Both ASUU and You still haven't discovered that the real solution do not lie with the government but with the private sector.
ASUU should tell the Government to make it compulsory for all big companies to be connected to all Nigerian Universities so as help upgrade the labs/workshops.

Lol.
Folks think a problem is a piece of cake till they have to solve it.
I think you'll find that ETF (now TETFUND) already placed some burden on the industry.
Your solution has already been deployed tay-tay as ETF. It's not enough.

I gave the floor sitting a density of 1.5 per square mater is that not getting generous enough?

Oga if this church was anything above 44,000( the world largest church in Texas) we would have a Guinness world record certificate

I'm not gonna go into specifics of capacity or records.
All I'm pointing out is that for someone accusing others of being dumb, your analysis left a lot to be desired.

For the record there no record this church is 100,000 capacity, infact if you look at that building it can't take more than 40,000 people

Are you trying to say this is 3 times akwa ibom stadium ...plus calabar stadium as jara?

Don't tell me people sit on the floor and they don't sit on the floor of the stadium, let's say the the ground is 2.5 times the size of a football pitch... That's around 25,000 square meters at best, the maximum this can sit with chairs is not up to 30,000 people, the gallery can't sit 10,000 people that I can say for sure... OK let's that it 15,000 around size of calabar stadium into one and half

Come on, church goers are dumb we know!!!! Don't bring your brain washing to the public

Relax dude. I know nothing about this church or its capacity. All I know is that your analysis is flawed. Have you forgotten that the seating density in churches is much higher than in stadia where seating is essentially just in a vertical stack on the perimeter ?!

My simplest solution to the hardened ASUU members is to declare their absence as voluntary withdrawal of service after conducting a recruitment process for their replacement even from Ghana and securing a court order

Sometimes I blame ASUU when I read posts like this. One solution to this problem has always been to jerk up school fees. Someone has to fund the system, and if you folks don't want us to make government do it, then go ahead and pick up the slack.

Funny how you guys don't realize that government has already gotten away with murder at the secondary level. Today, public secondary schools are increasingly an option for only the poor. If you want qualitative secondary education for your kids, you know what to do. No strike, no tantrums, no name-calling or demonizing. If you're poor, you take your kids to podunk college, where their odds of ever seeing the 4 walls of a federal university become almost zero.

Someone wants to destroy public universities in a similar way. It's either government, or fools who don't realize what's at stake, or parents who don't want to pay for top education. ASUU won't let that happen (and you lot better hope ASUU doesn't just throw in the towel in disgust).

The irony is this: whatever happens, the lecturers are the ones who will suffer the least.

And, lest I forget, yeah, we're ready for no-work-no-pay. Bring it on.

I only asked you to explain how the strikes have affected our academic calendars positively

What's the point in rushing to complete an education if what you are getting is rubbish?

Kids in public secondary schools have no problem with their calendar, right? They finish at the same time as the kids from private school, and yet, the quality of the education they get is so low that they (generally!) stand no chance when competing against the private school kids, as I have stated in a previous post.

If I were you, I'd be concerned about the quality of education, rather than how fast I get a worthless degree dumped in my hands.

I've enjoyed the banter with you because you come across as a nice fellow, but if you still want me to "explain" even after the examples I have given (TETFUND now funding billions of dollars of projects; staff recruitment training and retention), I'll start wondering if you're not just trying to wind me up.

What do you think?
Before I answer that for you (if indeed you need me to do so), do you ro do you not accept that previous strike actions have GREATLY benefited the system?

Nothing like any homework my brother, the facts are there to be seen that even a blind man can testify to. Surely I may say I understand what you may be saying but I strongly believe their are other means of them showing their grievances with the government than this way, atleast dialogue is the best solution to every fight as history has showed. Finally you don't continue doing the Same thing and expect a different outcome.

Lol.

Visit any university. Ask if they have projects funded by TETFUND. You will find that almost every new project of note is funded by TETFUND. This is a *direct* outcome of ASUU industrial actions.

While there, ask the staff how many lecturers and even non-teaching staff have been sponsored abroad for graduate studies. Find out how many lecturers used to bother returning after graduate studies, and find out what the figure is now.

Don't stop there o. Ask them how successful they were in retaining their good students as lecturers in the days of poor salaries. Ask them what the picture is now with the marginal improvement in remuneration.

If you're indeed wiling to let go of preconceptions and face the truth, you will realize that ASUU's tactics have worked over time. So why did you say they should stop using those tactics again? Right.

Don't make ignorance your full time job, use your brain to learn something else.

OAU the father of strike has left ASUU. Go and find out the reason for yourself.

The present day ASUU is like Ohaneze. I portent) impotent, directionless, useless and without direction.

No, you should not spread ignorance like a cold. OAU has not left ASUU. The university's chapter has a problem where the leaders of one of the factions were expelled from the union. It thus makes it easy for the university administration to pretend that no lecturers are on strike. Lecturers in ASUU (OAU) are very much on strike, while those in the splinter group are not. Now, you know.

