PoliticsRe: Proposal For A Country Out Of Eastern Nigeria. by PointB: 10:17pm On Jan 23, 2012
htajz:
eastern nigeria will of course work and its probably  better, every ethnicity will govern itself, we can merge our economies, since we have no history of fighting among ourselves i dont see why people are even bringing it up , every body wants freedom especially the ogonis who have the smallest population. it will be lke a united nations sharing pherhaps military and merging their economies , when the time comes ijaws will either have an only ijaw nation or a combined eastern nigerian nation(though it may not be named biafra), southern nigeria will not work ,let yorubas merge with thier itshekiri and edo brothers.

pls negro nuts and general this is not the time for stupidity and mischief.

as for general its obvious your not from niger delta cause you dont even understand the ethnice make up of niger delta, i have been watching you post slow statements , who ever told you ijaws are at war with any eastern group? all the people we have ever had problem with are in the west of naija thats why i suggested they join thier yoruba brothers lets live with people that have not been giving us headache.
Eastern Nigeria would have worked if not for the sabotage during the war, and other vices. But nevertheless, Igbo have put all those behind them as evident from the support we gave GEJ before, during, and after the election. The good thing is that, Igbos are ever ready to render such support to any region of the old eastern regions, if and when the need arise. Those who are in doubt should evaluate the deal they got from 'friends' across the Niger, and compare notes!

That said, and as you rightly pointed, there were no history of war among the old eastern region. And those members of old Eastern region who keep thinking that Igbos are after their oil, look at it this way: Is the oil not been 'stolen' by larger Nigeria nation, and used to develop regions and places that an average SSners will never dream of going to live - Abuja, Kano, and some places in Lagos. In any case, SE has proven reserve of oil and gas. Besides, Igbos survived on commodity, and enterprise, and it will take a while to change the disposition of a hard-working Igbo man to rely on sole on oil. By the way, Innoson, Zinox, and Nollywood are big business on their own. Let's not forget in a hurry the brains behind it.

Simply summarised, Igbo have oil, and we don't need SS oil!
PoliticsRe: Acn Condemns Plan To Handmaritime Security To Private Firm by PointB: 10:01pm On Jan 23, 2012
manny4life:
No this is WRONG, How can you hand over the nations maritime sector to a private security firm? huh huh huh

For those who are saying that U.S. hired private security contractors while in Iraq, that is a whole different ballgame. Those security contractors had different responsibilities such as protecting U.S. and foreign dignitaries such as Ambassadors and Consul official etc. Their responsibilities were DIFFERENT. In this case you have a maritime sector that falls under the jurisdiction of the FG, this is not supposed to be privatized. In the U.S., the United States Coastal Guard hold the Maritime responsibilities of the United States from law enforcement, coastal offense and defense, etc.

President GEJ, this is a dangerous move, if these were port security, that's different but for the whole nation maritime sector which extend way beyond the ports, answer is NO.
My brother manny4life, I understand where you are coming from. But the bottom line is that, this might even be a propaganda by ACN who are known to speak from two side of the mouth. At the end of the day, if and when the details of this matter is fully disclosed you might found out that ACN is just screaming wolf where none exists.

At any rate, let us not be close minded to new ideas, their might be strategic reasons for some of these policies.

PoliticsRe: Proposal For A Country Out Of Eastern Nigeria. by PointB: 4:01pm On Jan 23, 2012
The idea will work on the basis of the fact that each components of the federating nations will retain economic autonomy, while at the same time maintaining their cultural identity. The multiciplity of capitals will also engender infrastructures and economic growth of respective regions. It is indeed a great and workable idea

Despite the urgent security issue threatening Nigeria, government should carry on with other developmental program. In order words deploy military to the north and infrastructure to the south. Life must go on!
PoliticsRe: This Is The Time To Declare "The Republic Of Biafra" by PointB: 3:11pm On Jan 23, 2012
^^There is no assumption here. Because you cannot deny the fact that Igbos in south south would gladly join Biafra - hence the frequent use of the word SS/SE. And if fellers is anything to go by Ijaws, Ogoni will most likely want to be part of the new Biafra. Can't say much about the other ethnic groups in SS.
PoliticsRe: Controversy Over Move By U.S. to Label Boko Haram A Terrorist Group. by PointB: 11:04am On Jan 23, 2012
Nigeria need US support more than ever to smoke out these terrorists from our midst. It is obvious that this BH terrorist organisation has link to other major terrorist group? Or is the US waiting for these group to export their trade to the US homeland before the wake up from the silly debate. BH is a terror group and the US should designate them as such and deploy whatever resource necessary to tackle then.

