Investment / Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by plendil: 8:21pm On Nov 28, 2016
PETERiCHY:
From Atedo Peterside: I attended an economic outlook session with top economists and top CEOs today and thought to share some of the perspectives. The session looked at Nigeria's economic direction for 2017. The summary: 2017 will be tougher than 2016. The economy will not recover until 2018, even 2019. Inflation will continue to be high (hovering around 20%)and Naira to dollar will remain in the 450s. With money scarce many more businesses will fold up, leading to job losses and more poverty. With inflation and high exchange rate the banks will not be able to give loans and when they do the interest rate will be too high to afford. With high inflation those with paid salaries are now actually earning less, that is if they will be lucky to keep their jobs... The presentation shows that all sectors of the economy (not just oil) are either falling or already in recession (below zero). Signs are all over: British Airways just converted it's Nigerian office into an agency; almost all foreign airlines now fuel in Ghana; many people now smuggle crops and raw materials out to earn dollasrs; 75% of vacant houses in Ikoyi and VI don't have buyers; Shoprite that opened in Ajah in August is still 70% empty as dollars to bring in goods is scarce and customer count is poor; 5 other big supermarkets in Lagos have closed shop etc.
The experts' advice:
1. Cash is going to be King and whoever has it or has access to it should preserve it.
2. Spend less than you earn; SAVE for the rainy day.
3. Cut down on avoidable merriment.
4. Expect the worst Christmas in 20 years.
4. Look for dollar or pounds-earning businesses if you can.
This is a privileged info, I hope it's useful to you.

Wow! pretty bleak. cry

Bros I think you're the one who needs to get it right. Read my post which you referenced and come back to admit that you had comprehension issues.
Further education and clarification to the general public:
Condom goes just as high up the deek as half way or 3/4 , in the heat of passion when she is dripping wet, her pus.s.y. juices drips down and out, way beyond the protection of the condom, even onto the man's scrotum and groin. (I bet we agree on the above paragraph as you also pointed out in ur post)
Like I said earlier and for benefit of doubt, Warts and herpes (and hepatitis) are contact diseases, and can be transmitted during pre-intimacy by 'groin contact' and in the case of Hep B, by body fluids. Any body fluid such as saliva, sweat etc can transmit Hep B esp if it has been untreated and the receiving partner hasn't received HBV vaccination. Let's not even get started on the pathos of these diseases.
Best way out? Abstinence.
After than? Be Faithful.

No, I don't have comprehension issues, and it would do you well not be so pompous and take correction.
I will indulge you once more:

A condom, properly worn, should cover the entire shaft, not 3/4. Dont misinform the public. see diagram below. Unless one has penile length exceeding 8-9 inches, most condoms, even common gold circle, will comfortably cover the entire length. The issue of dripping p_ussy juice would only likely occur only if the woman is on top.

That is why there should be no genital contact before the condom is worn.

43. Lucky Imasuen:: Just decamped from pdp to APC after being Deputy Governor, SA to Chairman NPA, State Coordinator Sure-P under the PDP.

The list is in-exhaustive but suffice to say that, the above listed individuals have been in charge of Edo state Government and affairs since 1999. They have no political loyalty. They are platform seekers and political dupes.

MY ADVISE:

If any of them in APC tell you again that PDP destroyed Edo for 10 years, take out this list and check whether the liar is there. If he or she is, get a cane and whip the bloody hell out of the liar and thief. This is the beginning of the real change we now crave for.

>> The notorious Dog <<

A DOG used to run up quietly to the heels of everyone he met, and to bite them without notice. His master suspended a bell about his neck so that the Dog might give notice of his presence wherever he went. Thinking it a mark of distinction, the Dog grew proud of his bell and went tinkling it all over the marketplace. One day an old hound said to him: "Why do you make such an exhibition of yourself? That bell that you carry is not, believe me, any order of merit, but on the contrary a mark of disgrace, a public notice to all men to avoid you as an ill mannered dog."

Notoriety is often mistaken for Popularity

That's not what I want to point out , STIs like warts, Hep B and Herpes don't even need to pass through the condom. Once the infected partner's fluid comes in contact with you, Lobatan!
Abstinence is the gold standard, after that comes Be Faithful to your partner.

