zanga420:
meaning all things being equal, a corolla and c class left Maiduguri by 6am at 100km/h, both used same speed level throughout, will reach port Harcourt by same time, let's say 8pm? If that's so what do we say to the so called horsepower n stuffs?

Yes, they will get there same time if the 2 drivers have the same experience, skill and ability

For the horse power and others u talk about is that the other one with a higher horsepower can endure more engine load than the other. It can maintain this kind of speed for a long time and the engine will still be sound but u dont subject the other one with that kind of stress if u want the engine to last long. The engine can carry ur AC for a very long journey than another with lower horsepower

Some Cars Are Faster Than Others Even At The Same KM/H:
We all had our fair share of believing this when we were kids.. If you still believe your car at 80km/h overtook another car doing 120km/h on the highway, please wake up! It is highly impossicant.. if there is any word like that. Except in the event of a faulty speed gauge.

I disagree OP for example A Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, the world's fastest road legal production car with a top speed of 431 km/h (268 mph) if its on 80km/h vs a Toyota Camry on 120km/h. that Buggati can't overtake the Camry? I stand to be corrected.
My brother, the Camry will keep leading the Bugatti in the example u gave.
The only condition that will defile this is if the engine of the Camry is faulty of the speed meter is wrongly calibrated.

120km/h means that in every 1hr, the Camry covers 120 kilometer
80km/h means that in every 1hr, the Bugatti covers 80 kilometer

So the Bugatti will always be 40km behind the Camry
The only difference bw the 2 cars in terms of speed is the total speed the 2 cars can handle. While the Camry may have 240km/h as its highest speed limit, the Bugatti can go 2 times above that speed limit.

If the two cars have standard and good engine, drivers of same ability and they start off the same time they will always be side by side till the Camry reached its speed limit of 240km/h then the Bugatti can take over from there by going with 250km/h or more which will leave the Camry following far behind it.

There are several ideas or stories we believe in that are not true. Today, we’ll be looking at those false believes that relates to cars and driving.

Let’s go.

1) All SUVs are Jeeps:
Actually, the reverse is the case. Not all SUVs are Jeeps but all Jeeps are SUVs. Jeep is an American automobile brand just like Innoson, BMW and Toyota.. They specialize in making SUVs. This blunder is equivalent to calling all detergents.. “OMO” or calling all Noodles.. “Indomie”.[b]

So what do we call vehicles in Jeep form?

Nairaland General › Lai Mohammed Urges TB Joshua Not To Relocate by Psoul(op): 8:04am On May 04, 2017
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has reacted to the decision of the founder of Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Pastor T.B. Joshua to relocate from Nigeria to Israel over what the pastor described as hostile operating environment. The minister described the decision as very unfortunate.

He made the comment in an interview with the travel press during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Nigeria Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) held in Ikeja, Lagos. The minister pleaded with Joshua to reconsider the decision as it would not be in the interest of Nigeria. He called for dialogue between the pastor and authorities over whatever challenges that he was facing. Lai declared: “That will be very unfortunate in the sense that if he does move out, it will affect our tourism in Nigeria. Pastor Joshua is an important person, he must bear with us. This is his country. If he moves out and go to South Africa (for example), the revenue will go to South Africa. It is better that Pastor Joshua sits down with the relevant authority and resolve whatever problem he has. If I have access to him this is exactly what I am going to tell him.”
Speaking at his church service on Sunday April 30, 2017 Prophet Joshua disclosed his intention to leave Nigeria and relocate his ministry to the nation of Israel, where he recently held meetings with three prominent Israeli mayors of Jerusalem, Tiberias and the Jordan Valley. Pastor Joshua said Israel offered him both land and facilities in an area around the biblical site of the Sea of Galilee, to organise meetings for international pilgrims. “This is where my Father in Heaven came from – it’s non-negotiable,” Joshua explained.

“It’s the best place for you to meet Prophet T.B. Joshua. After your healing, blessing and deliverance, you can move around all the spiritual monuments which will establish your faith,” he clarified. Joshua said his decision to leave was not connected to the “persecution” he endured during his ministry in Nigeria. He said the move would help people to “appreciate” what his ministry had been contributing to both the local economy and Nigeria’s international image. “This is the most persecuted ministry in the world. Who are the people persecuting the ministry? My people, Africa. That is why I chose to live a lonely life. I don’t go out. It has not been easy – because I don’t know who is a friend or who is an enemy. Anytime you pray, remember Africa in prayer. Many heroes and great people have been chased out of Africa. There are many geniuses in the Western world who are originally from Africa.” The cleric pointed to the example of heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua who was allegedly turned down by Nigerian sporting authorities when he wanted to represent the country. “What happened to me from the beginning of my ministry is enough to chase me out of this country – but I am still in your midst, upon the persecution and hatred, I decided to follow the path of love. You show hatred; I show love. When I go for a revival, you will see the stadium full but I am not carried away by that. I leave where I’m celebrated to live where I’m persecuted. Where you are not celebrated is the best place to stay, to get strength,’ he added.

Crime › Anambra: Bandits Kill Police Inspector At Checkpoint, Snatch Rifle by Psoul(op): 10:13am On Apr 23, 2017
Two armed men operating on a motorcycle yesterday shot dead a police Inspector in Ogidi, near Onitsha, Anambra State.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ogidi Police Station, Mr Hassan Musa, confirmed the incident.

