@ Playmode, good to hear you are from Ekiti. But you need to fine tune your relationship with your father's family. I'm not saying it because of now but tomorrow. Unless you do not nurse any ambition of serving your fatherland at the state or national level. I trust my people they will later relate your history to you when the time comes. My advice. cheesy
I wish it was that easy but it is complicated. They did something to me that i will never forget. If i wish to serve Ekiti in future ,i can do it without them, all that matters is that i serve Ekiti honestly and with dignity.  wink
Warn him o. He doesnt know that we Ekitis dont forget easily and neither do we forgive easily.  cheesy tongue

Kini diff between Ekiti and Ondo gan sef? You know we look at you through your father's house. If you cannot point to where his house is, then you might as well be homeless tongue

So you telling me that if I kidnap you and drop you in the middle of Ekiti, I can walk away with a crime?
Yes o! 1999 was a long time ago (11 years).I grew up in Ikeja and only went home to Ekiti during christmas period so i never memorized the important routes.I still have faint memories of Ejigbo in Ado Ekiti ,little by liitle's house ,Christ school Ado and Olora's palace but i don't how to get from point A to B.
PoliticsRe: Ekiti To Get Army Unit –ihejerika by playmode(m): 1:47pm On Aug 12, 2011
I don't think it is a good development due to the general mentality of Nigerian soldiers."kill and go" if you know what i mean.A state police would have been better but anyways that is naija for you.

On some personal ish @Ileke Idi & 9jaganga

If you were to drop me in the middle of Ado Ekiti today ,i will be practically lost because i don't even remember how to get to our family's palace. The last time i was in Ekiti ,Ado to be precise was 1999 when i went home for my father's burial.Haven't been there since and practically cut ties with my father's family due to some personal beef.Even changed my last name legally because i dont want to be part of the family anymore. My allegiance to Ekiti today is just in honor of my father's memory.I am more loyal to Ondo where my mother comes from.
TravelRe: 100,000 Nigerians Apply For Us Visa Weekly by playmode(m): 1:02pm On Aug 12, 2011
jerryben12:
That is a huge number. Non immigrant visa fees is about $150 and immigrant visa fee is $355. If you do the maths with some assumptions (say 10% are immigrant visa), thats a lot of $$$.

10% 0f 100,000 = 10,000 (10,000 X $355 = $3,550,000 weekly)
90% of 100,000 = 90,000 (90,000 X $150 = $13,500,000 weekly)

This means the US embassy in Nigeria is generating an average of $17,050,000 weekly or $68,200,000 monthly.

This translates to N11,253,000,000. This is a BIG Wao! About N11B monthly!

I hope this number of applicants is just an assumption!
I doubt that 100,000 nigerians apply for US weekly maybe monthly but definately not weekly. You know how Americans are ,always wanting to blow things out of proportion.I am sure this guy is just exagerating.

That being said ,what you have analyzed above just goes to show that we are a nation of unintelligent people.I have heard of people even spending up to N1.5 million to get a US visa via "agents".To make matters worse only about 25% of those applicants actually get the visas issued to them.

Anyone who is a first time traveller and applying to go the USA in this day and age to hustle is just plain dumb. The US economy is in tatters and except you want to go into crime ,start a business ,study or have a rich relative in the USA you are better off in another country e.g Canada and Australia.
PoliticsRe: N’assembly Kills 6-yr Single Term Proposal by playmode(m): 11:38am On Aug 10, 2011
All these ideas GEJ has come up with is just dumb.Who cares about the 1 term presidency and who cares about state of origin. Are nigerian states now independent countries that they have to award citizenship to people who have stayed there for more than 6 months.Common people when we will we start focusing on the real issues instead of toying with dumb ideas. It like saying texas should award citizenship to a newyorker,it is a no brainer.GEJ is just playing delay tactics,he is clueless and a disgrace to the office of the presidency.

