These PDPdiots still think they are in primary school where you report noise makers to the teacher. As if US is the class teacher.

PDP should just die and go into extinction in peace, they have already failed to play the role of the opposition in the country.

APC's failures belong to PDP. PDP should have been the one to keep the ruling party on its toes, unfortunately most PDP members have soiled their hands, and are too afraid to speak in the open in case Army General BuBu comes after them with is Kwaropshion chant.

PDP, abeg, fade away in peace.

EducationRe: Sidi Osho: Professor & VC At ABUAD, Then Demoted To A Dr. At OOU. Then Sacked by pmoye(op): 3:05pm On Jan 27, 2020
Sir, you must understand that posting examples of such individuals who failed to 'remedy' their insufficient grade would be in bad taste. If I had no knowledge of actual individuals like this I would not have made the claim. But I do.

I also understand the stipulation that only PhD holder should be promoted to the SL grade, but this is often ignored by universities so as to get the right staff ratio required for accreditation, especially since lecturers in the senior cadre (Senior lecturer, Readers, Professors) are often unwilling to leave government institutions for private universities. Also partly because private universities are often not willing to match the remuneration of these cadres. And so a work around is to effect rapid promotion of their staff, and sometimes without a PhD, to the Senior Lecturer cadre. There are actual examples of individuals who have been so promoted based on their age.

Curiously NUC doesn't seem to be interested in vetting the qualifications of these different academic cadres during resource verification. This is a menace that NUC needs to sit up to curb in our academic institutions.

Mires:
Sir, I am still finding it difficult to appreciate how you got to know that they never "remedied" their poor grade. In today's Nigeria, there's a caveat by NUC that academics who have not acquired PhD shouldn't be elevated or promoted to SL. The much an academic with proven years of experience with MSc can get is L1.

In passing, you have to show evidence of your charges.
EducationRe: Sidi Osho: Professor & VC At ABUAD, Then Demoted To A Dr. At OOU. Then Sacked by pmoye(op): 12:22pm On Jan 27, 2020
No, I am saying that these individuals have not received the necessary training and degrees required for their grade categories. A poor undergraduate degree will require a PGD before masters. This they did not do. A poor MSc grade will require an MPhil either terminally or as MPhil PhD. This they have not done. Yet they were appointed by some universities as Senior Lecturers, Readers and all. And this is because their appointments are mostly based on lobbying and connections which is exactly what the educational system must neither have nor encourage.

I am sure bros you understand the implication of employing unqualified individuals in the educational sector. It has a negative domino effect on all other sectors in the country. The best way to destroy a country is to entrench mediocrity in its educational and training sector. I personally believe that it is these type of unqualified personnel in the university system that resort to the hideous sex-/money-for-grades practice. One will not expect an intellectually sound and academically disciplined individual who has embraced the teaching profession as a calling, to do these evil things. But someone employed without proper qualification will most likely perpetuate this tendency.

CAVEAT: This in no way supports the ridiculous trend and practice of delaying promotion to professorial cadre in our universities until when their lecturers are positively in their old age. This both evil, and malevolent and against national interest.

Mires:
Sir, I want to quickly point out some lapses in your submission.

1.You did mention that some academics had Third Class in their first degree, Second Class Lower and couldn't make PhD grade at MSc level, and are now professors in some private Universities.

There's no law that says that one with the above grades can't further or becomes a professor anywhere in the world. Are you saying in a situation where someone who graduated with MPhil/PhD grade, or MPhil at MSc level and get enrolled for MPhil before progressing to PhD, or is enrolled for MPhil/PhD and successful meet the requirements for the award of PhD, such a fellow shouldn't be promoted to the rank of professor? Common!

In today's Nigeria, no one without PhD is promoted to the rank of a reader not even a consultant with West African College of Surgeons certiification. You should rather say that the person is using fake PhD.

EducationStart Strike Immediately Your Salary Is Stopped, ASUU Tells Lecturers by pmoye(op): 12:09pm On Jan 27, 2020
The Academic Staff Union of Universities has directed its members nationwide to go on strike as soon as the Federal Government stops lecturers’ salaries.
The ASUU chairman of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Dr Adebayo Oni, said this in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents on Sunday.
He said there had been a standing order to commence strike once “members’ salaries are stopped.”
Meanwhile, ASUU has accused unnamed government officials of sabotaging its discussions with the Federal Government on the proposed University Transparency and Accountability Solution.
The ASUU leadership also met with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, about three weeks ago where the proposed UTAS was presented as an alternative to IPPIS.

Buhari had directed the union to resolve the controversy over the IPPIS with the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.

But the Accountant-General of the Federation, Hamed Idris, had last week in a letter asked the Finance Minister not to release funds meant for January salaries to tertiary institutions, saying payments would be made through the IPPIS platform.

The Chairman of ASUU, University of Ibadan, Prof. Deji Omole, on Sunday maintained that the union was ready to pursue its stand.

Omole said it was unfortunate that the “President cannot be trusted.”

He said, “After assuring the union that he would look into the matter and set up committee to harmonise UTAS and IPPIS tabled before him at the last meeting, he had reneged.”