According to him, the hoodlums snatched the AK47 rifle the deceased was carrying. He said that the incident occurred about 2.45 p.m. at a police road block near Ugwunwasike Roundabout in Ogidi, where a police team was conducting “stop and search”.
An eyewitness said the armed men took the policeman unawares as they rode straight and shot him at a close range while he was flagging down a vehicle for a search.

“Other policemen who were with him took cover on hearing the gun shots while the armed men escaped,” the source said.
The incident, which happened within minutes, caused people in the vicinity, including motorists and commuters, to abandon their vehicle and scamper for safety.

The DPO said the police had commenced investigation into the incident, adding that the remains of the Inspector had been deposited at Iyi-Enu Hospital’s mortuary.

Education › Re: 10 Common Words Nigerians Use Everyday That Don't Exist by Psoul(m): 11:32am On Apr 19, 2017
ngoremeka:
Many people speak English as their first language. It is one of the most commonly spoken languages in the world.
Nigerians are very good at a number of things and one of them is inventing their own version of English which has become popular overtime.
Some of the words and phrases we use often cannot be found in the dictionary. Some are words you picked up from others and they have become quite a norm.
It is not only the uneducated folks that are guilty of using these wrong words as the very educated Nigerians also use the English language inappropriately.
Below are words Nigerians use that don’t exist in the English dictionary.
1. Go-slow: When Nigerians say go-slow, they mean congested traffic, which is wrong. The meaning of go-slow in the English dictionary is, a form of industrial action in which work or progress is deliberately delayed or slowed down.
2. Disvirgin: This word is used on a daily basis by many Nigerians when they intend to say a woman has lost her virginity. There is no word like disvirgin. The correct word to use is deflower. Disvirgin simply does not exist.
3. Trafficate: Nigerians use the word to describe a situation where a driver indicates to other drivers that he/she wants to take a turn. It is used so often, that it has started to sound like proper English.
4. Flashing: Every Nigerian knows “flashing” to mean when someone calls your mobile phone and cuts off before you answer. The word ‘flash’ is so common among Nigerians and its used at least once daily by many. Flash has different meanings but none has anything to do with a phone call. The word doesn’t exist in that sense in English.
5. Installmentally: Don’t be tempted to use the word ‘installmentally’. Though it sounds correct, it isn’t. There is no such word in the English dictionary as it exists only in the Nigerian edition of English language. The correct thing to say is ‘in installments’.
6. Opportuned: What exists in English dictionaries is ‘opportune,’ without ‘d’ at the end. Opportune means ‘timely’ or ‘well-time, especially convenient or appropriate for a particular action or event. Opportuned is only common in Nigerian English.
7. Cunny: This is a word which Nigerians use to describe someone that is being deceitful or crafty. The right word is cunning not cunny.
8. Next tomorrow: Most Nigerians generally use “next tomorrow” but there is not such word as next tomorrow. Instead you should say, “a day after tomorrow."
9. Packer: Nigerians probably got the word from pack. The right word is dustpan. Since dustpan packs dirt, Nigerians like to call it packer.
10. Pepperish: It is common to hear Nigerians describe a meal that has too much pepper in it as pepperish. The proper word should be ‘peppery’. No native English speaker uses the word pepperish” to describe the burning sensation we feel from eating pepper.
Which of these words are you guilty of?
Not too late to learn something new,I learnt too.. you can add other mistakes below
Please leave it like dat for us. The Whitemen came here and destroy our language, make us to lose touch wt our native languages. They forced us into speaking their language to make it easy for them to kw all our secrets.

Now, we are doing the same to theirs and they start complaining. Even our brothers that their language is destroyed is helping the whitemen in their wailing.

See bros, leave that matter like that ooo cos this matter is so pepperish to my heart and its making me like use dis packer carry dirty pour for ur face. If you are opportuned to see what these whitmen did to us you will just want to disvirgin all their daughters.
In short let me come and be going sef.

Asked to clarify the CBN’s role in the disbursement of the funds, spokesman of the bank, Isaac Okorafor, told online portal, Premium Times, that the apex bank deals directly with banks and not government agencies or individuals.

He said: “It is true the Central Bank of Nigeria issues mint-fresh notes, but it is only to banks. After that (issuance to banks), CBN does not know which of their customers they (the banks) give those notes to and for what purpose.

“I cannot say if the notes the NIA is claiming came from the CBN. So, I will not be able to answer questions on it for now, except I receive a specific request.”

I almost wept reading that paragraph in bold letters. CBN bn the Apex Bank and the regulatory body in banking sector, cant tell the bank it issues mints to. When issuing the mint, they dont know the batch/serial numbers of the money it is issuing out.

At least if CBN can tell which bank they gave that batch of currency, it can be narrowed down to the particular bank that issued the cash and probably to which of the bank's customers.

In a serious country u can pick a common wrist watch on a street, trace it to the manufacturer, from their to the dealer it was shipped to then to the retailer and finally to the final consumer.

Nigeria....where are we heading. All these ppl are together in this crime. From CBN to the least, they kw themselves and protecting themselves. CBN pls tell us the truth.
