i think its always been done its called "tenament rate" i believe. However, as with everything, enforcement will be sporadic at best. Corruption will thwart its effectiveness. I wouldnt worry about it. How will d valuation be done anyway?

The car is certainly no 1998 model. it is the 1992/1996 production
U are right. Its actually a 1996. I am almost sure of that. This body style ended in 1997. But the back light on the 1997 is slightly different. The reverse light extends a little further in.
AutosRe: Nissan Sunny by promise72(m): 10:44pm On Mar 04, 2009
If you can upload the pics of your car, i may be able to tell you. There are two possibilities here. If the nissan sentra doesnt work, the Infiniti (G20) might. The Infiniti G20 parts from the US, fits exactly on the Primera from Europe.

I made a mistake few years ago and bought Nissan Sentra parts home to use on Primera, i was wrong. I bought brake pads as a matter of fact.

The good thing is that Nissan parts dont vary drastically from continent to continent but you need to know what u are doing or which is which.

Upload your car pics for a visual reference, and if its possible take off the tire and snap the pics of the absorber too.

Good luck.

Nice sales pitch! cool

But, the world's oldes automobile manufacturer is Ford.
While Ford is by no means the best, Mercedes isn't either. The last true great Mercedes Benz were built up to 1995, in the shape of the 124 series (V-boot). Whilst more recent models are prettier, they are no way as tough or well-engineered as the older cars, including the 190 series.
Tru that on the V Boot reliability. But however, i believe the Benz started in 1880 or 1885 while Ford started in 1900's

The fact that you misconstrued mastro's stance which was as plain as the nose on your face and suggested that he recoiled when he heard the price Siena mentioned, is proof enough that we are not on the same wavelength as far as intelligence is concerned. If it was Ziontrain now though I can't stand his guts sometimes I would have entertained him, so sorry my dear it is not me you are going to use to practise bettering yourself at English, find somewhere else to pitch your tent.

AutosRe: Status Salvaged ! by promise72(m): 12:22am On Mar 02, 2009
If salvage is recorded from the Dept of Motor Vehicles how wouldn't it not show up on the VIN report? Especially for California that has the highest number of registered vehicle in the U.S?

Insurance company don't wanna lose a penny u know. Just get ur facts right. I live here!. Im a registered dealer!. What more do u want to know?

I am on the lookout for the one Siena posted, once I find it I would put it up.

In addition to what has been said, I would like to add that despite all the hullabaloo about "post VIN" "post VIN" "post VIN" coming from certain quarters who would like you to believe they are doing it for the good of the world.

Some states don't record salvage titles i.e. you are allowed to retitle a car without referencing the salvage status of the car
so the VIN check would not pick this up, hence the reason for the confusion that occured a few weeks ago in this section where my head was nearly chewed off whereby a Volkswagen JETTA did not have salvage in its VIN record, yet was involved in a collision.

Some unscrupulous people take advantage of these by moving accidented cars to another state which does not record salvage titles to enable the "salvaged car" adopt a clean title.

Cars registered in the following state would not have salvage title come up in the record, when you check their VIN;

Arizona,
Arkansas,
California,
Illinois,
Indiana,
Kentucky,
Maine,
Michigan,
Mississippi,
Missouri,
New Jersey,
New York,
North Dakota,
Ohio,
Rhode Island,
Texas,
Vermont.

So if you request for a VIN and it shows that it was involved in a collision or whatever, yet did not have salvage in its title, it is more likely that the car was titled/retitled in one of these aforementioned states.

There is nothing wrong in buying salvaged vehicles, just make sure you take a mechanic who knows what he is doing, and also refer to this thread by FOGMAN who posted helpful insights to identify whether a car is a lemon or not, the guide in the next post, will help you know what to look for smiley
There u go again talking 'bou what u dont know. As a California resident (17years running) and a Registered Used Car Dealer. Your information is very FALSE. Below is a link to California Dept of Motor Vehicle about registering Salvage cars.

http://dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/howto/htvr13.htm

I've bought cars in neighboring states of Washington, Arizona, Oregon, Nevada. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that any salvage title over there will transfer to California.

The VIN record was created to protect consumers but most especially the insurance companies. They don't want to overpay (in claims) for a car that's been salvaged in another state.

@Promise72,
And if you ask me i think the quote for £1,850 is quite good considering the good work you will get form Siena. And back to your question if i will risk my live on a converted car, well, if it done properly then it not a gamble or risk.
I think the quote is good also. Its an excellent price, its on par with some quotes i've seen from companies in Japan. But i bet you, people who bring in cars from UK to sell will probably not want to spend that much cos it will eat into the profit. Hence the shortcut. Even people who bring in cars for personal use may be tempted to go for the cheap N150,000 conversion in Ladipo or Oshodi.

