Taal17: So what? Change your ticket dates...most airlines will do that.
Speak with HR that you have a prescheduled vacation and ask when would you be able to take that leave. Let them give you that time frame and book your tkt for that time.
It's not that kind of ticket - changing the date plus fees, etc amounts to paying almost full price again. They offered insurance whereby you can change the date but I didn't take it
otunbadan: You ma self are asking online warriors with different opinions and u are giving the details in a flash .... 1. If its visitor visa, don't come ... use you job hold body first .... if you have visitors visa, visit and go back , (its out of the ordinary to have visitor's visa changed to any other type)
2. If its student visa, hold enough money for up keep because finding a job is not easy ( but if na weather you go find, you will, but depending on the time and skill set, but u most find job but i will take a while)
3. If any of the above is still in doubt in terms of resources available, better don't come
BUT IT WON"T CHANGE THE FACT THAT DOLLAR WILL HIT 2K FASTER THAN WE THOUGHT AND THAT ALONE, together with Nigeria being Nigeria,
CANADA IS A FAR BETTER PLACE IF YOU READY TO START LOW AND build ooo !!!
NO bodies father kept land for his to just come and inherit in Canada
Thanks a lot. Seems to me you folks over there are all disillusioned to some extent. What exactly is that big downside - aside cold weather which I hate
jackmrandy: Let me tell you one thing , even if you like get all the money in this world as a woman, get the best career and profession, investments, if you don't have a child or not looking to have one some day, your whole effort on earth is wasted. As you will not be remembered for anything once you are gone finally and there will be no one to take over your legacy.
Just look at what someone is writing. What a negative mindset. Negative to negative! All the great women that are remembered in history are they remembered for having children? And what exactly does being remembered benefit you - you are dead! Live the best life you can, marriage or no marriage. Don't let your happiness hinge on any man-made expectations!
AlphaHakimi: Don't be deceived. The pride of every woman created on earth is to be called someone's wife and probably a mother.
Does this woman look like someone unhappy and unfulfilled? Compare to some married women you know. Marriage is not for everyone! Marriage is ok, but don't forget, you can also have and enjoy your own children without marriage. What you do need is money!
arad82: I accept the job, add little more experience to your resume , think about the better one after two months .take your final decision .the only thing you will be losing know is your plane ticket.
Actually very good advice on the face of it. Only thing is, IF I go with the job I need more than two months - the salary quickly goes to 1m then 1.5. What I really need is a crystal ball on Cana. My life here is honestly not bad at all. Don’t want to suddenly go from eating on table to eating on floor!
Deoboss: Many people think going to Canada is the best option, check video below. Make your research very very well as Canada favours just some while the country does not Favour several others.
The weather is not friendly at all and cost of living is some thing else. Canada is not the best country to relocate to. I lived in Germany a bit back in the days. Just the language barrier if not Germany is a better country to relocate to plus Luxembourg.
I have 3 friends that regret travelling to Canada so much that 2 of them relocated to USA which they said is by far better while the 3rd is back in Nigeria after his visa expired and did not bother to be PR (Permanent Residency)
YourGFsnatcher: If you know what's good for you take that 500k job. It's wayyyyyy a better option for you. Trust me, the Canada of today is a nightmare. There's mass emigration from Canada because thier economy is crumbling. Stay n build yourself here
Not only that, the salary quickly goes to N1m... but my feet are itchy and I have these Cana dreams!
Resurgent2016: A visitor visa by design is not intended for work by the issuers. There is a fair chance you will find it harder to get a job because of this though you have an in-demand profession.
It is probably better you keep the Nigerian job while looking for opportunities with the visa.
Please understand I already have my ticket and these ideas. Otherwise it'd have been a much easier decision
Discreet90: I was have seen bank managers and even me personally was earning more than that amount before I relocated. The moment my visa came out too alot of distracting opportunities started coming up. 500k today is not up to 500dols. There are opportunities for you once you are into tech, IT or any engineering skill. Don't let your village people distract your bright Japa. Also don't listen to those who japa with their agricultural certificate or biz admin. We tech guys are doing well and in high demand. I will keep saying it that as long as you are earning below 3m a month in naija. You have no reason to say no to Japa. Naija ain't worth it right now. Imagine fueling your car with almost 50k a month from the 500k. How much is left. Rent still dey. U go won marry born pickin. Reason am well o
Actually the job quickly goes to 1m, then 1.5. Rent us included. But that's my concern about delay - village people! But my folks in the know advice delay
Omoawoke2: I know ideas and dreams could be tempting to make a giant step. But try to calculate carefully, 500k na small money for dollars, but it’s still a lot in Nigeria. Reality is different from dreams and ideas oo, getting a job and settling down with visitors visa is not as easy as it sounds. I wish you all the best to make the best decisions
The job actually quickly goes to N1m. But dreams and ideas, once they take root... plus I already have my ticket
DevOpsOlu: Your "friend" may not be able to host you. Lots on Nigerians find themselves with no place to stay on arrival after friends /relatives failed to perform. Have at least 3 month of saving that can be used to pay for hotel and basic necessities. Best wishes
The family is actually already not very encouraging about me comming at this time so I'm not relying too much on them
Hideaki: Before the Biafran genocide, my mom worked as teacher earning 300 naira as her salary in the teacher's quarters being given to my mom by the state colonial government then with water being pumped to our house and 24/7 light
After the Biafran genocide everything went to shit
I went back to the house I grew up in ; everything was out of shape, dilapidated and pieces falling out with new tenants not maintained anymore
I won't be surprised if that house collapses one day with the tenants in them
How sad. You must have grown up in the East because the rest of the country didn't start falling apart till.well after the war
Selfkontrol: For me stay in Nigeria for atleast 6 months and save money. If possible 1 year. You can’t work with a visitor visa. don’t ruin ur visa. Save enough money since you already got 10 years visa no issue. Ur plan should be permanent resident route with work experience. If you’re old for marriage get married and start the pr process with ur wife. 500k is change. Naira is useless right now that’s just $500. You might not make a lot of money in Canada due to tax and inflation but atleast after a few years you will have ur citizenship which is the most important. With your citizenship u can relocate to any country of ur choice hassle free or come back to Nigeria if u wish. Ur target should be a second passport for urself and kids.
