Not needed. Night travel should be a function of demand and supply. If there are passengers willing to take the risk, and transporters wilingl to convene them, what then is the fuss about?

It is the duty of responsible government (state and federal) to provide the necessary guarantee of security. Or is the police no longer a 24 hrs service?
PoliticsRe: Enugu To Provide Free Wireless Internet by PointB: 2:49am On Aug 05, 2011
@ Topic,

It's a commendable move by the Enugu state government. Information is a right in 21st century.
Those who fault this move are also those who will fault Nigeria Communication Satellite initiatives.

Actually, it was Tinubu's administration.

To be honest, you are quite right. getting more better heads will probably be profitable.
however, i dont think he has been working alone to execute his government policies. He has gotten his own immediate staffs, the civil service, permanent secretaries and probably board of state parastatals. Anyway, the commissioners have been sent to the house for approval i guess, lets see how it goes. wink
Correction taken.

We'll wait and see. And honestly I wish the governor well. His success will have an impact directly or indirectly on every Nigerian, so I pray he turns out well.

PoliticsNigeria Ranks 19th On Terrorism Risk Index by PointB(op): 4:33am On Aug 04, 2011
Nigeria Ranks 19th on Terrorism Risk Index

Nigeria occupies nineteenth position on the list of “extreme risk” countries and territories, according to the latest Terrorism Risk Index (TRI) released by Maplecroft.
Maplecroft, a United Kingdom-based risk analysis and mapping firm, has an international team of 75 multidisciplinary experts-including over 50 research analysts.

It provides services used extensively by leading global corporations across all sectors, governments, United Nations agencies and international non-governmental organisations.
It developed TRI to enable business to identify and monitor the risks posed by terrorism to employees and assets in 197 countries.
In the latest TRI released by the firm, 20 countries and territories were rated as “extreme risk,” with Somalia, Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan topping the list in that order. These top four countries also sustain over 75 per cent of world’s fatalities from terrorism.
Other countries rated as extreme risk include the newly independent South Sudan (5), Yemen (6), Palestinian Occupied Territories (7), DR Congo (cool, Central African Republic (9), Colombia (10), Algeria (11), Thailand (12), Philippines (13), Russia (14), Sudan (15), Iran (16), Burundi (17), India (18), Nigeria (19) and Israel (20).

.
.

It cited the activities of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), which it said had launched attacks beyond the Delta, in Abuja, the nation’s capital city.

It is, however, important to note that the ranking of Nigeria was based on the data available on terrorist incidents over the 12 month period prior to April 1, this year.
Lately, there had been series of bomb attacks in the northeastern states of Borno and Bauchi, and North-central state of Niger by Boko Haram. Mid-June, the group struck in the heart of the nation’s capital detonating a bomb at the car park of the Nigeria Police headquarters.

Single tenure: Northern senators hold crucial meeting, fear hidden agenda

A majority of senators from the North are not comfortable with the single-term proposal of President Goodluck Jonathan, THE PUNCH has learnt.

Sources told our correspondent on Wednesday that some powerful politicians from the region believed the North would be short-changed if the bill became law. This was the conclusion of a meeting of Northern Senators that held before the Senate went on recess last Thursday, the sources said.

A Senator, who attended the meeting, told our correspondent that the lawmakers had appraised the proposal and concluded that it was not in the interest of their region.

Day of reckoning for Oluwole fraudsters *as security agents raid hideout

Activities at the notorious Oluwole market located at the central area of Lagos went on as usual, last Sunday, when all of a sudden, an unprecedented invasion of the area by some security agencies changed the course of the day.

Comptroller Abass

The area is noted as as haven for criminal activities of all sorts, ranging from rape, robbery and forgery in the highest order.

The security agents comprising personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Police Force and the State Security Service immediately went into action by arresting some of the unlucky individuals who could not escape.

Recovered at the end of the raid aimed at putting paid to activities of forgers were several fake international e- passports, fake NYSC certificates, fake vital government documents etc.

Investigation by Crime Alert revealed that the illegal businessmen operating in the area usually played on the gullibility of desperate Nigerians who intend traveling out of the country at all cost.

Recovered at the end of the raid, according to him, were more than five hundred incriminating items in hard disk of the recovered equipment.

Some of these items include; blank NYSC certificates, WAEC, National ID card, statements of numerous banks, sample signature of government officials in many federal ministries, departments and agencies, Nigeria's Coat of Arm seal, counterfeit visa, vignettes of some countries like India, South Africa as well as numerous e-passports and stamps of enforcement of other immigration facilities"

Certificates of universities like the University of Lagos, Lagos State University, Edo state Univerisity, Ekpoma, Ahmadu Bello University, Yaba college of education, Rivers state University and blank NYSC call up letters were also recovered.

