AutosRe: Brand New Toyota Yaris Or Hyundai Accent Needed by promise72(m): 3:56pm On Feb 25, 2009
megastu:
I need invoice for a brand new toyota yaris, Honda City or Hyundai Accent. It must be Automatic and with guarantee. My Company's budget is N2M. You can also send it to mibisnow@yahoo.co.uk.
If your definition of "Brand New" is "tear rubber", i got news for you. A yaris of Civic with full options with be in around $18,000-$20,000 depending on the specs. That is full payment out the door.

You will ship, and Clear. Hmmmmmmmmm N2M doesn't sound too much does it.

Even for "almost new" ones with low miles, N2m is still far off unless may be Salvage cars, and by the way you want guarantee. Thats a Toughy grin

Good luck
AutosFresh Toks Rides For 600k Or Less: A Reality Check! by promise72(op): 3:45pm On Feb 25, 2009
To my Fellow NL,

I love to go thru the Auto Section for leisure and read. I am amazed that people still expect to find Non-Nigeria Fresh Toks for 600k or less. Sometimes they will price a car for such.

I just like to give a breakdown for intending buyers of cars especially since the Naira Value is a little weak now.

Average Shipping cost of Standard Car (Honda Baby Boy For Example) $1450-$1500

Clearing in Lagos: N200k -N250k

That is a total of N475k for the Shipping and Clearing. Then you factor in the buying here and profit margin.

Even if you ship to Cotonou, you will only be saving on Clearing, shipping will be about the same. So lets assume N425K total (shipping and Clearing).

So the next time you (or anyone else) is looking for a Non-Nigerian used, Factory A/C, Clean, Low miles, Leather  huh vehicle and still wanna pay N600k ?

All i can say is Hmmmmmm  undecided    But as the saying goes "Never say Never".

I hope you find a cheap car but be careful also what you might end up with  wink

AutosRe: Want To Purchase A Bulldozer Need Help by promise72(m): 11:11pm On Feb 24, 2009
@ Larez,

Im not in Nigeria yet, but i can tell you that there no need to spend $185k on a D6 Dozer. There are competent mechanics in Naija to fix those you just have to find them.

Back to the Dozer, the older the better. Try btw 1985-1990 Dozers. They dont require elaborate diagonistic equipment to fix and ppl in Naija are familiar wt them.

Are you gonna be flying in someone from the US everytime yo break down? Not practical. Buy something "Low Tech" and roll. Good luck.

dont forget to include price too
AutosRe: Toyota Yaris Oooooooo by promise72(m): 6:50am On Feb 24, 2009
Oga 190,

Let me tell you a secret. It might be that the price you are willing to pay is the problem. A tear rubber Yaris here in the U.S is about $17-18,000 plus taxes. So all in all, you will probably end up paying $20,000 fully out the door. That about 3million in todays rate. Mind you before shipping!

Even if you find one under 5months use, the depreciation will not have set in yet enough to put it in 1.7mill you wanna pay. (Thats about $11,333) To include buy, ship, clear, profit  huh  Hmmmmm.

Unless you want a salvage one tho. Also remember, US Yaris is 1.5Litre engine as opposed to 1.3Litre in Naija. The above price should get you a Yaris S. Fully loaded. The regular one will only be about $1,500 cheaper.

.
Don't forget that you have to ship and clear customs

Below are pictures of Yaris. Blue One is Regular,  Red one is the S edition. Notice the "skirt".

You might wanna consider looking at a 2007, may be it might fit the budget.

Good luck in your search

Just bring in anything" mentality is why we see a lot of broken down trucks/equipment on the expressway in Naija everyday. Why would a $80,000 machine just give you only 6 months of work? Especially a dozer.

The reason why dozers in Nigeria cannot give you more than six months of trouble free operation is basically due to the Nigerian factor. You can hardly find unadulterated diesel to buy. Because kerosene is cheaper than diesel most petroleum marketers mix diesel and kerosene and sell as diesel. Prolonged use of such fuels causes damage to the injector and nozzles, when this happens power output from the engine drops and in a bid to compensate for the power loss, many operators drive the machine to its limits which takes a toll on the crankshaft.

Lets make some cost comparisons, One brand new D8h/k cylinder head costs N220,000 while the same costs $2100 in the US before taxes
Transmission pump is N60,000 here while it costs $1100 in the US. One brand new crankshaft here will cost you N500,000 but its almost $10,000 in the US. This is the reason why rebuilt dozers cost much more in the US.
My argument is this. If I can buy a machine for $30,000 and it gives me 1 month of operation, (most will give u 2) at N120,000 per day, I can comfortably budget N1m - N1.5m for a spare engine, and be good to go for another 4-5months.

As for the man who spoke about Iron clad insurance, what happens if the dozer you bough with an "Iron clad insurance" breaks down? are u going to ship the dozer back to them for repairs? Have you seen the way bulldozers work in sand quarries? or the way they are used for demarcation work?