clearly Nigeria does not have the know how and resource to deal with the issue. Calling for external help from US, UK, Israel, and other nation with experience in terror fighting is not something to be ashamed of. The sooner the US and these other nation take up the gauntlet, the better and safer for the rest of us. Come and rescue us from this BH terror US!
PoliticsRe: Sss & Police Tightens Security Around Their Headquarters And Barracks In Niger by PointB: 10:50am On Jan 23, 2012
Self preservation is the first principle of existence. If the security agent cannot protect themselves, there is no way they can protect the rest of us.
PoliticsRe: Acn Condemns Plan To Handmaritime Security To Private Firm by PointB: 10:45am On Jan 23, 2012
I think this move will move Nigeria closer to leaner government. Creating another government agency to run maritime security is akin to creating another inept ministry that will only go cap in hand to government for funding rather than generating any. So far the private security firm has the competence and capability, why not.

Those who see conspiracy in every move are either paranoid or are simply worried others are catching up with their practice. Whichever the case, the move remains a good one and ACN is just crying wolf where none is in sight. Wonder the kind of clowns that run that party!

But clearly boko haram is a terrorists organisation. The US should not waste any time further debating the obvious. We need drones in the sky and boots on ground to curtail this evil of terrorism. The more time it take for such to happen the more the people whose lives are needlessly lost.

PoliticsRe: This Is The Time To Declare "The Republic Of Biafra" by PointB: 9:09pm On Jan 22, 2012
Splitting is desirable and of course it will solve a lot of problem. Boko Haram issue for example can be solved by splitting. Corruption will reduce cos the new nation will be more eligataran than the old. There is no guarantee that the new nations will be run by the same leaders. And by the way clearly not all our leaders are corrupt.

the new nations will have new zeal and new spirit and awareness and will be necessary make the mistakes of the old one.

but the issue is timing. Timing is very critical success factor for the split.
PoliticsRe: Senate Should Impeached President & VP by PointB: 3:32pm On Jan 22, 2012
@Knowall
how do you mean not a single bomb when Obj was the president? How about the thousands that lost their lives in kaduna and kano during the sharia debacle. Is it not obvious that Obj inability to deal with sharia craze in the north during his time is directly responsible for boko haram plan to enthrone the practice everywhere now?

how about obj running battle with MEND and several crisis from OPC during his tenure? Obj shortsightedness and his vindictiveness is mostly responsible for the situation of Nigeria. He could have done a couple of things right but he chose not to. Obj was a colossal failure.

@topic
SE will not be used to betray SS or GEJ and attempt to impeach the president will never ever be muted at the NASS let alone followed through. And Nigeria cannot wage war against Ijaw or any SS ethnic group without the explicit permission of the Igbo. A permission you will never have. So perish your hatred for Ijaw and your desire for their oil. It is vain wish.
PoliticsRe: This Is The Time To Declare "The Republic Of Biafra" by PointB: 2:07pm On Jan 22, 2012
Interesting suggestion by the OP, but the problem is that there is still a lot of potential for miscaculation.

If biafra were to emerge, there would have been concrete agreement not only with the SS and SW leadership, but also with the middlebelt states like Benue and Jos.

While it is possible to get a No-fly zone in matter of weeks, a well trained and well armed militant group need to be on ground in case of possible skirmish with overzealous men of the NA.

The situation is very fluid, and care must must be taken not to once again unite the whole country against a new nation. When things appear easy, great caution must be applied. And whatever we do, Igbos must not, must not be seen, and must not be used to betray GEJ. He is our cousin; he said he is one of us. Whether this is correct or not, we must not betray him for providence sake. Which means he must have a say no matter how insignificant in the biafra agenda!
PoliticsRe: Splitting Nigeria Now Would Have Devastating Consequences On The South by PointB: 9:02pm On Jan 21, 2012
Splitting Nigeria will have consequence for all the emergent nations. But then it would be teething problem and they will all get over it in due course.

I also do not accept the notion that Islamic expansionist would easily overrun the south. That idea is baseless.