Omole said ASUU rejected IPPIS on point of law, principle and rule of law, adding that an alternative platform called University Transparency and Accountability Solutions could address the problem.

Omole said, “Only patriots can work in the hellish condition in which we work. Our position is that the principles of IPPIS are in contradiction to the principles of the autonomy of the university system and the constitution is clear enough because each university has its legal pattern and it doesn’t have provision for IPPIS.”

You are obviously misinformed. The Union did not rejects IPPIS on sentiment, there are reasons behind the rejection some of which are legal in nature. Until those legal issues are sorted out, no progress can be made.

PMB is open to dialogue on the issue. They wanted him to publically humiliates ASUU during that meeting but he didn't. In stead he bypassed state protocol and directed Minister of Education to act on the Union submission and gets back to him. A responsible aide would have waited for the outcome of the President's directive before taking any further action. But no, the agents of darkness are desperate to plunge the country's university system into crisis.

ASUU is their match. The Union is already aware that the President has nothing to do with this directive. It is the plan of few people around him who are obviously benefiting from it.

It is going to be a long battle.

PoliticsRe: FG, South-West Governors Agree To Formalise Amotekun by pmoye(m): 6:58pm On Jan 23, 2020
This is victory, but let us not celebrate yet. You can never trust this Federal government led by our internal colonial masters, the Fulanis. Let us watch as events evolve very closely. The only reason they backed down from their it is illegal stance is because of the outcry of Nigerians from all parts of the country apart from our self-acclaimed internal colonialists, the Fulani.

If what has been witnessed is anything to go by, they will not backdown in trying to sabotage the operations of Amotekun. As much as possible Amotekun recruitment should be limited to indigenous people of the South West. The very survival of the network depends on this. I have not heard of Hisbah admitting Southerners and Christians into their rank. Amotekun has no reason to cater to the attempt to subject it to federal character.

Then we should start watching Tinubu and other self-serving elders very closely. Political favours will be promised to some of them on the condition that they render the outfit ineffectual. Open confrontation and shameful bullying from Miyetti-Rascals and equivalent individuals has not worked, they will certainly try to collapse the network from within. And the South West does not lack enough traitors and Judases who for a morsel of bread will offer their own mothers, daughters, sisters and wives to be raped by criminally minded individuals. Watch out for these traitors and show them they mean nothing to us.

And lastly, I will encourage the better people of the South East, the South South and the Middle Belt to as a matter of urgency follow suit by evolving their own security networks to secure their regions. Our people should no more be slaughtered by criminals that don't deserve to be human beings in the first place. And let us rally round give our leaders support. Any leader that is compromised let us treat their Bleep ups before they sell our security and lives to the highest bidder.

Spot on.
That's one of the main points. Why should appointments such as this be handed over to individuals with tainted record? This has nothing to do with her personality but everything to do with sanity in the system. The survival of a nation depends on building a strong system that prioritizes merit... And the place of the media is bring things that could have been given a political treatment to the glare of the public. Perhaps, just perhaps, those that hope in the future to ascend to high offices will learn how to sanitize their actions and maintain a clean hand...
She was dismissed for charges bordering on financial misconduct; these are grave issues, and she ought to have appealed and fought these allegations back in 2016 instead of now seeking to change the narrative through the backdoor because of the governor's appointment.

Let our leaders learn to do due diligence before haphazardly appointing just anyone to offices.

If we go through our news you will find out that controversial appointments like this are not new. This should change.

I will try to make this brief.
The reaction against the Op partly shows the level of gender bias entrenched in our society in Nigeria. If the person of interest in that article had been a man, I am sure the reaction would have been different. Many of those commenting would have used the opportunity to take a swipe at ally university lecturers as being sex-starved depraved and incompetent human specimens. But because she is a woman, let us cut her some slack. Right?

This is not about Sidi Osho. I have taken the time and made the effort to investigate her academic and work history, and from what I have gathered so far she remains the best VC that ever worked at ABUAD. In fact rumour has it that she had to leave ABUAD because of her no-nonsense and sensible stance that some power-that-be in the institution did not feel comfortable with. We can not take this away from her. And yes, there is no law preventing a senior lecturer from being appointed the VC of a university. Few years ago a University in the North had a lecturer with a Dr title as the Acting Vice Chancellor. So those that are trying to insinuate that this post was done for an ulterior motive can now change their mind.

I also recommend that those commenting should take the time to read the Punch article attached instead of simply commenting without knowing the full gist of the matter.

I did this post to stimulate a debate, a healthy debate. And No, I am not going to start mentioning names of other academic staff members across Nigerian private universities (especially) that have been unduly promoted to the professorial cadre. We have individuals that are now readers (a professorial cadre) in different private universities who had graduated with third class, and had scored lower than PhD-grade in their MSc, and have failed to obtain a PhD degree, but yet have been promoted to the professorial cadre. You can not make the Wole Soyinka argument for individuals like this. Wole Soyinka and other appointments like him are in the exemption and not the rule, and it is purely because of their unmistakable achievements in their areas of practice. This is completely against the practice in some Nigerian universities that the initial post was intended to stimulate a discourse on.

