@Bliss4lyf, don't let those cows cow you with their foul mouth. It is the responsibility of every sane citizen to support the subsidy removal. To this end you are doing a marvelous job. Kudos. This subsidy removal will checkmate corruption at high level, stimulate local refining and encourage the building of more refineries in the country. people will suffer in the short term, but in the medium to long term Nigeria will be better for it. NLC/TUC protest is an illegality. This matter is not an industrial dispute, so what is the point of asking workers not to go to work? NLC/TUC should be fighting casualisation of workforce, increase in wages and other workers benefit. Leading this illegal strike action is a misplaced priority. If I were HR of companies, I will seriously query those who refuse to come to work especially in view of the national industrial court injunction. to fellow workers out their, please don't be use by NLC/TUC and their oil marketers collaborators and sponsor to perpetuate illegality, please think again, when the chips are down, they won't come to your aid. Be wise! |
^^^ Chime understands the long term benefit of the removal. He is one of the very intelligent and hard working governors in Nigeria. He is not a crazy chap. |
The look and feel of it is like and occupy lagos protest. Carry on o o. I and my folks are staging occupy Nairaland. ![]() |
Why would sane people protest a good policy? Removal of fuel subsidy will encourage local refining and hence more employment in the medium to long term! Smart people understand this and are willing to give it's chance! |
just to be clear, I agree with Okonjo Iweala! |
Seconded! |
5. Sick people will be unable to go to hospital 6. Poor Nigerians will be molested on the road 7. Many poor people will lose the source of livelihood to rascals and vandals 8. Many poor will lose limbs or life in the riots and strikes 9. Cost of living will rise further and may never come down even if the subsidy is reversed on a positive note; 10. Some poor people will benefit from being hired by politicians and labour leaders 11. Sign printers and banners makers will have field day |
@nchara, you heard from haka_nai there is a template for this type of defensive maneuver. Igbos who choose to stay for obvious reasons should band together in groups and provide security for themselves by living in enclaves/stronghold. Like the sabon gari in Kano. @jakumo, thanks for clearing the air on the technicalities involved in bearing arms. I hope the law is amended ti provide the use of such arms in self defense. The stake are high, bearing arms for defensive purpose will at least level the playing field. @Nchara, despite all the options available, as Kats noted, there will still be southerners especially Igbo who will remain in the north. they reserve the right to go down fighting at the very least, legally bearing arms will assure them of the right. |
Flash points will always gain more attention by the security personnel, bearing arms will give them fighting chance and increase their survival rate while at the same time reducing the frequency of the attacks. Why do you think the Berom in Jos are still standing despite the size of the fulani/hausa attackers. like I said earlier those who have no interest to protect should return while those who have cogent reason to stay should be armed and ready and possible take the fight to identified targets. If the north is to be declared a war zone so be it! |
Please Nigerians should protest so that Tinubu/Oando and Co. continue enrich themselves with free oil from Niger Delta while oil producing states continue to be deprived of developmental funds! |
Defending themselves at least until the government improve security is what is being proposed. But if Igbos in the north are to return back is should be to Biafra, as long as we remain One Nigeria, the battle ground should be outside Igboland. |
Sahara Reporters! |
Perhaps some indolent Nigerians wanted another three day holidays. Otherwise it really a pointless protest. Were I to be the president, i will not bulge! |
Bearing arms is a good idea. @Nchara, when the intruder know that the would be victims are armed to teeth like them, the would be more cautious in their approach. It would require more planning, larger number, and serious coordination for any successful attack to take place. This difficulties will leave a lot of trail due ti potential for mistakes. And they would also suffer casualties. I am with Knowall in this. personally, i don't agree that every Igbo should live the North unless of course to Biafra. Those with no serious interests to protect and women and children should return but others can and should stay. Standing up, mobilizing, and conducting preemptive strikes to protect themselves is what I would suggest. A faceless vigilante group oiled by Igbo businessmen in the north is appropriate at this point in time. |
Whatever resolution passed by the lower house will still have to be seconded by the senate. And of course the president still have the right to exercise veto power. |
Nice tips. Thanks Nchara. |
^^He explained in clearly, if you have an alternative explanations why don't you offer it rather than hiding behind the overflogged ethnic bias accusation. |
To those still angling for protest strike, have you realised that since the argument is now that the strike is not and industrial dispute and the NIC has no loco standi to issue a restraining order, it therefore also implies that NLC has no right to ask workers to go on strike and certainly also no power or right to picket offices what open. Further implication is that workers of both private and government sectors are expected at theire places of work. Only informal sectors and self employed individual can conveniently join in this strike action at their own risk. Road Transport Association of Nigeria has assured that they will be rolling out their services and won't be joining the strike, so using unavalibility of transport means as excuse will not be tenable at most offices. finally, this proposed strike action is an opportunity for the unemployed youth to besiege offices with their application letters, their would certainly be a lot of vacancy emanating from this misguided and illegal strike action. One lazy protester is an opportunity for the unemployed! |
Best news of the day! Stopping this silly strike is a patriotic duty. Kudos to the judiciary! |

^^^^^^ ^^ Tell us how easy is is for a poor man to stockpile food and money. And while you are at it, kindly educate us on how the tomato and vegetable seller can preserve his/her produce during the indefinite strike whiles at the same time have enough money for food. like I said NLC remedy is more painful than the malaise it seeks to cure. It is elitist! |
^^^ Nobody is saying you should not embark on strike. What we are saying is to protest for reasonable things and issues. Nigerians are been massacred in the north by the day no one is protesting! does it occur to you that if and when retaliatory attacks starts in the south and the nation's unity is called to question by another civil war, the stupidity of of protesting for free fuel will be very glaring? and some wonder why their is apathy for fuel subsidy protest in the south east and south south! In my opinion protesting for subsidy sustenance is silly and lazy! |
Well said RTAN. Way to go! It's refreshing to see unions who understand what is at stake here and are ready to support a beneficial program as opposed to handouts. If the transporters roll out their vehicles, private employees will surely make it to their offices. Labour has committed a tactical blunder with this untoward strike actions they are calling. It will fail flat. |
SNG? Where is Bakare today? Bunch of political hacks! |
Well said. But as usual this gospel truth will fall into deaf ears. Foolish people protesting for all the wrong reason. And they keep wondering why smarter people refused to join them. |
Well spoken Jang. I doff my hat! |
A covenant of convenience. Reminds me on the Core North and Middle belt relationship. Christians in kano should not be deceived, after the protest comes the boko haramites. Does the covenant cover Christians against these terrorists? |
^^ In any case pure water is more or less a luxury item and is in no way an essential commodity. Many will resist paying a fortune for it. that said I agree with you that sooner or later the masses are bound to tire. Poor People have to go out in other to survive, i don't see labour keeping them at home for too long! Watch out for the grocery stores and markets. Labour has messed up big time. |
Disingenuously making excuses for fashola, but never any foe iwela et al. I laugh in hypocrisy! at any rate damning the jobless protesting lawyers by fashola is very appropriate. Smart and forward looking hardworking and confident people support fuel subsidy removal. Enough said! |
@Jason Wait until pure water become 20 during the strike to understand what I mean. by the way long before the subsidy removal pure water sells for 10 naira in SE and nobody has made an issue out of it! |