And by the way pls how easy was it getting ur visitor visa cos I plan on getting one for my my child birth. How long did it take? How much was in your acnt and the necessary documents ur submitted. Thanks
Thanks for your advice. It wasn't easy at all getting the visa. That's part of the dilemma. It's a long story. You can check out threads right here on travel. So much info to glean. Actually the pay quickly goes to N1m, didn't want to mention that. I already have my ticket, my heart is, I want to leave NOW
johnson8213: No amount of money can keep me in this good for nothing country if I have the opportunity to japa. I will not even come back again
I actually have a decent life here and about to get better - that's the dilemma. Don't want to go from having driver and cook to being the driver or cook!
olalekan9320: What you have is a visitors visa, you can only visit, you shouldn't be asking the question because you won't be able to work in the first place
But I said that right at the beginning - I have a TRV. BUT I didn't see that as a problem till people in the know started putting sand!
studycenter: Yeah, I was careful not to mention this part. It always don't end up well between frnds in circumstances as this.
If you've got well established frnds/family out there, getting recommendations for employers can surfice in the case where there's no work permit (if you choose to rough it)
Nigeria is a lost cause!
I'd advise anyone to find their way out if they get the opportunity. 500k you see today can't give that perfect dream life considering what Canada has in stock.
Get a virtual Canada line. Arrange your resumé to match Canada format. Use your frnd's address. Apply to jobs and attend virtual interviews.
Thanks for your advice. Gsve me some food for tjought. Actually the family there are not keen on me comming at this time but my feet are really itchy. Also I didn't want to mention the job quickly goes to N1m
tensazangetsu20: Wow since I was born I am 27 now I have never experienced steady electricity till I left Nigeria. I always thought it was like that. I am surprised.
Dennisochampa: ... Lol... Bro I see it this way, no matter what, if it's bad there, those that are there will come back to hustle here... It's never easy especially going to start all over in a new place but bros... Life is a risk... Staying back here is a risk... Even me I have that fear presently because I've gotten a visa to join my wife in UK.. I earn close to 500k in both my business and my job monthly but I think of how much I can earn with my work rate and the grace of God.... It's not easy but we have to try... We are Nigerians. People wen dey go there go survive and make am, no be 2 heads them get... Believe in yourself and your ability and leave the rest to God.
@bolded is my exact thought. Though some do talk of comming back. Like you said, with God's grace all is possible. Then again Tinubu and Gbaja would be sitting in jail right now if they stayed in US, instead they became billionaires!
rinzaugustine: Yes it was because I remember in 1986 one day we were reading and then the lights went out, my mother said we should remain calm wherever we were that the light will come, after about thirty minutes they brought the light..It started getting worse in the nineties and by 1998 we have become used to sleeping without lights and a lot of people started importing more generators
Nigerians really enjoyed back then. Though, with inverter and solar, same thing
tensazangetsu20: Was there really 24 hours electricity in Nigeria in the 80s?
Nigeria just went from.good to bad to worse, and now... now we have Tinubu! Of ALL people in Nigeria we have Tinubu, despite everything we know about him... not as if we didn't know!
greggng: Let me tell you this little story . We were two friends ...We decided to buy land on same location ...I started building my own house while he built bq and fenced his own. One day this guy called me to infirm me that he wants to sell that land and move to Canada. I was angry with him but he remained adamant . Yes I completed my house but thus guy has bought 3 houses ever since he left . He has taken his wife and kids to Canada...infact today I can't even stand where he is. standing . This is personal experience..pls don't make my mistake
Whenever there is this type of story abroad people rush in to say the person must be into illegality in one form or another. They almost ate up.one guy who said within two years he had two hotels and several student hostels