PhD is not just a title, it is a testament to dedication, discipline and experience in the field an academic has chosen to teach and profess. And yes, certain (few) individuals that have attained this same and more level of experience in the field can be on their merit be elevated to a professorial level though without a PhD but with more than the PhD programme was designed to instill. Now what happens when we arbitrarily circumvent this training and elevate individuals who are not deserving to the post they occupy? What happens to the graduates they produce? What happens to the productivity and contribution to national building of our universities? Your guess is as good as mine.

Please note: Sidi Osho has a PhD and there is nothing wrong about her becoming a VC or being returned to her former post when she returned to her old school. But upon her dismissal, it is morally wrong for a sitting governor to appoint her as a commissioner. And then for the shameful lobbying for the reversal of the dismissal that ensued the moment the governor appointed her. That singular dismissal should have disqualified her from that appointment in a saner clime.

No one sponsored this post. We Nigerians should stop taking sides with what is wrong. We keep complaining that merit is being trampled by the public office holders and that corruption is rife, while some Nigerians have lost their ability to judge an issue without revealing innate corrupt tendencies in their heart.
God bless Nigeria.
And read the Punch news piece before commenting.

EducationSidi Osho: Professor & VC At ABUAD, Then Demoted To A Dr. At OOU. Then Sacked by pmoye(op): 3:33pm On Jan 22, 2020
This is the story of Sidi Osho. I am not exactly sure now whether to address her as a professor or as a doctor. After all she was called professor and vice chancellor at Afe Babalola University in Ado Ekiti between 2009 and 2014, after which she was demoted to a senior lecturer at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ado Iwoye and dismissed for financial impropriety in 2016. She is definitely a woman with many twists in her story. Another twist, after her dismissal Ogun State governor would later appoint her as a commissioner in his cabinet.

What exactly is going on in our academic institutions? This is definitely not the first time that private universities would arbitrarily hand out the professorial cadre to undeserving individuals. ABUAD took this trend to another level by promoting several lecturers who have no PhD degrees or any substantial academic publications to the professorial office. I will do a comprehensive report of the list of professors in private universities in Nigeria without a PhD degree, including vice chancellors (e.g. ABUAD) who without a PhD degree have been awarded professorial cadres. I believe it is a big shame that the Nigerian University Commission has decidedly turned a blind eyes on quality assurance in our educational institutions, especially with respect to private universities where just anything goes.

OOU under pressure to convert Ogun commissioner’s dismissal to retirement
...

The PUNCH gathered that Osho left OOU for Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, where she was appointed the pioneer vice-chancellor in December 2009.

According to the information on her LinkedIn page, she held the position till January 2014 when her tenure expired.

It is believed that Osho returned to OOU after her stint at the private university.
However, The PUNCH observed that in the dismissal letter, said to take effect from March 2016, she was referred to as a ‘Dr.’

An official of OOU said Osho left the university as a senior lecturer.
“I think the authorities of ABUAD will be in the best position to explain, since she was addressed as a professor while in their school,” the source added.
The spokesperson for ABUAD, Mr. Tunde Olofintila, said he met Osho in the university as a professor.
“I met her as Professor Sidi Osho and she was the pioneer VC,” he added.

I agree with you 100% on the points raised. I am not making excuses for bad leadership, but at the same time some of us too will admit that as much as we have bad bosses we have bad employees as well.
I happen to have cause to also work from time to time at an office outside Nigeria, and in my team at the office I have another Nigerian there. This is not a joke: any day the Oga at the top is away for some official engagements this guy does not show up at the office. He one time invited me to join some of his friends on a Friday to a pub visit out of town. I was shocked, told him we have to be at the office, and he thought I had this disposition towards work because I belong to the management staff. He simply advised me to go to the office the Friday morning, clock in with my magnetic card and leave for the pub visit. That I could only return later at night to the office to clock out. I didn't even know how to reply him than to express the sentiment that he had exported his laziness to Europe.

But yes, there are bad leaders, but sometimes it also depends on the employee one asks.

CareerRe: Entrepreneurs Are Ruining Morales Of Employees by pmoye(m): 7:59pm On Jan 21, 2020
I wrote what I wrote because I both understand your experience and that of your former employers.
I have bosses at the place of my work. But I also have a CAC incorporated company with 12 employees.
And I know that no matter how good and considerate the boss is, there are more employees who see their job as no more than an opportunity to get paid regardless of whether or not they are productive.
I hardly waste time in showing these individuals, which sadly are in the majority, the way out.
My pay structure is directly tied to productivity. I have a core pay that I remunerate a particular position with, and their salary increment is directly linked to how productive they each are as determined both by customer feedback and sales report. I do this to make them realize that my staff's financial promotion is directly tied to the profit we make as a company.

Yes, I also know that there are so many horrible bosses out there. Perhaps I am also horrible to a staff that finds it difficult to be responsible for the profit of the company. And no, I NEVER owe my staff salary. God forbid.

I didn't mean to minimize your experience at all, I only tried to point it out that once roles are reversed and you are the boss, you will understand what several employers face.