GEJ should wake the f8ck up ,genuinely fight corruption ,hire compenent non-partsian people as his ministers and offer good governance instead of playing "draft" with the future of Nigeria. We the citizens and so called educated folks of Nigeria are our own biggest problem.Look at the comments here on this thread. Some are in support of GEJ ideas while others are against it.We should not even be discussing these ridiculous ideas.

GEJ should offer good governance and facilitate rapid development in all Nigerian states. If every state in Nigeria is economically viable ,no non-indegene will be trying to get citizenship in Lagos or Abuja because they will be proud of their state of origin and they be confident enough to invest and live in their state of origin.

Look at several threads on NL that claims that an Ibo man will be come the governor of Lagos state one day.Why are ibos so eager to rule Lagos State? Why can't they develop their own homeland? It is the general lazy mentally we have in Nigeria, instead of working to better our environment we want to claim citizenship in a foreign percieved paradise. If the GEJ offers good governance ,Nigerians states will develop rapidly and ibos will be encouraged to invest in their own states as well instead of over populating lagos and the southwest. The country will become economically balanced.

As far as i am concerned.Nigeria currently has the dumbest and worst president/leader on the planet and we the citizens are no better because we continue to entertain idiotic ideas proferred by this clown GEJ.

Nigerians get your act together and let us "force" this mugu to genuinely allow Nigerian states to develop individually at a rapid rate so that we can have a collectively robust economy.Like i said a few months ago on NL,my semi educated zimbabwean maid will run Nigeria better than Jonathan.Until we stop bullsh8ting ourselves, the government will never stop bullsh8ting us!

There may be some merit to camp #1. Perhaps partitioning Nigeria (or less drastically, heavily federalizing it) would be enough (Incidentally, I'm in favor of federalization and possibly partitioning the country.) But I personally think that more is necessary.

Hmm, maybe I'm more in camp #1 than I think. But all the stuff when people complain about speaking European languages, blahblah, African culture being killed off. . . I think that is all a crock, personally. I think the conflict in Nigeria between the geopolitical regions and especially the core North and the rest of the country has certainly held us back a lot. I saw the replies you gave to Kay, Playmode and others, you saved me a lot of trouble bro. Its not easy to get away from my okada business.

Let's keep one thing in mind, the people commenting on this thread probably care a lot about fundamental issues, they want changes and they desire progress for their people. We might have different ideas about how to solve these problems, but we mostly want them solved.

I've noticed 3 major views on this thread now.

1. Those who believe that we need a cultural and ideological revolution/change.

2. Those who believe there is something inherently wrong with the African.

3 Those who believe we just need to get better at embracing what works elsewhere.

I sympathize with 3 but I'm firmly and unashamedly in support of 1. Like I mentioned on page one and two. Until we find an ideological anchor that can bind us all together, something rooted in our own philosophy and worldview, we may never stop lagging behind. Same for the rest of Africa.

It is not easy to build a Nation and nurture an ideology, we've never tried building one, we've tried copying, but never invented or innovated a national philosophy, the Americans did, the British did, the Chinese did, Russinas did, french did, even with the close cultural affinity these people share, you can still see the unique differences in political ideology and culture. It starts and end with philosophy, ideology and culture.

When Gandhi a Western trained lawyer was wearing "sari" and practicing the virtues of Hinduism while using the same ideas to push for independence and anchor his people's mind on those principles, some folks called him crazy, although his country still have a long way to go, but today, they've made tremendous progress and they will definitely make more.

I asked a question on page one, I will ask again: What is the Nigerian ideology? What is the Nigerian culture?
You have a point but how can we even nurture an ideology when we don't even love each other? Have you ever witnessed a tribal war on nairaland before? We have so many issues that divide us as a nation that it might just be impossible for us to collectively nurture one ideology.

So couldn't you have concluded in 1960 that something was intrinsically wrong with the Chinese?

Who knows, maybe black people, there is something wrong with us. But my suspicion is that bad leadership, bad governance is more to blame for what is now 50+ years of stagnation.

