@pres-elect,

You have started to argue again, not based on reality but emotion. Please tell us if Tony Hayward or Obama is responsible for the following.

1. Temporarily lifting the Jones Act to allow help from other nations immediately following the disaster.
2. Who was responsible for turning down help from other countries immediately following the disaster?
3. Who did not provide Louisiana the needed permit to protect their shores following the spill?
4. Who awarded this particular rig a top safety award?
5. Who is responsible to guard the US Coast from events such as this?
6. Who declared that he is in charge of the response?
7. Who makes the final decision on what approach is adopted to fight the spill?

The answer to ALL the above is Obama. So how could he have the time for all that partying and Tony Hayward can't even take one weekend off to spend with his family?

While BP will be paying for the cleanup (and rightly so if I may add), one can only wonder, what about the billions they have paid in taxes? Shouldn't some of that have been set aside to deal with this kind of inevitability that comes from pushing the oil companies into the sea when we have abundant sources of oil on land?
grammar
BP is responsible for this spill and they should pay for it as you accept. there is no law against tony hayward going on vacation, but all i said is that given the circumstances . . it is inappropriate. if i were in his shoes, i would rather go on vacation in england, away from the US. doing it here looks like insult upon injury.
but in your characteristic manner, the only way to justify what he did is to say obama went on holiday too. as long as Obama is attacked, blamed, berated . . its all good for you cheesy . . I understand. cheesy . . there are people i hate too grin . . and i feel the same way about them too grin . . infact i'm begining to suspect that someone is behind all this problems obama is having. note that there is only one top foreing policy official that mccrystal did not insult . . . hmmmn, i smell a rat grin
Foreign AffairsRe: General Mccrystal: Why Obama Must Act by preselect(op): 6:09pm On Jun 23, 2010
@all
thanks for your comment
@montelik
i did not just play the race card. i asked a question. is it bc he is black? note that it wasnt the only question i asked. i also asked if it was bc he is a democrat. and just a little correction, gen mcarthur was fired by harry truman(democrat) whom he overtly disrespected.
@tayo
showing his frustration by throwing ''this stunt'' to the ''community organizers'' in the WH makes him what? he has disrespected himself. if obama (in his delusion as pretend jesus the saviour of the world) decides to keep him, that makes obama grand(not to me) and him so little.
what issued did he raise? biden bite me? jones a clown from the 80s? even other generals(who dont have regard for obama anyway, stand with obama o this issue. this is not about the issues he raised(if any) but about military tradition and constitution of the US. he failed and failed woefully.
@kobojunkie
he did not raise any issues here. he just insulted the civilian authorities. he has no case really. by the way, i agree with the statement about dead end policies in afghanistan. that is classical obama playing to the republicans. . . . . . .Pull Out of that Country.
@metal-gong
you should have read the whole post. dont just read one line and rave and rant. i asked questions. what the general did was so unbelievable that all questions have to be on the table. but u selected one and showed your innermost character.
@all
if a general is fed up with a president, what he needs to do is to resign. that is what top generals with intergrity do. resign and then feel free to criticise.he failed the military tradition.

@dayokanu,
So tell me, what do you think of Obama who has been playing golf, having parties, playing basketball and watching soccer during what he called "an unprecedented ecological disaster of our time"?
obama was not responsible for the spill. he happens to be president when it happened. but for the CEO(?) of BP, the guys who caused the spill, who had earlier complained that he wants his life back, now going for some sort of ''exclusive relaxation'' is inappropriate, to say the least.

now i know you hate Obama for winning the election, but there is little he can do to change the spill other than to push BP and hold them responsible. why? bc the fed govt is supposed to be like the tea party wants it . . less govt interference with private enterprise . . . less govt spending . . . .when private enterprise messes up, the govt should only attempt to hold them responsible for it, not fix it with tax payer money. the deficit is too much. You can join mr barton to apologise to BP for govt interference if you like
Foreign AffairsGeneral Mccrystal: Why Obama Must Act by preselect(op): 1:11am On Jun 23, 2010
another reason why obama must act. i hope he wont go with his usual delusion as a ''uniter'' to attempt to find a ''middleground''. this guy must be fired otherwise the world will see Obama as a weak weak leader which most people(including me) see him as already.

this is what happens when a leader is soft. i remember this guy made some unprofessional comments in the past and was pardoned by the great uniter Obama . . . and now this . . .

this shows absolutely no regards for the president.
is it bc Obama is black or is it bc Obama is a democrat?
what is it about the military, that they always disregard democratic presidents (except FDR)?

If Obama doesnt fire this guy, then I will have no regard for him either. angry

that way we shall be convinced that we need to do something about our soccer.

take a lesson from france. it's either the run to the final(and possibly win the cup) or they get eliminated in the first round. since 1986. that way they realise there is a problem and have better preparation for next time and they eventually do well.