If its done well by a pro like Siena, then its no problem. "No shaking" like the saying goes.

The moral of the story is simple: If you gonna do it, then get it done right from a Pro. Otherwise its your A## on the line  grin
AutosRe: RHD To LHD Conversion - The Facts. by promise72(m): 5:37pm On Mar 01, 2009
@ youngmill,

This is not an issue of derailing the thread. The Pro, Siena has given a quote of 1,850 pound. Knowing Nigerian factor really well, very few dealers will chose to go down the route of getting it done properly. Even owners/end users might sometimes balk at the cost (as Mastro indicated). So the question is: Are you prepared to put ur life on the line in hope that its properly done?

There's always an advantage anywhere you live. People in Europe have advantage to in electric appliances (you can buy things and take it home and just use it) We cant do much of that from here. We worry about step down etc. And sometimes it doesnt always work right. But we can ship cars and take it home and start driving the next day, our advantage.  wink

So if you can do it properly, does it worth the gamble.? And for those who say i stand to benefit if recommend US dealers, how about going to other European countries (Germany, France, Belgium) at least they are closer and get ur car there. Do it properly or else  undecided

Shortcuts can sometimes be a bia##  grin

What you call "empty promise" is called GOODWILL in the market. Lets assume that you are a merchant, You are probably likely to grant someone like Dangote a credit line than some regular person. Same as the US. The US is good for its promises and obligation. [color=#000099]US HAS NEVER FAILED NOR BACKED OUT OF FINANCIAL OBLIGATION! EVER! Not even during the World War. You need to get that.

You can continue to predict gloom all day long. Make my day. "When U.S sneezes, others catches cold".

Slowdown in the US resulted in the world slowdown, so somehow if you shoot a hole in my boat, funny thing is, we are in the same boat  grin

Nigeria govt and other govt that depend on oil are having a tough time in paying its people cos world consumption went down as a result of slowdown in the US.

I hope you see the correlation. U.S.A forever!!!

As a matter of fact yes. The US IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MKT to any Country. Period. The biggest money maker. There no country that doesnt have financial interest in the US. That cant be said the other way round
AutosRe: Toyota Yaris Oooooooo by promise72(m): 4:57pm On Feb 26, 2009
Busy_body:
Well my offer is that what goes up must come down, the dollar is only appreciating because people have this blind faith that everything is now hunkydory in America and that the worst is over because they have a new leader . . .

The fact of the matter is that the market has to regulate itself, properties are being foreclosed at a rate not seen since the era of The Great Depression, property prices have to come down, car prices have to come down, car manufacturers are struggling and going cap in hand to the Government to bail them out, Realtors and Estate agents are folding up, car dealers are shutting shops, people are cutting their coats according to their size . . .

In case you are wondering what bearing this imput has on the common man like you, and how this translates into putting food on your table, then lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed unless the chikala you have been eyeing in the romance section - whom you intend to make an honest woman out of - has put her foot down that you have to get that Yaris by March 2009 or no show wink
Im not sure where your economics is coming from but ITS FLAWED to say the least. When the financial crisis hit the US, a lot of investors (Banks included) pulled their money. Major banks in Nigeria lost a lot of foreign investment they use for transactions.

This caused the dry up in foreign currency to exchange hence it went up.
Oil went down too. Not enough money from the govt to float FOREX Mkt.
Less people sent money home cos of loss of jobs or partial loss of income.

There is low volume of cars sold, no doubt, that doesnt mean you will get a $20,000 for $10,000. the manufacturer too are palying the waiting game for banks to start lending cos they dont wanna lose too.

Keep ur dream alive, but it will take a while before the investors confidence comes back to  allow money to flow back to Naija and perhaps oil prices comes back up.

TravelRe: Leaving The Usa For Nigeria, Would You? by promise72(m): 9:24am On Feb 26, 2009
Ndipe:
This is hypothetical. You are in your mid thirties, happily married with two young kids and a comfortable salary in the USA when the unexpected happens. You and your wife are laid off from the job market. Days stretch into weeks, and then months with your savings dwindling and your morale slowly receding. Your spouse is pestering you to relocate back home with prospects of a better opportunity back home. You check your 401k, regularly and realize that your total asset, combined with your wife hovers close to a million dollars. A tidy sum that could go a long way in Nigeria, despite the inflation.

What do you do? Cash the money and resettle in Nigeria, or stay put in the USA and keep hoping for a new job.
You always wanna "ease" your way back into Naija. Let ur wife and kids go home first. Dont live wt relatives. Find a most city to live in. Have a strategy. A million will go a long way, not if you are just spending it tho. Keep ur eyes open.