Anyway, even if the black man is slightly inferior as you suggest, imo we aren't inferior to the indigenes of Dubai. And they made it. So why can't we? It is too simple and lazy to blame intrinsic inferiority as the sole reason for our failures. Lazy thinking gives bad results.
Nope , we are not inferior to any other race ,we are just selfish and intolerant of one another.

One of the characteristics i like about pakis(the ones i know at least) is that they tend to look out for each other. They have solidarity amongs themselves unlike Nigerians and who like to bicker over everything.I think their own situation is more complicated than ours. They still need to get rid of the islamic crazies in their country before that can even start to improve their economy.

As of 1980, China and India basically indistinguishable from these African countries. Today, 31 years later, China has zoomed past all of us.

So what lesson did China learn that we failed to learn?

I don't think there is anything intrinsically wrong with the African man BTW. But there seems to be something that many other people get but that the African man, the Pakistani man and certain other groups have not. Chinese man didn't seem to get it either as of 1980, but today he understands.

Interesting post from EKT BEAR.

9jaganja, Odumchi etc, some thought provoking discission.

My comment will be on  TRIBALISM. I disagree with anyone uing tribalism as excuse for under development, even in the most homogenous countries like UK, US etc you will still find division/differences along ethinic lines

Think for a minute, is it Tribalism that caused outright failures of govenors in states where they lead people of their own tribe? Even at the most grass root level, is it tribalism that make LG chairmen and their cohort to loot treasury, then this are supposed to be the closest trbal kinsmen?

I tell you we are a nation full of GREED and COPRRUPT individuals, we really do not care for each other, the mentality of I BETER PASS YOU has pervaded our country, we threw moral values of PATIENCE, PERSEVANRANE, DILIGENCE AND HARD WORK to the wind in favour of get rich quick mentality. No surprise that Bank chiefs that we deem worthy ot awards and acolades actually are thieves worthy only to be thrown into prison, they should be followed quickly by all past and erving governors, ministers etc. We see the same trend all across the spheres on our dear country, churchleaders are not interested in nation building or welfare of member, but only in personal aggrandisement

I have to agree 100% with EKT BEAR on our lack of visionary leaders, we've done it again, voted mediority/corruption into power and are expecting miracle. When God is about to deliver His people He gives them leaders that often lead them out of problems, and if the leader messes up, it beomes time for regime change, so a new/better leader can emerge

@ EKT BEAR et all, can we brainstorm on the following observations:

The average diaporan talks down on happening in naija, having the memtality that they have escaped, no care for millions of people that did not have the ame esape route - We need to genuinely care for ourselves

The average bank worker/Telecoms worker/Oil ompany worker say naija is making progress and thing are getting better, he forgets the multitude of people still languishing in abject poverty, okada man that needs to pay school fees for 3children or lowly paid teacher living from hand to mouth, they will not share your naija is getting better omment, because they can feel it - We need to genuinely care for ourselves

Politician engage in proganda, suggesting how much work they are doing on the infastructure front, I chanllenge their pregnant wife to deliver their next child in the same muhroom hospital that under-equiped, where people are dying everyday, they are quick to send their wards for the best medical treatment they can find abroad -We need to genuinely care for ourselvesI dont see much of Tribalism at the local level because WE DO NOT GENUINELY CARE for the next guy who speaks the same language as you

God bless Nigeria
You hit the nail right on the head. Our general mentality as a people has to chnage if we are to see any progress in this continent.

I will give you an example from South africa: The president of ANCYL (African National Congress Youth League) JULIUS MALEMA is currently under scrutiny. This a guy who is always starring up trouble and claming to be fighting for the poor.Recently it was discovered that he had a trust fund account which he was using to receive bribes from private businesmen in order to help them secure government tenders. This guy who claims to be a man of the people and a representative of the youth just demolished a R3.6 million (N72 million) home which he bought a few years ago cash and is now building a R16 million (N320 million) mega mansion which will feature a bunker and underground tunnel. Now this is a guy whose official salary is R25,000 (N500,000) per month.