Isn't the condom supposed to prevent the contact of one partners fluid with the other? undecided undecided undecided

Get it right: STIs like herpes, warts, (not hepatitis) are spread by contact, so condoms may not offer as much protection. On the other hand, for infections spread mainly via secretions (HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and to some extent hepatitis B), condoms can be very effective in preventing transmission. But of course, it will never be 100% effective.

cekhoe:
yes, there are some STIs are that are small enough to go through the pores of a condom but it better than not using at all

Not totally true.

The latex condom which is commonly in used these parts is largely impermeable to most (if not all) microorganisms: https://www.cdc.gov/condomeffectiveness/docs/condoms_and_stds.pdf.
The problem could be the condom was not stored properly or damaged. That of course would compromise its effectiveness.

However, to reiterate what has been said, abstinence and then mutual fidelity remains the best option. But for those that can't abstain, condom use, consistently and correctly can help reduce the risk of infections.

Okay, so if oil provides 70% of government funds, then are you saying that FIRS, Customs and all internally generated revenue provide just 30%. Do your research. When they talk 70%, they talk of Nigerian export. don't confuse yourself. And to talk of the government being unable to pay salaries, read the thread title again. The present economic woes is much bigger than oil.

Speaking of research, do you have facts to back up your rather amusing claims?

While it is true the Oil contributes less than 13% to GDP (in fact its just about 9%), the fact remains that our economy is still LARGELY DEPENDENT ON OIL.

Growth in the Non-oil sector was largely driven by. . . .Agriculture, Information & Communication, Water supply, Arts entertainment
and recreation Education and Other Services which all grew positively while the remaining 19 major sectors, many of which are substantially indirectly dependent on the oil sector recorded negative growth. The non-oil sector accordingly, declined by 0.38% in real terms in the Second Quarter of 2016.
Source: Nigerian Gross Domestic Product Report Q2 2016 GDP Quarterly Reports http://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/

GET it right: in nominal terms Oil currently contributes about 52% total revenue (see attached), but in actual fact it could be well over 80%. it what drives the economy. Taxes and other non-oil receipts are dependent on government spending in form of salaries, infrastructure, etc. And government spending comes from the revenue from its main export - oil.

What was the interest rate then?

This is a lazy man's explanation.

The banks got free government funds, then borrowed to the government at 15% and above... Pure day light robbery.

We are in a recession because we have a flawed economy which was driven by free oil money.

@Bolded, I posed the question to plateon on the other thread, but he couldn't provide an answer.

Justcash:

The effect of the drop in oil price was compounded by the policies of Buhari's administration, which led to a recession. Saudi Arabia is not in a recession.
Secondly, was the government not aware that oil prices was down before deciding to sweep the huge financial Capet off the feet of Nigerian banks? Didn't they know that it would worsen the already bad situation. Government aid banks e.g. Study the impact of US government's bail out of banks and how it helped the US to reemerge. This government should have taken context into consideration. They should have taken a gradual implementation approach. They would have reached the same goal without causing much damage.
The drop in oil prices did not throw Nigeria into a recession. Government's self-destructive policies like the approach in Niger-Delta, unguarded utterances and forex policy that affected local production caused our recession. Oil has risen to $40++, we would have been better than we were 2 years ago when it dropped to $20.

S/Arabia may not be in a recession, but things are far from rosy for them. Some reports even quote the oil sector as being in 'technical recession'. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/3/cdb02eee-4915-11e6-8d68-72e9211e86ab.html#axzz4JHEi1sZO

On TSA: Seriously?? How exactly did the sudden implementation lead to recession? Just how many banks are complaining of lack of cash?

You claim "The drop in oil prices did not throw Nigeria into a recession". In all honestly and with due respect, I take it your being mischievous here.

Just for the records, though i still think PMB was a far better choice than his predecessor, the former has clearly made a lot of wrong moves, which I've roundly condemned him for. However, to lay all the blame of the current situation at his feet is not fair.

If that is really true, by now HIV/AIDS would have wiped out the world. If you see the rate of abortions in Nigeria, you will know many people don't use comdoms . If I may ask, how many people are voluntarily going for test? The white have not really comprehend what causes AIDS . People , especially in developing countries lived and died, at old age, with HIV and without having AIDS. What will you say of a woman who tested positive without her husband, or any of her children positive? I have also seen a man who is positive and his wife and children negative? Those test kits can make you positive if it detect unusual stuff in your system . Even, malaria parasites can make you positive. You may say I'm spewing ignorance, but do some search via Google and by visiting general hospitals.

