It's a tricky one.
Cos if all prayers were to be answered, judging by the comedy movie Bruce Almighty, we would probably self destruct.
But yes God does answer prayers maybe not just in the way you've been praying.

Christians say pray with faith in the name of Jesus.
Muslims say fast and pray in submission to Allah
Traditionalists say pray in incantation and rituals to any of several deities
Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, etc all have their various methods of prayer.

But you know what they all have in common, their prayers are answered otherwise clearly they would all be extinct without any more followership.

Why?
Prayer is not unique or exclusive to any religion. It operates on natural laws just like sowing and reaping. It is simply the The law of Attraction.
The power of the mind to attract what you constantly dwell upon. A positive mental attitude attracts positive events while a negative mental attitude does the opposite.

Unfortunately most prayers don't get answered because after saying your prayer, you cancel it out with worries and fears that it won't be answered. Hence faith is the sole ingredient for answered prayer.
Pray, believing defiantly that it will come to pass.

1. Sirach
2. Wisdom of Solomon
3. Judith
4. Maccabees
5. Esdras.

i know that the Good News Translation is mostly used by Roman Catholics and Anglicans. i found out that other denominations rarely uses such.

Here is the first problem you have with the Bible, it's filled with alot of personal opinions and some of which became law based on personal opinions.


Example: The Books of Exodus - Deutronomy are filled with more than 600 Laws. Only 10 of those 600 Laws were direct commandments from God to Man (written by God himself). The remaining were just laws of Moses. The same thing can be found in the New Testament where Paul (Former renowned Christian Mass Murderer named Saul) wrote lots of letters to small churches scattered all around Israel trying to help bring solutions to some issues. Some of the contents of those letters are being taken as Christian laws today.

So the truth is you are bound to be very confused trying to merge Old Testament Laws and new testament laws or trying to figure out between the Mosaic Laws, God's Laws, Jesus' commandments and those of Paul.

So to keep a sane head and mind as a Christian, only focus on those laws that came directly from God like the 10 commandments and those that came directly from Jesus like "Love your God and Love your neighbour". Everything outside these will only bring you more confusion.

It's all personal opinions made into law, purportedly divine inspired.

God never said or wrote a law, men like you and I did.
God's laws are all around us, the laws of sowing and reaping, karma, life and death, laws of attraction, magnetism, EM, gravity which holds the world together, etc.
Every other thing is man made designed to foster peaceful coexistence for our social proliferation.

What you choose to believe is totally up to you.
You can choose to lead the life of a Christian, Muslim, Jew, Traditionist, Scientologist, Buddhist, Atheist etc as long as it's suits you, practice it with peace.

God answers every one's prayers once the conditions of these his established laws are met.

On the OPs questions, your references from OT and NT are at loggerheads because one is Jewish laws, the other is Christian laws.
I on the other hand will rather go with the government laws on divorce.

Well, am sorry to say this, I personal speak in tongues, moreso, I was a skeptic like you, but lemme just say, I speak as the Holy Spirit giveth me utterance. If I try to speak it on my own accord, I won't enjoy it, moreso I would get tayad easily. I have prayed in tongues for hours and I can say on the average, 3-4 hours and I would say I love it and I don't feel I'm forcing myself to mutter words or something. It was so easy to pray this way, not to talk about the fragrance that comes with the presence of God that you just don't wanna let go of when I pray in tongues