He drives around in a 2011 Range Rover ,wears $100,000 wristwatches but claims to be fighting for the poor and fighting against capitalism (since he is a communist).Guess how old he is ?  Just 29.Just 3 years ago this guy had less than R300,000(N6million) in his bank account but recent  investigations revealed that he now has about R58million (N1.1billion) in his account. Now in the past 4 years since he became the youth league president he has not created any jobs or done anything that will remotely benefit the youths.Yet the dumb youths of SA are worshipping him and calling the next president of SA.

Now he has instituted the debate about nationalization and the ruling party (ANC) are now saying that they will implement nationalization in the near future. They want to nationalize farms ,banks ,mines e.t.c  shocked SA was a world class country under Apartheid but ever since Mandela took over,it has been going down hill. Government departments are now incompetent, service delivery is non existent, corruption has spiralled out of control and unemployemnt has risen to 25% .South African black leaders were handed a world class country on a platter of Gold .A country that had and still has world class infrastructure , a lucrative tourism market ,active local industries e.t.c but they are slowly but surely running the country aground.FDI has reduced in the last year from R5.1 billion to R1.1 billion.Investors are starting to be scared of investing in SA due this nationalization bullcrap they have been flauting about.

What is SA's excuse, surely they cannot blame the west ? They can not blame Apartheid any longer ,it ended over 20 years ago.So why can't they get their act together  undecided  **sighs** This is Africa!

While education is important, you guys need to realize that that is not the real problem of Africa.Mugabe has six degrees and speaks english better than most britons but look at what he has turned Zimbabwe into.Look at our own history.Nigerians have always excelled in academics but in our new democratic dispensation ,all the professors and engineers and "big titled" Nigerians that were employed by OBJ,Yara Dua and now GEJ are unable to solve our problems.A good example is Aganga who was a critical failure though he is educated and has worked for a big firm like Goldman saachs.Even our president is alleged to have a Ph.D but the dude is as dumb as a door nob. What do you atrribute this to?

As i mentioned earlier we need to look deep into our society and in to our culture(conduct studies) to find out why we have not made progress in our respective countries. The idea of teaching our children in our local language is not necessary as we have always come out tops even when we were taught in English language.Beside it won't solve anything because language does not dictate the character of an individual. Before the fall of apartheid the black kids were being taught in local languages through their bantu education system .Today Black south Africans happen to be dumbest blacks i have ever encountered in my life. They are way behind their peers all over the world and quite a number of them can bearly speak a sentence in English.

We need to go back to our moral roots,i mean we need to start from parentinng to teach our kids from a young age to be progressive individuals. If every parent in the Africa can do this ,we will have better results. When i say progressive,i mean that we should teach our kids to be kind to other children ,to be responsible citizens,to be discplined,to be honest,to be willing to serve their nation e.t.c We need to bring up our kids with some sort of military discpline. If we as Africans can do this collectively coupled with giving them a decent education and exposing them to the global community through affordable access to internet ,books, social networking e.t.c You will see that Africa will produce a new generation of discplined individuals who will not participate in ,tolerate corruption or bad governance.

The home usually molds the character of an individual not education.Education only enlightens him but does make him/her a good or bad person.Remember that before western education was introduced to Africa ,we had kingdoms that were ruled by kings and most of them ruled well. Even though they were not educated, they raised armies ,fought wars ,conquered other kingdoms. They had courts which were headed by the king even though they were not educated. They had a relatively organised though primitive society then.

In those days ,kings cared about their people, todays leaders care about their bank accounts.Quite a number of Africa's leaders today are educated but they still manage to screw up their countries. Why is that? Mind you Africa is not the only continent with corrupt leaders.I assure you that leaders in the western world ,your sarchozy, your obamas, your david cameron e.t.c are equally corrupt albeit in a sophisticated and covert way but they do make a positive impact on their societies .Look at the bush family for example ,they are one of the most corrupt people in the world but during the tenures of both bush president they lead like every other American president before them. They provided leadership to their people and obeyed the rule of law.