Usually, I default to the side of law enforcement here in the US because of the incredibly tough and dangerous situations they go through every day, BUT this was a gross over reaction by the cop. Pulling his arm back, loading up, and delivering a full blown swing and landing a full punch straight on the face of a teenage girl shocked wow

She will sue and she will win and even rake in more money by making the circuit on TV/radio talk shows.
once again i disagree with you jesoul. the girl showed herself to be a tout. she was breaking the law by jaywalking. then she broke the law again by resisting arrest. the police regulations allow officers to use force when arrest is resisted. since she is a lady the officer felt he could use physical force to control her. unfortunately he had to use such physical force. as someone asked, would you rather he tasered her? NAACP should teach the girl to obey laws before wasting their money on lawsuits that they most likely would loose.

Negro_Ntns:
The call by White House for an escrow account is a good one but the net needs to be extended beyond just BP. There has been many oil spills in past, there are many more in future and the likelihood that they will impact life, property and environment is just as predictable. The order from the White House should be a blanket over the oil industry, mandating that, as a practical matter, each of the big oil corporations immediately set up a "contingency escrow" going forward.

On a different but relevant point, BP is one of the pioneers of Carbon Emissions Trading in Europe and was forefront on the effort to introduce into the US markets. Using the Cap and Trade model put forward couple of months ago by White House, it is easy to see that BP is miles deep in carbon deficits already and the well is still gushing. So how would they recover, where do you think they get the offsets to obtain a market balance?

A new wave of colonialism (terrorism) is about to hit the globe. This time it will be run by corporations subsidising one market with the output forcibly sustained in another.
negro? i thot you resigned from nairaland? welcome back cheesy . . . . . i'm pleased to inform you that you were not missed . . . grin . . . . at all

So the leadership is not saying anything officially on the matter just yet?

I welcome the development, was just suprised to see BP cooperating so easily. I agree the spill should take front row and BP has to allocate as much resources as possible in the containment and clean-up.
and i hope your friend tayo d will agree that BP should pay for what they did? if this explosion did not happen, BP would have made money and nobody will hear of it, but when trouble happens they want the govt to bear the cost. and tayo d and his republican cohorts have forgotten all about small govt and personal responsibility. john boehner says govt is responsible for the spill and should pay( he later changed his view while denying he ever made the initial statement) bachmann attacks obama for ''harrassing'' BP , congressman barton openly apologised to BP for the $20b that BP agreed to pay, calling it a shakedown grin . . . mr bobby jindal wants louisiana govt to spend money to clear the spill (tax payer money to clean private enterprise mess shocked, what happened to small govt shocked) these republicans are shameless but you know what, they deserve to win the next round of elections bc even though the republicans are shameless, the democrats are stupid

I hope you are ready to work through the red tape when you need to give someone a life saving operation in South Dakota, but have to wait for Obama's approval in Washington.
yes mr tayo, obama will even have to approve before any illness happens to anyone grin then he will approve before one goes to a hospital, then he will approve before any one is treated and just incase some patient decides to die, obama has to approve otherwise that patient will die illegally and as an illegal corpse he or she will have no death certificate. perhaps a certificate of life death will be issued as compensation but no death certificate grin

so jindal will spend the money of louisiana taxpayer to clean up the state? why? louisiana has a lot of deficit and needs to cut the spending. it shouldnt matter what problem it is, the state govt needs to reduce spending so they dont indebt the future generation. dont you think so? jindaal has been good all this while, rejecting stimulus money(which was secretly accepted grin) bc the state needs to reduce spending . . . he was against healthcare bc it involved too much spending( even though thousands of people were dying due to lack of health insurance) yet he wants to spend money to remove oil sarah spill (which is good o, but hypocritical cheesy)

Foreign AffairsRe: Spill Baby Spill by preselect(op): 4:51am On May 27, 2010
no, the government should not be involved. its a recession,it will cost a lot of money, the govt cant afford it. no. this is BP's business and the BP should take care of it. it shouldnt matter that the people may suffer what matters is that the govt cant afford it. if 44,000 americans die every yr bc they dont have health insurance and the govt is not to intervene in private matters, why should the govt intervene in private company oil spill? it shouldnt matter if the whole gulf coast is wiped. as long as it is in the realm of private enterprise then the private enterprise should take care of it. after all this isnt a natural disaster like katrina where no private enterprise like BP or Humana may be blamed.

govt should only take care of govt affairs like wars, military, border security, justice, etc and not oil spill cleaning cheesy

small govt all the way cheesy

let us get this right, the govt should spend tax payers money to clear a mess made by BP? what happened to too much spending? what happened to deficit? now bobby jindal will spend tax payer money to clean up a BP mess. why? the govt should clean up it's own mess; reform the regulatory body responsible for regulating the oil industry. that is what govt should do.

o yes, is that not what the conservatives have always wanted. less govt interference with private business?
ahaaaa, the govt should be involved in this case bc it affects american citizens huh? private enterprise is affecting US citizens therefore the govt should be involved, isnt it? wait a minute, this is familiar:
when private companies(big oil) ''misbehaves'' and citizens are affected. the govt should intervene but
when private companies(insurance industry) ''misbehaves'' and citizens are affected(44,000 deaths yrly due to not having insurance) the govt should not intervene grin grin grin grin grin grin
