It’s eaten in some parts of Igboland an. all (Nsukka). It just depends how it’s made. Yoruba ewedu is definitively rank.

I believe it's the south south. Akwaibom/Crossriver alone have so many soups then now combine it with soups from Delta, Rivers and the rest. Mehn just leave it for south south biko.
I dare you to name any beyond Edikang-Ikong, Afang and Otong (or whatever it’s called).

I thought you’d be about that age. Again, unless you’re doing this strictly because you really need more money (which is understandable given the way Nigeria’s economy is now), give yourself a break, immerse yourself in hobbies/ganga over the weekend and just enjoy that sweet spot of the week between Friday evening and Sunday afternoon. You don’t need to run yourself ragged and sap all the enjoyment out of your life just because you’re young enough to. People who have no choice do that regardless of their age anyway (even people in their 80s) and all of them will tell you that all work and no play/rest isn’t Seun, Emeka or Chioma’s most-healthy choice.

No. This one in the picture is underskirt. Shimmy is the one with straps.
They’re both shimi (slips). The only difference is that the one that hangs from the waist are called waist/half-slips/shimi, whereas the one with straps is a full shimi/slip.

Personally seeing a woman wearing one doesn’t turn me on but through my subjective lens it’s not supposed to. It’s underwear that serves a practical function. Whoever wants to wear it for whatever reason is free to do so.
Romance › Re: Why Did Ladies Stopped Wearing This (pix). by Probz(m): 6:45pm On Oct 20, 2022
I’d hardly call that thing gender-specific. Anyone who wants to tie wrapper, wear a robe, kilt or tight dress can do with a half-slip, male or female.

As for why it’s not worn that-frequently anymore that’s not my wahala. Underwear is the wearer’s business.

The geographical spread of fox in Africa is limited to parts of North Africa and Ethiopia.

Why should Igbos have a name for an animal that is unknown in their territory? It's like asking the Igbo name for penguin or kangaroo.
Right.

Food › Re: Make My Weekend Busy by Probz(m): 7:05pm On Oct 19, 2022
If you have a Monday-to-Friday, leave your weekends free (or fill them up with activities that are genuinely-enjoyable to you if you have to be on-the-move). Weekends, unless you really need the extra money, are supposed to be for enjoyment and rest. You don’t want to be going from job to job 6/7 days a week unless you really have to. Over-hustling isn’t healthy.

I was going in casual when I made those initial posts 5 years ago but in reality I know all-about Ondo people and the fact that they have a certain Eastern affinity in a way that’s best-understood intuitively for-now. Similar story for ndu-Ekiti but Ekiti people by-and-large aren’t particularly light-skinned.

Nairaland General › Re: Why Do Mad People Laugh? by Probz(m): 4:09am On Oct 19, 2022
RedStone1:
Hi. I'm a new member; never did I think I'd devote my first post to such a gritty topic.

There are a number of reasons why "mad" people may laugh at anything they see/hear/think:

1.) They are care-free: they have no worries in laugh, hence are often in a good mood.

2.) They scorn upon our ways of doing things: we go to the effort of buying food, cooking, cleaning, providing an education for our children (not that I have any yet!) and, in many cases, looking our very best for social meetings - the mad person needn't worry about such things, as their lives portray some of the most easy-going, stress-free lives that will ever exist on our planet.

3.) Many famous quotes by famous people have said, "There is a time to play; a time to rest (I think it also says so in The Bible)." A lot of people are now mad because of the tremendous amount of stress/anxiety they've had to cope with in their, sadly wasted, lives. Laughing may be a sign of relaxation from the negative emotions they've encountered.

4.) Their five senses sense things that we, as "sane" people, don't: funny voices, funny smells, funny sights, funny sensations in their nervous system and funny tastes. On top of that, they may also have very random, laughable thoughts cropping up in their disturbed minds.

What we should never do is laugh at them or scorn upon them - they are inferior to us, and they ought to look up to us. These sort of people need help: they don't need to be laughed at, although there are many "mad" people who prefer to live on the streets, and I think people should respect that to a higher degree.
Lol.

Let’s just say it’s because they’re slightly manic.
Food › Re: Which Of These Soups Is Best With Akpu? by Probz(m): 9:33pm On Oct 17, 2022
Ewedu’s for amala. I exaggerate how-much I hate ewedu but when push really comes to shove gbegiri and some sort of red topping will do. I don’t mind that but ewedu’s just rank so full-option abula isn’t for me. More to the point of this thread ewedu’s not an akpu-soup anyway.

Onugbu, uha, atama and fisherman soup are the obvious choices. Efo-riro (which I’m sure is a collection of different stew-soups which should really be explored and not regarded too holistically, because it’s a complex assortment of soups) obviously pairs best with pounded yam, yam or rice. Unless there’s a sprinkling of ukazi I don’t see how it would combine too-well with loi-loi.

Until I get a serious response from you that isn’t poisoned with a dangerous amount of tribalism and anti-Igbo sentiments this conversation’s definitively stopped being mutual. Yeah?