I think the mistake we make in Africa especially nigeria is to think that only a super educated individual can save us.Take a look at the former president of brazil (Lula da Silva),the dude was more or less an illiterate but he turned the fortunes of brazil around in his second term to the extent that Obama now has to come and kiss the azz of the new president inorder to get brazilians to buy american made goods. Now that is a leader, uneducated but selfless.

What we need in Africa are selfless leaders like Jerry Rawlings of Ghana who was just a navy pilot but wiped out the corrupt leaders of Ghana.Today ,Ghanaians are enjoy the fruits of his selfless and courageous act.Only a selfless person who is willing to listen to the voice of the people can lead a nation successfuly and achieve great results.

I did not want to answer to IRRELEVANT, PATHETIC questions especially when you lacked the depth to answer mine first.

This is Mirroring again, now you are copying me and trying to sound intelligent, stick to being a dummy.

what are going to do "big boy" lol  grin grin grin grin grin you are a first class prat - get lost!
I am not going to do anything.I was just telling you in a polite manner that your upbringing was faulty as you do not have respect for others.I am not suprised anyways as your username has already indicated the kind of person you are and the kind of mindset you have.No matter how much i disagree or verbally fight with someone i will never mention that person's family. It is simple human decency really, something you should have been taught a long time ago.

Now can you zip it so that we don't derail the thread.I am trying to avoid you but you are sh8tting all over the thread like a kitchen rat.  grin

lol! Please show me where I attempted to do so – you appear to have an inferiority complex.

OMG you cannot fathom how killing millions of people equates to your colloquial term “ big boy syndrome? Maybe I am wasting my time here.
You are accusing, abusing and quite frankly you are amusing! You was degrading yourself and your entire family and I simply told you to stop it.
Lol! I thought so,your inability to answer the two questions i posed to you shows that replying to you was a waste of comment space.I see you have no respect for others since it is so easy for you to mention my family even though you do not know me personally.

You should endeavor to engage your brain before you speak and evaluate the consequences of your comments as it affects others. In future do not mention my family or any other person's family in your comments because it is very disrespectful and distasteful.I guess we can all get back to the topic now instead of derailing the thread with childish mumbo jumbo that is irrelevant to the topic at hand.

I read what you had to say and it was impulsive, emotional, sloppy and littered with value jugements; perhaps you could point out what I did not comprehend or maybe you are suffering from your so called "big boy syndrome", if not why would you reply with one line?
Congratulations professor ,"too know dey kill sha".You are trying to prove to everyone that i do not know what i am talking about because you want to appear more learnered than i am.Who is suffering from the "big boy syndrome" now? In case you did not realise you are way off point ,how does people bombing other countries pertain to my first comment  undecided  Over sabi na disease.

If you do not get my point then you have no business being here because you are just an example of the square pegs which i was talking about: people who think they know everything but fail woefully because they are way off key. I mentioned a common trait of  black people and you are whinning about self hatred. You can not become better if you do not take correction.

Answer these questions :

Are African leaders not selfish people?

Haiti that is the first independent black nation on the planet is today a failed because of ?

I am expecting your answer genius!

This is not a "whose Joystick is bigger contest".The Op asked a question ,the best you could have done is to counter my argument in a constructive and intelligent manner not ramble away about an irrelevant issue such as "self hatred".

For example in Yoruba culture do the young not have to bow down to their elders? Are all those older people who insist young ones should bow down rich? Try to stop your self hatred and consider the fact that it may be a cultural trait.

Dose bombing another country thousands of miles away and telling the leader to leave or “we will continue to bomb” sound like a “big boy” syndrome? Dose killing millions of people for oil and other resources sound like a “big boy syndrome”? In fact its more like a GOD like syndrome. stop your self hatred!
Dude you need to read and comprehend. You misinterpreted my comment. What i said is the truth and has got nothing to do with self hatred.
