Travel › Re: What Common Things Surprised You In Other Countries that is lacking in Nigeria? by Powersurge: 10:48pm On Apr 25, 2023 |
aboyaji: I'll go first...
1. Cooking gas: Cooking gas is very cheap in ivory Coast. It costs an average of #330/kg of gas. So refilling a 12.5 kg cylinder should cost you #4125 at most.
2. Kerosene: kerosene costs relatively about #650/ litre in the fuel station, where the black market sells for #800/ litre.
Note : This country's oil production is very poor o. They're not even anywhere close to Naija's production.
3. Organisation: Ivory coast is very well organized that you can barely run into unorganized environment. Many areas are safely guarded by their local police officers stationed almost everywhere. You can as well make friends with the officers easily without any form of threat from them. They're very welcoming.
4. Very low violent place: People can move around as late as 10pm till dawn without the fear of harassment or violence. In fact, children play in the tarred road as late as 10pm. They have already come to terms about how safe they are in the country. People can stay up late wherever they went to without rushing back home due to nightfall. Night movements was my best !
5. Good Road network: I spent close to 7 months in ivory Coast and could barely see a road untarred. Almost every road I used was smoothly done and stretched to various cities and States. The only place my leg touched Sandy soil was in my compound because the landlord was still constructing more buildings in the site. So our compound was sandy at the moment. Tarred road stretched into all compounds in ivory Coast. It's not the responsibility of the government to do your compound, it's yours. I was marvelled by such development though I spent most of my time in the rural area.
6. Security: Police is your friend is the Moto in ivory Coast. Really nice people. I guess I've said it somewhere before now.
6a. Theft is ALMOST uncertainty. The prepaid meter of every individual house is stationed outside the main building without burglary or iron shield. Anybody can touch it. It wasn't even stationed very high from the ground level. It went only as far as 3-4 feets high. A child of 10 can touch it too.
Our apartment is in a 2 storey building comprising of almost 33 units of one bedroom apartments. The building was built like a shopping complex. All of the prepaid meters used in this apartments are stationed outside where everyone can see and feel it. But no one steals it, likewise every other houses there.
6b. Once there was a particular theft in my ivorian friend's shop that I know of. There were 5 boys who was involved in burgling his computer and phone shop one night. But before 5am, the boys were all caught with the complete stolen items retrieved. Funny enough, my friend didn't know. He was woken up by the police to come to his shop and see the guys. And he didn't have to SETTLE THE POLICE FOR DOING THEIR JOBS .
7. There is constant electricity in that country. CONSTANT. I only observed a few nightouts and those periods were understandable. They all know when the lights would go off in the week or month and have come to terms with it. Light doesn't go off intermittently as obtained in Nigeria. And throughout my stay there, I didn't pay for light bill or water. My caretaker didn't mention it to me too. I was surprised. Steady light
8. Economy: Their economy is very good. It's almost equaling to the Naira at the time I left. So, if you hear 500 CFA there, it's almost equivalent to 500 Naira. So don't do too much calculation.
8a. Minimum wage is very much respected and applied. A POS attendant over their is living a good standard life. A bar attendant earns about 20,000 CFA weekly... WEEKLY o. I mean a local bar attendant. How much more a corporate hotel or bar attendant or waiter.
8b. The money you earn can fetch you a standard living. Their money is easily made and spent too.
9. FOOD : Our area of specialty.
Food is over cheap compared to what's obtained in Naija. You can see someone who earns little but could afford chicken or any frozen food. Food is not part of their problems for now. Banana can go as low as 50 CFA or 50 Naira and it is not the small quantity we're talking about.
A bunch of Bananas that you can get from a roadside vendor in Naija for 800 could be gotten for 150 CFA. So you see it. Once I bought 2 Bunches of banana for 50 each, I couldn't finish them for 3 days.
9a. So sorry, vegetables can be scarcely found there my dear. I made most of my soup without vegetables. That part I didn't enjoy
That's for now. Anybody can add. I will like to migrate to. Ivory coast aa experience hire (data analyst), do u think it's possible? And what are barriers? How do I go about it (theie job sites, and other info) |
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: My Job Is At Risk Because Of Office Romance Involving My Boss by Powersurge: 7:01pm On Apr 25, 2023 |
SundayNightGist: Sharing this story with you is risky because it's a true story and it actually happened, but I'm not deterred as I'm on a mission to sanitize our society of all forms of immorality. Now lets get right into it without any further ado.
My office is located in Gwarinpa in Abuja and my boss is a very busy man who hardly stays in the office. We have another branch in Guzape (Asokoro extension) where my boss hired a lady as the manager in charge. This particular lady is fair and very endowed both ways (I mean front and back). She's attractive too, no doubt. She happens to be a single mother with a son. My boss on the other hand is a family man with four kids.
I had just joined the company when I started noticing that this lady usually drives the company's Mazda salon car to our branch (the headquarters) every week (Thursdays to be precise) to hold a "private meeting" with my boss. Word in the office has it that she was coming for weekly "reporting". Honestly I never once bothered to try and find out what was really going on as I'm the type that is very serious with my work.
Not until the guys in the office started bantering in groups and talking about what was actually going on. Again, I shrugged off their conversation because what's my business, and besides, I don't do office gossip. Well, not until one fateful day....
As I was hurrying up a task given to me by my boss in my usual seriousness with my work, I needed to rush to his office to get his final approval on something that he had asked me to do when I ran into the unbelievable!
Was I dreaming? Was my eyes paining me? For Pete's sake, what was this? In broad daylight that evening, as I knocked, my boss answered "come in" nonchallantly. I don't know what he was thinking. Lo and behold, there they were, he and our branch manager both standing on their feet and very close to each other with my boss unzipping her dress with his both hands! I was embarrassed and so were they. Usually, whenever this lady is around my boss would immediately close all his window curtains. This normally happens around or after closing (remember I told you I'm a serious office worker, so I stay back a lot because naturally I work late into the night everyday).