Just know, so, that every ethnic group (not tribe - if anything’s primitive it’s the use of that term) has unique strengths and weaknesses and with a decent holistic compass that’s not too jaded by mistreatment or tribalistic memories we stan for them when they’re doing well and re. what they naturally excel at. But when you get people like you coming here to tell us that one ethnic group is full of osu off-shoot paranoiacs and tell blatant lies about their sociocultural-interpersonal relations and facets it’s obvious who’s being serious and who isn’t. People like you spoil it for the good Yorubas and make it sound like Igbos hate Yorubas as a whole. We don’t (we love the ones we love). We just hate the ignorant, tribalistic ones. But like I said we’re done. All this ‘erm I don’t like what you. saying so ima prove myself to be a bloody tribalist and make disgustingly-inaccurate remarks which we all know come from a hobbit’s inferiority complex (that one ain’t me)’ business is very badly-reflecting on gi.

I’ve just been through that BanyXchi’s posts and apparently he’s jealous of the fact that Igbo men (who he refers to as osu flat-heads; so unbiased and strikingly non-tribalistic) have been said numerous times to have a better idea of how to be a successful husband than Yoruba men (many of-whom are known for not keeping it in their pants and generally cheat more), along with other stuff that can only make you assume that he’s a son of a wilful Igbo genocider from 1967. I think that says it all.

Politics › Re: Northerners Aligning Together, While Southerners Tear Themselves Apart. by Probz(m): 11:05am On Oct 17, 2022
alanto:
I see a pattern, the northerners are dumping APC, formally to both PDP and NNPP but now mainly to PDP. While we in the south are tearing ourselves apart... I know for sure that the north will vote Tinubu.... I don't even understand how a region that cried Fulani herdsmen for 8 years are willing and ready to vote another Fulani man in power. Atiku is even worse than Buhari, this is a man that delete a post about a murdered lady because his fellow northern Muslims threaten not to vote him, this is the same man that stole the Southern mandate and some mumu Southerners are queueing behind him.... now he's telling northerners to vote him because he's a northerner and here in the South it's Wike's camp against Obaseki's camp over Atiku. The same Wike that fought really hard to make Obaseki Governor when Atiku was nowhere to be found.

What sense will it make for a northerner to vote Tinubu (Southerner) with a northern Christian vice, against Atiku a northern Muslim? Or what sense will it make for them to vote obi at all... An igbo man that they assume is supportive of IPOB and Kanu?

It's time we start thinking in the South... We need a strong front to snatch power... Tinubu is still more popular and relevant than any other candidate... He can match Atiku in the north and still hold sway in the South... Obi will take a bit chunk of PDP votes in the South but Atiku will make that up with his Northern votes, obi will take some APC votes in the South. This will make Atiku win the north and also give him an edge over the south.

We need to start thinking....
The northern unity is more to do with Hausa than any particular region. Them-dem ain’t unified in any tangible geographical sub-divisional way, na.

ok lovely answer hun but what are the some things you find irritating about the yoruba?
Gee, I dunno. Their funny superiority-inferiority complex against Igbos, their myopic and ignorant ways and the way they often get so caught-up in the fun of it that they sometimes claim foods that aren’t theirs (ogbono for one; if you like draw-soup, call it apon and leave ogbono-proper for Igbos).

That’s the annoying ones. Many of my closest friends/our family-friends are Yorubas in different shades but outside of that they do often have some toxic traits. And that just doesn’t wash with me because being a seasoned so-and-so who’s very keenly-aware or the effect the Biafran war had and the retributive ingenuity (which is unparalleled within Africa) that sprung from it I’m very anti-Igbo-ignorant Nigerians. I really can’t be doing with people like that but like I say it’s not all or even the great majority of Yorubas. Just the ones that like to be stupid and act like other than their opposing ethnic-group who they see as a threat (Igbos) the whole world revolves around Yorubaland and Yoruba people.

undecided You wrote nothing but bunch of nonsense here, you people have deep inferiority complex when it comes to Yoruba race that will always be superior to your kind ... What the Bleep does Igbo akara means? Akara, moimoi, Ayamase and many of the things you wrote here came from yoruba people, you people got it from them, there's nothing like Igbo akara and like you said yourself we Ondo people have a lot of soups you don't even know, same for the Yorubas across Benin Republic. Also egusi is not ibo soup, egusi is found across several countries in west Africa. To think that Yorubas can only cook 3 major foods show how myopic you are,you must really think Yorubas are just a 'tribe' present only in SW Nigeria huh? Just STFU and stop your misinformation.
You don’t like what I said, you don’t like it. A stranger’s projected inferiority-complex is not my problem.

Likewise there’s a lot about Igbo food you don’t know the first thing about. I’m not prepared to have that discussion with a/n myopic, insular little south-westerner but I have more seasoned Naija. experience from many angles than you could have in two lifetimes. I don’t talk crap just for the sake of being tribalistic.

And just know that the Yorubas of Benin and Togo-Republic are not my concern as far as this thread goes. We’re talking about Nigeria and-so I’m talking about Nigerian Yorubas. Don’t tell me you’re so desperate to clutch at straws that you want me to stretch my conceptual wings that-far.

Northerners have had enough of their own kind ruling and raping Nigeria for decades. It’s time for an Igbo (wo)man to have a go and if they don’t like it they can piss off.
