I don't understand some of these Yoruba poster! What issue do you have with a referendum to split the country into North and South?

I think sensible southerners should support this move!

i have no problem with sw been added to the protest, but that is for SW guys to advocate not for me.

as for the relationship between ss and se, i don't know how many times you want to hear it. Igbos are very significant part of ss, and there lies our interest and connection.

This is one protest SE and SS should seriously mobilize for. Please the organisers should readout for their compatriots in the SE zone so that the attendant will be huge. This will be the mother of all protest!

I didn't intend to blame Islam for the systemic and abysmal failure that is the core north. But I have looked far and hard and can't seem to lay my hand on anything else but Islam and indeed their culture!

lets compare note. 40 years after the civil war, SE/SS competes favourable and indeed better in some HDI with SW, despite the very glaring disadvantaged take off position of the former after the war! What happened to the NE and NW? What stopped them from making progress? The war ravaged region of the core south? Or the fun loving, easy going SW?

Even today the NC in forging new identity which is drawing further and further away from Islam is making steady progress! But our sharia and militant brothers from core north are still grappling with basic disease like polio? They are still struggling to understand simply logic like going to 'school' to prepare for the future in a fast moving and dynamics world? They are happy roaming they whole of Africa with herds of cow, cloak and dagger! In 21st century! Something they should have abandoned after replacing the groundnut pyramids with silos!

Indeed ekt_bear, they don't need PointB nor do they need a soothsayer to tell them that if changing of orientation can help the middlebelt, they are not irredeemable!

BUT core North must evolve and adapt or 'die!' The theory of evolution they detest, has come back to hunt them. I would gladly join in singing the dirge when another dinosaur go into willful and self inflicted extinction! Nature must take it course!

Splitting the darn country is my first choice! Adopting Christianity is a second option if we must 'be equally yoke!'

I do agree that we practice the most moderate form of Christianity in Nigeria which has given the country the kind of secularity which itself promote peaceful co-existence and tolerance in the south.

this brand of Christianity which also promote open mindedness and innovative ideas is what I believe will move the core north closer to any semblance of utopia! Frankly speaking, Islam has let Core North down. A religion which adherents frown at the time tested and trusted 'western education' is to me anachronistic. Its time the think of adopting a more 'user friendly' religion.

I learnt Buddhism is not a bad one too. Perhaps, it might serve them better! Just my opinion.

Indeed no one want to give up his religion, culture etc but would rather the other fellow give up his aspiration, way of life, etc just to blend in.

This country is perhaps to diversed and too disunited. We are not driven by same spirit or national philosophy. It is time we have a least one common denominator split the darn it. And based on my believe that majority share your sentiment and mine on Christianity as a more amenable religion, I think having it as a national common denominator will solve some of our developmental problem.

Not forcing anyone to convert to Christianity. Just felt that Christians generally are less prone to suicide bombing and terrorism compared to Muslims. And if this is the case, shouldn't we prescribe it as solution to some of our national problem? Just some thought in the spirit of absurdity!

Ak47man, why won't what is good for them be possible? Do you see poor Christians in the south commiting suicide bombing? Something is very wrong with the system in the north. For the absence of other evidence, I think the problem is misunderstanding, misappplication, and mismanagement of religious information. But since this sort or problem is not pronounced in the south, I am passing the southern success secret to them freely! Be your brother keeper!

I wonder why it is difficult for some of you lots to understand Gov Okorocha point of view.

His job is simple: prevent a massive exodus of Igbo from the north, and secondly prevent reprisal attacks. A job he has so far handled professionally. That said, the lives of southern Christian and Igbos specifically continue to be threatened by this violent sect, and to that extent Igbo have every reason to be concerned; history is also a very good reason for this.

In the thread open by OnlyTruth that Igbo should not leave the north, it was debated and concluded that based on the analysis of trend especially after Kano attack, Igbos were not specifically targeted. And a call for vigilance was issued. So those of you will still hold on to the pre-kano perception of Igbo being targeted are simply ignorant of the current thinking even among NL Igbo.

Then again the problem with some of these 'igbo are not targeted' poster have a lot do do with  the kind of value they place of the life of their people. In Igboland life is sacred and everyone has to be accounted for and mourned appropriately. To do this effectively, the dead must be properly enumerated and documented as against the practice of some tribes to accept their fallen as collateral damage with no intention of documenting.

Perhaps the question we should be asking ourselves is: Why is it always core north, and why must Christians who are mainly southerners and middle belters be targeted in their seasonal violence?

The article is very mischievous and indeed economical with the truth and timeline.

Before Yusuf was killed boko haram adherents were on rampage attacking police stations and churches with dangerous weapons. They practically made their part of world violent and unstable. I don't also agree that the police provoked their attacks by killing boko haram members on a funeral procession for not wearing helmet. There is more to it. If you asked me, knowing the mentally of Islamic sects, i would say they actually attacked the police first, who then acted in self defence.

Islamic sects are known to use violent to promote their agenda, so killing their leader is just a convenient excuse for them to continue what they are well known for.

On this note, I don't agree that government should dialogue with them for provoking the attacks. They should lay down their weapons and surrender themselves for trial for innocent citizens they have killed in cold blood.

the killers of their leader are currently undergoing trials as we know. So they have no basis to continue their murderous rampage!