Since that incident, whatever I say in any meeting involving this particular lady is always accepted and approved by her whether it makes sense or not. In fact, she's trying to move close to me and become my friend by force now to the extent that she even chats with me privately now regularly.
While a man has the full right to do whatever he likes, my question is why do this in the workplace? Why would my boss engage in office romance right in the office building? And why is the lady in question now trying to get close to me by force now? Am I in any real danger? I don't want to lose my job. Please what do I do? Go to her house. Discuss with her like an adult. And assure her that a word of this Will no go out of your mouth. And delete this thread. Else, she will make u lose ur job. Ego shock u. |
Family › Re: How Much Do You Spend A Week As A Single Person? by Powersurge: 3:10pm On Apr 25, 2023 |
Cooolme: Please I want to know if I'm over spending or it's just the way things are in Nigeria as a whole. I'm a student and very cautious of my finances, even with that I spend like 35-40k weekly excluding car fueling. Omo things are bad oh, I remember my 100 level days (2018/2019) when 5k could carry you for a week even without foodstuffs. Over to you, how much do you spend a week? Between 15-30k weekly. Single. |
Family › Re: Please Married Nairalanders, What Would You Do In This Situation? by Powersurge: 3:09pm On Apr 25, 2023 |
Fineman2: Story of the day;
Hello Omajuwa. I am an only child who is 42years old. My mother refused to remarry after my father died when I was young. She sacrificed so much for me to be where I am today. I got married about 7years ago. My wife and I have been looking upto God for a child. After pleading with my wife for us to adopt at least a child to no avail, I decided to get my mum who stays with us to help me speak to her woman to woman. But this made them become sworn enemies. My wife since then talks to my mother anyhow and disrespects her every now and then. It has been like that for months.
Few days ago, while returning from work, I heard their loud shouts from outside but I remained outside waiting for the shouts to be over as I didn’t want to be put in the position of choosing a side. But I had to intervene when I heard a loud slap. My wife had slapped my mother. I was enraged but I kept my cool, took my mother from the scene and catered for her. I have since not said a word to my wife.
All I feel when I am at home is sadness and depression. I have no peace in my own home. I have sacrificed a whole lot just to make this marriage work. The woman I married has become someone else. I have defended this same woman from my extended family for years. I have been labeled a ritualist and all sorts of name due to our childlessness but I have never cheated and I have always defended my wife despite knowing that she is the one with fertility issues.
Even though my mother has been trying to put up a strong front since that day, I know that she has been crying herself to sleep. I love my wife so much but I love my mum too. What could my mother have possibly done to warrant her slapping my mother? I think my wife is selfish and is no longer who I married. Why would she rather constantly inflict pain and sadness on her own family? I just want peace of mind and I have made up my mind to divorce my wife. But hope this won’t be a mistake? Is there still a marriage to save here? How do I go about it? What do I do? Please help me. This must be a made up story or the BOY is a weak slowpoke. |
Politics › Re: 172 Nigerian Troops For Guinea Bissau by Powersurge: 9:26am On Apr 20, 2023 |
divinehand2003: Why are we send a whooping 172 military personnel to Guinea Bissau when we don't have enough to tackle the insecurity situation in Nigeria. Where is our brain located now? Nigeria has 250,0000 military personnel. Only 30,000 are deployed in the NC (and rotating). Personally, I don't think govt wants to end insurgency by force but by wearing the terrorists out over a very long period of time. |

Eazzii: Okay. I've this burden on my chest for over a year now and they say a problem shared is a problem half solved (or multiplied)
So, I've this friend who lives with a woman and her little son. He and the lady are of the same age group. The husband, who is in the US is fully aware of this situation. Note: they stay in the same room and even sleep on the same bed. Also this guy's family house is just a stone's throw from the lady's house but he hardly ever visits there and hasn't passed a night there in over 4 years. If you're new to the area, you'll be forgiven if you address them as man and wife.
My main purpose of creating this thread is not to pass judgement on anybody but to seek your opinions. As a married man, will you be comfortable with your unmarried friend staying with your wife while you're overseas. As an unmarried guy, will you be comfortable living with your friend's wife.
Lao, masculinists and feminists, kindly keep off.
PS: They are both active members of their church. Sir/Ma, you are aware that the husband is in the know. The only person that seems to be concerned now is you. Obviously you don't have the full information. And there is no need for you to have it. Because u are not a party in this issue. Drink some water. And relax. |

podium: Good morning all,
I will make this short and brief. I have work in a school for 10years now. I started working there with a salary of 8k up till 20k. I now have a wife with 2kids. The salary was not taking care of us again. And I was left in taking loan. But in any academic session ie 1st, 2nd, 3rd term, apart from my salary I do see up to 100k or more base on tips and other deals.
I resigned February and I got a new job of 45k. Now my former job is calling me to come back, that I will be given 30k.. maybe when more pupils come my salary will be increase..
Former job * I go by 7.30 and close by 3.30 and have time with my family * Trekable from my house, I don't pay t.p. * I enjoyed public holidays and mid term break * I don't go on Saturday, still have time with my family * Tips and pension available
New job * I go by 7:30 and close by lastest 7:30 or 8 no time for my family * I pay 400 to and fro * I work on Saturdays no time for my family * No tips anywhere.. just your salary and you will be subcharge for any wrong posting.
I have 1 week to decide... Please help coz I am confused. Go back to your former job. I wake currently wake up by 4am. Leave for work by 5am. Come back by 9pm. I will drop 20% of my salary for 7:30 to 3pm. Or a hybrid option. |