As to whether ASUU is impotent or not: I agree that the union has barked up the wrong tree on occasion. Be that as it may, without ASUU, public tertiary education would have collapsed by now. Government has abdicated its responsibilities to public primary and secondary schools. They would do the same at tertiary level but for ASUU's neck lock. I know this because it has already happened at primary and secondary levels.

The overwhelming majority of intakes into my university (a top federal university) are now from private secondary schools. Products of public schools are probably trooping to colleges of education and polytechnics. So, rich kids get into top universities and poor ones find lower-ranked alternatives, after a caricature of a secondary education. The only thing stopping a similar gulf in quality from opening up at the tertiary level is ASUU.

So, keep demonizing ASUU, but know this: if the day ever dawns on which government breaks the back of ASUU, lecturers are not the ones who will suffer. You can take that to the bank.

Maybe that's how your hapless parents brought you up. But that's not my concern. Don't transfer that aggression to people who are seeking help just because you are too dumb to realise you also need some.

"Timilehin", if you wanted to know if I'm in the same class as teachers who made your own life hell, you could have found out. Well, I am not. My interactions with other students on Nairaland are oh-so public records.

Note this, and note it well: those so quick to resort to abusive language online do so under the mistaken notion that you can remain anonymous for ever. You are not anonymous to me. A quick check reveals that in your case, your godless existence and circumstances are certainly reason enough for the unprovoked bile. You obviously need help, and I see no point in poking an individual in such a bad place psychologically. You can feel free to say whatever you like, seeing as you need to vent, but do so knowing that I basically know your entire life history. Stay on the right sides of decency and abusive language.

Thanks but i think the HOD may consider me if he is humane and have a fatherly heart.

Your mentality shows gross misunderstanding of the whys and the hows of examination regulations. This had nothing to do with fatherly heart. You either have a case (in which case, the dept. has to sort out the mess) or your don't (in which case, you should please eschew sentiments, lick your wounds, and look to the future).

The questions I asked earlier should rapidly establish how much of a case you have, but for reasons best known to you, you would rather chit-chat with other students who don't know their left from their right, than engage with people who can actually advise you.

Nairalanders pls help me,i am confuse and depressed.

We are currently writing 2nd semester exams in school as i type.
My problem is that I missed an important course due to my coming late when they are just 5mins to round up.

Actually the exam was initially slated at 3pm but was later changed to 1pm which i wasn't aware.
I have begged the lecturer for the course,if their is any way she could help and she said no that i should sit again for the course.

I am contemplating writing to the HOD or better still the Dean.

Pls is there still hope for me or i should leave it to God.
I am currently depressed.
Pls snub any typographical error in this write-up,i am depressed.
Education is what i live for.
I can't afford to fail any course again.

Pertinent questions which you can answer now:
1. How was the change of exam time communicated to students?
2. How much notice were students given (how close to the exam date was the time changed)?
3. Was the change of time in response to a request from members of the class?
4. Was the request above communicated to the lecturer formally?

Other pertinent questions
1. Was the HOD aware of the time change? Formally notified? Informally?

And All the goons Applauding the so called good deed by the Gala man should be more interested in why they are not been fed and why they are locked up, some are awaiting trials, for too long, some could be innocent and some could be Guilty,

All they see is Black or white, and if you disagree they began throwing insults, making derogatory remarks and lecturing me on compassion, some called me Evil, some said i am heartless, some said i have dark mind and some said i am a poor man, well.. they may all be right, i don't balme them, because i don't reason like them.

You see? in England were i was born Supermarkets Throw away tons of Good food and drinks every day, because they are near expiry date, And if Anyone wants this food they are refused them, because if Anyone is poisoned by the foods the supermarkets will be in trouble. i bet Nigerians will call the refusal of the supermarkets of people to take the foods inhumane or lack of compassion. because they go with sentiments and not logic or rules and regulations.

as long as God is attached to any wrong it becomes right to Nigerians.

It is not in my habit to cross swords with dimwitted people, but I see that you are suffering from a particularly virulent strain of ignorance. Logical indeed. Would you even know logical if it bit you? May I remind you of your initial comment?

Its is surprising that you could not comprehend what i wrote there. I never said it is wrong to help but that man put himself in a great danger. There are lots of ways to help them but giving gala to prisoners outstretched hand is definitely not a good option. A lot of people have died because of what that man did and the culprit will go scotfree even if he knows the man is genuinely offering help.
What do you even know about the police/prison personnel? Do you know that many are not psychologically balance? Do you even know how many people are shot daily? If that man was shot will you be saying kudos to him? My teacher once told me that it is foolishness that will make a man play with wat might kill him.

I agree with you absolutely. The man took a great risk. But that is EXACTLY why it is a great inspiration to others. An act of kindness becomes exponentially more powerful when it comes at great cost or risk. Now do you understand me ?

edit: by the way, you teacher misled you be telling only half of the tale. What he didn't tell you is that most of the good we have in the world today came from the "foolish" risks of others.
