Subair. Why do you think no other paytv has been able to penetrate the biggest market in africa? And please your post on shoprite is neither here nor there. If Shoprite leaves, many businesses will definitely take their space, but unless you are bringing in another foreign supermarket chain like ASDA, TESCO, WALMART, COSTCO, e.t.c, it wouldn't command the same business pull that SHOPRITE carried neither will they employ the number of staff that Shoprite does. First, thank God you didnt dispute what i wrote about shoprite not building malls and secondly, You know it is funny how much Nigerians don't know the value of their market. While Chris Wiesel is running over the place to raise more funds to expand his presence in the Nigerian market before Walmart (the company he has over the years lobbied successive African gov't to keep out of Africa) takes over the whole market, here we are talking about if he leaves? Leave where? LOL ... Dem no born him mama well. I triple dare him to even let that idea cross his mind, he'd be playing right into Walmart's hand. (FYI, Walmart is coming into Lagos soon) Morale of the story; Nigerians, Know Your Worth. If DSTV shuts down AFRICA MAGIC... Nollywood actors will stage an "Occupy Nigeria protest". Musicians nko? Yes Nigerians will never question such because there is a freedom of choice. There is enough competition in the auto market. The story of DSTV and Shoprite is a story of 'what you sow you reap'. You have in the past used the gov't of the land to shut out all competition, now a new sheriff is in town and this same gov't is putting measure to liberate her market and the same people being liberated are the ones crying wolf because they know nothing about what is going on. We all need to understand the Nigerian market before we speak ill of the country. No, the country is not the best in the world, neither is her market the best but, the country is more valuable than we all think. You must be kidding, if quick loan is what you want, go to FCMB. Let me enlighten you a little, incase you don't know, shoprite rarely build shopping centers, they only rent and partner with real estate developers and have a first right over the shopping space and use their brand to draw traffic to the mall. Let the quit their space today and watch over 100 retail stores bid for their space. Dstv? Even Koos Becker, the owner, will never dare to make such statement.