Sad really.

Virtually every sentence you made is laced with bewildering ignorance which is really pathetic given the information age we live in and the unhindered access to verifiable facts.

You're telling a medical practitioner of over 5years experience in HIV program to 'visit' a general hospital. I laff in greek.

Well, I'm not too busy, let me indulge you a little:

I dont know what part of the country you live in, but if in Ebonyi take a trip to Ebsuth/FMC and tell the about 2000 patients currently collecting ARVs that their disease is a lie. Or if in Enugu, stroll to UNTH and tell the 4000+ patients that they have a fake disease.

In 2014, about 200,000 got infected and about that same number died from AIDs related causes. These are verified facts.

Yes, occasionally, the test kits may give false positives, usually to hepatitis B (NOT MALARIA). That is why Nigeria adopted the serial testing system - Determine, then confirmed by Unigold. In the unlikely event there is a tie, the person is further tested with statpak. In such a case, and provided quality standards are adhered to, a false positive is very, very unlikely.

Positive woman with a negative husband? Of course its very possible. Technically known as serodiscordance, there are many reasons why that happens (which I cant go into right now) and indeed we have a number of cases in our clinic.

In fact, if go to a place like Benue, much of the new infections are occurring in so called stable couples, so its not uncommon to see a positive woman with negative children/spouse. Moreover with proper PMTCT services, the likelihood of a positive mother giving birth to an infected child is less than 1%.

Developing countries that you referred to have their prevalence (number of those infected) as well as new infections a steady decrease. This mainly due their ability to get proper knowledge and overcome the plague of ignorance.

It would do you well to overcome yours.

Men can also get HIV from having vaginal sex with a woman who’s HIV-positive. This is because vaginal fluid and blood can carry HIV. Men get HIV through the opening at the tip of the penis (or urethra); the foreskin if they’re not circumcised; or small cuts, scratches, or open sores anywhere on the penis. Above all ignorant kills faster than HIV

Brilliant!!!

Sadly, people like GossipHeart make up the majority in Nigeria. According the 2012 NARPH plus2 survey, about one in five young adults still had very wrong misconceptions about HIV.

Yes, sex is not the only way, but it accounts for 80% of the new infections. In fact, by this same time tomorrow, about 605 people across the country would have become newly infected with the virus. Shocking, isn't it?

@Gosspheart, it would do you well to take the wise counsel above so don't become another statistic and add to the hundreds I see in the clinic each day.

The implication is that most of these persons are only waiting to get sick or develop a health concern before they patronize their HMO. That is why in developed countries, organizations are now shifting to wellbeing program that focus on the overall health of the people. Although that does not stop them from having an insurance policy in place for emergency cases.

HMOs are collecting money but not providing services - thats the message he's passing across. If you've been to an NHIS centre, you'll appreciate what he's talking about.

It has nothing to do with preventive medicine, which, BTW, is not the job of the HMOs

Politics / Re: Buhari Should Make Jonathan’s Mistakes, Says Omokri by plendil: 6:58pm On Aug 26, 2016
blueto:
when will these people stop attributing Jonathan's success to oil boom and reason with logic?. Nigeria experiences a highly organised and proficient govt under Gej, and his govt made good use of both Human and financial resources for good achievements. For instance, The high technocracy of Jonathan's govt ensured that Conclusive Elections were held, it didn't require ‘oil boom’ for such goal to be attained, it requires good staffing system and assigning people with integrity and dexterity to do the job perfectly.

Buhari should have been able to conduct conclusive elections irrespective of the oil price and supply status.

I'm no fan of PMB, but this is downright mischievous.

Everything listed as GEJ's achievement can be achieved simply by signing cheques in the comfort of his office - thanks to the free unhindered flow of petrodollars.

To say that oil price of almost well over $100 for the most part of his tenure, compared with less than $50 of the present administration, makes no difference is very, very mischievous. stop it.

No be small thing o.

The worse is that this is not the first time such revolt is happening. A similar incident happened earlier this year though it was't as serious as this.

Don't joke with a hungry man ooooo.

For real the news is fake.
I stay at abakaliki (close to the prison actually)and nothing of such happened here. A riot maybe but def no jail break

How is it fake?
The attempted jail break was foiled.

Whether or not there was actual prisoner escape, we cant be sure.

But I'm sure of this: A number of inmates and a few wardens sustained injuries and where taken to FETHA