I have made my point, He who has ears, let him hear. I currently own a dozer that cost me less than $30k and its steaming quite well. I plan to buy another one sometime in September in readiness for the 2010 season, and I will not pay more than $30k for it. This will be my final post on this matter.
I concour. How about getting the diesel tester? It might help. Whats the used parts climate for thos CAT parts? I need some pointers or someone i can contact  (if you know one). I dont mind dabbling into it.
I believe the D8 runs 3406 engines. undecided
Once again, since you are on ground, i yield 100%  grin
AutosRe: Flood/water Damage Cars by promise72(m): 6:32pm On Feb 23, 2009
At all times, i want you to match your expectation to reality. Dont expect a late model car like Avalon or so for that kind of money (even if its flood damaged).

Then the real question is, What kind of car do you have in mind? Either lower your expectation or save more.

It will cost you about $1300-$1500 to ship. Then about the same to Clear. Is $3000 included in shipping and Clearing or just purchase? You need to clarify these things.

I dont care how much you pay for a flooded car, bottom line you will not be getting your worth. You will be frustrated at the end especially if you have a "saltwater floded car".

"Freshwater" flooded car is still OK but i would rather not even touch either of them.

Good luck in your search.
AutosRe: Want To Purchase A Bulldozer Need Help by promise72(m): 6:10pm On Feb 23, 2009
Anbyzown made a good point. However nobody is wrong yet. THERES A REASON A SIMILAR TYPE OF EQUIPMENT COSTS ABOUT $30,000 MORE!

"You always get what you pay for!". If a machine has been rebuild from the top town few hundred hours ago especially by a CAT Dealer, do not expect to pay chump change.

"Just bring in anything" mentality is why we see a lot of broken down trucks/equipment on the expressway in Naija everyday. Why would a $80,000 machine just give you only 6 months of work? Especially a dozer.  undecided

The average wish of a Nigerian Businessman is to recoup today's investment "yesterday" hence so many shortcuts we see. Building collapse, bridge falling, road washout etc.

Lets say you buy a $80k machine and it lands for $100K (with clearing and customs etc)
Average rental per day is about N100,000. So machine cost N15million. That means you will have to rent 150 times to recoup your investment. At least the face value.

By my little calculations here, thats not bad at all. Thats roughly 1300hrs. Then the rest is turning profits or at least beginning to. Whats bad in that? May be im wrong  undecided

Whenever you are buying something like this, the best thing to do even before you negotiate is to get a CAT machanic or appraiser to check the machine out and give you a report on it. It might cost between $100-$300 but it will be a lot cheaper than making a $30k mistake and ending up with nothing more than a paperweight.

Thanks got your mail. 12k minus the posters budget of 30-40k will leave around 18-28k to purchase. Then you have to move around in the US from the point of purchase. It doesnt leave much left.

EZE-B I believe you can get a good CAT D8h series for your budget. I currently have one in Nigeria and it cost approximately USD42,000
Look around and you will find something in that region. If you cant find one, let me know and I will connect you with the person who helped me buy mine.
However, if its a D8k series you want, you might need to up your budget to about USD 50,000 landed cost.
I sent you email trying to inquire about shipping cost on your dozer from the US. Where in the US it shipped from?

Sorry to dampen your mood. One benefit of a forum is diverse opinion. I live here in the US and will like to think that im a little "active" or "observant" in heavy equipment stuff. Im just trying to lay it down on you the real story. Shipping a D8 alone is costly. Its one of the biggest everyday dozers.

So if anyone promises you that it can be done, pls be careful. if its too good to be tru, its probably is. Just my 2 cents.

Making something and making it to acceptable standard is a different thing. For example, if you see the concrete blocks here you will know that standard is different.

When you make the TV to stand on a table or use eleganza fridge. What happens when you get in accident and the thing fly around or worst your head hit the thing and became big injury?

Theres a reason why bridges constructed by these "contractors" collapse all the time while julius berger own no dey collapse. What im saying here is that theres a science behind just stretching it.

Do you want to make it locally or fit for export? Theres various types of welding too. Welding is not just welding. Yuo have to know what type to use in what area. They are not all the same.

The reason Africa dont export much is that we fail to uphold exportaable statndard when we do things. We like too much short cut. That is not good for business.

If the year is posted on the car, are you saying buyers have to be spoon-fed to know it is there undecided I don't leave in Nigeria, so care to tell me what age one has to be to be allowed to buy a car undecided
On this side of the world, there a little thing called "truth in advertising". Diffent things matter to different people in a car. It may be color, shape, year etc. Cars that looks the same might actually have different features on them because they are made one year apart.
Some people might be driving a 2006 model car and they want to drive a 2007 or 2008 even though the 2007 they are planning to buy might not be better than the 2006 they have. They just wanna have the bragging right of saying "i drive a 2007 model"

So if you come all the way from lets say Port Harcourt or Kaduna expecting that you are coming down for a particular year and you get something else. Would you still feel the same?. Think about it.