Have they overran the Berom, Tiv and other minorities tribes in the north, let alone venture southward. In the worse case scenario, the expansionist agenda will be assimilated by the Yoruba in middle belt - Kwara and Kogi, with little or no impact on the demography of core yoruba states.

Even the idea of major war in the event of violent split will still have to contend with rapid deployment of UN peacekeepers to separate warring regions.

@Nateev,
Yes she did the right thing removing the subsidy to understand the problem. Don't forget the whole mess started when the calculating Obj booted her from the finance ministry in favour of Ciroma. How can we blame NOI for a fraud enthroned by Obj. Rather we should commend both GEJ and NOI for having the courage to expose this, even if they have chosen to do it indirectly.

As to why this fraud persist till now. Is it not obvious that time is needed to study the corruption before you expose it. And for that I still give credit to NOI for her decision to expose it rather than cover it up. It shows we still have people of integrity in government. HOPE IS NOT ALL LOST.

Now let Obj and Ciroma tell us the part they played enthroning this scam.
PoliticsRe: Okonjo-iweala Testifies Before Subsidy Probe Committee - Live by PointB: 2:30pm On Jan 19, 2012
@LadyT,
I don't agree her head should roll first. It is very basic. She resumed in September and her very first task was to prepare the budget. In the course of doing that she discovered several anomalies: entrenched and complex anomalies far too difficult to understand within the time frame for the budget. In between understanding the problems and stopping the leaks she was able to deal with some of the pension and salary sleaze in the police using biometrics system.

Now most of the anomalies discovered during budgets preparation all have their sources in a complex system called - subsidy. To understand the problem better, you have to unveil the subsidy! Tough as it was, that was what she did. All in the nick of time.

If you look beyond sentiment, you will understand she did the right thing.

Now let us deal with the mega fraud behind the subsidy and bid the practice good bye. Who knows maybe our refineries might start working again.

Don't drag the good people of Lagos into this madness of a few. The good people of Lagos are not area boys and jobless individuals often found at protest ground. You represent yourself, and are clearly in the minority.
PoliticsRe: Okonjo-iweala Testifies Before Subsidy Probe Committee - Live by PointB: 2:07pm On Jan 19, 2012
There in no way in this world that Nigeria would accept subsidy removal without protest. However, the organisers lost the plot when they started murmuring 'regime change.'

My opinion on this saga is that since NOI resumed in September 2011, she has been taking a lot of time trying to unravel the mesh that is subsidy fraud. The decision to stop the subsidy was the missing link in the mesh. Being able to come this far into unravelling this mess in less than four months is very commendable.

Now let the heads roll!

Then what is stopping the revolution? Get it over and done with and hope you have your Nigeria when you are done.

While it cannot be denied that past presidents enthroned corruption and massive shenanigan at the centre, what we have now is a president who is sincere enough to expose this system by refusing to part with more money in the name of subsidy. The Nigerian people, civil societies, NASS and security agents have all latched on to details of this massive sleaze, lets see what they come up with. If however, other Nigerians think revolution is way to go, by all means let them slash and burn; perhaps that will be the signal we are waiting for.

Now beaf is right! What have the state and local government done with their montly allocation? Are they not answerable to the people they are closer to? Do they exist as to keep going cap in hand to Fg every now and then for money they don't account for? Is true and fiscal federalism not desirable and practicable? What is all these fuss about government at the centre?

Nobody remember the bravely and courage of Akunyili when she struck deep from the inside - into the heart of the cabal. Without Akunyili intervention, all those SNG marches would have been a wasted jamboree. But, my erudite colleagues from the SW conveniently forget such important intervention in their haste to take away Igboman credit.

Oga give us some credit now, haba! You have been told severally that the systems in Igboland does not encourage street protest. But the strike was well observed by private and government workers.

Now let me ask you, if not for the presence of 'area boys' and other hoodlums extorting money from people and intimidating traders, do you think informal sector workers will not go out in search of their daily bread? No?

My general suggestion is that strike should not affect non-salaried workers; if you see if from that angle you will begin to appreciate the challenges faced by SE/SS most who work in the informal sector.

Abeg, cut us some slacks and give credit where it is due! cool cool cool

In any case, Nigerians have protested against corruption to no-avail. I will march if the focus is on true fiscal federation; confederation, or outright split!

Cacophony of reasons for marching is not helpful - get a central focus!