Acknowledging the support of other security agencies towards achieving the feat, Abass informed that the arrested suspects who were currently being investigated risked spending their lives in prison, or spend at least seven years in prison, depending on the magnitude of the forgery.

Not that anything is wrong with it (constitutionally or otherwise). However, I think there is wisdom in the saying - two good heads are better than one.
Judging from comments, he (Aregbesola) had his breakthrough working as a commissioner in fashola's administration. This goes to show that getting the right people and quickly too, to work with you is very critical in governance. Two (good people) can achieve better result than one! You can't govern alone! My two kobo.
PoliticsArmed Robbers Raid Bank With Grenades In Osun by PointB(op): 3:17am On Aug 03, 2011
Excerpt:

“They sprayed bullets at first. After that died down, they threw their hand grenades at the bulletproof door of the bank which shattered under the force of the dynamites. After the door had been pulled down, they gained entry and began their operation.

“They appeared well trained; they cut the clips of the grenades with their mouths, threw them at the door and lay down on the floor. After a grenade goes off, they will throw another and lay on the floor to avoid being rocked by the blasts.

.
.
.

Riot policemen arrived the scene shortly after the robbers had fled through Ilesa-Oboko roundabout and this enraged some residents, who attacked the policemen.

One of the policemen was wounded and held hostage by the residents and it took a reinforcement of policemen for him to be rescued.

The situation took a dramatic turn when policemen engaged some of the residents, especially commercial motorcycle operators in a free-for-all.

^^^^ I am actually curious as to reasons behind the delayed appointment of commissioners - omission or commission? One would have thought that in those difficult period when he was fighting to regain his stolen mandate, he would have taken steps to prepare for governance - commissioners included. Anyway, since they say the man has good antecedents, let's watch and see.

shocked shocked shocked

Abeg yarn me tory ;DI also would like to see how Abiola died while meeting US envoy !
Oputa: Susan Rice served Abiola his last tea, says Abdulsalami's CSO (Wednesday, 26th September, 2001)
"on 7th July, 1998 an American delegation came to see the C-In-C (Gen. Abubakar); the C-In-C called me and said I should make arrangement for the delegation to see Chief M.K.O. Abiola. I called ASP Zadok and told him to prepare Abiola to see the delegation at Aguda House.

"I went to where Abiola was detained and together we headed to Aguda.

"On our way to Aguda, there was a call requesting for the keys to office of the Chief of General Staff. I directed Zadok to go and attend to the CGS' request before he will come back. I instructed him to leave Abiola’s car behind as if we finished before him with the delegation, Abiola would be taken back to his place.

"Members of the American delegation at the meeting were Thomas Pickering, Susan Rice and Ambassador Williams Twadell and at the meeting Chief Abiola cracked some jokes with them. When they asked him if he was in good health condition, Abiola said I am well expect for my swollen legs.

"At this juncture, the steward came in with some refreshment, tea and coffee. Pickering and Twadell took coffee, Susan Rice opted for tea while Abiola declined taking anything. After few minutes, Abiola started coughing continuously. Susan Rice urged him to take tea. I got up from the point I was watching with the intention to go and serve Abiola the tea, but Susan Rice, being the only woman present decided to serve him the tea and when she did I went back and sat down.

"Even after the tea, his coughing continued. He then went into the toilet and as I was about going in to meet him, he was coming out. He looked very tired and was sweating. He asked me if he could get his cough syrup and I asked the body guards to go and fetch Abiola’s syrup. He then entered back to the delegation and said he was feeling cold. We put off the air conditioner, he then said he was feeling hot and we in turn, opened the windows.

"Susan Rice suggested that he be taken to the hospital and I called Dr. Wali on my mobile phone and told him there was an emergency that the chief was very sick and he should come immediately. It took him (Dr. Wali) exactly seven minutes and 40 seconds to get to us.

"When Dr. Wali arrived, Abiola was still lying on the floor coughing. We fanned him, put him in a vehicle and drove straight to the emergency ward in the Aso Clinic. All of us were in the room, we forgot about the protocol that this was an emergency room restricted to only doctors and nurses. We were all in there.

"I informed the C-In-C of Abiola’s sickness and he was very worried. While we were there (hospital), I saw the CGS arrive without his cap and a driver; he was asking what is it? Not this hour. Seeing the condition he was in, I did not want him to give a wrong impression to our visitors, delegation, so I asked him to go back.

"I informed the C-In-C that the medical team was at work and he directed that we should contact Babagana Kingibe to bring the family to see what was happening to him (Abiola).

"At exactly 1 hour 20 minutes, Chief Abiola gave up and Susan Rice asked us to accept our (their) condolence.
